Curative effect of the neuroendoscope fenestration of the third ventricle floor comparing with shunt for occlusive hydrocephalus.

Abstract:Purpose To discuss if the technique of treating occlusive hydrocephalus in the neuroendoscope fenestration of the third ventricle floor is more advantageous than the ventriculoperitoneal shunt.Method Comparing the curative effect, neopathy and recovery through statistics of two series. The part one concluded 45 cases of the neuroendoscope fenestration of the third ventricle floor(Interpeduncular cistern)between Oct, 2003 and May, 2007. The other concluded 68 cases of the ventriculoperitoneal shunt between Jan, 1999 and Oct, 2003.Result The curative effect of two techniques was almost the same, but the rate of complications and recurrences and the operation time were obviously variant.Conclusion The neuroendoscope fenestration of the third ventricle floor should be adopted as the principal technique to treat occlusive hydrocephalus since the operation contributes to the distinctly low rate of conplication and recurrence, as well as short operation time and low hospitalization fee.
