Abstract:It is well known that electric load is closely related to weather especially in summer and winter. Taking the load forecasting in a provincial power grid as example, the weather data used in traditional load forecasting are globally and whole date, such as maximum and minimum temperature in the province. The weather forecasting has been developed to be able to predict hourly in area of a province. This paper uses the hourly area weather data for load foresting. The issues discussed include: dividing areas, weather data synthesis, load forecasting strategies and so on. Finally, the practical application results in Henan Power Grid are given to validate the methods.

Abstract:Electricity consumption data are collected more frequently by high-quality meters in smart grids. Therefore, the load data volume and length increase dramatically. On the other hand, for advanced market-based applications, e.g. demand response, load service entities hope to identify or classify users better. In this study, a trend-based load characterising approach is proposed. Firstly, the concept of the candlestick chart is utilised as an innovative tool for load description. In addition, electricity trend indexes, e.g. stochastic oscillator and moving average convergence/divergence, are introduced as parameters for load characterising. Secondly, the stacked auto-encoders are utilised to forecast the future load based on the input historical trend indexes. Case studies in Guangdong province demonstrate that the proposed trend-based method is more applicable than existing approaches both in physical significance and accuracy.

Abstract:With the development of advanced metering infrastructure, massive smart meter readings are generated and stored in smart grids, which makes it possible for detecting of tremendous social value embedded in load data. The majority of the existing load data mining works are performed on the daily time scale without adequate consideration of load information between the days. To better describe the power consumption characteristics of users, a data mining approach based on the weekly load curves is proposed in this paper. First, the piecewise aggregate approximation technique is utilized to reduce the dimensions of the raw weekly load data. Then, a Davies-Bouldin index-based adaptive k-means algorithm is proposed to cluster the studied users into several groups. Finally, a hidden Markov model describing the probabilistic transitions of different load levels is established for each cluster to extract the representative dynamic weekly load features. A feasible tool based on dynamic characteristics of load patterns is invented to evaluate the short-term load forecasting methods, which realizes the pre-check for the forecasting results without future real measurements in the forecasting horizon. Case studies on a real dataset demonstrate that the proposed method is capable of extracting weekly load characteristics of users.

Abstract:Forecasting of electric power load is the basis of achieving the power system automatic operation, real-time and accurate forecasting of load determines the run-time of most power equipment in the system, and is the foundation of accomplishing the safety and economy of power system running, it influences the life period and reliability directly, and is of great importance in theory and practical use. Real-time adaptive forecasting algorithm for power load in this paper is time series analysis method, which is based on ARIMA (p, d, o) model structure and whose parameter estimation adopts the recursive forgetting factor least square method (RFFLS). The Astrom forecasting algorithm, which is based on linear minimum square error of prediction, is used for forecasting. Modeling procedure of the algorithm is relatively simple compared with traditional time series method, and the algorithm avoids the fussy process of model structure recognition and verification, less data is needed and accuracy of parameters estimation is fine. Experimental verification of the algorithm is made using power load data of certain place in Hebei district. The result shows that the forecasting algorithm can estimate the model parameters online, and meet the requirement of dynamically predicting power load, solving the problem of great effect of random disturbance and uncertainty on one step real-time forecasting of power load. Good forecasting performance is acquired while the algorithm is applied in the working days, weekends and different seasons. The results show that the algorithm has fine adaptability

Abstract:Abnormal electricity consumption behavior not only affects the safety of power supply but also damages the infrastructure of the power system, posing a threat to the secure and stable operation of the grid. Predicting future electricity consumption plays a crucial role in resource management in the energy sector. Analyzing historical electricity consumption data is essential for improving the energy service capabilities of end-users. To forecast user energy consumption, this paper proposes a method that combines adaptive noise-assisted complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition (CEEMDAN) with long short-term memory (LSTM) networks. Firstly, considering the challenge of directly applying prediction models to non-stationary and nonlinear user electricity consumption data, the adaptive noise-assisted complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition algorithm is used to decompose the signal into trend components, periodic components, and random components. Then, based on the CEEMDAN decomposition, an LSTM prediction sub-model is constructed to forecast the overall electricity consumption by using an overlaying approach. Finally, through multiple comparative experiments, the effectiveness of the CEEMDAN-LSTM method is demonstrated, showing its ability to explore hidden temporal relationships and achieve smaller prediction errors.

Abstract:Probabilistic load forecasting that provides uncertainty information involved in load forecasting is crucial for various decision-making tasks in power systems. This paper proposes a novel adaptive ensemble data driven (AEDD) approach for nonparametric probabilistic forecasting of electricity load by mining the uncertainty distribution from the historical observations based on conditional historical dataset construction and adaptive weighted ensemble. The pertinent patterns similar to the forecasting condition are searched from the numerous historical observations. The similarity degree measurement method is established based on shared nearest neighbors. Moreover, the uncertainty degree of the predictive load is quantified via information entropy, and then the number of similar patterns is determined depending to its uncertainty degree. After obtaining the conditional historical dataset, an adaptive weighted ensemble method is proposed for estimating the uncertainty distribution more correctly, where the weight for each similar pattern is set based on its similarity degree with the predictive load. Comprehensive numerical studies based on realistic load data validate the superiority of the proposed AEDD method in both accuracy and computational efficiency.

Abstract:Abstract Short-term load forecasting of power system is an important task of power distribution system. Accurate short-term load forecasting provides the best configuration for grid power generation and distribution, maximizing energy saving and ensuring stable operation. This paper aims to study the design of short-term load forecasting system of power system based on big data. On the basis of analyzing power system load forecasting algorithms, classification of load forecasting, characteristics of load forecasting and system design principles, each module of the system is designed in detail, and finally tested the performance of the system. The test results show that the system has no adverse reactions in the use of a large number of users and repeated operation for a long time. In the case of large throughput, the system has a satisfactory response time and relatively reliable system stability.

Abstract:In this paper, the load prediction and early warning system of distribution network equipment is constructed by using remote monitoring technology, power network fault pattern recognition, high-speed system diagnosis technology and power network monitoring and evaluation system. Then, a heavy overload warning framework is established to screen out the components of the distribution network with short term heavy overload risk. The fuzzy monitoring method is used to control the overflow of abnormal data in power dispatching system. Secondly, this paper carries out load distribution prediction and determines the user load superposition result based on the user cluster analysis results. By analyzing the main functions and software and hardware of the intelligent scheduling visualization system, the visualization display based on SVG technology is realized. This paper analyzes the implementation scheme of the early warning system, the prediction of the power network state and the real-time monitoring method of the power network fault. It illustrates the experimental results of system operation.

Abstract:Taking account of the demand of electricity market in China. a practical design of short-term load forecasting system is presented in this paper. The design is composed of four components. The first component collects and analyzes pre-forecasting data for enhancing its validity and availability. To offer a foundation for adjusting the day load plan, a conception of extended short-term load forecasting is defined, which provides a function to re-forecast the loads from now to the end of time period in one day. As a whole, short-term, extended short-term and very short-term load forecasting sections are combined into a main component. Original load data is detected and modified by data checking section, which, with the plan checking section, forms the third component to control the forecasting system. Based upon forecasted results, the day load plan is worked out and reported by the final component. The design principles and implementation methods are described completely. The practicability of this design is demonstrated by results of applied cases.

Abstract:The smart grid is a major technological innovation that has provided a focused development trend for 21st century power systems.The adequate monitoring of smart grid information systems is crucial as personnel are required to control real-time operations, monitor status, and maintain all equipment so that effective and timely operational decisions can be made. Hence, accurate and actionable prediction results are vital to alarm responses. However, seasonal, climatological, operational, and maintenance behaviors often cause non-stationary and periodic interference with monitoring methods that rely on multidimensional time-series data. Therefore, accurate and efficient prediction of the operational state of information systems remains a vital challenge. Presently, short-term prediction methods based on small-scale datasets have become available. However, as power operations and maintenance data grow larger and more complex over time, the application of these methods to large-scale datasets will inevitably lead to low prediction accuracy while slowing computational speeds. To help counter this inevitability, this study proposes a mean anomaly translating (MAT) transformer-based machinelearning model that predicts the operational state of power information systems while improving generalizability when processing with massive amounts of data. The proposed MAT algorithm eliminates the influence of local outliers in the time series, rendering the training data distribution more conducive to mining by retaining its original characteristics while more efficiently accommodating the prediction model. This improves prediction accuracy when combined with the nonlinear correlation variable screening method. A real-world power industry dataset containing 170,000 information system status records was used to test the proposed method, and accurate predictions and generation of prediction intervals for CPU and memory metrics demonstrate the effectiveness of the method.

Abstract:This study proposes a short-term load prediction method of a bidirectional long short-term memory network based on feature mining of the power consumption big data in combination with the attention mechanism (AT) of Bayesian optimization to address the problems that a considerable amount of feature factors exist and the feature relationship is obscured in the historical power consumption big data. The method comprehensively considers the global features of the power consumption data in space and the local features in time. First, the Cen-CK-means clustering method is used to cluster the electricity consumption data of users, and the statistical, combination, and time category characteristics are extracted according to the meteorological factors related to load over multiple time scales. Second, the Bayesian and bidirectional long and short memory networks are combined to extract the temporal and spatial characteristics of the load data itself. Meanwhile, the AT is introduced to automatically assign the corresponding weights to the hidden layer state of the bidirectional long and short memory. This task is carried out to distinguish the importance of the different time load series, which can effectively reduce the loss of historical information and highlight information about key historical time points. Finally, taking the first type of load as an example, compared with the SVP, RBPNN, BiLSTM, and BO-BiLSTM algorithms, the MAPE index is reduced by 1.05%, 1.75%, 0.52%, and 0.26%, respectively. RMSE decreased by 186.61, 154.93, 91.88, and 15.76 MW, respectively, while R2 increased by 0.04, 0.07, 0.03, and 0.03, respectively. In the one-week forecast time, MAPE index decreased by 1.97%, 2.44%, 1.21%, and 0.6%, respectively; RMSE decreased by 271.18, 305.7, 183.13, and 97.91 MW, respectively; and R2 increased by 0.12, 0.08, 0.04, and 0.03, respectively.

Abstract:An accurate power load prediction in smart grid plays an important role in maintaining the balance between power supply and demand, and thus ensuring the safe and stable operation of power system. In this paper we develop a hybrid power load prediction model, which involves three main steps: data decomposition with the empirical mode decomposition method, intelligent data processes with the minimal redundancy maximal relevance method and the weighted gray relationship projection algorithm, and support vector machine prediction, whose parameters are optimized through the particle swarm optimization algorithm with a second-order oscillation and repulsive force factor. Moreover, we predict the power load with our hybrid forecasting model based on the real dataset from the electricity market in Singapore, and also compare our prediction results with those by using other prediction methods. Our comparison results show that the proposed novel hybrid forecasting model can generate a higher prediction accuracy and lower error.

Abstract:Based on realistic transformer dataset, this paper comes up with a method to predict the top oil temperature (TOT) of a main transformer based on the historic TOT, ambient temperature (AT), transformer load (TL) and present AT, TL. Technically, TOT is predicted by striking a balance between univariate time series prediction and multivariate prediction, more specifically, between considering time series features such as trend, seasonality and considering relationship among TOT, AT and TL. From the results, the proposed scheme significantly outperforms the tradition time series model and support vector regression.

Abstract:Mid-term and long-term electric energy demand prediction is essential for the planning and operations of the smart grid system. Mainly in countries where the power system operates in a deregulated environment. Traditional forecasting models fail to incorporate external knowledge while modern data-driven ignore the interpretation of the model, and the load series can be influenced by many complex factors making it difficult to cope with the highly unstable and nonlinear power load series. To address the forecasting problem, we propose a more accurate district level load prediction model Based on domain knowledge and the idea of decomposition and ensemble. Its main idea is three-fold: a) According to the non-stationary characteristics of load time series with obvious cyclicality and periodicity, decompose into series with actual economic meaning and then carry out load analysis and forecast. 2) Kernel Principal Component Analysis(KPCA) is applied to extract the principal components of the weather and calendar rule feature sets to realize data dimensionality reduction. 3) Give full play to the advantages of various models based on the domain knowledge and propose a hybrid model(XASXG) based on Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average model(ARIMA), support vector regression(SVR) and Extreme gradient boosting model(XGBoost). With such designs, it accurately forecasts the electricity demand in spite of their highly unstable characteristic. We compared our method with nine benchmark methods, including classical statistical models as well as state-of-the-art models based on machine learning, on the real time series of monthly electricity demand in four Chinese cities. The empirical study shows that the proposed hybrid model is superior to all competitors in terms of accuracy and prediction bias.

Abstract:The load forecasting of power system has great influence on the planning, controlling, and dispatching of power grid, thus it can bring a lot of benefits and make the power system more economical. Because so many conditions can influence the load, it is a challenge for us to obtain more precise forecasting results even if on the digital age. With the rapid developing of Big Data technology and a lot of Artificial Intelligence algorithms coming, we can find some new methods that can help us improve the load forecasting accuracy. In this paper, we make some predictions with short-term load forecasting of power system based on some characteristics that the power system can easily collect, such as active power, reactive power, voltage and so on. Then a new intelligent model named Seq2Seq-Attention is established based on the theory of LSTM and the thinking of Attention function. The model can combine the data from different hours of days through different weights and express the hidden relationship of hours precisely. Therefore, we can solve the load forecasting problem of stations better with the historical multidimensional and time series featured data according to the model. Finally, a simulation model is generated and the day-ahead load forecasting of substations is verified by using the TensorFlow deep learning framework. The results can strongly prove the accuracy and practicability of the proposed model.

Abstract:During an era of rapid growth in electricity demand throughout society, accurate forecasting of electricity loads has become increasingly important to guarantee a stable power supply. Nevertheless, historical models do not address the structure of the data itself, and a single model cannot accurately determine the nonlinear characteristics of the data. This would not allow for accurate and stable predictions. With the aim of filling this gap, this paper proposes an innovative intelligent power load point-interval forecasting system. The system discretizes the time series, then performs efficient dimensionality reduction by fuzzification, and multi-level optimization of five benchmark deep learning models by the proposed multi-objective optimization algorithm, and finally analyzes the uncertainty of the prediction results. Experiments comparing the developed prediction system with other models were conducted on three datasets, and the prediction results were discussed for validation from multiple perspectives. The simulation results show that the proposed model has superior prediction accuracy, robustness and uncertainty analysis capability, and can provide accurate deterministic prediction information and fluctuation interval analysis to ensure the long-term safety and stability and operation of the grid.

Abstract:Having a better understanding of the customs of consumers'electricity consumption and the accurate load forecasting of in-dividual consumer are of great significance to demand response implement and high efficient power system operation. Firstly the load characteristics of large consumers are analyzed,and it is pointed out that the load profiles of large consumers have characteristics such as large in volume and wide in coverage,variant in load features,highly short-term correlative with historic load,notable in fluctua-tion,and without clear periodic characteristic. According to these characteristics,a wavelet de-nosing and decision tree based method for pattern extraction and load forecasting is proposed. The method mines data of consumer's historical load and extracts their utiliza-tion patterns,then personalizes loads forecasting of consumers based on different utilization patterns. Case studies on 50 typical large consumers in a province of China show that the proposed method is superior to other forecasting methods in accuracy.

Abstract:Electrical load forecasting is of great significance, which can guarantee the system stability under large disturbances and optimize the distribution of energy resources in the smart grid. Load forecasting of distribution is a very active research field and an important aspect, as the load power of distribution transformer is closely related to the health and reliable of the power grid. Deep Learning technology have shown to be very powerful in load forecasting of distribution. Based on the deep learning technology, this paper uses the historical load data of distribution transformer to establish an appropriate prediction model to predict the future load of transformer. In this paper, the long short-term memory(LSTM) model is used to predict the distribution transformer load. The idea of integrated learning is used to improve the accuracy of LSTM network in load forecasting. The input dimension of the model is enriched to solve the problem that the model cannot be built due to the lack of historical data. Finally, the experimental results show the superiority of the proposed method.

Abstract:Forecasting accuracy electricity load can help industrial enterprises optimise production scheduling based on peak and off-peak electricity prices. The electricity load forecasting results can be provided to an electricity system to improve electricity generation efficiency and minimize energy consumption by developing electricity generation plans in advance and by avoiding over or under the generation of electricity. However, because of the different informatization levels in different industries, few reliable intelligent electricity management systems are applied on the power supply side. Based on industrial big data and machine learning algorithms, this study proposes an integrated model to forecast short-term electricity load. The hybrid model based on the hybrid mode decomposition algorithms is proposed to decompose the total electricity load signal. To improve the generalisation ability of the forecasting model, a dynamic forecasting model is proposed based on the improved hybrid intelligent algorithm to forecast the short-term electricity load. The results show that the accuracy of the proposed dynamic integrated electricity load forecasting model is as high as 99%. The integrated framework could forecast abnormal electricity consumption in time and provide reliable evidence for production process scheduling.

Abstract:This paper proposes a load forecasting method based on LSTM model, fully explores the regularity of historical load data of industrial park enterprises, inputs the data features into LSTM units for feature extraction, and applies the attention-based model for load forecasting. The experiments show that the accuracy of our prediction model and early warning model is better than that of the baseline and can reach the standard of application in practice; this model can also be used for early warning of local sudden large loads and identification of enterprise power demand. Therefore, the validity of the method proposed in this paper is verified using the historical dataset of industrial parks, and relevant technical products and business models are formed to provide value-added services to users by combining existing practical cases for the specific scenario of industrial parks.
