Abstract:In recent years, there has been a great deal of research into the remediation of contaminated soil using low-temperature plasma technology. Nevertheless, the majority of studies have concentrated on soil discharge under direct current (DC) voltage, with only limited investigation into the mechanisms of soil discharge. The objective of this paper is to investigate the mechanism of soil discharge under pulse voltage. In this study, pulse voltages were applied to needle electrodes embedded in diatomaceous earth, and the morphological characteristics and changes in luminous intensity of soil discharge under different voltage conditions were investigated. The experimental results indicated that when the pulse voltage was below 4 kV, no significant discharge phenomena were observed. However, when the voltage exceeded 4 kV, discharge luminescence began to appear, initially with low luminosity, accompanied by the emergence of several discharge streamer branches. As the voltage increases from 4 kV to 16 kV, the discharge phenomena become more pronounced, with an increased number of discharge branches and longer streamer lengths. The research in this paper supports future research on soil discharge.
