The Expression of Estrogen Receptor Α, Β in Different Breast Tissues and Its Relation with Breast Cancer

Abstract:Objective To study the expression of estrogen receptor α,β in different breast tissues and the relation with breast cancer. Methods The expressions of Erα、Erβ were detected in 202 patients' samples by immunohistochemistry. The specimens were divided into normal mammary glands( 15 cases), benign hyperplasia of mammary glands( 35 cases), atypical hyperplasia of mammary glands(12 cases) and breast cancers(155 cases). Results The positive rates of Erα in normal mammary glands, benign hyperplasia of mammary glands, atypical hyperplasia of mammary glands and breast cancers were 46. 6% , 54. 3% , 58. 3% , 68. 4% respectively. The positive rates of Erβ were 93. 3% , 88. 6% , 75% and 42.6% respectively; Erα had no statistically significant difference between normal and malignancy mammary glands(P 0.05); the positive rate of Erβ in normal mammary glands was significantly higher than that in breast cancers(P 0.001); the positive rate of Erα in normal mammary glands was significantly lower than that of Erβ( P 0.05); and the positive rate of Erα in malignancy mammary glands was significantly higher than that of Erβ( F 0.001). The expressions of Erα in cases -2 cm,breast cancer with staging I, without lymph node metastasis and without metastasis were significantly higher than those 2 cm, with staging II + III + IV , with lymph node metastasis and with metastasis ( P 0.001、 P0.001、P0.01、P0.05). The expressions of Erβ in cases -2 cm,breast cancer with staging I were significantly higher than those 2 cm and with staging II + IIII + IV(P0.001,P0.01). Conclusion The expression of Erβ is higher in normal mammary glands,Erβ has important impact in occurrence and development of breast cancer; the higher expressions of Erα and Erβ are correlated with the good prognosis of breast cancer, they are both important indexes in the prognosis of breast cancers.
