Abstract:Snails(Cipangopaludina chinensis Gray) with the size of(2.69±0.21) g were put in 6 tanks(62 cm×78 cm×50 cm) of 5 kg snails each. Two species of microalgae containing abundant carotenoid, spirulina and Haematococcus pluvialis, were fed to these snails by 12 g and 10 g per day respectively, and water circulation system and bumping air were conducted to keep the uniform distribution of microalgae powder.About 200 g snails were picked up before feeding and on the 4 th,8 th,12 th after feeding to detect the contents of carotenoid by spectrophotometric method. The results showed that carotenoid content in snails fed by spirulina increased from 42.5 μg/g to 69.1 μg/g in 8 days after feeding, but didn′t increase markedly in the following days.Carotenoid content in snails fed by H.pluvialis reached 213.31 μg/g in 4 days after feeding, and it kept increasing slowly. This result indicated that snails were suitable to be a medium by transferring carotenoid to crab via food chain.
