Abstract:The paper puts forward an improved non-linear grey model GMP(1,1,a)and applies it in the forecasting of port container throughput.Through a case study,it is found that the model can predict with high accuracy and thus is of certain practical value.

Abstract:According to the situation of lack of statistical data, this paper makes use of the time sequence prediction theory of nonlinear grey GM(1,1,α) Model to predict the port throughput based on the data of LianYungang port throughput from 2003 to 2007, and expounds the application of nonlinear grey forecasting method. Results show that the nonlinear grey GM(1,1,α) model can prediction of adaptability, high precision, simple, and can effectively solve the port throughput prediction problem.

Abstract:Forecasting short-term traffic flow is a key issue in the field of Intelligent Traffic System (ITS). Most of the existing researches are oriented to urban road network, the development of urban traffic flow forecasting technology provides a good reference for traffic flow forecasting in the port. However, the complexity and uncertainty of port traffic determine that it is necessary to study the forecasting methods of port traffic flow pertinently. Based on the K- Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm, this paper forecasted short-term traffic flow, and defined the factors affecting short-term traffic flow in the port, such as port working status and operation instruction characteristics, as state vector, and used K-Dimension Tree (KD tree) to reduce the time complexity of neighbor searching. One-month traffic flow data of an inland port in Chongqing was selected to verify the prediction algorithm. Firstly, the number of neighbors was identified, and 8 was the best, then the prediction accuracy was verified to meet the usage requirements, which could provide reference for scientific planning and management of port traffic.

Abstract:The gray theory and the artificial neural network as two well-established tools for load forecasting have their respective advantages and disadvantages and the applicable scope. The union ways of the two load forecasting tools in predecessor's foundation were summarized and the union ways were classified into five kinds of definition: synthetic parallel connection model, synthetic series connection model, neural network system with auxiliary grey system model, grey system with auxiliary neural network system model and compensated model. Based on the actual need, the synthetic series connection model was chosen for modeling of weekly monthly load. The actual examples prove that the synthetic series connection has better accuracy in weekly monthly load forecasting than the gray forecast model or the artificial neural network forecast model.

Abstract:Based on the investigation and analysis of the traffic volume in highway tunnel group region, the development trend of traffic volume is analyzed by Grey model. Then the prediction accuracy is improved by Markov optimization. The method in this paper has a better prediction accuracy and practicality in a period than other common prediction methods. It can be used for the prediction analysis of traffic volume and for early warning by highway management.

Abstract:Utilizing the accurate and reliable demand forecasting model for the port logistics industry decision makers, can prevent misguided decisions ensuing from inaccurate forecasting. Current forecasting models of container throughput forecasting focus on the development of single or related hybrid models. However, these studies focus on improving the forecast accuracy, while neglecting the risk of failure. Combination forecasting can improve the forecast accuracy and reduce the risks from model selection failure. The previous research on port container throughput (PCT) combination forecasting focused on using a small number of linear models to generate the combined values, and neglected the nonlinear combined models reflecting the interaction between variables. Given the significance of combination forecasting for the PCT prediction, this study establishes a nonlinear combined model using the grey relational analysis (GRA) and Choquet fuzzy integral. The empirical results indicate that the proposed combined model outperforms both the other considered linear and nonlinear models. The findings assist the port decision-makers in both the public and private sectors for understanding the future PCT, and devising timely response plans aligned with actual circumstances and trends, besides formulating the appropriate development plans and decisions to modify the current situation or sustain competitive advantages.

Prediction of Port Throughput Based on Markov Chain-Time Series Analysis

Abstract:A novel approach of port throughput scientific forecast was studied by a comparative analyzing between the time series analysis(TSA) and Markov chain method.TSA and the Markov chain were both used to make prediction according to nearly twenty years historical throughput data of Wenzhou port.A composite model,which was made up by TSA and Markov chain,was also applied to make prediction of port throughput,and put Markov chain into a role of calibration mechanism.Results show that prediction accuracy of composite model is significantly improved by 50% than TSA,dramatically improved by 75% than single Markov chain.Markov chain-TSA forecasting model was established based on the results of verifying actual throughput data.The model can both reflect the growth trend and random properties of fluctuations in the time series of port throughput.The model is more in line with the actual throughput of the port changes.

Abstract:Prediction of the railway freight volume is the important basis of policy-making departments to make strategies. In practice, it's difficult to get all the information that affect freight transport volume, so using grey forecasting model will reach the target with only poor information. In this paper, the GM (1, 1) model, Dynamic GM(1, 1) model and modified residual error GM(1, 1) model are used to predict the rail freight volume and test the precision of the models. The experiment result shows that modified residual error GM(1,1)model has the highest accuracy and is suitable for short-time forecasting of freight volume. © 2008 IEEE.

Abstract:Containerisation is regarded as an important driving force of globalisation and international trade and has prompted the development of global ports. Accurately forecasting container throughput is crucial to maritime port planning and management. Previous studies have shown that combination forecasting not only has a higher predictive accuracy than that of a single model, but can also reduce the risk of failure during model selection. In this study, we propose a model of non-additive combination forecasting by using the fuzzy integral, to reflect the correlation between forecasting models. We used the quarterly container throughput of eight ports in China to test the proposed model. The empirical results were promising and indicated that the proposed model can outperform prevalent models of combination forecasting. This paper contributes to decision makers better understand expected demand for logistics of ports and adequately run for the long-term development planning and day-to-day operations.

Abstract:Accurately forecasting container port throughput over the medium-term is crucial for making informed investment decisions by companies. However, current methods suffer from poor accuracy in dealing with complex, non-linear fluctuations and time series of uncertain demand. This research presents a novel hybrid framework that combines deep learning techniques with the distinctive features of seaborne transport to tackle this problem. The proposed approach employs variational mode decomposition (VMD) for decomposing the initial time series, thereby addressing prediction errors caused by disturbances and abrupt changes in the original data. In addition, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is utilized to optimize the selection of parameters for VMD, aiming to achieve optimal outcomes in the decomposition process. Gated Recurrent Units (GRU) are then employed to accurately predict each intrinsic mode function (IMF) generated by the VMD. To obtain the final forecasts, the predictions of each IMF component are aggregated. Our results indicate that the proposed model performs better in demand forecasts, compared to traditional methods. According to our experimental results, the VMD has better numerical stability, noise removal, physical significance, and computational efficiency compared to other decomposing methods such as Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (EEMD). The forecast results can approximate the development paths of the Guangzhou, Qingdao and Shanghai ports. This can help port operators and policymakers to prepare themselves for possible market fluctuations in the medium term, and make comprehensive adjustments and managemental decisions, such as capacity planning, on time.

Abstract:In the traditional gray prediction model,the traditional background value formula and initial value selection method could result in deviation of the model.Though improving the background value formula and changing the initial value selection method,the paper constructs a higher predition accuracy gray model-optimized GM(1,1) and integrates it with Markov chain.The paper analyzes and predicts railway freight volume in China and concludes on the prediction interval and the probability of occurrence.A subsequent examples shows that the method is more reliable than its traditional counterpart.

Abstract:The grey prediction is a common method in the prediction. Studies show that general grey models have high modeling precision when the time sequence varies slowly, but some grey models show low modeling precision for the high-growth sequence. The paper researches the grey modeling for the high-growth sequence using the extended nonlinear grey Bernoulli model NGBM(1,1,t⌃p, α ). To improve the nonlinear grey Bernoulli model NGBM(1,1,t⌃p, α )’s prediction precision and make data have better adaptability to the model, the paper makes improvements in the following three aspects: (1) the paper improves the accumulated generating sequence of original time sequence, i.e. making a new transformation of traditional accumulated generating sequence; (2) the paper improves the model’s structure, extends the grey action and builds an extended nonlinear grey Bernoulli model NGBM(1,1,t⌃p, α ); (3) the paper improves the model’s background value and uses the value of cubic spline function to approximate the background value. Because the parameters of the new accumulated generating sequence transformed, the nonlinear grey Bernoulli model’s time response equation and the background value are optimized simultaneously, the prediction precision increases greatly. The paper builds an extended nonlinear grey Bernoulli model NGBM(1,1,t⌃2, α ) using the method proposed and seven comparison models for China’s express delivery volume per capita. Comparison results show that the extended nonlinear grey Bernoulli model built with the method proposed has high simulation and prediction precision and shows the precision superior to that of seven comparison models.

Abstract:Accurate forecasting of port container throughput plays a crucial role in optimising port operations, resource allocation, supply chain management, etc. However, existing studies only focus on the impact of port hinterland economic development on container throughput, ignoring the impact of port foreland. This study proposed a container throughput forecasting model based on deep learning, which considers the impact of port hinterland and foreland on container throughput. Real-world experimental results showed that the proposed model with multiple data sources outperformed other forecasting methods, achieving significantly higher accuracy. The implications of this study are significant for port authorities, logistics companies, and policymakers.

Abstract:Traditionally, the port container throughput, a crucial measurement of regional economic development, was manually collected by port authorities. This requires a large amount of human effort and often delays publication of this important figure. In this paper, by leveraging ubiquitous positioning techniques and open data, we propose a two-phase approach to estimation of port container throughput in real-time. First, we obtain the number of container ships arriving at berth by analyzing the ships' GPS traces. Then we estimate the throughput of each ship, in terms of number of containers transshipped, by considering the ship's berthing time, capacity, length, breadth, and crane operation performance, as extracted from different data sources. Evaluation results using real-world datasets from Hong Kong and Singapore show that the proposed approach not only estimates the container throughput quite accurately, but also outperforms the baseline method significantly.

Abstract:In this paper the author uses grey prediction combined with BP neural network method to establish a new model named grey neural network, and the apple output in China is estimated. The forecast data of grey prediction GM (1, 1) were used as the input variable of BP neural network, the actual output were as output variable. Grey neural network forecasted the apple output in China in 2004 2005, its precision were 98.11% 98.45%, higher than any single grey prediction or BP neural network method.

Abstract:Network Traffic prediction plays an important part in network measurement.By measuring and predicting,traffic within and between networks and its tendency can be grasped.Thus,the network and its balanced load can be better reconstructed.Based on the multi-time scale and the nonlinear character of the real-timely traffic time series,the grey markov model combining grey system theory and Markov chain is put forward.This method synthesizes the advantages of GM forecasting method,which is simple and needs less original data,and of Markov method which possesses the characteristics of nonlinear fitting.The method is used to build model of real network traffic,and the results are much better,and the practical application results show the proposed approach is feasible and effective.

Abstract:With the rapid development of ports, the port industry continues to focus on the function, service, and value chains. Further accelerating the high-quality development of ports has become crucial to promoting urban construction and economic development. Dongjiakou Port is an important shipping and logistics hub in the center of the Bohai Economic Rim and the Northeast Asia economic circle, which has superior deep-water resources. Through active transformation and upgrade, it has become an international trade hub with sustainable practices. This research examined Dongjiakou Port as a case study and employed a grey prediction model to analyze and predict port throughput and to determine the indicators and impact factors for a green port. In addition, the grey model and principal component analysis were used to predict the throughput of Dongjiakou Port from 2021 to 2025, and the effectiveness of the model was verified by comparing the predicted and actual throughput from 2014 to 2020. In addition, this research also provided suggestions for the sustainable development of ports from the aspects of port planning, port cargo structures, and effective port governance and development. The prediction model can provide support for future port planning and port design, to a certain extent, and can also provide references for predicting port throughput and promoting the construction of new ports and sustainable port development.

Abstract:In this paper,three sliding method is used to optimize grey GM(1,1)model,fuzzy clustering FCM algorithm is used to improve the divide of Markov model group stage,and the weighted Markov chain algorithm with a variety of step length is used to predict the annual precipitation.Then the improved grey model and Markov model is combined to forecast the regional annual precipitation.The results show that the improved grey-Markov model can not only improve the changeful precipitation data prediction accuracy of Markov model,but also make full use of the grey system's advantage of high precision,so improves the prediction accuracy.

Abstract:Expressway traffic generation is an essencial part in expressway network planning.Population,land use,etc are required to be considered in traditional forecasting method,the process is very complex.Gray Forecast Models can be used to establish models to forecast with less data.Owing to the randomness and fluctuation of the data from expressway traffic genration the data fitting is difficult with low precision.This paper improves the model by considering these factors,and brings forward improved Gray-Markov forecast models.In the end of this paper,the forecast model is applied in expressway traffic generation,which gets good result.

Abstract:Rail transport can be recognized as the main artery of the national economy. Therefore is very useful and important to forecast the rail cargo more accurately. In this paper, we first review the development of cargo forecasting methods, which have been studied for about 50 years. The character of each model will be analyzed and summarized. Then, on the basis of existing models of study, we adopt an improved stepwise regression model and Grey Model to forecast the rail cargo in Beijing. According to the analysis of related factors, we improve the stepwise regression model by adding average transport distance into the parameters. At last, we compare the two models, of which the basic ideas are completely different, and finally give their scopes of application. We hope it is a meaningful pursuit in the area of rail cargo estimation. © 2011 ASCE.
