Abstract:The effect of micro-algal species on algae removal rate in coagulation, and the measures to control algae concentration in the effluent of coagulation- filtration process were investigated. The increase of micro-species fraction would decrease algae removal rate in coagulation, consequently, the algae removal rate in coagulation was determined by micro-algal species. When more algal species existed, pre-oxidation might improve algae removal. The increase of filtration bed depth could increase micro-algal species removal rate noticeably. Moreover, deep treatment of activated carbon could also remove micro-algal species from water efficiently. Therefore, the difficulty in removing algae was mainly determined by structure of algal species population, rather than content of chlorophyll in the eutrophicated raw water. The choice of process to remove algae in water works was determined by structure of algal species population. Enhancing raw water conservation, regulating and optimizing structure of algal species population were fundamental approach to solve the problem of algae removal in water works.
