Abstract:This study aims to explore the prosodic prominence of discourse markers(DMs)in English majors read speech in terms of independent tone group, prominence and non-prominence within a tone group. The data of 14 English majors' reading aloud in four years are taken from the Longitudinal Spoken English Corpus of Chinese Learners (LSECCL). The findings show that the students have a much better command of Type II DMs,that over the four semesters, their prosodic ability of Type I has improved while that of Type II tends to decline, and that they do comparatively better at the phrasal DMs of Type I and those of Type II that express coordination.
