Thinking on the Revision of Geography Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education

Abstract:It has been ten years since the publication of the geography curriculum standard for the fulltime compulsory education.During 2003 and 2004,the ministry of education had the standard to be revised for the first time,but the revision was not published.In 2007,the ministry of education lunched a second revision for the standard.Plenty of surveys has been done before the second revision.There were 19 experimental plots and 272 geography teachers involved in the first revision survey while 42 experimental plots and 1620 geography teachers participated in the second revision survey.The findings suggested that teachers basically regarded the curriculum standard as positive and over 400 specific advices were proposed in the mean time.Therefore,the two revisions generally keep the design of the precious standard and the inner structure of the curriculum content.The accuracy of the curriculum standard is the focus of the revision and there are dozens of modifications in the curriculum standard.Geography textbook will also be revised overall after the publish of the 2011 geography curriculum standard for the full-time compulsory education and the new curriculum will enter a new stage.
