A New Magnesium Alloy and Its Application

Abstract:In this paper,new Mg-6Al-0.3Mn-xRE series of magnesium alloys,where x=0.4,0.8,1.2,1.6,and 2.0 wt%,were developed on the basis of the commercial AM60B magnesium alloy.The microstructure,mechanical properties,fracture behavior, castability,and heat treatment process of these alloys were investigated in order to obtain an alloy with high strength and toughness. Using Mg-6Al-0.3Mn-1.6RE alloy some automobile wheel castings were produced by gravity casting,and the surface treatment technology of the wheels was studied preliminarily.
