Abstract:Nine urban soil samples with varying particle distribution were collected and separated into six particle fractions. The total and available Cu,Cd,Co,and Pb concentrations in different particle fractions were analyzed. The results showed that the <0.05 mm fraction had metal contents on average several times higher than those of other fractions. The percentages of total metals as available from were higher in 0.250~0.125 mm and 0.125~0.050 mm fractions than other fractions.Soil texture had a significant effect on the distribution of metals in different particle fractions.A negative correlation was found between clay content and the metal content of the clay fraction, suggesting that more metals would be enriched on the clay particles in soils with low clay content. This implies that texture is a significant facror in metal distribution in soils.Sandy soil had greater impact on mankind health than clay or loamy soils for same soil heavy metal level.
