Abstract:In this study, a thorough investigation was conducted into the Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM) and its application to solve the Burger and Blasius equations. The HPM is a mathematical technique that combines aspects of homotopy and perturbation methods. By introducing an auxiliary parameter, the complex problems were transformed into a series of simpler equations that could be solved step by step. The results of the study are significant. The HPM was found to be effective in solving the Burger and Blasius equations quickly and accurately. It proved to be a valuable tool for handling challenging mathematical problems. Consequently, researchers encountering seemingly impossible math puzzles can consider employing HPM as a potential solution.

Abstract:This research aims to propose a new family of one-parameter multi-step iterative methods that combine the homotopy perturbation method with a quadrature formula for solving nonlinear equations. The proposed methods are based on a higher-order convergence scheme that allows for faster and more efficient convergence compared to existing methods. It aims also to demonstrate that the efficiency index of the proposed iterative methods can reach up to 43≈1.587 and 84≈1.681, respectively, indicating a high degree of accuracy and efficiency in solving nonlinear equations. To evaluate the effectiveness of the suggested methods, several numerical examples including their performance are provided and compared with existing methods.

Abstract:The purpose of the present paper is to introduce a method, probably for the first time, to predict the multiplicity of the solutions of nonlinear boundary value problems. This procedure can be easily applied on nonlinear ordinary differential equations with boundary conditions. This method, as will be seen, besides anticipating of multiplicity of the solutions of the nonlinear differential equations, calculates effectively the all branches of the solutions (on the condition that, there exist such solutions for the problem) analytically at the same time. In this manner, for practical use in science and engineering, this method might give new unfamiliar class of solutions which is of fundamental interest and furthermore, the proposed approach convinces to apply it on nonlinear equations by today’s powerful software programs so that it does not need tedious stages of evaluation and can be used without studying the whole theory. In fact, this technique has new point of view to well-known powerful analytical method for nonlinear differential equations namely homotopy analysis method (HAM). Everyone familiar to HAM knows that the convergence-controller parameter plays important role to guarantee the convergence of the solutions of nonlinear differential equations. It is shown that the convergence-controller parameter plays a fundamental role in the prediction of multiplicity of solutions and all branches of solutions are obtained simultaneously by one initial approximation guess, one auxiliary linear operator and one auxiliary function. The validity and reliability of the method is tested by its application to some nonlinear exactly solvable differential equations which is practical in science and engineering.

Abstract:Iterative methods are crucial in numerical analysis for approximating solutions to nonlinear problems encountered in various fields, such as biomathematics, thermodynamics, chemical engineering, and fluid mechanics. This paper introduces innovative iterative methods of convergence orders three and six to eight, developed using the homotopy perturbation technique (HPT). We address the limitations of traditional derivative-based methods by incorporating divided differences, resulting in derivative-free schemes with optimal convergence properties. We present four newly designed algorithms (HPM1, HPM2, HPM3, and HPM4) and provide a comprehensive convergence analysis. Numerical simulations and basins of attraction demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed methods compared to existing methods of the same order. The proposed methods exhibit faster convergence and larger basins of attraction, making them highly effective for solving nonlinear equations. Our new numerical methods rely on approximations and iterative processes, with each small step bringing us closer to the exact solution. Exploring these numerical methods encourages us to apply mathematics to solve challenging problems in physics, engineering, finance, and more.

Abstract:A symplectic numerical approach to the stability analysis of nonlinear parametric excited systems with multi-degree-of-freedom is developed and the stability of a nonlinear vibration system depends on the dynamic behavior of its perturbation. The nonlinear parameter-varying differential equations for the perturbation motion are expressed in the form of Hamiltonian equations with time-varying Hamiltonian, and are converted further into the classical Hamiltonian equations with extended time-invariant Hamiltonian by augmenting the state variables. The solution to the augmented Hamiltonian equations has the symplectic structure in terms of the symplectic transformation. Then the difference equations of the symplectic Runge-Kutta algorithm with a sufficient condition are constructed, which is proved to preserve the intrinsic symplectic structure of the original solution. In particular, the symplectic Gauss-Runge-Kutta algorithm with stage 2 and order 4 is proposed and applied to the stability analysis of a nonlinear system. Unstable regions based on the nonlinear periodic-parameter perturbation equation are obtained by using the symplectic Gauss-Runge-Kutta algorithm, analytical solution method and non-symplectic conventional Runge-Kutta algorithm to verify the higher accuracy of the proposed algorithm. Unstable regions based on the nonlinear perturbation are given to illustrate the improvement over those based on the linear perturbation. The developed symplectic approach to the stability analysis can preserve the symplectic structure of the original system and is applicable to nonlinear parametric excited systems with multi-degree-of-freedom.

Abstract:The paper aims to show the equivalency between nonlinear complementarity problem and the system of nonlinear equations. We propose a homotopy method with vector parameter $\lambda$ in finding the solution of nonlinear complementarity problem through a system of nonlinear equations. We propose a smooth and bounded homotopy path to obtain solution of the system of nonlinear equations under some conditions. An oligopolistic market equilibrium problem is considered to show the effectiveness of the proposed homotopy continuation method. Abstract:In this paper, we present an adaptive step-size homotopy tracking method for computing bifurcation points of nonlinear systems. There are four components in this new method: 1) an adaptive tracking technique is developed near bifurcation points; 2) an inflation technique is backed up when the adaptive tracking fails; 3) Puiseux series interpolation is used to compute bifurcation points; and 4)the tangent cone structure of the bifurcation point is approximated numerically to compute solutions on different branches. Various numerical examples of nonlinear systems are given to illustrate the efficiency of this new approach. This new adaptive homotopy tracking method is also applied to a system of nonlinear PDEs and shows robustness and efficiency for large-scale nonlinear discretized systems.

Abstract:This paper proposes a symmetry-homotopy hybrid algorithm to solve boundary value problems of partial differential equations. Firstly, the multi-parameter symmetry is used to reduce the studied problem to a simpler initial value problem of ordinary differential equations. Then the homotopy perturbation method is employed to obtain its solution. The results reveal that the proposed method is very effective and can be applied for other nonlinear problems.

Abstract:This paper deals with the problem of computing Lyapunov functions for asymptotic stability analysis of autonomous polynomial systems of differential equations. We propose a new semi-algebraic approach bymaking advantage of the local property of the Lyapunov function as well as its derivative. This is done by first constructing a semi-algebraic system and then solving this semi-algebraic system in an adaptive way. Experiment results show that our semi-algebraic approach is more efficient in practice, especially for low-order systems. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a symmetry-homotopy hybrid algorithm to solve boundary value problem of a partial differential equations. We are interesting to consider each other complementariness of both homotopy perturbation method(HPM) and symmetry method to solve boundary value problem of a partial differential equations. In this algorithm, the multi-parameter symmetries of a given partial differential equations provide the reductions of the boundary value problem to a initial value problem of the reduced original differential equation(ODE). The reduction is smaller by properly selection of the symmetry parameters. Then homotopy perturbation method gives the solutions of the initial value problem. Consequently, we solve the boundary value problem by combination of two methods.

Abstract:In the paper, two new analytic methods using the decomposition and linearization technique on nonlinear differential/integral equations are developed, namely, the decomposition–linearization–sequential method (DLSM) and the linearized homotopy perturbation method (LHPM). The DLSM is realized by an integrating factor and the integral of certain function obtained at the previous step for obtaining a sequential analytic solution of nonlinear differential equation, which provides quite accurate analytic solution. Some first- and second-order nonlinear differential equations display the fast convergence and accuracy of the DLSM. An analytic approximation for the Volterra differential–integral equation model of the population growth of a species is obtained by using the LHPM. In addition, the LHPM is also applied to the first-, second-, and third-order nonlinear ordinary differential equations. To reduce the cost of computation of He's homotopy perturbation method and enhance the accuracy for solving cubically nonlinear jerk equations, the LHPM is implemented by invoking a linearization technique in advance is developed. A generalization of the LHPM to the nth-order nonlinear differential equation is involved, which can greatly simplify the work to find an analytic solution by solving a set of second-order linear differential equations. A remarkable feature of those new analytic methods is that just a few steps and lower-order approximations are sufficient for producing reasonably accurate analytic solutions. For all examples, the second-order analytic solution x2(t) is found to be a good approximation of the real solution. The accuracy of the obtained approximate solutions are identified by the fourth-order Runge–Kutta method. The major objection is to unify the analytic solution methods of different nonlinear differential equations by simply solving a set of first-order or second-order linear differential equations. It is clear that the new technique considerably saves computational costs and converges faster than other analytical solution techniques existing in the literature, including the Picard iteration method. Moreover, the accuracy of the obtained analytic solution is raised.

Abstract:The multi-homogenous homotopy continuation method can solve all isolated solutions of polynomial systems. Different variable partition yields different multi-homogenous Bézout number, which gives the upper bound of the number of isolated solutions. However, the computation of the multi-homogenous Bézout number is hard. In this paper, the permanent formulation of the multi-homogenous Bézout number is considered. The intensive and systemic computations are made for the method of row expansion with memory, the precise and the approximate permanent methods. Each of these methods has its own advantage. Hence a hybrid algorithm is naturally presented. This method works for n about 30 contrasting with 15 before, where n is the number of the variables of the polynomial system.

Abstract:The homotopy perturbation method with an auxiliary term is applied to obtain an approximate analytical solution for the tangent nonlinear packaging system. To further raise the accuracy of the solution, this work has expanded the possibility of the energy method for the homotopy perturbation method with an auxiliary term. And then, the amplitude and frequency of the tangent nonlinear packaging system can be calculated. The results show that the solution is in good consistent with the numerical solution solved by the Runge–Kutta method. It can be concluded that the proposed method is suitable for the optimal design of a tangent nonlinear packaging system.

Abstract:We present an algorithm for constructing numerical solutions to one-dimensional nonlinear, variable coefficient boundary value problems. This scheme is based upon applying the Homotopy Analysis Method (HAM) to decompose a nonlinear differential equation into a series of linear differential equations that can be solved using a sparse, spectrally accurate Gegenbauer discretisation. Uniquely for nonlinear methods, our scheme involves constructing a single, sparse matrix operator that is repeatedly solved in order to solve the full nonlinear problem. As such, the resulting scheme scales quasi-linearly with respect to the grid resolution. We demonstrate the accuracy, and computational scaling of this method by examining a fourth-order nonlinear variable coefficient boundary value problem by comparing the scheme to Newton-Iteration and the Spectral Homotopy Analysis Method, which is the most commonly used implementation of the HAM.

Abstract:In this paper, a smoothing homotopy method for solving the nonlinear complementarity problem is considered. The homotopy equation is constructed based on Chen-Harker-Kanzow-Smale smooth function. Under certain mild non-monotone condition, the global convergence result is obtained. Furthermore, the initial point can be chosen almost everywhere in R-n but not just in R-+(n). The numerical experimental results show that the method is effective.

Abstract:Multi-homogeneous homotopy continuation method is one of the most efficient approaches in solving all isolated solutions of a polynomial system of equations. Finding the optimal partition of variables with the minimal multihomogeneous Bezout number is clearly an optimization problem. Multi-homogeneous continuation using the optimal partition of variables reduces the computational cost in path tracking to the minimum. In this article, a heuristic method for finding the optimal variable partition is constructed based on backward greedy idea. Numerical examples show the efficiency of the method.
