Abstract:Molecular imprinting technique is a borderline subject which combines the advantages of the subjects of high polymer chemistry, analytical chemistry and science of material. Molecular imprinting technique is a novel technique based on mimicking specification of antibody-antigen. The study of fluorescent molecular imprinting polymer sensors is a significant direction in the development of current sensors with a bright prospect. Fluorescent molecular imprinting polymer sensors combine the recognition ability and predetermined selectivity of molecular imprinting polymers with the high sensitivity of fluorescence analysis. This review summarizes the progress of fluorescent molecular imprinting polymer sensors in recent years. The mechanism of preparation, methods for monitoring binding sites and applications on organic small molecules and ions of fluorescent molecular imprinting polymer sensors are described in detail. Additionally, the development trend of fluorescent molecular imprinting polymer sensors is also discussed.

Abstract:Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs),as one of the most attractive research topics,offer unique advantages,such as high selectivity,predefined recognition properties,ease of preparation, low-cost production. The recent developments in the field of MIPs-based chemical sensors and sensor arrays are reviewed. The individual sensors with high selectivity,including electrochemical sensors, photochemical sensors and quality sensitive sensors are presented. Sensor arrays based on cross-reactivity of MIPs show limited application. Specifically,photochemical sensor arrays are discussed. The future development of MIPs-based sensors and sensor arrays would be guided by the understanding of imprinting process. MIPs-based sensors and sensor arrays chould show potential application in various fields,such as food analysis,drug control and environmental monitoring.

Abstract:With the development of molecular imprinting technology(MIT),the development and appli-cation of molecularly imprinted polymer membranes(MIM) have become one of the most attractive sub-jects.With the advantages of a little dosage of imprinting molecular,high efficiency of imprinting,low resistance of mass transfer,high throughput and stable property of reproducibility,molecularly imprinted composite membrane will play an important role in the achievement of its practical application in MIM separation.The main preparation methods of composite molecular imprinted membranes were introduced briefly and the influence factors were discussed.

Abstract:As a new polymer material,molecularly imprinted polymeric microspheres(MIPMs) have attracted great interest for peculiar molecular recognition.MIPMs have a series of advantages,such as excellent selectivity,high adsorption,high efficiency in chromatography and easy design.MIPMIS can be used in some high technology fields,for instance solid-phase microextraction and chiral separations of pharmaceutical etc.In this article,the main methods of preparation of MIPMs were introduced,the advantages and disadvantages of these methods were also summarized.The effects of the methods on the properties of MIPMs were discussed.The characteristics methods of structure and performance were also introduced in detail.On the base of these reviews,the problems need to be resolved and the trends of development were discussed.

Abstract:Inspired by the recognition mechanism of biological molecules, molecular imprinting techniques (MITs) are imparted with numerous merits like excellent stability, recognition specificity, adsorption properties, and easy synthesis processes, and thus broaden the avenues for convenient fabrication protocol of bio-inspired molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) with desirable functions to satisfy the extensive demands of biomedical applications. Herein, the recent research progress made with respect to bio-inspired imprinting materials is discussed in this review. First, the underlying mechanism and basic components of a typical molecular imprinting procedure are briefly explored. Then, emphasis is put on the introduction of diverse MITs and novel bio-inspired imprinting materials. Following these two sections, practical applications of MIPs in the field of biomedical science are focused on. Last but not least, perspectives on the remaining challenges and future development of bio-inspired imprinting materials are presented.

Abstract:Molecularly imprinted membrane (MIM), synthesized artificially, is a novel separation technique, which has excellent ability to recognize the template molecules. By the addition of template molecule in the process of preparation, MIM is endowed with memory and recognition function and could be used to separate with high selectivity and efficiency. A brief introduction of molecular imprinting technology (MIT) and molecularly imprinted membrane is outlined. The method of preparation of MIM is reviewed in this paper. Problems existing in the process of preparation and the prospects of application are also introduced.

Abstract:Molecular imprinting has emerged as an important and practical technology to create economical and stable synthetic mimics of antibodies and enzymes. It has already found a variety of important applications, such as affinity separation, chemical/biological sensing, disease diagnostics, proteomics, bioimaging, controlled drug release, and catalysis. In the past decade, significant breakthroughs have been made in non-covalently imprinted polymers, from their synthesis through to their applications. In terms of synthesis, quite a few versatile and facile imprinting approaches for preparing MIPs have been invented, which have effectively solved some key issues in molecular imprinting. Additionally, important applications in several areas, such as sensors, proteomics and bioimaging, have been well demonstrated. In this review, we critically and comprehensively survey key recent advances made in the preparation of non-covalently imprinted polymers and their important applications. We focus on the state-of-art of this technology from three different perspectives: fundamentals, synthetic strategies, and applications. We first provide a fundamental basis for molecular imprinting technologies that have been developed, which is extremely helpful for establishing a sound understanding of the challenges in molecular imprinting. Then, we discuss in particular the major breakthroughs within the last ten years (2014–2024), with emphasis on new imprinting approaches, what strengths the breakthroughs can provide, and which new applications the properties of the prepared non-covalently imprinted polymers are fit for.

Abstract:Molecular imprinting technology (MIT) concerns formation of selective sites in a polymer matrix with the memory of a template. Recently, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) have aroused extensive attention and been widely applied in many fields, such as solid-phase extraction, chemical sensors and artificial antibodies owing to their desired selectivity, physical robustness, thermal stability, as well as low cost and easy preparation. With the rapid development of MIT as a research hotspot, it faces a number of challenges, involving biological macromolecule imprinting, heterogeneous binding sites, template leakage, incompatibility with aqueous media, low binding capacity and slow mass transfer, which restricts its applications in various aspects. This critical review briefly reviews the current status of MIT, particular emphasis on significant progresses of novel imprinting methods, some challenges and effective strategies for MIT, and highlighted applications of MIPs. Finally, some significant attempts in further developing MIT are also proposed (236 references).

Abstract:Molecular imprinted technique has the characteristics of specificity and high selectivity.Its key is the screening of functional monomer and template molecule,polymerization and the elution of template molecule.The preparation methods of molecular imprinted polymers include embedding method,affinity imprinting method,freeze-drying method and surface imprinted method.Molecular imprinting technique is widely applied to analytical chemistry such as chromatographic analysis,environmental trace analysis,membrane separation,chiral separation,and the separation/ enrichment of metal ions,sample pretreatment,sensor and the screening of effective components in chinese drugs.The research direction for molecular imprinted technique in future includes understanding the mechanism of molecular imprinting and identification from molecular level,exploring new synthetic method,realizing the transfer of molecular imprinting technique from organic phase to water phase,from nonpolar solvent environment to polar solvent environment and extending its application field.

Abstract:Molecularly imprinted polymers(MIPs) are polymers that can be tailored with affinity and selectivity for a molecule of interest.In addition to improving binding performance of MIPs and finding more efficient synthetic methodologies,thermodynamic aspects,including modeling,analytical and numerical methods used for calculating the adsorption isotherms and the adsorption energy distribution were important research topics in recent years.Progress in the thermodynamics,physical characterization and modeling of molecular imprinting was reviewed according the stage of preparation of the MIPs: the formation of pre-polymerization complex,the construction of polymer network and the binding properties of MIPs.

Abstract:Molecular imprinting technology (MIT) aims to prepare polymers with tailor-made binding sites for the templates in shape, size and functional groups. However, many disadvantages of traditional MIT lead to some unsatisfactory results. Recently, surface molecular imprinting technique (SMIT) has aroused extensive attention and been applied in many fields, such as sensors, separation and purification, catalysis and biomedical areas owing to the desired selectivity, reduction of “embedding” phenomenon, fast mass transfer rate and binding kinetics. With the rapid development of SMIT, it faces a number of challenges, involving pure templates obtained, the higher cost of using noble metals, unclear recognition mechanism, low solubility of the templates in solvents, etc., which limit its practical applications in various aspects. This paper briefly reviews current status of the SMIT, particularly emphasis on the preparation of surface molecularly imprinted polymers (SMIPs, including interactions between templates and monomers, solid matrixes and synthetic strategies) and significant applications on sensors, separation and purification, catalysis and biomedical areas. Furthermore, some still existing challenges and future prospects in this research area are also highlighted.

Abstract:Molecular imprinting is an approach of generating imprinting cavities in polymer structures that are compatible with the target molecules. The cavities have memory for shape and chemical recognition, similar to the recognition mechanism of antigen–antibody in organisms. Their structures are also called biomimetic receptors or synthetic receptors. Owing to the excellent selectivity and unique structural predictability of molecularly imprinted materials (MIMs), practical MIMs have become a rapidly evolving research area providing key factors for understanding separation, recognition, and regenerative properties toward biological small molecules to biomacromolecules, even cell and microorganism. In this review, the characteristics, morphologies, and applicability of currently popular carrier materials for molecular imprinting, especially the fundamental role of hydrogels, porous materials, hierarchical nanoparticles, and 2D materials in the separation and recognition of biological templates are discussed. Moreover, through a series of case studies, emphasis is given on introducing imprinting strategies for biological templates with different molecular scales. In particular, the differences and connections between small molecular imprinting (bulk imprinting, “dummy” template imprinting, etc.), large molecular imprinting (surface imprinting, interfacial imprinting, etc.), and cell imprinting strategies are demonstrated in detail. Finally, future research directions are provided.

Abstract:The standard mechanism of molecular imprinting centers on the formation of a monomer–template complex in the prepolymerization mixture which remains trapped in the polymeric network following polymerization in the presence of a cross-linker. The release of the template leaves behind a binding site with functional groups "frozen" in a conformation complementary to the structure of the template and its analogues. Herein, we discuss the limitations of this model and present an alternative, in which imprinting is a result of dynamic interactions among the template, monomers, oligomers, and growing polymers in a solution. As a model, we have chosen the solid-phase synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) nanoparticles. Evidence is provided from the surface plasmon resonance-based binding analysis of MIP and "protoparticles", literature sources, and theoretical considerations. We conclude that the alternative mechanism may explain some behavioral inconsistency of the conventional model, including the impact of temperature, cross-linking, and computational molecular models, and describe some possibilities for improvement in MIP affinity and selectivity.
