Expression of Cyclin E is Associated with Prognosis of Epithelial Ovarian Cancer

Abstract:Objective To measure the expression of cyclin E in epithelial ovarian cancer tissues and the explore the relationship between the level of cyclin E and the prognosis. Methods Cyclin E was measured by Western blot analysis in tumor tissue from 42 epithelial ovarian cancer patients. Their clinical data was reviewed and its relationship with expression level of cyclin E was analyzed. Results Positive expression of cyclin E was observed in 85.7% of the patients. Expression level of cyclin E was not related to stages, histological types and differentiation. Higher cyclin E expression was associated with a shorter diseasefree survival, compared to lower level of cyclin E[(17.2±2.2)vs(28.2±1.9)months)](P0.01), but without significant difference in overall survival of two groups (P0.05). Conclusions High expression of cyclin E associated with a shorter diseasefree survival, suggests that epithelial ovarian cancer with active proliferation cancer cells may recur early and present poor prognosis. Those patients should be treated actively and followed up closely.
