Abstract:Noble metal nanoparticles (NPs) such as Au and Ag have shown many applications in the field of catalysis, sensing etc. due to their excellent photoelectric properties. But agglomeration and a low recovery rate are big problems for their applications. In this research, a novel Ag NPs/graphene (reduced graphene oxide)-loading loofah sponge (Ag NPs/RGO-LS) was synthesized through a one-step reduction method. Where the RGO is used as a nano-support with the high specific surface area and the high conductivity to prevent the agglomeration of Ag NPs and provide a conductive layer. The natural, green, low-cost and high-yield LS is designed as a macro-support to reduce the loss of Ag NPs during recycling. The as-prepared Ag NPs/RGO-LS is stable, uniform, and exhibits high efficiency and reusability in the catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) with a high rate constant of 1.893 min-1 as well as an average conversion of 98% in 6 min during five cycles. The results have not only paved the way for the wide application of Ag NPs but also provide a new road for the application of other metal NPs.

Abstract:We report a highly efficient and reusable bifunctional nanostructured composite catalyst synthesized by a scalable facile hydrothermal method which enables the precise control of size and morphology of nano particles, wherein Au nanoparticles (NPs) and Fe3O4 particles exhibit excellent dispersing ability on the rGO (reduced graphene oxide) sheet surface (designated as rGO/Fe3O4/Au) to avoid adverse agglomeration between the nano particles and overlapping of the rGO sheets concurrently. The resultant bifunctional composite shows a high performance in the catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) with a conversion of 97% in 5 min and presents good reusability through highly efficient recovery by using external magnetic fields. In particular, there was no significant loss in catalytic activity of the reused catalysts even after being recycled for 8 cycles, displaying attractive potential in industrial applications where separation and recycling are imperative. The rational design provides an approach to synthesize a graphene-based composite with an interesting structure and multi-functional properties as well.
MXene-based gold nanoparticle catalyst with high activity and stability for 4-nitrophenol reduction

Abstract:Catalytic reduction is considered an effective method for converting organic compounds. However, a lack of efficient catalysts has hindered its practical application. Herein, the cationic poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) was used as a stabilizer to synthesize a novel MXene-supported gold nanoparticles composite by electrostatic interaction and self-reduction methods. As a stabilizer bridging transition metal carbides (MXene, Ti3C2Tx) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), the PDDA polymer provided rich binding sites for AuNPs immobilization, resulting in uniform distribution of AuNPs on MXene nanosheet and efficient control over their particle size. The synergistic effects of the composite catalyst improved its catalytic activity towards 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) reduction, and the normalized rate constant (K) was high up to 2.65 × 10−2 s−1. Notably, the composite catalyst also showed high stability due to the protection of PDDA, and the conversion efficiency for 4-NP was high up to 94.85% after five recycles. Our findings presented here not only are potential for catalytic applications, but also provide a foundation for the development of efficient MXene-based catalysts.

Abstract:The layer-by-layer assembly of polyethyleneimine and carbon nanotubes is carried out through the electrostatic interactions on colloidal polystyrene templates. The successful spherical growth of polyethyleneimine/carbon nanotube multilayers could be investigated by SEM. The subsequent in situ preparation and deposition of gold nanoparticles on the core–shell composites could yield novel microsphere complexes, which are characterized by SEM, TEM, EDX and XRD. The functional hierarchical microspheres with gold nanoparticles exhibit good catalytic activity in the reaction of reducing 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol.
Fabrication of Graphene Nanoplatelets/mgal-Layered Double Hydroxide Nanocomposites As Efficient Support for Gold Nanoparticles and Their Catalytic Performance in 4-Nitrophenol Reduction

Abstract:The catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol is of considerable importance to a multitude of applications and industries. The present work introduces a new catalyst (AuNP/GNP/MgAl-LDH) containing gold nanoparticles (AuNP) supported on graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) intercalated in Mg Al layered double hydroxides (MgAl-LDH) for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol using NaBH4 as a reducing agent. The catalyst was characterised by FTIR, XRD, STEM, TEM, and BET specific surface area. The XRD analysis showed the presence of crystalline phases of gold on the supports, while TEM demonstrated that MgAl-LDH provided uniform binding sites for AuNPs and prevented agglomeration. Similar reaction rate constant was determined for the disappearance of 4-nitrophenol and for the appearance of 4-aminophenol. The reaction rate constant was the highest for AuNP/GNP/MgAl-LDH, followed by AuNP/MgAl-LDH and AuNP/GNP. AuNP/GNP/MgAl-LDH was found stable after five repeated cycles.

Abstract:A noble-metal-free reduced graphene oxide composite, copper nanoparticles (Cu NPs) loaded reduced graphene oxide (Cu/RGO), was prepared via a one-step in-situ reduction method. Furthermore, the catalytic activity of the composite for reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) was investigated. The results showed that the composite was a highly efficient, stable and low-cost catalyst for transformation of 4-NP. In the composite, Cu NPs acted as the cocatalyst and the RGO acted as the substance of electron transfer. The catalytic mechanism was also suggested. Graphical Abstract Copper nanoparticles loaded reduced graphene oxide (Cu/RGO) was prepared via a one-step in-situ reduction method. The Cu/RGO composite exhibited high catalytic activity and good recycle stability for treatment and transformation of 4-nitrophenol. Compared with the similar catalysts, the Cu/RGO composite is a cheaper, stable and highly efficient in practical application.

Abstract:In this paper, a stable aqueous dispersion of graphene nanosheets (GNs) has been prepared by chemical reduction of graphene oxide (GO) with hydrazine hydrate in the presence of poly [(2-ethyldimethylammonioethyl methacrylate ethyl sulfate)-co-(1-vinylpyrrolidone)] (PQ11). Taking advantages of the fact that PQ11 is a positively charged polymer exhibiting reducing ability, we further demonstrated the subsequent decoration of GN with gold nanoparticals (AuNPs) by in-situ chemical reduction of HAuCl4. It was found that such nanocomposites exhibit good catalytic activity toward 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) reduction and the GN supports also enhance the catalytic activity via a synergistic effect.

Abstract:High-performance, nonprecious metal catalysts with special morphologies and easy-to-recycle properties are essential for the treatment of environmental pollutants. Herein, CoFe nanoparticle-decorated reduced graphene oxide (RGO) catalysts were designed and successfully fabricated, and the catalyst was then used to reduce 4-nitrophenol into 4-aminophenol. Outstanding catalytic properties with a reduction rate constant of 4.613 min–1 were achieved due to the synergistic properties of the CoFe metal alloy and the high-conductivity RGO components in the catalysts. In addition, the catalyst was conveniently recovered via magnets due to its inherent magnetic properties. Abstract:In this paper, a facile process was developed for anchoring of silver nanoparticles on graphitic carbon nitride sheets (Ag/g-C3N4) with high catalytic activity for reduction of 4-nitrophenol. The morphology and structure of the as-prepared Ag/g-C3N4 composite were investigated by FESEM, TEM, XRD and XPS. The reaction mechanism and the reduction kinetics of 4-nitrophenol under different light irradiation were systematically studied. The results showed that the obtained Ag/g-C3N4 composite exhibited a much higher electro/photo catalytic activity and stability for reduction of 4-nitrophenol. Significantly, due to the synergistic effect and interaction between highly dispersed Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs, ∼7.2 nm) and lamellar g-C3N4, not only transfer of interfacial charge, but also the separation of photoinduced electrons occurred when the reaction was proceeded under light. In addition, the composite exhibited high stability and reusability during the cycling experiments. The results showed that the Ag/g-C3N4 composite is an effective and stable electro/photo catalyst for reduction of 4-nitrophenol.

Abstract:Currently, it is of great significance and a challenge to develop facile synthetic routes to obtain a novel plasmonic heterogeneous catalyst with high activity and long lifetime for the reduction of a refractory organic compound like 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). To this end, a three-dimensional (3D) porous framework named reduced graphene oxide/gold nanoparticle aerogel (rGO/Au NPA) was constructed by individual GO sheets and HAuCl4 under the reduction of trisodium citrate dihydrate (Na(3)Cit) via a one-step hydrothermal method. The abundant Au NPs having a diameter of 7-160 nm can be easily in situ incorporated into graphene sheets to form a 3D hierarchical monolith by the reduction of Na(3)Cit, which was well-disclosed by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Such 3D rGO/Au NPA with interconnected porous structure displays a good thermal stability and large Brunauer-Emmett-Teller specific surface area of 37.8325 m(2) g(-1). More importantly, the fabricated rGO/Au NPA can act as a heterogeneous catalyst, exhibiting an outstanding catalytic activity and good reusability towards the reduction of 4-NP due to the synergetic effect between Au NPs and graphene sheets. Additionally, the mechanism of enhanced catalytic efficiency for the 3D rGO/Au NPA catalyst has also been proposed.
Nitrogen-doped Porous Carbon-Encapsulated Copper Composite for Efficient Reduction of 4-Nitrophenol.

Abstract:Developing low-cost non-precious metals as efficient catalysts for the reduction of toxic 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to useful 4-aminophenol (4-AP) have received increasing attention in recent years. Herein, a novel and efficient Cu-based catalyst Cu/CuxO@CN (carbon doped with nitrogen) was prepared via a facile method from pyrolysis of bi-ligand MOFs material Cu-2(BDC)(2)(BPY) (BDC = p-Phthalic acid, BPY = 4,40'-b ipyridyl) in Ar atmosphere. Characterization results revealed that N doping in carbon matrix favors the development of mesoporous structure, the formation of more defect sites in carbon matrix, better dispersion of Cu/CuxO nano particles, and maintenance of Cu species in metallic Cu state (the active site), all of which contribute to a superior catalytic activity for 4-NP reduction with a pseudo-first-order rate constant as high as 0.126 s(-1) (the molar ratio of NaBH4 to 4-NP is 400), nearly 11 times higher than its counterpart Cu/CuxO@C without N doping (0.011 s(-1)). The activation energy for 4-NP reduction to 4-AP catalyzed by Cu/CuxO@CN was determined as 55.6 kJ mol(-1) (the molar ratio of NaBH4 to 4-NP is 100). In addition, Cu/CuxO@CN showed excellent reusability in successive 6 cycles. The facile synthesis and superior catalytic activity make Cu/CuxO@CN a promising catalyst in industrial applications for many other similar reaction systems. (C) 2021 Elsevier Inc. Abstract:In this paper, we report a facile and green method to synthesize Au nanorods (AuNRs)/graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites. In this approach, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) acted not only as a shape-directing agent but also as an assembling agent. The AuNRs/GO nanocomposites were prepared through electrostatic self-assembly between CTAB-capped positively charged AuNRs and negatively charged GO in an aqueous solution without introducing other assembling agents or surfactants. The catalytic performance of the obtained catalysts is evaluated with TOF, TOF1/2 and kapp values. Due to the increased effectiveness from the charge-mediated assembly, these AuNRs/GO nanocomposites showed high performance in the catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol. The AuNRs/GO ratio was optimized, and the nanocomposite with a mass ratio 1:0.4 showed the best catalytic activity, achieving a kapp value of 1.69 min−1, which was not only 19.7 times better than the AuNRs, but also significantly better than the catalytic performance of Au/graphene and Au/GO composites reported in the literature.

Abstract:A Pt@three‐dimensional graphene (Pt@3DG) composite hydrogel with a unique porous nanostructure was prepared and used as an efficient, recyclable and robust catalyst for the reduction of 4‐nitrophenol to 4‐aminophenol under mild conditions. The influence of graphene architecture on catalytic activities was comparatively investigated by loading the same amount of Pt on reduced graphene oxide. Pt@3DG exhibits a very high catalytic activity owing to the three‐dimensional macroporous framework with high specific surface area, numerous activation sites and efficient transport pathways. Moreover, catalyst separation can be easily achieved by simple filtration, and the catalyst can be reused for at least five runs, maintaining its high catalytic activity. Three-dimensional Cu/C Porous Composite: Facile Fabrication and Efficient Catalytic Reduction of 4-Nitrophenol.

Abstract:Developing a facile method to fabricate new heterogeneous Metal-Organic Framework (MOFs) based catalysts with high catalytic activity and stability has drawn significant attention. Herein, we demonstrate a simple in-situ pyrolysis reduction strategy to fabricate a novel three-dimensional (3D) Cu-based catalyst, which displays an outstanding performance for the decomposition of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). Detailed characterization including SEM, FTIR, XPS, ICP-OES, HRTEM, SAED, XRD and BET confirmed the formation of the Cu/C porous composites (Cu/C-PC). Taking advantage of enormous Cu particles in the composite as well as ultrahigh surface area (196.7 m(2)/g) of carbon support, Cu/C-PC presents prominent catalytic activity for the hydrogenation reduction 4-NP to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) with apparent rate constant (K-app) of 0.0267 s(-1) (the ratio of K-app to the catalyst amount is 119 s(-1) g(-1)), which is dramatically higher than that previous reports. On the contrary, after being washed successively (Cu/C-PC-AW) by FeCl3, HCl aqueous solution and deionized water, the Cu/C porous composite materials exhibit fairly weak catalytic activity. The catalytic performance of Cu/C-PC is better than Cu, Cu2O and CuO nanoparticles as well as other catalysts in previous reports. Abstract:Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have attracted extensive attention in the past few years due to their unique prop-erties and great potential application in catalysis. However, the application of AuNPs remains a significant challenge due to the lack of high efficiency and stability caused by aggregation. Immobilization of AuNPs on appropriate support shows promising results in avoiding aggregation and improving catalytic activity. In this work, reduced graphene oxide/chitosan/gold nanoparticles (rGO/CHS/AuNPs) composites were prepared using chitosan with different molecular weights (MW) as a reducing agent and stabilizer, and characterized by FT-IR, XRD, XPS, SEM, FESEM, EDS, TEM, HRTEM, and TGA. The preparation conditions of rGO/CHS/AuNPs com-posites, including chitosan MW, CHS/GO mass ratio, reaction temperature and time, and HAuCl4 concentration were investigated in detail. The results indicated that reduction activity of chitosan for GO increased with the decrease of chitosan MW. The C/O ratio of rGO reduced by low molecular weight chitosan (LMWC) with viscosity-average molecular weight (Mv) of 21 kDa was 6.34. Small spherical AuNPs were uniformly immobilized on the rGO surface. The particle size of AuNPs increased from 9.29 to 13.03 nm as chitosan MW decreased from 465 to 21 kDa. The rGO/CHS/AuNPs showed good catalytic activity for the reduction of 4-NP in the presence of NaBH4. The catalytic activity of rGO/CHS/AuNPs was closely related to chitosan MW. rGO/CHS/AuNPs syn-thesized by LMWC with Mv of 21 kDa showed the highest kinetic rate constant of 0.2067 min-1. The results of this experimental study could be useful in the development of effective catalysts for the reduction of aromatic nitro compounds.
Preparation of Cu2O/Au Composite Nanomaterials for Effective Reduction of 4‐Nitrophenol

Abstract:The conversion of nitroaromatics to aminobenzene plays an important role in the synthesis of medicines or fine chemicals. In this work, we successfully prepared Cu2O/Au nanocubes with different Au content for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol. With the increase of gold precursor concentration or reaction time, the density of Au nanoparticles (NPs)on Cu2O surface increases, which results in the stronger electron transfer between Au and Cu2O, and thus the better synergistic catalytic performance of Cu2O/Au nanoparticles toward 4-Nitrophenol (4-NP). In this work, we found the Au component in the nanoparticles played an important role in charge redistribution and transfer, as well as the adsorption and reduction of 4-NP. Therefore, the degradation performance of Cu2O/Au composite is better than that of pure Cu2O, and the degradation rate of 4-NP can reach almost 90 % in 10 min, therefore providing a new idea for the rational design of effective nanocatalysts.

Abstract:Heteroatom-containing porous carbon nanospheres with a high surface area were firstly fabricated by pyrolysis of poly(cyclotriphosphazene-co-4,4′-sulfonyldiphenol) (PZS) nanospheres which were fabricated by a facile polycondensation between hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene and 4,4′-sulfonydiphenol. Then the porous carbon nanosphere-supported Pt nanoparticles (Pt NPs@C-PZS) were synthesized by a simple microwave reduction method, during which Pt NPs were highly dispersed on the surface of carbon supports. The surface morphologies and chemical composition of the as-obtained C-PZS and Pt NPs@C-PZS nanocomposites were characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, and Raman spectroscopy. Characterization results showed that the Pt NPs with an average diameter of 2 nm was well anchored onto the surface of C-PZS nanospheres. In addition, the as-prepared Pt NPs@C-PZS nanocomposites exhibited an excellent catalytic capability towards the reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol by excessive sodium borohydride (NaBH4) at room temperature.

Abstract:Composite nanostructure materials are widely used in catalysis. They exhibit several characteristics, such as the unique structural advantage and the synergism among their components, which significantly enhances their catalytic performance. In this work, CoPt nanoparticles and reduced-graphene-oxide-based nanocomposite catalysts (rGO/CoPt, rGO/CoPt/Ag) were prepared by using a facile co-reduction strategy. The crystalline structure, morphology, composition, and optical characteristics of the CoPt nanoparticles, rGO/CoPt nanocomposite, and rGO/CoPt/Ag nanocomposite catalysts were investigated by a set of techniques. The ID/IG value of the rGO/CoPt/Ag nanocomposite is 1.158, higher than that of rGO/CoPt (1.042). The kinetic apparent rate constant, k, of the rGO/CoPt/Ag nanocomposite against 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) reduction is 5.306 min−1, which is higher than that of CoPt (0.495 min−1) and rGO/CoPt (1.283 min−1). The normalized rate constant, knor, of the rGO/CoPt/Ag nanocomposite is 56.76 min−1mg−1, which is higher than some other catalytic materials. The rGO/CoPt/Ag nanocomposite shows a significantly enhanced catalytic performance when compared to CoPt nanoparticles and the rGO/CoPt nanocomposite, which may confirm that the novel rGO/CoPt/Ag nanocomposite is a promising catalyst for the application of catalytic fields.

Effective Reduction of 4-Nitrophenol with Au NPs Loaded Ultrathin Two Dimensional Metal-Organic Framework Nanosheets

Abstract:The catalysis performance of noble metal nanoparticles always suffered from harsh aggregation during reaction hence promising supports that were able to restrict as well disperse the NPs were in great demand. Herein we reported a bottom-up synthesis of ultrathin two dimensional ferrocene based metal-organic framework (FMOF) nanosheets employing ZrCl4 and 1,1'-ferrocene-dicarboxylic acid as metal nodes and organic ligands respectively. Employed as a stable and easy-contacted support, Au NPs were reduced and attached on the surface of FMOF nanosheets with average diameter of ca. 5 nm. The obtained Au/MOF composite was used in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol, and rapid conversion of almost 100% could be achieved in 5 min with a maximum TOF of 10.9 x 10(-4) mol min(-1) m(2). Moreover, after 10 cycles of the reusability test, there was no obvious decline in catalytic performance with conversion of almost 100%, confirming the unprecedented stability of this Au-MOF composite.

Abstract:In this study, reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-supported noble metal (gold, silver, and platinum) nanoparticle catalysts were prepared via the one-pot facile co-reduction technique. Various measurement techniques were used to investigate the structures and properties of the catalysts. The relative intensity ratios of ID/IG in rGO/Au, rGO/Ag, rGO/Pt, and GO were 1.106, 1.078, 1.047, and 0.863, respectively. The results showed the formation of rGO and that noble metal nanoparticles were decorated on rGO. Furthermore, the catalytic activities of the designed nanocomposites were investigated via 4-nitrophenol. The catalysts were used in 4-nitrophenol reduction. The catalytic performance of the catalysts was evaluated using the apparent rate constant k values. The k value of rGO/Au was 0.618 min−1, which was higher than those of rGO/Ag (0.55 min−1) and rGO/Pt (0.038 min−1). The result proved that the rGO/Au catalyst exhibited a higher catalytic performance than the rGO/Ag catalyst and the rGO/Pt catalyst. The results provide a facile method for the synthesis of rGO-supported nanomaterials in catalysis.
