Abstract:This Letter investigates cluster synchronization in the adaptive complex dynamical networks with nonidentical nodes by a local control method and a novel adaptive strategy for the coupling strengths of the networks. In this approach, the coupling strength of each node adjusts adaptively only based on the state information of its neighborhood. By means of the proposed scheme, the sufficient conditions for achieving cluster synchronization are derived analytically by utilizing Lyapunov stability theory. It is demonstrated that the synchronization performance is sensitively affected by the control gain, the inner-coupling matrix and the network topological structure. The numerical simulations are performed to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical results. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Cluster synchronization is investigated for complex networks via linear and adaptive feedback control strategies. It is shown that two different controllers can be designed to achieve the cluster synchronization. Unlike most existing papers, we need not nondelayed and delayed coupling matrices to be symmetric or irreducible. Finally, two examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Abstract:This article investigates the cluster synchronization control for a complex dynamic network with dynamic connection relations, and the process of cluster synchronization is segmented into three dynamic continuous stages. A clustering algorithm is applied to split all the nodes into two different sub‐networks.The Lyapunov stability theory is used to synthesize the adaptive controller and design the inner cluster links.It is shown that the eventual inner topology of each sub‐network is displayed in the given form when the cluster synchronization achieves. In this article, the cluster synchronization control for a complex dynamic network (CDN) with mutually coupled nodes subsystem (NS) and connection relations subsystem is investigated. The process of cluster synchronization is segmented into three dynamic continuous stages: first, the free movement, then the task‐oriented clustering, and finally the cluster synchronization. The control scheme, founded on the clustering nodes of CDN, is proposed, such that the cluster synchronization arises when clustering all the nodes into two different sub‐networks (SNs). This approach originates from the flight motion for a group of autonomous aircrafts. At a certain moment, free flight is interrupted, and all the aircrafts split into two SNs according to the given clustering rules. Then the two controlled SNs are required to achieve cluster synchronization, that is, every SN converges to the same in speed. In order to split all the nodes into two different SNs, a clustering algorithm according to the "central nodes" is proposed. Based on Lyapunov stability theory, by designing the suitable inner cluster links, the adaptive controller of NS for each SN is synthesized to guarantee the stability of the error system. It is shown that the eventual inner topology of each SN is displayed in the pre‐given form when the cluster synchronization achieves. Finally, the merits and effectiveness of the proposed control scheme are verified by a simulation example.

Abstract:In this paper, we study cluster synchronization in networks of coupled non-identical dynamical systems. The vertices in the same cluster have the same dynamics of uncoupled node system but the uncoupled node systems in different clusters are different. We present conditions guaranteeing cluster synchronization and investigate the relation between cluster synchronization and the unweighted graph topology. We indicate that two condition play key roles for cluster synchronization: the common inter-cluster coupling condition and the intra-cluster communication. From the latter one, we interpret the two well-known cluster synchronization schemes: self-organization and driving, by whether the edges of communication paths lie at inter or intra-cluster. By this way, we classify clusters according to whether the set of edges inter- or intra-cluster edges are removable if wanting to keep the communication between pairs of vertices in the same cluster. Also, we propose adaptive feedback algorithms on the weights of the underlying graph, which can synchronize any bi-directed networks satisfying the two conditions above. We also give several numerical examples to illustrate the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this article, a new method, which constructs a coupling scheme with cooperative and competitive weight-couplings, is used to stabilize arbitrarily selected cluster synchronization patterns with several clusters for connected chaotic networks. By the coupling scheme, a sufficient condition about the global stability of the selected cluster synchronization patterns is derived. That is to say, when the sufficient condition is satisfied, arbitrarily selected cluster synchronization patterns in connected chaotic networks can be achieved via an appropriate coupled scheme. The effectiveness of the method is illustrated by an example.

Abstract:In this paper, we focus on the problem of driving a general network to a selected cluster synchronization pattern by means of a pinning control strategy. Sufficient conditions are presented to guarantee the realization of the cluster synchronization pattern for all initial values. We also show the detailed steps on how to construct the coupling matrix and to modify the control strengths. Moreover, the method of adapting the coupling strength is provided to refine the result.

Abstract:International Journal of Modern Physics C, Ahead of Print. Lag synchronization is a special synchronization manner and has wide applications. For community network, in view of the differences among communities, the synchronization lags in different communities may be nonidentical. This paper investigates the cluster lag synchronization in fractional-order community networks with nondelay and delay coupling. The node dynamics in different communities are nonidentical and even have nonidentical dimensions. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory, effective feedback controllers are designed for achieving cluster lag synchronization and several synchronization criteria are derived. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

It is explored how the synchronization depends on the intra coupling matrices, the inter coupling matrices and the corresponding coupling strengths. Abstract:Synchronization control of a time-varying complex dynamical network model is investigated.We assume that the synchronous trajectories,entries of the coupling configuration matrix and inner-coupling matrix of the model are all bounded.When those bounds are a priori known or uncertain,a linear feedback scheme and an adaptive scheme are applied to globally synchronize the network respectively.By constructing the adequate Lyapunov function,we can always let a dynamical network,no matter how it is initialized,achieve asymptotic synchronization under the corresponding control scheme.In particular,the proposed adaptive control scheme shows a high robustness to the uncertainties in topological structure of network,coupling strength between nodes,time delays,etc.Numerical simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:Synchronization of coupled oscillators on networks has been investigated in a wide range of topologies. One of the major challenges is how to control the synchronization process through network structures. In this paper, we study the control of network synchronization by considering the mixing regions of different modules in networks. It is shown that small or weak mixing parts on module networks may hinder the synchronization of the whole network while large and strong mixing parts may accelerate synchronization. Our findings indicate that mesoscopic structures should be of importance to controlling network synchronization.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the study of synchronization problems in uncertain dynamical networks with time-delayed nodes and coupling delays. First, a complex dynamical network model with time-delayed nodes and coupling delays is given. Second, for a complex dynamical network with known or unknown but bounded nonlinear couplings, an adaptive controller is designed, which can ensure that the state of a dynamical network asymptotically synchronizes at the individual node state locally or globally in an arbitrary specified network. Then, the Lyapunov-Krasovskii stability theory is employed to estimate the network coupling parameters. The main results provide sufficient conditions for synchronization under local or global circumstances, respectively. Finally, two typical examples are given, using the M-G system as the nodes of the ring dynamical network and second-order nodes in the dynamical network with time-varying communication delays and switching communication topologies, which illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller design methods.

Abstract:This paper investigates the cluster synchronization for network of linear systems under general topology via pinning control technique. It is shown that an appropriate feedback controller can be designed to achieve the given cluster synchronization pattern if the induced network topology of each cluster has a directed spanning tree and further compared to the couplings among different clusters, the couplings within the each cluster are sufficiently strong. Both the lower bounds for such strengths of couplings and the cluster synchronization rate are specified as well. Abstract:An appropriate dynamic coupling form between nodes and edges’ state can effectively promote the emergence of desired network function (phenomenon), but the existing literatures have not conducted in-depth research on the coupling mechanism. This paper mainly focuses on the coupling auxiliary mechanism of dynamic edges for the emergence of cluster phenomenon of nodes, explores the essential relation between structure and function in complex dynamical networks (CDNs). Firstly, a novel model of CDNs has dynamic systems attached on not only nodes but also edges is proposed from the viewpoint of large-scale system. Secondly, a feedback nodes controller is synthesized associate with the designed linear and adaptive dynamics of edges. Via the appropriate dynamic behaviors of the edges system, the controlled nodes can realize cluster synchronized. Finally, the validity of the proposed approaches is verified by a given numerical example.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the cluster synchronization problem for linearly coupled networks, which can be recurrently connected neural networks, cellular neural networks, Hodgkin-Huxley models, Lorenz chaotic oscillators, etc., by adding some simple intermittent pinning controls. We assume the nodes in the network to be identical and the coupling matrix to be asymmetric. Some sufficient conditions to guarantee global cluster synchronization are presented. Furthermore, a centralized adaptive intermittent control is introduced and theoretical analysis is provided. Then, by applying the adaptive approach on the diagonal submatrices of the asymmetric coupling matrix, we also get the corresponding cluster synchronization result. Finally, numerical simulations are given to verify the theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with applying intermittent pinning controllers to synchronization of interacting clusters of linearly coupled heterogeneous linear systems and nonlinear oscillators under general coupling topology. The cluster synchronization is analyzed via a unified approach to convergence analysis. The key idea of the work is based on the observation that the given cluster synchronization patterns can be realized if the underlying topology of each extended cluster has a directed spanning tree and an algebraic condition is satisfied. Then structural conditions are developed to ensure the related algebraic condition. Specifically, for linear systems, the algebraic condition can be guaranteed if the strength of the intra-cluster couplings are sufficiently strong and meanwhile the work time of the pinning controller in each period is sufficiently long; for nonlinear oscillators, the work time of the pinning controller can be arbitrarily short as long as the intra-cluster coupling strength for each cluster is sufficiently strong. Furthermore, both the lower bounds for such coupling strengths and length of the work time of the pinning controller in each period are explicitly specified.

Abstract:A new adaptive coupling scheme is introduced into chaotic phase synchronization in complex networks. The coupling could adjust adaptively according to the energy difference between two chaotic oscillators. Thus it needs less total and net energy to compensate the energy exchange of chaotic systems with its environment in synchronization. In complex networks, the adaptive coupling could suppress the negative influence of the heterogeneities in parameter and degree distributions. We investigate the scheme in three kinds of network topologies, i.e. coupled two oscillators, global coupled lattice, and scale-free complex network. The adaptive coupling scheme has better performance in synchronization ability compared with four other schemes. Copyright (C) EPLA, 2008.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the cluster synchronization for linearly coupled networks with constant time delay by pinning periodically intermittent controllers. The network topology can be directed. The time delay is assumed to be less than the control width. At first, we give some criteria for cluster synchronization under constant pinning control strategy. Furthermore, by applying the adaptive approach, we design a centralized adaptive algorithm on the intermittent control gain, and also prove its validity rigorously. Finally, numerical simulations are given to demonstrate the correctness of obtained theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper investigates the cluster synchronization for network of linear systems via a generalized pinning control strategy which allows the network of each cluster to take relaxed topological structure. For the case with fixed topology, it is shown that a feasible feedback controller can be designed to achieve the given cluster synchronization pattern if the induced network topology of each cluster has a directed spanning tree and further compared to the couplings among different clusters, the couplings within the each cluster are sufficiently strong. An extra balanced condition is imposed on the network topology of each cluster to allow for the cluster synchronization under arbitrary switching network topologies. Such a balanced condition can be removed via the use of dwell-time technique. For all the cases, the lower bounds for such strengths of couplings within each cluster that secure the synchronization as well as cluster synchronization rate are explicitly specified. Finally, some illustrative examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical findings.

Abstract:In this paper, by proposing a novel adaptive intermittent scheme, we consider the intermittent pinning-control problem for cluster synchronization of directed heterogeneous dynamical networks, i.e., directed networks with nonidentical dynamical nodes. Through constructing a piecewise Lyapunov function and utilizing the analysis technique, some sufficient conditions to guarantee global cluster synchronization are derived. It is noted that the adaptive intermittent strategy developed in this paper is decentralized, which only relies on some local information rather than the global information of the whole network. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.
