Abstract:X-ray grating interferometry is a powerful nondestructive tool in many fields, such as medicine, biology and material science. It works well with conventional X-ray tubes and multiple information, that is the attenuation image, differential phase-contrast (DPC) image and the dark-field image, can be obtained in a single scanning. The latter two images can provide additional and complementary information to the conventional attenuation image. The combination of three kinds of information establishes an innovative framework for the study of weakly absorbing samples. In this paper, we report a quantitative x-ray radiographic method for nondestructively evaluating solid soluble content in fruits with the grating interferometry, which is a combination of the attenuation image and the dark-field image, cancelling out the effect of the thickness to obtain quantitative results just using radiographies. Since the soluble solids content (SSC) will affect both the density and structure of the fruits, quantitative radiography is a useful nondestructive tool to evaluate SSC and it opens a new door for food quality control. Experimental results verify the feasibility of the method.
