Abstract:The structurally stable molecularly imprinted hollow microspheres (MIHM) were prepared by the Pickering emulsion method using ZIF-8 as the stable particle and amoxicillin (AMOX) as the template molecule. MIHM were used to separate amoxicillin from solution. The physicochemical properties and adsorption properties of MIHM were studied by scanning electron microscope, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction and static adsorption experiments. The results show that ZIF-8 nanoparticles can stabilize the Pickering emulsion, and the particles are distributed on the surface of hollow MIHM capsules with a capsule size of about 20-80 mu m. The results of adsorption experiments showed that MIHM had a large adsorption capacity for AMOX, and reached an adsorption capacity of 0.1577 mmol g(-1) in AMOX solution (308 K, pH = 7.0, and 100 mg L-1). MIHM showed high selectivity for AMOX in selective adsorption experiments. After 5 cycles of recycling, the adsorption capacity of materials only decreased by 9.03%. So, it proves that the MIHM have good regenerability.

Abstract:A useful approach was proposed to easily synthesize molecularly imprinted adsorbent for the purification of tylosin from broth. Firstly, by molecular simulation based on density functional theory, methacrylic acid was chosen as a functional monomer by comparing the binding energy. Second, a novel method of polymerization based on precipitation polymerization with added seeds was used in water-mixed solvent for the preparation of water-compatible micron-sized MIP. Its static adsorption capacity for tylosin in aqueous solution was estimated to be 106.5 mg/g with the highest imprinting factor (IF) of 3.6. The selectivity coefficient (α) of tylosin to desmycosin was 3.3. The antibiotic in fermentation broth could be purified by means of molecularly imprinted solid phase extraction (MISPE), which allows MIP to be used for the purification of tylosin from a complex sample.

Development of a novel assay of molecularly imprinted membrane by design-based gaussian pattern for vancomycin determination

Abstract:A molecularly imprinted membrane (MIM) with vancomycin (VCM) as a template and other related different material membranes (organic nylon microporous membranes, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes, polypropylene membranes) as a support respectively were synthesized by surface imprinting for the selective absorption of VCM, which can be used for pretreatment biological samples and rapid determination of VCM. The optimal ratio of template and functional monomer was 1:4, which was simulate by Gaussian, and the results showed that PVDF MIM had the best selectivity of the other three synthesized membranes to be used in the experiment. The maximum load on PVDF MIM was 23.8μg/cm2, and on non-molecularly imprinted membrane was 1.7μg/cm2. Additionally, performance of PVDF MIM, including surface structure, adsorption capacity, selective adsorption capacity, were also examined in this work. VCM in sample was enriched and separated effectively by PVDF MIM, and was quantitatively analyzed significantly by UV. The optimum eluent was 0.1 mol/L KOH aqueous solution in methanol (v/v=1/4), which desorption time was around 20 min. Also, recovery rate, precision, stability, linearity and repeatability for the novel assay were investigated respectively. The results indicated that separation and enrichment of VCM in biological samples by VCM MIM was reliable. The development of the assay, across a range of analytical and separated techniques for which MIM appeared to be the best support, was giving rise to increased interest in the determination of antibiotics as speedy assay for the blood concentration in clinical.
[Preparation and application of tilmicosin-templated magnetic surface molecularly imprinted polymer]

Abstract:A novel magnetic surface molecularly imprinted adsorbent is described. Fe3O4@SiO2, tilmicosin, and methacrylic acid were chosen as the support substrate, template molecule, and functional monomer, respectively. 3-Methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane was chemically bonded onto the surface of Fe3O4@SiO2 via a silanization reaction and used as the crosslinking agent in the subsequent reaction. The obtained magnetic surface molecularly imprinted polymer (MS-MIP) showed high selectivity and high enrichment capacity towards macrolide antibiotics (MACs), as indicated by the 212-, 275-, 675-, and 293-fold enrichment factors for spiramycin, josamycin, tilmicosin, and tylosin tartrate, separately. Because of the marked cavities onto the surface of the MS-MIP, the time required to reach adsorption equilibrium (30 min) was shorter than that for traditional MIP sorbents. Moreover, the adsorbent could be reused at least 6 times. Finally, the MS-MIP was used in combination with high performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection (HPLC-UV) for the extraction and enrichment of four MACs in milk powder samples. The limits of detection (LODs) and limits of quantitation (LOQs) for the four MACs were in the range of 0.58-1.36 μg/kg and 1.92-4.55 μg/kg, respectively. The interday (n=5) and intraday (n=3) recoveries were in the range of 83.2%-123.0% at three spiked levels of 80, 200, and 500 μg/kg, under all the experimental conditions employed, and the relative standard deviations were less than 12.2%.

Abstract:A new molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) targeting to quinolones (Qs) and tetracyclines (TCs) was synthesized using itaconic acid (ITA) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) as a functional monomer and template molecule, respectively. Factors affecting the overall performance of MIP were investigated, and the results showed that Fe3+ ion play a vital role in the formation of MIP with high molecular imprinting effect. Meanwhile, the chelating ability of monomer, species of template molecule, as well as the molar ratio of monomer and template also contribute to the performance of the obtained MIP. Cyclic voltammetry verified that, with the participation of Fe3+ ions, a ternary complex of ITA–Fe3+–CIP could be formed before polymerization. Compared with conventional MIP prepared from commonly used monomer, methacrylic acid (MAA), the new MIP show significantly enhanced molecular imprinting effect and higher capacity for specific adsorption of target compounds as revealed by static and dynamic binding experiments. The MIP was successfully used as solid-phase extraction (SPE) adsorbent for enriching a broad spectrum of antibiotics containing beta-diketone structure from surface water sample. HPLC detection showed that high recovery rate (78.6–113.6%) was found in these spiked antibiotics, whereas recovery rate for the non structurally related drugs, epinephrine (EP) and dopamine (DOPA), was very low (4.7–7.6%) on the MIP cartridges. The results demonstrate that the MIP prepared by the strategy proposed in this work, could specifically target to a series of structurally related antibiotics containing beta-diketone structure.

Abstract:Taking into account the drug resistance of antibiotic, teicoplanin have been banned in the veterinary field. Also, it brings threat to the people's health when they eat these foods containing teicoplanin residue. In addition, the abuse of teicoplanin in humans and food animals also will pose a potential risk to water. Hence, it is essential to purify teicoplanin from food before measuring its quantity. In this study, researchers employed boronate affinity-based controlled oriented surface imprinting technique to produce molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for the isolation of teicoplanin. The 3-fluoro-4-formylphenylboronic acid functionalized silica nanoparticles substrate were first used as supporting materials for immobilizing teicoplanin. Next, the substrate surface was coated with an imprinting coating whose thickness could be controlled, produced through the self-copolymerization of dopamine and m-aminophenylboronic acid (APBA) in water. After the template was removed,3D cavities that matched the template were created in the imprinting layer. The prepared teicoplanin-imprinted silica nanoparticles exhibited several significant satisfactory results, such as good specificity, high binding capacity (46.9 ± 2.3 mg/g), moderate binding constant (5.46 ± 0.18) × 10-5 M-1), fast kinetics (8 min) and low binding pH (pH 5.0) toward teicoplanin. The teicoplanin-imprinted silica nanoparticles could be still reused after seven adsorption-desorption cycles, which indicated high chemical stability. In addition, the recoveries of the proposed method for teicoplanin at three spiked levels in milk and water ranged from 91.8 to 105.6%, and 92.3 to 97.4%, respectively. The teicoplanin-imprinted silica nanoparticles are capable of identifying the target teicoplanin in real samples, being simple, fast, selective and efficient.

PREPARATION OF MOLECULARLY IMPRINTED POLYMERS AND STUDIES ON THEIR PORE-STRUCTURE

Abstract:In the presence of template molecules of N-Boc-L-Tryptophan (Trp) and N-Boc-L-Tyramine (Tyr), two kinds of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) were synthesized by photo induced and thermal induced polymerization, respectively. High pressure liquid chromatography analyses using MIPs as the stationary phase showed that both MIPs could specifically recognize the corresponding imprinted molecules from the racemic mixtures of amino acid derivatives. The separation factors of N-Boc-L-Trp and N-Boc-L-Tyr on the corresponding MIPs were 2.318 and 1.373, respectively. The surface structure observation of MIPs by Scanning Electronic Microscopy showed that both MIPs and blank polymers polymerized by photo and thermal inducement were porous granules with different kinds of pores. From pore structure analyses, some differences between MIPs and blank polymers in pore-structures were found, and the difference in pore-diameter between MIPs and blank polymers by photo-induced polymerization was more obvious than that of the thermal induced polymers. When the imprinted molecules were removed from MIPs by elution, the structures of pores of various sizes in the MIPs were all markedly changed,showing that the imprinted molecules could be adsorbed by MIPs in any kinds of pores. All these results indicated that the pore-structure of MIPs played very important roles in the process of molecular recognition of the imprinted molecules.
Hyperbranched Molecularly Imprinted Photoactive Polymers and Its Detection of Tetracycline Antibiotics

Abstract:Fluorescent and amine-terminated hyperbranched polymers (AT-HP) were prepared by a divergent method using homophthalic acid and cystamine dihydrochloride. We then report a synthetic route for hyperbranched molecularly imprinted polymers (AT-HP/TR-MIPs) via a surface-imprinting method using AT-HP as starting materials, acrylic acid as the functional monomer, tetracycline (TR) as the template molecule, and epichlorohydrin (ECH) as a crosslinking agent. The hyperbranched structure and material compositions were extensively characterized by FT-IR, H-1 NMR, SEM, viscosity analysis, and elemental analysis. The results indicate that AT-HP and AT-HP/TR-MIPs were successfully made with an end-group index of 0.48 and an amino value of 523.24. The limit of detection (LoD) of AT-HP/TR-MIPs for tetracycline molecules was 0.39 mg.L-1, and the blot factor is 6.30. The recognition selectivity and resistance to interference are outstanding, which are much better than other reported MIPs. The selective degradation of AT-HP/TR-MIPs on tetracycline and oxytetracycline was 2.42. This molecularly imprinted hybrid combines the specific recognition and fluorescence sensing advantages in one polymer and provides a platform for MIPs in identifying tetracycline molecules in the environment.
One-Pot Method For Obtaining Hydrophilic Tetracycline-Imprinted Particles Via Precipitation Polymerization In Ethanol

Abstract:In this study, we used a green, one-pot method to synthesize hydrophilic molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) via the precipitation polymerization of hydrophilic monomers in ethanol. The as-prepared materials were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, and water contact angle measurements (27.3 +/- 0.1 degrees). As compared to the imprinting and nonimprinting processes, tetracycline (TC), as a template molecule, had an important effect on the morphology of the MIPs, and the possible mechanism is discussed in detail. We also discuss the effects of the parameters on the binding performance as determined by batch adsorption experiments in pure water. The adsorption capacity increased with increasing concentration and temperature at an optimum pH of 5.0. The Langmuir isotherm fitted the data better, with a maximal concentration of 45.75 mol/g at 318 K. The kinetic properties of the MIPs (within 3.0 h) toward TC were analyzed with pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic equations and the intraparticle diffusion model. The MIPs exhibited specific recognition toward TC, and other competitive antibiotics were used as references. All of the results indicate that the MIPs exhibited a large adsorption capacity and great specific recognition for TC. The high affinity to TC of the MIPs, with its fast and easy fabrication, provides them with potential applications in the selective separation of the TC antibiotics from an aqueous environment. Molecularly imprinted polymers based on multiwalled carbon nanotubes surface for the fabrication and application of oxacillin

Abstract:In this work,a novel strategy for the imprinting of oxacillin molecule on the surface of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) was proposed.In brief,MWNTs were firstly coated with a layer of vinyl group modified silica,followed by a precipitation polymerization with oxacillin as the template,ethylene glycol dime thacrylate (EGDMA) as the crosslinker,ethyl alcohol as solvent and 2,2-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as the initiator,respectively.The performances of MWNTs@SiO2@MIPs were characterized by UV,FT-IR,TG and SEM.The properties involving adsorption dynamics and selective recognition capacity were demonstrated.As a result,MWNTs@SiO2@MIPs show a higher adsorption capacity than MIPs and MWNTs@SiO2@NIPs.The maximum adsorption amount is up to 92μmol/g and the distribution coefficient is 20.36.Furthermore,MWNTs @SiO2@MIPs show a better recognition ability to oxacillin and a higher imprinting efficiency.The products with regeneration can be recycled in a short term.

Abstract:The abuse and residues of antibiotics have a great impact on the environment and organisms, and their determination has become very important. Due to their low contents, varieties and complex matrices, effective recognition, separation and enrichment are usually required prior to determination. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), a kind of highly selective polymer prepared via molecular imprinting technology (MIT), are used widely in the analytical detection of antibiotics, as adsorbents of solid-phase extraction (SPE) and as recognition elements of sensors. Herein, recent advances in MIPs for antibiotic residue analysis are reviewed. Firstly, several new preparation techniques of MIPs for detecting antibiotics are briefly introduced, including surface imprinting, nanoimprinting, living/controlled radical polymerization, and multi-template imprinting, multi-functional monomer imprinting and dummy template imprinting. Secondly, several SPE modes based on MIPs are summarized, namely packed SPE, magnetic SPE, dispersive SPE, matrix solid-phase dispersive extraction, solid-phase microextraction, stir-bar sorptive extraction and pipette-tip SPE. Thirdly, the basic principles of MIP-based sensors and three sensing modes, including electrochemical sensing, optical sensing and mass sensing, are also outlined. Fourthly, the research progress on molecularly imprinted SPEs (MISPEs) and MIP-based electrochemical/optical/mass sensors for the detection of various antibiotic residues in environmental and food samples since 2018 are comprehensively reviewed, including sulfonamides, quinolones, β-lactams and so on. Finally, the preparation and application prospects of MIPs for detecting antibiotics are outlined.

Abstract:A magnetic porous cellulose molecularly imprinted polymer (MPCMIP) based on tetracyclines was prepared with Fe3O4 as the magnetic core and porous cellulose as the carrier. The appearance, characteristic chemical bonds, crystal structure, thermal stability, and magnetism of MPCMIP were systematically characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and vibrating sample magnetometry. The adsorption performance of MPCMIP to tetracycline, demeclocycline, and minocycline were comprehensively investigated by static adsorption, dynamic adsorption, and adsorption experiments under different temperature and pH conditions. MPCMIP performed good adsorption performance and fast adsorption rate for tetracyclines, and adsorption quantity and efficiency of MPCMIP were four times and twice that of traditional molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP), respectively. It can be seen that the introduction of magnetic porous cellulose effectively improved the adsorption performance of the MIP. Moreover, MPCMIP showed good adsorption stability under different temperature. The adsorption properties of MPCMIP under neutral and alkaline conditions were better than those under acidic conditions. Selective experiment was conducted with the amoxicillin and levofloxacin as the coexisting interfering compounds for the three tetracyclines. The results showed that MPCMIP possessed good imprinting effect with the impact factor values for tetracycline, demeclocycline, and minocycline of 1.49, 1.66, and 3.14, respectively. Compared with interfering compounds, MPCMIP showed excellent selectivity to tetracyclines with the selectivity factor up to 36.9. Moreover, MPCMIP exhibited better selectivity towards tetracyclines than traditional MIP according to the higher imprinting and selectivity factors of MPCMIP. The simulation of hydrogen bonding interaction and electrostatic potential analysis determined that MPCMIP mainly adsorbed TCs through the hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions. The results of adsorption/desorption cycling experiments indicated that MPCMIP had good reusability with 95.5% of adsorption performance after four cycles. Finally, MPCMIP combined with high-performance liquid chromatography were triumphantly used to adsorb and detect the tetracycline, demeclocycline, and minocycline in river, beef, and milk samples. Furthermore, the MPCMIP method exhibited higher sensitivity, accuracy, and selectivity than the traditional method.

Abstract:Molecular imprinting of proteins has evolved into an efficient approach for protein recognition and separation. However, maintaining the structural stability of proteins during the preparation process of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) remains challenging. Ionic liquids (ILs), being capable of maintaining the stability of proteins, might enable effective imprinting and accurate recognition of proteins. In this study, lysozyme (Lyz)-imprinted titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles, TiO2@Lyz-MIPs, have been successfully prepared for selective recognition and separation of Lyz. This was achieved by the free radical polymerization of hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) and poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate (PEGDMA) on polydopamine (PDA)-modified TiO2 nanoparticles using an IL, choline dihydrogen phosphate (chol dhp), as the stabilizer of Lyz. It was found that both PDA modification of TiO2 and the use of chol dhp as stabilizer improved the adsorption capacity of TiO2@Lyz-MIPs toward Lyz. When the concentration of HEA was 7 mg mL(-1), the ratio of monomer to crosslinker was 20:1, and the concentration of chol dhp was 12.5 mg mL(-1), the highest imprinting factor of 4.40 was achieved. TiO2@Lyz-MIPs exhibited relatively high adsorption capacity with the maximum adsorption capacity up to 120 mg g(-1), which was more than four times higher than that of the non-imprinted polymers (NIPs) counterpart, TiO2@Lyz-NIPs. The adsorption rate of Lyz by TiO2@Lyz-MIPs was also much higher than that of TiO2@Lyz-NIPs. TiO2@Lyz-MIPs could successfully separate Lyz from diluted egg white, a complex mixture of proteins. Findings from this study indicate that effective recognition cavities toward Lyz were formed on the surface of Lyz-imprinted TiO2 nanoparticles prepared using IL as the template stabilizer. This approach may facilitate the development of MIPs for efficient protein recognition and separation.

Abstract:In this work, molecularly imprinted electrospun chromogenic membrane(MIP-ECM) was synthesized using P-Hydroxybenzene propanoic acid as imitate template molecule and Poly (vinyl alcohol)(PVA) as substrate. The results showed that molecularly imprinted membrane exhibited selectivity and specific adsorption capacity for l-tyrosine. The influences of environmental factors, such as reaction temperature, the amount of ninhydrin and elution time, on chromogenic properties were examined by SEM and optical microscope. Gray value analysis is proceeded by software Image J. Due to the facilitate preparation and intuitive visualization, the proposed method was a promising candidate for selective recognition of bio-generated acid and amino molecules.
Molecularly imprinted polymer gel with superior recognition and adsorption capacity for amphenicol antibiotics in food matrices

Abstract:A molecular-imprinted polymer (MIP) gel with high effective recognition of amphenicol antibiotics was synthesized for the first time based on layered double hydroxide (LDH) as the support and initiator, and functionalized β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) as the functional monomer. The synergistic effect of molecular imprinting recognition and β-CD host-guest affinity enabled MIP gel to exhibit excellent selectivity (imprinted factors: 3.9-9.4) and high adsorption capacity (28.9-75.4 mg g-1) for amphenicol antibiotics. Different adsorption isotherms and kinetics models were followed, suggesting heterogeneous single-layer recognition and chemical adsorption. After 5 cycles of adsorption and desorption, the adsorption capacity of MIP gel retained above 83.6 %, demonstrating favorable reproducibility and stability. Under optimal conditions, the method validation showed a satisfactory limit of detection (5-10 μg L-1), good correlation (r2 > 0.9967), and respectable recovery (82.6-105.3 %). The MIP gel was applied to extract amphenicol antibiotics from food matrices, achieving recoveries in the range of 78.3-104.5 %. Importantly, the recognition mechanism was studied in detail using density functional theory. Therefore, the established method demonstrates high sensitivity and can be applied as a new tactic for detecting amphenicol antibiotics in food matrices.
Surface molecularly imprinted electrospun affinity membranes with multimodal pore structures for efficient separation of proteins

Abstract:Molecular imprinting is an important tool for generating synthetic receptors with specific recognition sites. The resulting artificial receptor has been extensively used in areas that require molecular recognition. Nevertheless, various imprinted materials synthesized using conventional imprinting protocols have low binding capacities and slow binding kinetics because of difficulty in extracting the original templates and high resistance to mass transfer. The combination of molecular imprinting and nanostructured materials is expected to overcome such difficulties. In this work, template molecules were attached onto the electrospun fibers and by using electrospun nanofibers and attached molecules as sacrificial templates, surface molecularly imprinted membranes with bi-, tri- or tetramodal pore structures were fabricated in the absence or presence of SiO2 nanoparticles in the molecular imprinting precursor. As a demonstration, bovine serum albumin (BSA) and hemoglobin from bovine blood (bHb) were chosen as template molecules and imprinted electrospun affinity membranes with multimodal pore structures were successfully fabricated for protein separation. Compared with the membrane with a bi- or trimodal pore structure, the tetramodal membrane, which consisted of tubule channels, imprinted nanocavities on the inner surface of tube wall, gaps between tubes and pores in the tube wall left by SiO2 nanoparticles, exhibited a very favorable recognition property and efficient separation toward the template protein molecules in aqueous medium. In a two-protein system, the tetramodal membrane has also shown a very high specific recognition for the template proteins over the non-template proteins. Dynamic binding tests and reusability tests further revealed that tetramodal porous membranes had excellent selectivity, faster binding kinetics and good regenerability. These results indicate that in conjugation with the surface molecular imprinting technique the use of electrospun fibers as sacrificial templates could be used as an efficient strategy for development of high performance affinity membrane materials.

Abstract:A novel method for the detection of antibiotics is developed by combining surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) with molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) on membrane materials. In this test, eggshell membrane (ESM) is selected as support material, which shows the advantages of low price, easy preparation and more functional groups comparing with other common synthetic membranes. Firstly, Ag nanoparticles with different morphologies are deposited on the surface of ESM by in-situ reduction, and then imprinted polymer is coated by precipitation polymerization to promote high specific sensitivity. The results present that the sensitivity of SERS imprinted membrane is mainly affected by Ag morphology. Under the optimal conditions, it presents a good linear relationship between SERS intensity and spiramycin (SP) concentration, and the coefficient of determination (R2) is 0.9981. It also exhibits the ability of selective detection and retrievability. It can be recycled at least 10 times. This method provides a cheap, stable and sensitive substrate, which broadens the research field of SERS detection of antibiotics.

Abstract:Nano, Ahead of Print. High purity emodin is in great demand with the development of medical treatment. Molecularly imprinted membranes (MIMs) have gained wide attention for selective separation of emodin due to its preferable selectivity. In this work, we describe a simple two-step method for developing emodin-imprinted TiO2@CA (ETMIMs) and emodin-imprinted SiO2@CA (ESMIMs) based on organic–inorganic nanoparticle (SiO2/TiO2) modified cellulose acetate membranes at room temperature. SiO2/TiO2 is used to improve the structural stability and roughness of membranes, and dopamine is used as the functional monomer and crosslinker. Importantly, the as-prepared membranes not only exhibited enhanced rebinding capacity ([math] and [math]) but also possessed superior rebinding selectivity (2.76 and 2.99 for physcion and 2.42 and 3.30 for aloe emodin onto ETMIMs and ESMIMs) as well as permselectivity (7.59 and 6.69 for physcion and 5.94 and 5.78 for aloe emodin onto ETMIMs and ESMIMs). The regeneration ability of ETMIMs and ESMIMs still maintained 90.4% and 89.2% of the original rebinding capacity after 10 cycling steps, respectively. The ETMIMs and ESMIMs obtained in this work show potential applications for selective separation and purification of emodin from analogs.
