Abstract:Three mixed-ligand coordination polymers, [Cu(oda)(2,2'-bipy)](2) (1), Ni-2(oda)(2)(4,4'-bipy)center dot DMF (2), and [{Ni(oda)(H2O)(2)}(2)(mu-4,4'-bipy)]center dot 2H(2)O (3) were synthesized and characterized. Complex 1 features a 1D chain via intermolecular pi-pi interactions. Complex 2 is a novel 3D microporous coordination polymer with 1D polarized channels. Complex 3 forms a 3D network via extensive hydrogen bonding interactions. Thermogravimetric analyses have been studied. The chemical sensing properties have been investigated in situ by quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). Complex 1 has a good sensitivity to toluene, complexes 2 and 3 have exceptionally high selectivity and sensitivity to water over organic solvents.

Abstract:Two coordination polymers(CPs) based on cadmium chlorate and the ligand H(2)PPDA(H(2)PPDA = pyrazin[2,3-f][1,10] phenanthroline-2,3-dicarboxylic acid) were prepared under hydrothermal conditions. The ligand H(2)PPDA decomposed into Dpq(Dpq = dipyrido[3,2-d:2 ',3 '-f]quinoxaline) through in situ reaction. CPs 1 and 2 have the same molecular formula [Cd(Dpq)Cl-2] but different structures. CPs 1 and 2 are two-dimensional supramolecular networks formed by one-dimensional chains through strong pi-pi stacking among aromatic ring ligands. Furthermore, CP 1 shows good fluorescence properties in the solid state at room temperature.

Abstract:Two ternary Cd(II) coordination polymers (CPs), namely, [Cd(TDC)(L)]n (1) and {[Cd(TCPA)(L)]·H2O}n (2) (H2TDC = 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid, H2TCPA = 2,3,5,6-tetrabromoterephthalic acid, L = 1,4-bis(thiabendazole-1-yl)-2-butene) were hydrothermally synthesized and characterized. Both CPs display the 2D 63 layer, which are finally extended into 3D supramolecular network by weak hydrogen bond interactions. 1 and 2 possess excellent chemical stability in a wide pH range of 2–13. Both Cd(II) CPs can serve as efficient luminescent probes for the sensing of acetylacetone (acac), Fe(III) ions and norfloxacin (NOR) in water. The photodegradation ability of two CPs for methyl violet under UV irradiation was investigated in detail.

Supramolecular Isomerism in Cadmium (II) Coordination Polymers from Benzene-1,3,5-tribenzoate (BTB): Syntheses, Structures and Luminescent Properties

Abstract:By tuning the solvent mixture, four CdII-based compounds, [Cd3(BTB)2(DMA)4]·2DMA (1α), [Cd3(BTB)2(DMA)4]·2DMA (1β), [Cd3(BTB)2(DMF)4]·2DMF (1γ), Cd2(BTB)(HCOO)(DMF)3 (2) have been successfully separated from H3BTB ligand and Cd(NO3)2 salts. Structural analyses revealed that compounds 1α, 1β and 1γ are iso-structural and have essentially identical local and two-dimensional structures constructed from trinuclear Cd3(OCO)6 unit. Their structural differences only arise from the different packing fashions, which are novel modes of supramolecular isomerism in coordination polymers. Compound 2 displays 3D two-fold interpenetrated network based on 1D infinite Cd3(μ1,1,3-OCO)2(HCOO) chains containing mixed BTB3- and formate ligands. The fluorescence measurements show that compounds 2 exhibit red-shifts (about 25nm) in the solid state, compared with three iso-structural 1α, 1β and 1γ, and this can be attributed to the cooperative effects of intraligand π-π* transitions and ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT).

Abstract:Four new cadmium(II) coordination polymers (CPs), {[Cd(Hpptpd)(H(2)bptta)]center dot 8H(2)O}(n) (1), {[Cd-2(Hpptpd)(2)(bptta)(H2O)2]center dot 4H(2)O}(n) (2), {[Cd-2(pptpz)(bpta)(H2O)]center dot H2O}(n) (3), and {[Cd(Hpptpz)(bpba)]center dot 2H(2)O}(n) (4) (Hpptpd = 2-(3-(4-(pyridin-4-yl)phenyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-yl)pyridine, Hpptpz = 2-(3-(4-(pyridin-4-yl)phenyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-yl)pyrazine, H(4)bptta = 3,3',5,5'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid, H(3)bpta = 3,4',5-biphenyltricarboxylic acid, H(2)bpba = 3,4'-biphenylbicarboxylic acid), were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. The CPs were structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and further characterized by infrared spectra (IR), elemental analyses, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and thermogravimetric analyses (TGA). Complex 1 exhibits an unusual 2D + 2D -> 2D parallel interpenetrated 63-hcb network. The adjacent 2D networks are interdigitated with each other to form the resulting three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular architecture through the interbilayer pi center dot center dot center dot pi stacking between Hpptpd ligands and nonclassical C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds. Complex 2 is a one-dimensional (1D) molecular ladder along the a direction and further extended via hydrogen bonds into the 3D supramolecular framework. Complex 3 exhibits a novel complicated 3D (3,4,4,5)-connected framework with the Schlafli symbol of (4.6(5))(4.6(7).8(2))(6(3))(6(4).8(2)). Complex 4 manifests an intriguing layered structure with 5-connected cadmium atom as a unique node and can be simplified to an Archimedean (3(3).4(4).5(3)) cem topology with triangular and rectangular circuits. The topology of 4 could be alternately simplified to a 3,4-connected binodal layer with a V2O5-type network. The thermal stabilities and photoluminescence behaviors of them were also discussed.

Abstract:Two novel cadmium(II) coordination polymers [Cd(pyip)(ox)]·H2O (1) and [Cd2(pyip)2(ox)2·(H2O)][Cd(pyip)(ox)]·4(H2O) (2) (pyip=2-(pyridin-3-yl-1H-imidazo [4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline, H2ox=oxalic acid), have been hydrothermal synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 is 1D zigzag chain, in which oxalate anion as bridging ligand is responsible for the formation of the main framework and pyip as chelating ligand grafts on two sides of the zigzag chain. Compound 2 contains two kinds of independent polymers [Cd2(pyip)2(ox)2(H2O)] (A) and [Cd(pyip)(ox)] (B) to form an interdigitated 1D+1D structure, in which polymers A and B are paratactically assembled in an ABCD sequence. The fundamental unit of polymer B in 2 is the same as that in 1. For compounds 1–2, weak interactions, primarily hydrogen bonding and π⋯π stacking interactions, have greatly influence on the supramolecular motifs recognized in the crystal packing. Especially, the oxalate anions as bridging ligand simultaneously adopt multiform coordination modes in two compounds. In addition, 1 and 2 displayed a strong fluorescent emission in the solid state at room temperature.

Abstract:Two new supramolecular compounds, [Cd(H2PIDC)2(H2O)]·H2O (1) and {[Cd(H2PIDC)2(H2O)]·2H2O}n (2) (H3PIDC=2-(pyridine-2-yl)-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid), have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 contains discrete mononuclear structure, and compound 2 consists of one-dimensional left- and right-helix chains. Both are constructed into high-dimensional supramolecular frameworks by strong non-covalent hydrogen bonding and π⋯π stacking interactions. In addition, they were characterized by IR and elemental analysis, and their fluorescence properties in the solid state at room temperature have also been investigated.

Abstract:Two cadmium (l1) coordination polymers, [CdI(TIPA)(CDC)(0.5)](n) (1) and {[Cd(TIPA)(MPDA)]center dot H2O}, (2), (TIPA=tris (4-imidazolylphenyl)amine, H2C DC =1,4-cyclohexanedi carboxylic acid, H(2)MPDA=5-methylisophthalic acid), have been synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analyses and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Structural analyses reveal that complex 1 features a rare 2D -> 2D polyrotaxane network with (3,4) connected (4.5(2)) (4.5(3).7(2)) topology, which is further interlinked into a higher-dimensional supramolecular framework by intermolecular weak interactions, whereas complex 2 has a two-dimensional (3,5)-connected novel network with (4(2).6(7).8)(4(2).6) topology and shows a 2D-3D parallel-parallel polycatenation framework. The results show that the carboxylates exert obvious influence on the resulting architectures. Meanwhile, the solid-state photoluminescence of two complexes at room temperature was also investigated. Abstract:Three new cadmium coordination polymers, [CdBr2(tmdp)2(μ-tmdp)2] n ·n(H2O) (1), [Cd(SCN)2(μ-tmdp)2] n ·2n(PhS) (2) and [Cd(SCN)2(μ-tmdp)2] n ·n(Ph2S2)·n(CH3CN) (3) (tmdp = 4,4′-trimethylenedipyridine), have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The geometry around cadmium is a slightly distorted octahedron with four tmdp and two Br- or SCN- ligands. Complex 1 represents a one-dimensional structure, whereas complexes 2 and 3 are two-dimensional coordination polymers. The rhombic channels of the coordination network of 2 and 3 are occupied by 1D polymeric (PhS) n and diphenyl disulfide (Ph2S2) molecules, respectively. The photoluminescent properties of coordination polymers 1–3 were investigated in solid state at room temperature. The TGA experiments showed that these three complexes were quite thermally stable.

Abstract:Three new coordination polymers, namely, [CuL0.5] (1), [Co(H2L)(H2O)2][H2O] (2), and [(CdCl)0.5Cd0.25(H2L)0.5] (3) were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions from the corresponding CuII, CoII, and CdII salts with a multidentate ligand of 2,2,2,2-[2,3,5,6-tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenebis(methylenenitrilo)]tetraacetic acid (H4L). The complexes were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR, thermogravimetric, and elemental analyses. Complex 1 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbca and has a three-dimensional architecture with infinite two-dimensional networks linked together by weak CuO interactions. Complex 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1) and displays a 2D network. Complex 3 crystallizes in the tetragonal space group P4(2)/ncm and exhibits an infinite 3D architecture that has unusual [Cd2(CO2)4Cl2] dinuclear paddle-wheel units and [Cd(CO2)4] dodecahedron units. The results showed that the coordination arrangement of central metal atoms and the conformation and coordination mode of organic ligands play an important role in determining the structure of the complexes. The luminescence property of complex 3 was studied in the solid state at room temperature.

Abstract:Three cadmium coordination polymers based on new pyridine-carboxylate and imidazole-carboxylate linkers were synthesized hydrothermally from appropriate cadmium(II) salts and the corresponding ester or benzonitrile precursor ligands. While cadmium bis[3-{3-(2-pyridin-4-yl-vinyl)-phenyl}-propenate] (1) adopts a three-dimensional polymeric network structure, both cadmium bis[3-{3-(2-pyridin-4-yl-vinyl)-phenyl}-propenate] (2) and cadmium-[4-(2-imidazolylvinyl)benzoate-acetate (3) adopt two-dimensional framework structures. In all three compounds, the carboxylate groups bridge the adjacent Cd centers to lead to centrosymmetric coordination networks. Abstract:Two new Co(II) and Cu(II) complexes, {[Co(bib)(4,4′-sdc)]}n (1), and {[Cu(bib)(4,4′-sdc)·4H2O]}n (2) (bib=1,4-bis(2-methyl-imidazol-1-yl)butane, 4,4′-sdc=4,4′-stilbenedicarboxylic acid), have been synthesized under similar reaction conditions. These newly synthesized complexes were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, and thermogravimetry. The magnetic susceptibility of complex 1 was also investigated. Complex 1 displays a 3D 8-fold interpenetration network in the [4+4] manner. However, complex 2 reveals a 2D layered architecture constructed by linking the meso-helical chains to the 4,4′-sdc ligands.
Syntheses, Structures, and Characteristics of Three Metal Complexes Constructed Using Hexacarboxylic Acid.

Abstract:In this study, three new 3D coordination polymers (CPs), {[Cd3(L)(H2O)6]·H2O}n (1), {[Cu1.5(L)0.5(bimb)1.5]·5H2O·DMF}n (2), and {[Mn1.5(H3L)(bibp)0.5(H2O)2]·3H2O}n (3) (bimb= 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-yl)benzene, bibp= 1,4-bis((4-imidazol-1-yl)benzyl)piperazine), were prepared under solvothermal or hydrothermal conditions based on a hexadentate ligand (1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triamine hexa-acetic acid (H6L)). Structural elucidations were carried out by IR spectra along with single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, while thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) (dynamic and isothermal) and XRD techniques were used for property evaluations of the polymers. Furthermore, the fluorescence properties and detection of the Fe3+ ions in 1 were tested at room temperature, and the electrochemical behavior of 2 is also stated in this article.

Abstract:Using 4-methylbenzenethiolates of Zn or Cd as precursors and 4,4′-bipyridine (4,4′-bpy) as bridges, we have synthesized three new Zn(II)/Cd(II) coordination polymers, {[Cd(4,4′-bpy)2(NCS)2] · 2(SC6H4CH3-4)2} n (1), {[Zn(4,4′-bpy)(SC6H4CH3-4)2] · DMF} n (2) and {[Zn(4,4′-bpy)(SC6H4CH3-4)2] · H2O · 0.5CH3OH} n (3). Compound 1 is a 2-D sheet-like square polymer in which four 4,4′-bpy ligands and two isothiocyanate ligands complete the octahedral Cd(II) coordination sphere. Compounds 2 and 3 have similar coordination around Zn(II), but have different polymer structures. In 2, Zn(II) centers are linked via a bidentate 4,4′-bipyridine to form 1-D twisted arched chains, which is a new structural type for Zn(II). Compound 3 has 1-D zigzag chains. The 2-D sheets in 1 and 1-D chains in 2 and 3 are assembled via intermolecular C–H ··· π and C–H ··· S interactions into 3-D supramolecular networks. C–H ··· S interactions are a vital factor in constructing the sulfur-containing coordination polymers. Different coordination modes and packing schemes in 1–3 show that the guest molecule has a critical influence on formation of polymers.
Three Cd(II) and Zn(II) Coordination Polymers Based on 2-(4 '-Carboxyphenyl)-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic Acid: Syntheses, Topological Structures, Fluorescent Spectra and DNA Binding

Abstract:Three coordination polymers of cadmium and zinc {[Cd-2(CPhIDC)(bimb)]center dot H2O}(n) (1), {[Cd-2(CPhIDC)(phen)(2)]center dot 3H(2)O}(n) (2), {[Zn-2(CPhIDC)(bpp)]center dot 1.5H(2)O}(n) (3), (H4CPhIDC=2-(4 '-carboxyphenyl)-1H-imidazole-4, 5-dicar-boxylic acid, bimb=1, 4-bis(imidazoL-1-yl)butane, phen=1, 10-phenanthroline, bpp=1, 3-di(pyridin-4-yl)propane) have been synthesized by solvothermal reaction and characterized by IR, EA and PXRD. Single crystal X-ray diffraction shows that the H4CPhIDC ligand presents fully deprotonated motifs of CPhIDC4- in three corresponding polymers. Moreover, the fully deprotonated ligands coordinate in the mu 4 and mu 5 manner to generate 2D and 3D polymers, displaying three different coordination modes. Complexes 1 and 3 exhibit 3D structures with (3, 4, 5)-connected frameworks with (5 center dot 6 center dot 7)(4 center dot 5(2)center dot 6 center dot 7(2))(4 center dot 5(2)center dot 6 center dot 7(4)center dot 8(2)) topology, but the metal ions and auxiliary ligands are different. 2 displays a 2D wave-like fishing nets structure with 4(4)center dot 6(2) topology. Abstract:Three new coordination polymers [Zn(tib)(BPDS)] (1), [Zn(tib) (BPDS) (H2O)]center dot 6H(2)O (2) and [Zn-2(tib) (TPDC-4CH(3))(2)]center dot DMF center dot 10H(2)O (3) (DMF = N, N-dimethylformamide), and a previously reported one [Cd(tib)(2)]center dot 2NO(3)center dot 4DMF (4) were synthesized by hydro/solvothermal reactions of corresponding metal salt with mixed organic ligands of 1, 3, 5-tris(1-imidazolyl)benzene (tib) and 4, 4'-biphenyldisulfonic acid (H2BPDS)/2', 3', 5', 6'-tetramethylterphenyl-4, 4 ''-dicarboxylic acid (H2TPDC-4CH(3)). The complexes were characterized by elemental, thermogravimetric analyses, IR, single crystal and powder X-ray diffractions. 1 and 2 are 2D networks with {4.8(2)} and {6(3)} topologies, which are further assembled into 3D architectures through hydrogen bonding interactions. In 3, both tib and TPDC-4CH(3)(2-) act as bidentate bridging ligands and link Zn(II) centers to form a 3-fold interpenetrating 3D framework, while 4 is a (3, 6)-connected binodal 3D net with the Schlafli symbol of {4.6(2)}(2){4(2).6(10).8(3)}. Design and synthesis of diverse Cd2+/Zn2+/Cu2+ coordination polymers tuned by dicarboxylate and auxiliary 1,4-bis(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)piperazine ligands with luminescence and Hirshfeld surface analyses

Abstract:Four new coordination polymers, including 1D, 2D and 3D structures, were synthesized via a hydrothermal method using Cd2+/Zn2+/Cu2+ metal salts as nodes. These polymers were formed through self-assembly of four different dicarboxylic acid ligands, namely adamantane-1,3-dicarboxylic acid (H2adc), glutaric acid (H2glu), 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid (H2hip) and fumaric acid (H2fum), in conjunction with the auxiliary ligand [1,4-bis(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)piperazine (bpmp). The corresponding formulae are [Cd3(adc)2(bpmp)Cl2(H2O)2]n (1), {[Cd2(glu)2(bpmp)2(H2O)2]·8H2O·2CH3OH}n (2), [Zn(hip)(bpmp)(H2O)]n (3) and [Cu(fum)(bpmp)(H2O)2]n (4). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies revealed that the Cd2+ centers in complex 1 all adopt a six-coordinate mode but two distinct {CdO2N2Cl2} and {CuO5Cl} units. The 3D network of complex 1 can be simplified to a binodal (4.6)-connected underlying net with the point symbol (3·42·5·62)4(32·62·72·88·10). Each Cd2+ cation in complex 2 adopts a seven-coordinate {CdO5N2} center, forming an asymmetric pentagonal bipyramidal coordination. Its stacking structure is formed by the interaction of hydrogen bonds between 2D supramolecular layers, with the adjacent layers exhibiting mirror symmetry. Each Zn2+ ion in complex 3 displays a {ZnO3N} four-coordinate unit. Its stacking structure is formed by one-dimensional [Zn(hip)(bpmp)(H2O)]n chains connected through hydrogen bonds. On the other hand, complex 4 features a Jahn-Teller distorted {CuO4N2} octahedral coordination. Subsequently, the thermal stability of these complexes was investigated. The solid-state fluorescence spectroscopy was employed to analyze complexes 1, 2 and 3. Additionally, a Hirshfeld surface analysis was performed on complex 3.

Abstract:Coordination polymers (CPs) have attracted increasing interest in recent years. In this work, two new CPs, namely poly[[aquabis(2,2′-bipyridine-κ2 N,N′){μ3-5-[(4-carboxylatophenoxy)methyl]benzene-1,3-dicarboxylato-κ4 O 1,O 1′:O 3:O 5}(μ-formato-κ3 O:O,O′)dicadmium(II)] monohydrate], {[Cd2(C16H9O7)(HCO2)(C10H8N2)2(H2O)]·H2O} n (1), and poly[[(2,2′-bipyridine-κ2 N,N′){μ3-5-[(4-carboxylphenoxy)methyl]benzene-1,3-dicarboxylato-κ4 O 1,O 1′:O 3:O 5}manganese(II)] sesquihydrate], {[Mn(C16H10O7)(C10H8N2)]·1.5H2O} n (2), have been prepared using the tricarboxylic acid 5-[(4-carboxyphenoxy)methyl]benzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid and 2,2′-bipyridine under hydrothermal conditions. CP 1 displays a two-dimensional layer structure which is further extended into a three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular structure via intermolecular π–π interactions, while CP 2 shows a different 3D supramolecular structure extended from one-dimensional ladder chains by intermolecular π–π interactions. In addition, the solid-state luminescence spectra of 1 and 2 were studied at room temperature.

Abstract:A series of novel coordination polymers with different structures have been synthesized by reacting Cu(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) salts of aliphatic/aromatic dicarboxylic acids with flexible bisimidazole derivatives. The dicarboxylates can adopt chelating μ2, bridging μ2 and chelating-bridging μ3 coordination modes, or act as uncoordinated counter anions. The coordination polymers exhibit 1D single chain, ladder, 2D sheet and 3D network structures.

Abstract:Two new 3d-3d homo- and heterometallic coordination polymers with mixed organic ligands, namely, [Zn-2(IBC)(BTC)(H2O)]center dot H2O (1) and [CdCo(IBC)(BTC)(H2O)] (2) [HIBC = 3,5-di(1H-imidazol-1-yl)benzoic acid, H3BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid], have been synthesized and fully characterized by X-ray diffraction, I R, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, photoluminescence, and magnetic measurements. Complex I with homonuclear Zn(II) is a rare three-dimensional (3D) (3,6)-connected rtl (rutile) framework with [Zn2O2] and [Zn-2(OCO)(2)] two different kinds of binuclear Zn(II) secondary building units (SBUs). While complex 2 with heteronuclear Cd(II) and Co(II) atoms is a 3D framework based on [Cd2O2] and [Co2O2] SBUs. In 2, the SBUs are extended into an infinite eight-connected rare hex-type (hexagonal-type) network. The binuclear [Co2O2] SBU in 2 shows antiferromagnetic interactions. Both 1 and 2 were constructed by the same ligands, however with completely different structures and topologies, the results revealed that the coordination geometries of the metal centers have a subtle influence on the structure of the complexes.
