Abstract:A highly selective chemosensor (1) bearing three salphen pockets fulfilled the recognition of Cu2+ via obvious color change and significant absorption enhancement upon the introduction of Cu2+. Abstract:A novel red emitting coordination polymer (CP), [Cu(tpp)center dot H2O](2n) (1) [Htpp - 1-(4-tetrazol-5 "-yl) benzyl-3-( pyraziny-l) pyrazole], has been successfully constructed using a nitrogen heterocyclic ring ligand and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared (IR) studies, elemental analysis and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). 1 is a rare 3D supramolecular assembly based on a 1D polymeric chain substructure of {Cu2N4} bridged by the Htpp ligand, which is propagated to form an extended 3D structure with the help of pi-pi stacking and C-H center dot center dot center dot pi hydrogen-bonded packing. Based on the phosphorescence of Cu(I)-CP, 1 is chosen as a probe for sensing different small molecules and metal ions. The luminescence properties of 1 well dispersed in different solvents have been investigated systematically, which demonstrates distinct solvent-dependent luminescence spectra with emission intensities that are significantly quenched by acetone (detection limit: 0.0842 vol%). Besides that, 1 with open Lewis basic nitrogen atoms on the chain surface was exploited for the binding and specific sensing of metal ions via Lewis base interactions, and shows high selectivity and sensitivity (K-sv = 4.6 X 10(4) L mol(-1)) for Fe3+ ions with luminescence quenching. Solid-state 1 displays excellent red lighting properties, which can be comparable with rare earth compounds. Subsequently, 1 blended poly(methyl methacrylate) PMMA film demonstrates comparable intensity with the solid state at concentrations of 1.5%, accompanied by an improvement of the luminescence lifetimes.

Abstract:One coordination polymer [Zn-2(L)(2)(bpe)(2)(H2O)(2)] (1) (L = 4,4'-((1,2-phenylenebis(methylene))bis(oxy)) dibenzoic acid; bpe = (E)-1,2-di(pyridin-4-yl)ethene) was prepared and structurally determined. Compound 1 has a chain structure in which its pair of bpe ligands is arranged in a head-to-tail manner with their C=C bonds being close enough for a [2 + 2] cycloaddition reaction. Upon exposure to UV light, compound 1 undergoes a single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) [2 + 2] photodimerization to generate one 2D coordination polymer [Zn(L)(rctt-tpcb)(0.5)(H2O)] (1a) (rctt (regio cis, trans, trans)-tpcb = tetrakis-(4-pyridyl)cyclobutane). The tpcb ligands in the crystals of 1a show an intriguing in situ thermal isomerisation. The nanospheres of 1 can be obtained by recrystallization in DMSO/alcohol. The nanospheres of 1a can also be readily produced from the corresponding nanospheres of 1 by the photocyclodimerization method. Compared with those of 1a, the nanospheres of 1 display highly selective sensing of Fe3+ ions over mixed metal ions through fluorescence quenching. Moreover, the nanospheres of 1a can rapidly adsorb CR (congo red), MB (methylene blue) or RhB (rhodamine B) over MO (methyl orange) from aqueous solutions. This work offers a new photoinduced post-synthetic method for the synthesis of multifunctional MOFs, which show luminescence sensing of Fe3+ ions and dye adsorption properties.

Abstract:A silver(I) coordination polymer, [Ag(L)(HNTP)](n) (1) (L = 1,4-bis(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazol-1-yl)butane, H2NTP = 2-nitroterephthalic acid) was hydrothermally synthesized and characterized. 1 is a 1D linear chain which is further extended into a 3D supramolecular framework by hydrogen bond interactions. 1 exhibits highly sensitivity for detecting Cu2+ ion. 1 also presents high photocatalytic activities for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO).

Abstract:Three isostructural compounds [M(DPFE)(bPda)(H2O)(2)](n) {M = Co(1), Mn(2), Cd(3)] have been synthesized hydrothermally and structurally characterized, where DPFE = 2,7-di(pyridin-4-y1)-9H-fluorene and H(2)bpda = biphenyl-3,4 '-dicarboxylic acid. Compounds 1-3 show a unique 2D structure where exists two sets of chains toward two different directions. The solid-state UV-vis absorption spectra of 1-2 and the fluorescence spectrum of 3 are discussed in detail. Abstract:A coordination polymer (CP) based nanoprobe is described for colorimetric and fluorometric (dual mode) determination of ferric ion. The method is making use of a nanosized Gd(III)−5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin coordination polymer that was prepared by a single-step hydrothermal procedure. The nanoprobe is monodisperse and has uniform size and good water solubility. It also exhibits strong fluorescence and magnetic resonance response. On exposure to Fe(III), the color of the solution changes from red to brown as the concentration of Fe(III) exceed 5 μM. Similarly, the red fluorescence of the probe (with excitation/emission peaks at 420/675 nm) decreases as concentrations of Fe(III) increase from 0.5 to 100 μM. The limit of detection is 98 nM in the fluorometric mode. The assay was applied to the determination of Fe(III) in fetal bovine serum samples. Abstract:A new luminescent lanthanide metal-organic framework was synthesized under hydrothermal conditions by introducing the tetracarboxylic acid ligand (H(4)bptc) as a chromophore to sensitize the luminescence of the Tb3+ ion. Interestingly, despite the achiral nature of H(4)bptc, the resulting framework exhibited rare chiral helical channels. The luminescence studies revealed that this material showed a highly selective fluorescence quenching response to Fe3+ ions in liquid suspension, which can be conveniently observed by the naked eye under UV light. Thus, this material can be potentially used as a chemosensor for sensing Fe3+ ions and its selective luminescence quenching response can be explained in terms of the competitive absorption mechanism.

Abstract:A 2D anionic Cd-based coordination host was constructed from the linkage of the metal ions and 6-sulfonicotinic acid (SNA, in situ generated from the breaking of disulfide bond in 6,6'-dithiodinicotinic acid) whose interior spaces are occupied with cationic [(CH3)(2)NH2](+) guests. The compound exhibits an interesting ion-exchange behavior for both encapsulation of lanthanide (Ln) ions and organic dye. Through the fixation of Ln(3+) within the host, the designed composite can be endowed with high photoluminescence property. Moreover, the free cations could be readily substituted by methylene blue (MB), with more than 90% of MB (10(-5) M) being selectively absorbed after 12 h, making the title compound to be a great medium for dye adsorption and separation.

Abstract:A novel Cu(II) coordination polymer (compound 1) formulated as [Cu(HL)(bpy)]·H2O (H3L = 4-(2',3'-Dicarboxylphenoxy) benzoic acid, bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) has been successfully prepared via solvothermal methods and characterized by structural analyses. Crystallographic research reveals that compound 1 exhibits a 1D metal-carboxylate chain, which self-assembles into a final 3D supramolecular network through the interchain hydrogen bonds. Further investigation indicates that compound 1 possesses excellent chemical stability. It maintains good stability in various solvents and aqueous solution with pH range of 2-11 for two weeks. The luminescence investigations manifest that compound 1 can be used as a multi-responsive fluorescence sensor for sensing acetylacetone (Hacac), CrO42- and Cr2O72- with high selectivity, sensitivity and excellent anti-interference ability through luminescence quenching. Furthermore, the probable mechanisms of selective detection have been explored in detail.

Abstract:By using a N-containing tetradentate ligand tetra(pyridine-4-yl)benzene-1,4-diamine (TBD) as the coordination linker, a chemically stable metal–organic framework [Cu2I2(TBD)·DMF] n (1) has been successfully synthesized (DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide). Compound 1 features a three-dimensional architecture wherein the [Cu2I2] moieties are formed and further serve as the secondary building units to assist the fabrication of the final network. Solid-state photoluminescence behavior has been investigated on compound 1. Notably, the sensing experiments suggest that Ag+ exhibits a dramatic quenching effect on luminescence emission of 1, implying the great potential of the title compound as an Ag+ sensor. Related verification experiments have been conducted in detail. Moreover, compound 1 presents an effective I2 sorption performance, which could be further regarded as a promising adsorbent for the removal of targeted species.

Abstract:A series of Co(II)–H2L coordination polymers were prepared with different auxiliary ligands, namely {[Co(L)(bibp)]} n 1, {[Co(L) (bpy)(H2O)]2·2H2O} n 2, {[Co(L)(bipd)]} n 3, and {[Co(L)(bbibp)]·H2O} n 4 (H2L = 5-{(anthracene-9-ylmethyl)amino}isophthalic acid, bibp = 4,4′-bis(imidazolyl)biphenyl, bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine, bipd = 3,5-bis(1-imidazoly)pyridine, and bbibp = 4,4′-bis(benzoimidazo-1-yl)biphenyl), by a similar solvothermal method. X-ray diffraction analyses revealed that 1, 3, and 4 exhibit a two-dimensional (2D) structure, which further builds the three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular architecture via the weakly interacting hydrogen bonds of C–H···O, while 2 displayed a one-dimensional (1D) double-chain architecture extended from two 1D zigzag chains by intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions. The sensing experiments revealed that 1 and 2 can serve as either individual- and/or multi-responsive sensors to selectively detect Cr3+, Al3+, and Pb2+ ions through the fluorescence turn-on effect, while 3–4 exhibited fluorescence turn-off sensing behavior for Fe3+ ions. Moreover, 1–4 can effectively detect and recognize Cr2O7 2– and CrO4 2– due to their high selectivity and sensitivity for fluorescence quenching in aqueous solutions, and the sensing mechanism for various ions has been discussed.

Abstract:A new coordination polymer, {[Zn 2 (L) 2 (TDC) 2 ]·H 2 O} n ( 1 ) (L = 1,4-bis(1 H -benzimidazol-2-yl)butane, H 2 TDC = 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid), was hydrothermally synthesized and characterized. 1 displays a 2D sql network, which extends into a 3D supramolecular network through hydrogen bonding. 1 shows thermal stability when the TGA temperature is below 245 °C and excellent pH stability (3–12). 1 is able to selectively detect acetylacetone and Fe 3+ ions, respectively, with recyclability and low detection limits. The luminescence mechanism is analyzed in detail.

Abstract:A double-bent-mixed-ligand supported 2-periodic coordination polymer (CP) {[Zn2(FDA)2(4-abpt)2(H2O)2]}n (1) has been synthesized from the unique combination of a bent furan-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (H2FDA) ligand and a bent 4-amino-3,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazole (4-abpt) coligand. The CP 1 demonstrates readily dispersible two-dimensional (2D) 2-periodic layer structure and considerable chemostability in aqueous media. Luminescence titration experiments indicate that CP 1 can serve as chemosensors for sensitively and selectively detecting Fe3+ cation, CrO42- and Cr2O72- anions in water solution via an environmentally friendly manner. Besides, the luminescent selective quenching mechanism of CP 1 toward Fe3+ cation, CrO42- and Cr2O72- anions is comprehensively investigated in the light of absorption of the excitation energy of the host framework by individual analytes.

Abstract:A new coordination polymer, namely, [Cd2(L)(bimid)(DMF)2]·(DMF) (1), was solvothermally prepared in the presence of the flexible tetrahedral carboxylate ligand tetrakis[(4-carboxyphenyl)oxamethyl]-methane acid (H4L) and benzimidazole (bimid) ligand. The compound possesses 2-fold interpenetrating 3D frameworks, and there are uncoordinated nitrogen atoms of imidazole groups in the framework. Topological analysis reveals that complex 1 is a classical 4-connected diamond (dia) net. Compound 1 exhibited strong blue fluorescence emission at room temperature upon excitation. Fluorescence titration shows the emission intensity of the compound 1 varied upon contacting with different solvents or analytes, exhibiting selective emission quenching responses towards Fe3+ ion and nitroaromatics which suggests that compound 1 is a dual-responsive luminescent sensor material for Fe3+ ion and nitroaromatics.
Luminescent Zinc(II) Coordination Polymers of Bis(pyridin-4-yl)benzothiadiazole and Aromatic Polycarboxylates for Highly Selective Detection of Fe(III) and High-Valent Oxyanions

Abstract:The hydro(solvo)thermal reactions of Zn(NO3)2·6H2O, bis(pyridin-4-yl)benzothiadiazole (BTD-bpy), and benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid (H3btc) or naphthalene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (1,4-H2ndc) yielded the corresponding coordination polymers {[Zn2(Hbtc)2(BTD-bpy)(MeOH)2]·MeOH}n (1) and {[Zn2(1,4-ndc)2(BTD-bpy)]·0.5MeOH·H2O}n (2), respectively. Compound 1 has a two-dimensional (2D) decorated layer structure of an sql net with sufficient free volumes of 19.8%. Compound 2 exhibits a three-dimensional (3D) pillared-layer open framework of a pcu net; two such identical frameworks are mutually interpenetrated with each other to form overall 2-fold interpenetating frameworks with sufficient free volumes of 19.8%. Compounds 1 and 2 both showed blue fluorescence in the solid state and in different solvent suspensions. The luminescence properties of 1 and 2 were exploited as multiresponsive luminescence sensors for the sensitive detection of Cr2O72– and MnO4– with a low detection limit and high selectivity over other anions in DMF suspensions through luminescence quenching. Additionally, the same DMF suspensions were also utilized to selectively recognize trace amounts of Fe3+ among large pools of different metal ions with excellent anti-interference ability, high sensitivity, and low detection limit. Abstract:Two Zn(II) coordination polymers, {[Zn-3(L)(2)(bipy)(2)(H2O)(4)}(n) (1) and {[Zn(HL)(4,4-bibp)}(n) (2), were obtained from Zn(II) nitrate, a tricarboxylate ligand (H3L) and different N-containing ligands with hydrothermal conditions, where H3L=4-((6-carboxynaphthalen-2-yl)oxy)phthalic acid, bipy=4,4-bipyridine, and 4,4-bibp=4,4-di(1H-imidazol-1-yl)-1,1-biphenyl. Single-crystal X-ray analysis reveals that 1 has a 2-D layer framework formed by L3- and bipy and 2 has an infinite 1-D structure with Zn-2 units built by 4,4-bibp ligands. The phase purity, IR spectra, thermal stabilities, and fluorescence properties in the solid state of 1 and 2 were investigated. Moreover, 1 and 2 were chosen as fluorescent probes to sense different metal ions, showing selective response to Fe3+ ion through luminescence quenching. The possible sensing mechanism to Fe3+ ion is also discussed.

Abstract:A fluorescent Zn(II)-based coordination polymer, {[Zn(Hssa)(1,4-bib)(H2O)](H2O)}n (1), has been successfully constructed from 5-sulfosalicylic acid (H3ssa) and 1,4-bis(1H-imidazol-1-yl)benzene (1,4-bib) with zinc acetate by solvothermal conditions, which was further characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, and thermogravimetric analysis. Single crystal X-ray structure analysis reveals that 1 crystallizes in a 1D zigzag chain. Of particular interest is that the alternating 1D zigzag chains have been orderly staggered in a 2D parallel arrangement in the crystal structure. These neighboring chains are further connected through π⋯π stacking interactions and OH⋯O hydrogen bonds, resulting in the formation of a 3D supramolecular structure. Furthermore, the photoluminescent properties for metal cations were studied at room temperature. 1 shows intense fluorescence in the solid state and exhibits a highly sensitive and selectivity for Fe3+ through fluorescence quenching effect in aqueous solutions at room temperature.
Conjugated Polymer Nanoparticles with Aggregation Induced Emission Characteristics for Intracellular Fe3+ Sensing

Abstract:ABSTRACTIn this article, a novel zwitterionic conjugated polyelectrolyte containing tetraphenylethene unit was synthesized via Pd‐catalyzed Sonogashira reaction. The resulting polymer (P2), which exhibited typical aggregation‐induced emission (AIE) properties, was weakly fluorescent in dilute DMSO solution and showed bright fluorescence emissions when aggregated in DMSO/water mixtures or fabricated into conjugated polymer nanoparticles (CPNs). The nanoparticles from P2 could be prepared by reprecipitation method with an average diameter around 23 nm. Notably, the cell‐staining efficiencies of lipid‐P2 nanoparticles could be enhanced with lipid encapsulation and these nanoparticles were endocytosed via caveolae‐mediated and clathrin‐mediated endocytosis pathways. Furthermore, the lipid‐P2 nanoparticles with low cytotoxicity, high photostability and efficient cell staining ability could be employed for in vitro detection of Fe3+ ions in A549 cells. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
