Abstract:We introduce a discretization/approximation scheme for reflected stochastic partial differential equations driven by space-time white noise through systems of reflecting stochastic differential equations. To establish the convergence of the scheme, we study the existence and uniqueness of solutions of Skorohod-type deterministic systems on time-dependent domains. We also need to establish the convergence of an approximation scheme for deterministic parabolic obstacle problems. Both are of independent interest on their own.

Abstract:In this paper, the strong solutions of multidimensional stochastic differential equations with reflecting boundary and with a non-adapted initial random variable are established. The key is to obtain some substitution formula for Stratonovich integrals via a uniform convergence of the corresponding Riemann sums and to prove continuity of functionals of the strong solutions. The results extend the work [8] of Lions and Sznitman with a non-adapted initial random variable.

Abstract:We study numerical methods for solving a system of quasilinear stochastic partial differential equations known as the stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Bloch (LLB) equation on a bounded domain in $\mathbb R^d$ for $d=1,2$. Our main results are estimates of the rate of convergence of the Finite Element Method to the solutions of stochastic LLB. To overcome the lack of regularity of the solution in the case $d=2$, we propose a Finite Element scheme for a regularised version of the equation. We then obtain error estimates of numerical solutions and for the solution of the regularised equation as well as the rate of convergence of this solution to the solution of the stochastic LLB equation. As a consequence, the convergence in probability of the approximate solutions to the solution of the stochastic LLB equation is derived. To the best of our knowledge this is the first result on error estimates for a system of stochastic quasilinear partial differential equations. A stronger result is obtained in the case $d=1$ due to a new regularity result for the LLB equation which allows us to avoid regularisation.

Abstract:We propose an unconditionally convergent linear finite element scheme for the stochastic Landau--Lifshitz--Gilbert (LLG) equation with multi-dimensional noise. By using the Doss-Sussmann technique, we first transform the stochastic LLG equation into a partial differential equation that depends on the solution of the auxiliary equation for the diffusion part. The resulting equation has solutions absolutely continuous with respect to time. We then propose a convergent $\theta$-linear scheme for the numerical solution of the reformulated equation. As a consequence, we are able to show the existence of weak martingale solutions to the stochastic LLG equation.

Abstract:From both microscopic and macroscopic aspects, we study both discrete and random approximations of the global attractor for a nonlocal lattice dynamical system. First, we establish an abstract Taylor expansion and obtain a global attractor for the continuous-time system. Second, for the discrete-time nonlocal lattice equation via the implicit Euler scheme, we prove the existence of numerical attractors for small time-sizes, and establish the upper semicontinuity of the numerical attractors towards the global attractor as the time-size tends to zero, while the abstract Taylor expansion and error estimation play key roles in the proof. Third, for the random nonlocal lattice equation driven by nonlinear colored noise, we show the existence and upper semicontinuity of random attractors towards the global attractor when the noise-size goes to infinity. Fourth, we establish optimal bounds and several continuities of numerical attractors as well as random attractors under the Hausdorff metric.

Abstract:In order to inherit numerically the attractor of the (random) reversible Selkov lattice equation, we propose an implicit Euler scheme (IES) in temporal direction to derive the existence of the numerical attractor. We provide a rigorous demonstration of the upper semi-continuous convergence of the numerical attractor to the global attractor when the step size is small enough. Meanwhile, we provide numerical, random, and global attractors with finite-dimensional approximation, thereby obtaining the existence of truncated attractors as the state space dimension tends to infinity. Based on the establishment of existence of random attractor, it is shown that the truncated random attractor converges upper semi-continuously to the truncated global attractor as the intensity of noise goes to zero.

Abstract:The purpose of this work is to provide an explicit construction of a strong Feller semigroup on the space of probability measures over the real line that additionally maps bounded measurable functions into Lipschitz continuous functions, with a Lipschitz constant that blows up in an integrable manner in small time. Our construction relies on a rearranged version of the stochastic heat equation on the circle driven by a coloured noise. Formally, this stochastic equation writes as a reflected equation in infinite dimension. Under the action of the rearrangement, the solution is forced to live in a space of quantile functions that is isometric to the space of probability measures on the real line. We prove the equation to be solvable by means of an Euler scheme in which we alternate flat dynamics in the space of random variables on the circle with a rearrangement operation that projects back the random variables onto the subset of quantile functions. A first challenge is to prove that this scheme is tight. A second one is to provide a consistent theory for the limiting reflected equation and in particular to interpret in a relevant manner the reflection term. The last step in our work is to establish the aforementioned Lipschitz property of the semigroup by adapting earlier ideas from the Bismut–Elworthy–Li formula.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a kind of second-order curved boundary treatments for the lattice Boltzmann method solving two-dimensional convection–diffusion equations with general nonlinear Robin boundary conditions. The key idea is to derive approximate boundary values or normal derivatives on computational boundaries, with second-order accuracy, by using the prescribed boundary condition. Once the approximate information is known, the second-order bounce-back schemes can be perfectly adopted. Our boundary treatments are validated with a number of numerical examples. The results show the utility of our boundary treatments and very well support our theoretical predications on the second-order accuracy thereof. The idea is quite universal. It can be directly generalized to 3-dimensional problems, multiple-relaxation-time models, and the Navier–Stokes equations.

Abstract:This article is concerned with the stability, ergodicity and mixing of invariant measures of a class of stochastic lattice plate equations with nonlinear damping driven by a family of nonlinear white noise. The polynomial growth drift term has an arbitrary order growth rate, and the diffusion term is a family of locally Lipschitz continuous functions. By modifying and improving several energy estimates of the solutions uniformly for initial data when time is large enough, we prove that the noise intensity union of all invariant measures of the stochastic equation is tight on . Then, we show that the weak limit of every sequence of invariant measures in this union must be an invariant measure of the corresponding limiting equation under the locally Lipschitz assumptions on the drift and diffusion terms. Under some globally Lipschitz conditions on the drift and diffusion terms, we also prove that every invariant measure of the stochastic equation must be ergodic and exponentially mixing in the pointwise and Wasserstein metric sense.

Abstract:It is known that when the diffuse interface thickness $\epsilon$ vanishes, the sharp interface limit of the stochastic reaction-diffusion equation is formally a stochastic geometric flow. To capture and simulate such geometric flow, it is crucial to develop numerical approximations whose error bounds depends on $\frac 1\epsilon$ polynomially. However, due to loss of spectral estimate of the linearized stochastic reaction-diffusion equation, how to get such error bound of numerical approximation has been an open problem.

Abstract:Novel fully discrete schemes are developed to numerically approximate a semilinear stochastic wave equation driven by additive space-time white noise. Spectral Galerkin method is proposed for the spatial discretization, and exponential time integrators involving linear functionals of the noise are introduced for the temporal approximation. The resulting fully discrete schemes are very easy to implement and allow for higher strong convergence rate in time than existing time-stepping schemes such as the Crank-Nicolson-Maruyama scheme and the stochastic trigonometric method. Particularly, it is shown that the new schemes achieve in time an order of $1- \epsilon$ for arbitrarily small $\epsilon >0$, which exceeds the barrier order $\frac{1}{2}$ established by Walsh. Numerical results confirm higher convergence rates and computational efficiency of the new schemes.

Abstract:In this paper we first investigate zero-sum two-player stochastic differential games with reflection, with the help of theory of Reflected Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (RBSDEs). We will establish the dynamic programming principle for the upper and the lower value functions of this kind of stochastic differential games with reflection in a straightforward way. Then the upper and the lower value functions are proved to be the unique viscosity solutions to the associated upper and the lower Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-Isaacs equations with obstacles, respectively. The method differs significantly from those used for control problems with reflection, with new techniques developed of interest on its own. Further, we also prove a new estimate for RBSDEs being sharper than that in the paper of El Karoui, Kapoudjian, Pardoux, Peng and Quenez (1997), which turns out to be very useful because it allows us to estimate the Lp-distance of the solutions of two different RBSDEs by the p-th power of the distance of the initial values of the driving forward equations. We also show that the unique viscosity solution to the approximating Isaacs equation constructed by the penalization method converges to the viscosity solution of the Isaacs equation with obstacle.
