Abstract:•The single Pt atom can be strongly anchored at the Ti defects of TiC(1 0 0) surface.•The support can actively participate in CO oxidation reaction.•CO oxidation is likely to proceed with the initial L–H mechanism and the subsequent E–R mechanism.
