Abstract:To evaluate the predictive value of serum albumin (ALB) for persistent organ failure (POF) in acute pancreatitis (AP). We selected 158 patients with AP in this retrospective study from Jan.1st, 2015 to Dec.31st, 2015. Forty-six patients were diagnosed with POF. All the values of laboratory parameters were measured upon admission to hospital. And 48 h after admission, we examined serum albumin of each patient again, called ‘ALB2’. Uni-and multi-variate logistic regression were used to evaluate the impact of ALB to predict POF. The median age of the whole population was 48 years and 53.8% were male. The admission-time albumin of AP patients with POF was distinctly lower than patients without POF (28.9 (25.3–33.1) g/L vs. 38.5 (34.0–40.1) g/L, p < 0.001). In uni-variate analysis, WBC, PT, GLU, LDH, ALB, ALB2, BUN, Ca, HDL-C and Ranson were significantly associated with POF. After multivariate regression, ALB remained an independent prognostic factor for POF in AP (OR: 0.748, 95%CI: 0.645–0.868; p < 0.05). The AUC for ALB is 0.873 (0.808, 0.938), even larger than that for Ranson, 0.845 (0.634, 0.913). We identified serum albumin predictive to persistent organ failure in acute pancreatitis.

Abstract:While the association between decreased serum albumin (ALB) levels and increased risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) is well established, the risk of death among patients with AKI with low serum ALB levels is unclear. We aimed to evaluate the association between serum ALB levels in patients with AKI and mortality, and help guide their clinical management. The included patients were those diagnosed with AKI and admitted to Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital between January 2018 and December 2020. The clinical endpoint was all-cause mortality rate at 90-days and 1-year. Patients were divided into four groups according to the quartiles (Qs) of ALB measurements at admission. Cumulative survival curves were calculated using Kaplan–Meier analysis, and Cox proportional risk models were used to assess the association between serum ALB levels and 90-day and 1-year all-cause mortality. This study included 740 patients with AKI. Patients with measured ALB values were classified into quartiles: Q1 ≤ 26.0 g/L (n = 188); Q2 = 26.1–30.5 g/L (n = 186); Q3 = 30.6–34.7 g/L (n = 183); Q4 ≥ 34.8 g/L (n = 183). Univariate analysis using Cox regression showed that for every 10 g/L increase in ALB, the 90-day and 1-year mortality decreased by 29

Abstract:This study aimed to assess the significance of serum albumin levels within 24 h of patient admission in correlation with the incidence of outcomes and mortality in patients diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. A retrospective study was conducted over a 5-year period, from January 2018 to December 2023, at the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Oujda, Morocco. The study included 371 patients diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. Hypoalbuminemia (≤ 30 g/L) was observed in 124 patients (33.4% of cases), and these patients had a higher mean age compared to those with normal albumin levels ( P = 0.003). Hypoalbuminemia was significantly associated with persistent Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) (70.8% vs. 29.2%, P = 0.000), a higher BISAP score (66.7% vs. 33.3%, P = 0.000), and a higher CTSI score (51.7% vs. 48.3%, P = 0.000). Hypoalbuminemia was also associated with the presence of pleural effusion ( P = 0.000). The mortality in the sample was 4.6%, and it was significantly associated with hypoalbuminemia (76.5%, P = 0.000). In conclusion, serum albumin levels within 24 h of patient admission appear to be a significant prognostic biomarker in acute pancreatitis, particularly in anticipating persistent organ failure and mortality.

Serum ceruloplasmin level in predicting 30-day outcome of hepatitis B virus-related acute-on-chronic liver failure

Abstract:Objective:To analyze the value of serum ceruloplasmin (CP) levels in predicting the outcome of patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF).Methods:The clinical data of 1 751 patients with HBV-ACLF treated in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from January 2010 to March 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. According to 30-day outcomes, 1 220 survival patients were classified into group A; 465 fatal patients and 46 patients receiving liver transplantation were classified into group B (total 531 cases). Risk factors associated with 30-day survival were estimated using Cox proportional hazards regression. ROC curve analysis was performed to evaluate the predictive value of CP on the 30-day outcome of patients with HBV-ACLF.Results:Multivariate analysis indicated that CP, albumin and alpha fetoprotein were independent protective factors for 30-day survival of HBV-ACLF patients ( P<0.05 or <0.01), while age, white blood cell count, AST, total bilirubin, INR, serum creatinine, HBV DNA, hepatorenal syndrome and hepatic encephalopathy were independent risk factors ( P<0.01). The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of CP was 0.570 (95% CI 0.540-0.599, P<0.01); while AUC of MELD score was 0.783 (95% CI 0.759-0.807, P<0.01) and MELD-Na score was 0.774 (95% CI 0.750-0.798, P<0.01). Compared with MELD score and MELD-Na score, the value of CP in predicting the 30-day prognosis of HBV-ACLF patients was lower ( P<0.01). The cut-off value of CP for predicting 30-day outcome of HBV-ACLF patients was 0.173 g/L, with the sensitivity of 69.4%, and the specificity of 41.6%. According to the cut-off value, the patients were divided into low CP level group (level of CP<0.173 g/L) and high CP level group (level of CP≥0.173 g/L); the 30-day cumulative survival rate of low CP level group was lower than that of high CP level group ( χ2=17.75, P<0.01). Conclusions:Serum CP level can predict the 30-day outcome of HBV-ACLF patients to a certain extent.

Abstract:Serum prealbumin is a clinically relevant indicator of nutritional status and inflammation in patients with acute kidney injury (AKI). This study aimed to determine whether serum prealbumin and its longitudinal changes over a week could improve the prediction of 90-day mortality in AKI patients. This prospective cohort study included 340 adults with AKI between 2014 and 2015. There were 94 (27.6%) patient deaths within 90 days. Serum prealbumin level <10 mg/dL at the time of AKI diagnosis was associated with a 155% increased death risk ratio (adjusted hazard ratio [HR], 2.55; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.18 to 5.49; P = 0.02). Serum prealbumin fall >4 mg/dL was also associated with 90-day mortality in adjusted Cox regression models (HR, 1.79; 95% CI, 1.06 to 3.03; P = 0.03). Compared to serum albumin, mortality-predictability of serum prealbumin ( P = 0.01) and its changes ( P = 0.01) were both increased. Adding prealbumin and its changes on the conventional covariates improved the prediction of progression to 90-day mortality (NRI 0.29, P = 0.04; aIDI 0.08; P = 0.03). In conclusion, serum prealbumin, and its changes were independent predictors of worse prognosis in AKI, and could be potential surrogates to better predict 90-day mortality.

Abstract:Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a critical clinical syndrome characterised by a rapid decrease in renal filtration, with the accumulation of products of metabolism such as creatinine and urea. In recent years, the incidence of AKI has increased not only in critically ill hospitalised patients but also in community patients. Also, the prognosis of AKI is poor and treatment is limited in these populations. The increasing incidence and poor prognosis may be the reasons why more investigators are involved in epidemiological and risk factor analysis of AKI.
[Relationship Between Early Serum Albumin Variation and Prognosis in Patients with Severe Acute Pancreatitis Treated in ICU].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate the relationship between serum albumin variation within 24 hours of ICU admission and prognosis in critically ill patients with sever acute pancreatitis (SAP). METHODS:We retrospectively analyzed all the clinical data of the patients with SAP treated in ICU from Jul. 2005 to Jun. 2010. The patients were divided into two groups, survival group (n = 131) and death group (n = 108). Clinical and laboratory data, outcomes, and serum albumin within 24 hours after admission to ICU of those patients were evaluated respectively, and Logistic regression analysis was performed. RESULTS:Significant differences were existed between two groups (P < 0.01) in average age, the score of acute physiology and chronic health evaluation II (APACHE II), Ranson criteria, the score of sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA), and albumin variation within 24 hours (Serum albumin descent degree and ratio in early stage). However, sex ratio, mean serum albumin concentration within 24 hours, and onset time did not have significant differences (P > 0.05). The area under ROC curve for albumin variation within 24 hours were 0. 728 and 0. 742, the best cut-off values were 4.25 g/L (sensitivity 61.45%, specificity 81.67%) and 13.5% (sensitivity 62.65%, specificity 78.33%), respectively. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that albumin variation within 24 hours was associated with death. CONCLUSION:The albumin variation within 24 hours was the risk factors for poor prognosis of critically ill SAP in early stage.
Serum nutritional markers are predictors of early mortality in hospital-acquired acute kidney injury

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the role of nutritional parameters in prognosis,especially in the early and late mortality of hospital-acquired acute kidney injury (AKI) patients.Methods This study was a prospective cohort study conducted in a hospital comprising 1500 beds in Shanghai, China. One hundred ninety-four patients with hospital-acquired AKI, as determined using the RIFLE staging criteria,were enrolled as subjects after obtaining informed consent.Patients with AKI caused by postrenal obstruction,glomerulonephritis,interstitial nephritis or vasculitis were excluded.Nutritional evaluation,including subjective global assessment (SGA),anthropometric and laboratory examination,was conducted. Other laboratory measurements and clinical data were recorded.The primary outcome was early mortality (≤ 7 days) and late mortality (8-28 days) after enrolling into the study. Results AKI patients at enrollment were characterized by a high prevalence of malnutrition as determined by SGA, anthropometric and laboratory examination.Univariate analysis showed that the SGA,the serum levels of prealbumin,cholesterol and total lymphatic cells, and the Maastricht index were significantly different among early mortality,late mortality and survival groups.The serum prealbumin and cholesterol levels in the early death group were significantly lower than those in the survival and late death groups (P＜0.05).Multivariate analysis revealed that SGA,albumin,prealbumin and cholesterol remained independently and significantly associated with early mortality after adjusting for age,sex,dialysis,ventilation,hemoglobin,platelets,bilirubin,and Glasgow coma score.The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve to predict early mortality for albumin,prealbumin and cholesterol were 0.591,0.736 and 0.603,respectively,with that of prealbumin significantly higher than others (P＜0.05). Conclusion Low levels of serum prealbumin,albumin and cholesterol at enrollment are independtly associated with increased early mortality in hospital-acquired AKI patients.

Albumin Infusion May Decrease the Mortality of Hypoalbuminemia Patients with Severe Acute Pancreatitis: a Retrospective Cohort Study

Abstract:Background At present, the relationship between severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) and albumin infusion is not clear. We aimed to identify the impact of serum albumin on the prognosis of SAP and the association between albumin infusions and mortality for hypoalbuminemia patients. Methods This was a retrospective cohort study that analyzed 1000 patients with SAP who were admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University between January 2010 and December 2021 using data from a prospectively maintained database. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to reveal the relationship between serum albumin within 1 week after admission and poor prognosis of SAP. Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was adopted to evaluate the effect of albumin infusion for hypoalbuminemia patients with SAP. Results The prevalence of hypoalbuminemia (≤ 30 g/L) was 56.9% within 1 week after admission. Multivariate logistic regression identified that age (OR: 1.02; 95% CI: 1.00-1.04; P = 0.012), serum urea (OR: 1.08; 95% CI: 1.04–1.12; P < 0.001), serum calcium (OR: 0.27; 95% CI: 0.14–0.50; P < 0.001), lowest albumin level within 1 week after admission (OR: 0.93; 95% CI: 0.89–0.97; P = 0.002), and APACHE II score ≥ 15 (OR: 1.73; 95% CI: 1.19–2.51; P = 0.004) were independently associated with mortality. The PSM analysis demonstrated that mortality (OR: 0.52, 95% CI: 0.29–0.92, P = 0.023) was less common in albumin-infused than non-albumin-infused hypoalbuminemia patients. In subgroup analyses, doses > 100 g within 1 week after admission for hypoalbuminemia patients with albumin infusions was associated with lower mortality than doses ≤ 100 g (OR: 0.51, 95% CI: 0.28–0.90, P = 0.020). Conclusions Hypoalbuminemia in early-stage SAP is significantly related to poor prognosis. However, albumin infusions could significantly decrease mortality in hypoalbuminemia patients with SAP. Additionally, infusing sufficient albumin within a week after admission may decrease mortality in hypoalbuminemia patients.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the predictive value of serum albumin level in patients with severe sepsis .Methods One hundred and twenty cases of patients with severe sepsis admitted to Qilu Hospital ,Shandong University from April 2014 to October 2014 were prospectively enrolled .The serum albumin levels were measured and the laboratory and clinical data were collected at the onset of severe sepsis .Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE ) Ⅱ score and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score were calculated .Patients were grouped according to the prognosis by day 28 or stratified by albumin level . Prognostic factors were analyzed by multivariable Logistic regression .Results A total of 120 patients were enrolled with mean age of (57 .6 ± 18 .3) years ,among which 75 were male .The mean duration of hospitalization was (20 .1 ± 17 .8) days .The 28‐day mortality was 25 .8% (31/120) .The most common infection sources were respiratory tract (56 .7% ) ,abdominal/pelvis (19 .2% ) and bloodstream (9 .2% ) .Serum albumin level in survival group was significantly higher than that in death group ([32 .1 ± 6 .4] g/L vs [27 .5 ± 5 .5] g/L ,t=3 .562 ,P=0 .001) .Compared with survival group ,the patients in death group had higher APACHE Ⅱ and SOFA scores (22 .0 ± 9 .1 vs 13 .4 ± 7 .2;7 .1 ± 3 .7 vs 4 .3 ± 3 .5 ;t= —5 .372 and —3 .690 ,both P<0 .05) .Along with the decrease of serum albumin level ,the incidence of bloodstream infection ,solid tumor ,septic shock ,acute kidney injury and liver injury significantly increased .Patients with lower albumin level had significantly higher SOFA scores and 28‐day mortality (all P<0 .05) .Multivariable regression analysis showed that albumin level lower than 28 g/L and higher APACHE Ⅱ score were independent risk factors for mortality (OR=4 .156 ,95% CI:1 .198—14 .415 ;OR=1 .121 ,95% CI:1 .039—1 .210;both P<0 .05) .Conclusions A significantly lowered serum albumin level would increase the risk of mortality in patients with severe sepsis .The combination of albumin level and APAHCE Ⅱ score might be beneficial to evaluate the prognosis .
Serum albumin level is associated with mortality and hospital stays: A real-world data analysis

Abstract:Background & aims: The value of serum albumin might be underestimated, especially in cancer patients. We thus aimed to evaluate the association between serum albumin level at hospital admission and clinical outcomes in hospitalized patients with cancer. Methods: This is a retrospective, cross-sectional, and real-world data analysis. Hospitalized adult patients with malignant cancer were recruited from two tertiary hospitals. Serum level of albumin, which was measured within 24 h after hospital admission, was the exposure. Length of hospital stays (LOS) was the primary and all-cause in-hospital mortality was the secondary outcomes. Other information, including age, sex, types of cancer, history of hypertension and diabetes, surgery, blood routine test, liver and renal function, and dietary intake, were also abstracted from medical records. Results: A total number of 5187 adult patients with cancer (2949 were men and 2238 women; average age 61.6 ± 12.4 years and average albumin 40.3 ± 5.2 g/L) were included. The prevalence of hypoalbuminemia was 12.2 % (634/5187). Older patients, patients with liver injury, anemia, and with high level of WBC were positively, while those with overweight and high level of total triglycerides, were negatively associated with hypoalbuminemia. After adjustment of covariates, hypoalbuminemia was significantly associated with longer LOS in the current study. The increase of 5 g/L in serum level of albumin could result in 1.09 days (95%CI: -1.38, -0.80 days) shorter in LOS. The increase of 5 g/L in serum level of albumin was also associated with 45 % lower in risk of mortality (OR = 0.55; 95 % CI: 0.43, 0.7) after fully adjustment. Conclusions: Serum albumin level at admission was associated with both LOS and mortality in patients with malignant cancer.
Predictive Value of Serum Albumin Level for the Prognosis of Severe Sepsis Without Exogenous Human Albumin Administration: A Prospective Cohort Study.

Abstract:Background: The prognostic significance of serum albumin levels in patients with sepsis has previously been reported; however, these studies have not excluded the potential confounding effect of exogenous albumin administration. In this study, we investigate the predictive value of serum albumin for the prognosis of severe sepsis without the interference of exogenous albumin administration. Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted from April to November 2014 in the internal and surgical intensive care units of a tertiary care hospital. During the study period, due to a supply shortage, patients were not treated with human albumin. Serum albumin levels were measured, and laboratory and clinical data were collected at the onset of severe sepsis. Prognostic factors were analyzed using receiver operating characteristic curve and multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression analysis. Survival was assessed by Kaplan-Meier method. Results: One hundred sixteen patients were included in the study. The overall 28-day mortality was 26.7%. The most common infection sources were lower respiratory tract, abdomen/pelvis, and bloodstream. Compared to patients who survived, those who died had lower serum albumin levels and higher Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) scores. Receiver operating characteristic curves demonstrate that albumin level is a strong predictor of 28-day mortality, and the optimal cutoff value maximizing sensitivity and specificity is 29.2 g/L. Through multivariate Cox regression analysis, low serum albumin levels (<29.2 g/L) and APACHE II scores are identified as independent risk factors for mortality. Patients with lower serum albumin levels more often had abdominal/pelvic sources of infection, acute kidney or liver injury, septic shock, and higher APACHE II and SOFA scores. The 28-day survival rate was lower for patients with serum albumin below 29.2 g/L than for patients with serum albumin at or above this level. Conclusion: Having excluded potential confounding effect of exogenous albumin administration, low serum albumin levels are associated with an increased risk of death in patients with severe sepsis.
Association between albumin or prealbumin levels at different stages and prognosis in severe acute pancreatitis: a 5-year retrospective study

Abstract:Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) is a common abdominal disorder contributing to high mortality and open laparotomy rates. The role of exogenous infused albumin in fluid resuscitation or continuous therapy has always been an unanswered question. In early stage after onset, SAP patients with higher serum albumin or prealbumin show a better prognosis. In this study, we tried to disclose the linkage between albumin/prealbumin and SAP prognosis and establish a new goal-directed therapy involving albumin and prealbumin. Pearson’s chi-squared test and the Mann–Whitney U test were used to compare the descriptive data between surviving and non-surviving patients. Three days, 4–7 days, 8–14 days and 15–28 days after SAP onset were defined as stages 1–4. The average concentrations of albumin and prealbumin were calculated, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were drawn to screen out the best cutoff values associated with poor prognostic outcomes, including laparotomy and failure to survive. Kaplan–Meier survival curves and log-rank tests were used to validate the effect of the cut-off values. A total of 199 admitted patients were enrolled in this study. According to the analysis of the ROC curve, the serum albumin value should be raised to 35, 37, 40 and 42 g/L in the 1–4 stage after onset. Serum prealbumin values should be raised to 108, 180, and 181 g/L in stages 2–4 after onset. The validity of the above data was confirmed by Kaplan–Meier survival curves. Serum albumin and prealbumin levels in the early stage of SAP are significantly relevant to prognosis. Albumin should be infused from the fluid resuscitation stage to continuous therapy in order to reach the targets mentioned above. The increase in prealbumin depends on the early initiation of enteral nutrition and this also helps to ameliorate the prognosis.
Dynamic Serum Albumin and Outcome of Peritoneal Dialysis Patients: A Retrospective Study in China

Abstract:Introduction Serum albumin levels at a single time point have been shown to predict mortality in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. However, we believe that the dynamic change in albumin after PD may be more significant. In this study, we investigated the relationship between dynamic serum albumin and the clinical outcome of patients undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). Methods The participants in this study enrolled 586 patients who underwent CAPD at the peritoneal dialysis center of Second Xiangya Hospital in China. We retrospectively reviewed medical records from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2019. Baseline serum albumin (Alb), time-averaged albumin level (TA-ALB) and serum albumin reach rate (SR: defined as the percentage of serum albumin measurements that reached ≥ 35 g/L) were applied as the predictor variables. All-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality were used as the outcome variables. Hazard function of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality in the study participants were examined by using Cox proportional hazard regression models. Results Age (HR = 1.03, 95% CI 1.00–1.05), cardiovascular disease (HR = 1.80, 95% CI 1.07–3.03) and TA-ALB (HR = 0.92, 95% CI 0.85–0.99) were independent risk factors for all-cause mortality in PD patients. Patients with TA-ALB of <33 g/L (HR = 2.33, 95% CI 1.17–4.62) exhibited a higher risk for all-cause mortality than those with TA-ALB ≥ 36 g/L. Stratified SR showed a similar trend. Patients with a <25% SR exhibited a significantly increased risk for all-cause mortality (HR = 2.72, 95% CI, 1.24–5.96) by fully adjusted analysis. However, neither TA-ALB nor SR were associated with the risk of cardiovascular mortality after adjusted analysis. Conclusion This study demonstrated that age, cardiovascular disease, and TA-ALB were independent risk factors for all-cause mortality in PD patients. TA-ALB and SR can better predict the prognosis of PD patients than baseline Alb. Dynamic changes in Alb are more clinically significant than baseline Alb in predicting mortality risk.

Abstract:Purpose. This study investigated the prognostic value of the albumin-to-fibrinogen ratio (AFR) in patients with sepsis as a consequence of infection at various sites. Methods. A total of 300 patients with sepsis caused by various infection sites, who met the diagnostic criteria for sepsis hospitalized in the intensive care unit, were enrolled in this study. The observational endpoint was 28-day mortality. Cox proportional hazard regression analysis was performed to determine the potential prognostic factors for 28-day mortality in these septic patients. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to evaluate and compare the prognostic factors for 28-day mortality. Results. Of 300 participants, 147 died, corresponding to a 28-day mortality of 49% (147/300). Baseline Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE II) score (hazard ratio (HR) 1.18 (95% confidence interval (CI) 1.07–1.30); P < 0.001 ), baseline lactic acid level (HR 1.27 (95% CI 1.08–1.50); P = 0.005 ), the presence of septic shock (HR 21.44 (95% CI 2.51–182.76); P = 0.005 ), and baseline AFR (HR 0.70 (95% CI 0.62–0.80); P < 0.001 ) were independent prognostic factors for 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis according to multivariate Cox analysis. Baseline AFR was an effective predictor of 28-day mortality, with an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.700, and a specificity and sensitivity of 90.8% and 42.1%, respectively. A low baseline AFR level was associated with increased 28-day sepsis-related mortality. The quadruple index, which included the APACHE II score, lactic acid, septic shock, and AFR, showed a more accurate predictive value for septic patients than the APACHE II score, lactic acid, septic shock, and AFR alone, with an AUC of 0.922, and specificity and sensitivity of 86.9% and 83.6%, respectively. Moreover, the triple index, which included the APACHE II score, lactic acid, and septic shock, showed a significantly lower prognostic value for 28-day mortality compared with the ROC curve of the quadruple index and triple index, with an AUC of 0.877 and specificity and sensitivity of 77.8% and 82.3%, respectively. Conclusions. The results of this study demonstrate that AFR is an independent protective factor for predicting 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis due to various infection sites. AFR combined with the APACHE II score, lactic acid, and septic shock showed a higher prognostic value for sepsis prognosis.

Abstract:Objective To observe the association of the serum biochemical and blood routine indexes measured within 72 h after stroke and in-hospital mortality in patients with acute ischemic stroke.Methods One thousand and eighty-nine consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke were retrospectively analyzed.Serum biochemical indexes including albumin,prealbumin and creatinine level,and blood routine indexes including hemoglobin and hematocrit at admission were reviewed. Age,gender,and rehabilitation outcomeCalive or died) were analyzed.Thirty-six patients died in hospital in total.Results Mean age in death group was significantly higher than that in live group (P < 0.01).The mortality rate was significantly higher in patients with lower serum albumin and prealbumin than in patients with higher ones (P < 0.01).Patients died in hospital had significantly lower serum albumin,prealbumin,Hb,Hct level and significantly higher creatinine level than patients survived (P < 0.01).Logistic regression analysis showed that mortality was associated with decreased prealbumin level (OR = 1.276,95% CI:1.196-1.361,P< 0.01) and elevated creatinine level (OR = 0.991,95% CI:0.987-0.995,P< 0.01).Conclusions Relatively low serum prealbumin level in acute ischemic stroke patients increases the risk of in-hospital mortality.
