Abstract:This paper proposes an improved design of LCL-Filters for Three-Level Shunt Active power filters (APF). Available design principles are presented to achieve high compensation bandwidth and low switching frequency current. Then, affecitons of different parameters are taken into consideration of constraints on LCL-Filter design with detail analysis of ripple current. A simple and practical design procedure of LCL-Filter for Three-Level APF is subsequently proposed. The first step is to choose the resonant frequency of LCL-Filter according to the highest order harmonic needed to be compensated. Then it is aim to optimize the parameters of the LCL-Filter based on the design principles and constraints. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. Active Damping of LCL Filters with All-Pass Filters Considering Grid Impedance Variations and Parameter Drifts

Abstract:Active damping is a common way to stabilize the current control of LCL-filtered inverter systems. In this paper, the active damping is realized with digital filters to reshape the open-loop phase response, where no additional sensors are required. A safety region of -180°-phase crossing is first identified within a predefined range of grid impedance changes and LCL parameter variations. Once the phase of the current control loop is reshaped to the safety region, a stable control loop can be ensured. Different digital filters are selected for comparison, which shows that the allpass filter has a unit gain and adjustable phase-lag capability, being a promising solution for phase reshaping. Therefore, the allpass filter is employed to move the -180°-phase crossing into the targeted safety region. By doing so, the all-pass filter-based active damping can be separated from the current controller design, without retuning the PI parameters. Simulations are performed and the results verify that the proposed method can ensure the system stability, while maintaining fast dynamics.
Design of X-band Hi-Lo Microstrip Low-pass Filters

Abstract:Hi-Lo microstrip low-pass filter’s structure is simple and it is easy to processing.The conductor strip of the filter can be directly printed on the thin medium.So this type of filter is often used in the system as a frequency selective component to reject interference signal and harmonic signal.In this paper,according to the basic principle of transmission line,a X-band low-pass filter is designed to filter the secondary harmonic signal of 11GHz local oscillator signal.The filter is designed and simulated by electromagnetic simulation software HFSS.After optimization,the band rejection of 22GHz frequency can reach-38dB and the VSWR of 11GHz frequency can reach 1.13.The size of the final filter is 14mm 6mm 0.508mm.We made a real object and tested its properties,the test result can almost satisfy the requirement of the system.

Abstract:Damping is required in grid-connected LCL-filtered inverters. Due to additional power losses caused by passive elements, active damping is more favorable. As an active damping solution, the single-loop filter-based damping, being directly plugged into the current controller, features no extra sensors and simplicity, and thus it has drawn much attention in LCL-filtered inverters. However, the existing filter-based damping is not very satisfactory because of limited frequency characteristics. For example, the notch filter designed for a low LCL-resonance frequency does not function well for a high resonance frequency owing to its overmuch phase lead, which means that one filter is not sufficient to cover all possible LCL resonance frequencies caused by parameter drifts, indicating unnecessary repetitive designs and poor universality. Thus, this paper proposes a notch-like digital filter-based single-loop active damping method, which covers a wide range of frequencies up to the Nyquist frequency. That is, the proposed is robust against LCL filter parameter drifts and grid impedance variations. Simulation results verify the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper is focused on a dual-loop current control method (grid current loop and fundamental current loop) for digitally controlled LCL-type shunt active power filters (APFs). Normally, a proportional-resonant (PR) unit is used as the fundamental current controller, where the proportional part of PR unit actually serves as the proportional feedback of inverter-side current and provides a certain degree of damping for LCL resonance. However, its valid damping region is only up to one-sixth of the sampling frequency (fs/6), which leads to less robustness to the grid impedance. To address this issue, a delay-compensation control link is proposed in this paper to replace the proportional part of the PR fundamental current controller and widen the effective damping region. As a result, the system robustness is improved without adding extra sensors or introducing an extra active damping loop. Theoretical analysis proves that it can obtain a wider damping region of (0, fs/4). Moreover, a systematic controller parameter design criterion is studied. In particular, a numerical optimization algorithm is developed to optimize damping property, and a design method based on root locus plot and Bode diagram is presented to enhance harmonic compensation accuracy. Finally, experimental results implemented on a 30 kVA APF prototype have validated the feasibility of the proposed current controller and parameter design criterion.

Abstract:Active damping is a common way to stabilize the current control of LCL-filtered converters. In this paper, the stable region of -180 degrees; phase crossing is first identified within a predefined range of grid impedance and LCL parameter variations. Once the phase of the current control loop is in the identified region, a stabilization control can be attained. Subsequently, digital filters can be adopted to achieve active damping by reshaping the open-loop phase. Various digital filters are selected and benchmarked in this paper. It is confirmed that the all-pass filter has a unity gain and adjustable lagging phase before the Nyquist frequency, thereby being a promising solution to the phase reshaping. Therefore, the all-pass filter is employed to move the phase of the open-loop control (i.e., -180 degrees phase crossing) into the targeted region for active damping. Notably, the current controller and the all-pass filter-based active damping can be separately designed, indicating the easy implementation of the active damping. Experimental tests demonstrate that the proposed method can ensure the system stability over a wide range of parameter variations (e.g., grid impedance changes and LCL-filter parameter drifts) while maintaining fast dynamics with the grid-side current control.

Abstract:In active power filter (APF) application, LCL-filters are prevalently served as output filters due to high slew rate of compensation current and sufficient attenuation ratio for switching frequency with small LC parameters. In order to realize the stable control of LCL filters, appropriate damping is required. Both the classical PI control method with a damping resistor and active damping without the power loss on damping resistor are feasible, while the former method will induce unacceptable power loss under high power condition and the latter one may increase the complexity of control strategy as well as weaken system's robustness. In this paper, a double-loop control strategy for a 380V/264 kVA system with an inner current loop and an external repetitive control loop is proposed. Systematic design approaches of the double-loop control scheme have been given in details. The simulation experiment results indicate that it obtains low power loss reduced greatly from 1.8 kW (0.68%) to 0.8 kW (0.3%) and high compensation-precision with the proposed control scheme.

Abstract:Abstract With the rapid development of electronic technology, the filter circuit has been widely used in various occasions. Therefore, based on the study of various analog filter circuit principles, this paper users the Multisim simulation platform to design the corresponding low-pass and band-pass filters. In order to verify the performance of the filter circuit, the normal signal, noise signal and filter output signal are respectively observed by oscilloscope after noise is introduced, and then the performance is analyzed according to the waveform and parameters. The experimental results show that all the designed filters can achieve good filtering effect.
Comparison of Active and Passive Damping Methods for Application in High Power Active Power Filter with LCL-filter

Abstract:LCL-type filter possessing sufficient attenuation ratio for switching ripple with small LC parameters is appropriate to be used as output filter to get high slew rate of compensation current. However, LCL-filter, as a three order resonant circuit itself, is difficult to be stable. This paper compares active and passive methods for LCL-filter resonance damping; assesses their suitability for the high power active power filter application and presents their benefits and drawbacks. The results presented show that both methods compensate harmonics effectively and attenuate switching ripple sufficiently. However, there are still some differences both in the filtering performance and the power losses in the high power application. The active methods require more sensors and increase algorithm complexity, while additional damping resistors are needed in the passive methods and result in large losses. Simulation validates the feasibility of the method proposed by this paper.

Abstract:Three-phase shunt Active Power Filters (APFs) are connected to the grid through inductance or LCL filter. Comparing to single L filter, LCL filter is more effective, e.g. better switching harmonics suppression and lower output impedance, but such solution causes stability problems. In order to assure stable operation either a damping resistor or active damping algorithm has to be used. However, extra resistor causes additional losses and active damping algorithm usually needs extra sensors. This paper proposed a novel active method to stabilize the system by inserting a damp function into the control loop to suppress the resonance. Moreover, to achieve high quality grid current waveform both at low and high frequency, repetitive control algorithm with differential compensator is adopted to compensate control loop phase lag caused by control plant and digital implementation. The stability of the scheme with respect to the grid impedance variation and sampling frequency selecting are also analyzed. Finally, experimental results of a 16.5 kVA prototype confirm the validity of the theoretical expectation.

Abstract:The different parameters define the characteristics of filter for various applications like: Biomedical applications, Defense communication systems, Wireless Communication systems etc. The mostly measured parameters for filter designing are frequency range, cut off frequency, gain, power consumption, and noise. In this paper, our work focuses on frequency range measurement at cut off frequency of Hz of second order low pass filter with designed using CMOS technology for IC fabrication. The proposed circuit gives the high frequency range at low frequency (100Hz – 10MHz) with 1mV 50Hz low power supply using complementary compound pair on the value of R=1K and C=10pH. This second order active low pass filter provides high amplification at the output with 4.861V. It is implemented and simulated on 180nm Cadence tool in terms of wide frequency range or band at cut off frequency of Hz to MHz.

Abstract:Shunt Active Power Filters (APFs) are powerful in harmonic elimination and reactive power compensation in distribution network. The APF prototype discussed in this paper is based on conventional three-leg converter with an improved LCL filter in the ac side, which consists of a LC resonant branch and is tuned at switching frequency. It is helpful to suppress switching ripple injected to the grid and reduce the power loss in the damping resistor. What's more, a compound current control strategy with an outer loop of repetitive control and an inner one of Proportional-Integral (PI) control is adopted. The inner loop is used to guarantee the dynamic response, and the outer one is designed to redeem the inherent phase lag of inner loop. Consequently, excellent harmonic current tracking performance both in steady-state and dynamical-state are achieved. Experimental results of the laboratory prototype prove its feasibility and efficiency.

Abstract:Active power factor correction converters are often introduced as the front stage of power electronic equipment to improve the power factor and eliminate higher harmonics. A Boost or Buck-Boost converter operating in discontinuous current mode is always adopted to achieve high power factor correction. In addition, the input current contains a large amount of higher harmonics, and a low-pass input filter is commonly adopted to filter it out. In this paper, a single-stage high-frequency AC/AC converter is taken as an example to demonstrate the design method of a passive low-pass filter. Firstly, the input side of the grid needs to meet the power factor and harmonic requirements. The preset parameters are set to a range to characterize the performance of the LC filter. The quantitative design method of input filter is proposed and summarized. Moreover, the sensitivity of the filter parameters is analyzed, providing a direction in practical applications. Preset parameters are all proved to conform to the preset range through PSIM simulation. Finally, a 130-W prototype is established to verify the correction of proposed design method. The power factor is around 0.935 and harmonic content in the input current is about 26.4%. All requirements can be satisfied.

Abstract:A dual-loop current control is discussed for LCL-type shunt active power filters (APFs), where inverter-side current feedback and point of common coupling (PCC) voltage feedforward both provide active damping (AD) effects for LCL resonance. However, two ADs are equivalently applied to different elements of LCL filter with narrow damping boundaries, which causes less robustness against grid impedance variation. Hence, this paper has presented a comprehensive approach to strengthen the system robustness against grid impedance variation. On the basis of phase compensated resonant unit, a delay-compensation scheme is firstly proposed to extend the damping boundary of inverter-side current feedback up to almost Nyquist frequency (f(s)/2). Theory analysis considering PCC voltage feedforward indicates that the control system can keep robust to grid impedance when the initial LCL resonance frequency falls between f(s)/3 and the extended damping boundary. Moreover, a typical weighted proportional-resonant feedforward scheme is suggested to prevent high-frequency resonant units from inducing system instability under a large grid impedance. We finally validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach through experiments.

Abstract:Background: CCCII implementation of the classic seventh-order Chebyshev filter is relatively rare. This work is a supplement to it. Methods: By a floating negative simulating resistance using single the second generation current-controlled conveyor (CCCII), we design a new current buffer to employ one CCCII and one multiple output CCCII (MOCCCII), and a new grounded MOCCCII-employed the frequency-dependent negative resistance (FDNR). Moreover, by employing a classic seventh-order Chebyshev passive filter as a prototype and utilizing adjoint network theory, a seventh-order Chebyshev active low-pass filter is realized through applying the Bruton transform, frequency and impedance scaling technique, FDNR, and component replacement method. The filter employs only grounded capacitors and nine CCCIIs, and its the performance can be controlled through adjusting bias currents of the CCCIIs. Results: The designed circuit is simulated with Multisim, which shows that the filter is correct and effective. Conclusion: A seventh-order Chebyshev active low-pass filter with Amax=0.5 dB and fc=10 kHz, is realized.

Abstract:In this paper, an improved LTCC multi-layer band-pass filter which based on network synthesis of lumped parameter element, is introduced. In order to set up the finally model of multi-layer filter, ADS is used to get the initial value of components and HFSS is serviced to model and optimize the filter. The simulate results from ADS and HFSS also reach the expected goals: the pass-band loss below 0.8dB in 2400MHz-2500MHz; the return loss is greater than 20dB; the size of filter is 5.8mm×4mm×0.8mm.
