Abstract:Calcium phosphate coatings were electrochemically deposited on micro-arc oxidized Ti6Al4V alloy at three different temperatures. The results indicated that the deposited temperature had a strong influence on the phase composition, morphology and thickness of the coatings. Different coatings have distinctly different corrosion behavior in a simulated body fluid, which is investigated by the immersion experiments in vitro. The coatings have the capacity to induce hydroxyapatite formation on its surface, and improve the corrosion resistance of the Ti6Al4V in the simulated body fluid. The coating obtained at 47 degrees C contains both dicalcium phosphate dihydrate and hydroxyapatite, and exhibits the best corrosion resistance and superior protective performance. These improvements can be attributed to the difference in composition and thickness of the deposited coatings. (C) 2017 The Electrochemical Society. All rights reserved.
