Abstract:Fusion energy is a promising source of clean energy, which could solve energy shortages and environmental pollution. Research into controlled fusion energy has been ongoing for over half a century. China has created a clear roadmap for magnetic confinement fusion development, where superconducting tokamaks will be used in commercial fusion reactors. The Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) is the world's first fully superconducting tokamak with upper and lower divertors, which aims at long-pulse, steady-state, H-mode operation, and 101-s H-mode discharge had been achieved. In 2007, China joined the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) and became one of its seven members. Thirteen procurement packages are undertaken by China, covering superconducting magnets, power supplies, plasma-facing components (PFCs), diagnostics, etc. To bridge the gap between the ITER and fusion demonstration power plants (DEMOs), China is planning to build the Chinese Fusion Engineering Testing Reactor (CFETR) to demonstrate related technologies and physics models. The engineering design of the CFETR was completed in 2020, and Comprehensive Research Facilities for Fusion Technology (CRAFT) are being constructed to explore the key technologies used in the CFETR.

Abstract:A variety of new materials have been developed during the past two decades in China to support the design and construction of key components for next step fusion devices. Most recently, a domestic project, promoted by the engineering design of China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR), has been launched to preliminarily investigate the performance of advanced fusion materials after neutron irradiation. The goal of this paper is to introduce the preparation for the coming neutron irradiation campaign. The development status and acceptance of some outstanding fusion materials are briefly reviewed with the main description focusing on some high-performance 9Cr-ODS steels, Cu–0.3Al 2 O 3 alloys, W-K and W-ZrC alloys for blanket/divertor components. The principles for screening suitable materials out from several candidates are suggested, which consider low activation, sufficient production scale, homogeneous microstructures, safety margin and repeatability of basic properties as the basic requirements. As a recommended approach for neutron irradiation tests, the small sample testing technology (SSTT) is highlighted in this paper. Further development of SSTT using inverse finite element method (FEM) and energy equivalent principle is performed for new designs of small tensile samples.

Abstract:In order to understand questions about the study on cold fusion in these years, we have studied physical basis of cold fusion. Results show that even though the cold fusion is feasible theoretically in the view of physics, but its reaction ratio is too small to be detected, so that it has no prospect for practical usage at present. However, in order to tackle urgent problem of being poor in energy resources, we have no choice but to pay more attention to controlled thermal nuclear fusion in a considerably long period of time.

Abstract:Investigation on tritium was one of the recommendations in Energy Research Advisory Board (ERAB) report of U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) in November, 1989. Fifteen years evolution of the related research proved that it was an important recommendation. A selective resonant tunneling model is attempted to explain this discovery. Deuterium flux might be a key issue to solve the problem of the reproducibility. A further investigation is suggested based on this model.
From hot fusion to cold fusion: Theory and experiments

Abstract:The resonant tunneling model has been extended to p+6Li fusion reaction after its successful application in 6 major fusion reactions (d+T, d+D, d+3He, t+T, t+3He and p+D). It shows that 4 sets of different experimental data (fusion cross-section data, astrophysical S-factor, 7Be K-capture life-time, and anomalous isotope abundance ratio (7Li/6Li) in palladium-hydride) are related through this resonant tunneling model. It confirms that resonant tunneling is the mechanism underlying those 4 seemingly independent phenomena. Thus, hot fusion data has justified the Condensed Matter Nuclear Science which will lead to an environmentally safe nuclear energy technology.

The results of the first step of the experiment are discussed. Electromagnetic radiation and energetic charged particles have been detected. Abstract:During the past three years the National Laboratory for Superconductivity has made significant progress in research on high temperature superconductivity and other related topics such as new materials synthesis,growth of high quality single crystals,mechanism studies and the development of advanced research equipment.We have grown high quality single crystal samples both for our own studies on the mechanism of high temperature superconductivity and for collaboration with leading research groups in the world.Some of the single crystals we grow are recognized as the best.Searching for new superconductors has always been one of our primary directions.The work on newly discovered iron-based superconductors has attracted international attention,and the highest Tc reported is from our laboratory.To study the mechanism of high temperature superconductors a number of facilities have been set up or developed.These include instruments for low temperature specific heat measurements,tunneling spectroscopy,angular resolved photoemission spectroscopy,and optical conductivity spectroscopy.Various important results have been obtained with these facilities.The Fermi arc ground state picture derived from specific heat data and new modes in electronic states observed by high precision angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy developed in house are two examples.Work on mesoscopic superconducting films has demonstrated interesting new features associated with the interplay between fluxions and artifacts.Extensive work has also been performed on superconducting and other related thin film materials and the applications of superconducting thin film devices.

Abstract:With strong support from Chinese government bodies such as the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China, National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Basic Research Program of China, the field of applied superconductivity in China has been developed in different areas. Especially in the fusion application area, the first fully-superconducting tokamak, EAST (Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak), has been successfully constructed and commissioned in the last two years. Based on the requirement from the ITER project, high performance Bi-2223 HTS tape, and Nb3Sn and NbTi strands have been developed as well. In the area of HTS applications for electric power systems, R&D has been focused on superconducting power cable, superconducting magnetic energy storage, superconducting transformer, superconducting fault current limiters. In this paper, the recent progress in applied superconductivity in China is reported.

Abstract:Based on brief summary of major progresses achieved in mantle geochemistry in the first decade of the 21th century,this article presents an overview on the research progresses in related fields within China.It includes the research approaches related to the upper mantle of the Earth,studies on subcontinental lithospheric mantle,mantle metasomatism and fluids/melts,the existence and significance of water in the upper mantle,the application of non-traditional stable isotopes,such as Li,Mg and Fe,application of Re-Os isotope system and database in mantle geochemical studies.Meanwhile,the outlook for the next decade is also prospected by the authors.

Abstract:Pulsed power driven high energy density physics is of very importance for inertial confinement fusion, dynamic characteristics studies of material, fusion energy and so on. Researches on pulsed-power-driven high energy density physics have been conducted more the three decades in China. In the paper a brief review of these researches will be presented. Main content will be emphasized on recent progress conducted on PTS. Future plan on new pulsed power driver for higher energy density physics will be also proposed.

Abstract:A (p+Li-6) low energy resonance state is found using the 3-parameter formula for fusion cross-section based on the selective resonant tunneling model. The electron capture is the possible weak interaction to make use of this low energy resonance. When the resonance energy level is close to zero, the width of the resonance peak in the fusion cross-section is much greater than the width of the resonance energy level; therefore, the absorption through this low energy resonance level is no longer a problem for resonant tunneling of Coulomb barrier at low energy. Both hot fusion data and the CMNS experiment data support this resonant tunneling concept. As a result, lithium turns out to be an important additive in both CMNS and Hot Plasma fusion research. Abstract:Due to the increasingly intensive impact of population growth and economy development,energy shortage is becoming more and more severe,so countries around the world are searching for substitutes for the fossil energy resources of coal,oil and gas.Nuclear fusion energy,characterized by its cleanness,high efficiency and inexhaustibility,is considered to be one of the most possible ways to solve the energy problem.This paper outlines the importance of the development of fusion energy and reviews the history of magnetic confinement fusion research,with a brief introduction to the progress of the international thermonuclear experimental reactor program and related research in China as well.The prospect of this strategy for China's nuclear energy development is given at the end.

Abstract:Within the concept of the dinuclear system (DNS), a dynamical model is proposed for describing the formation of superheavy nuclei in complete fusion reactions by incorporating the coupling of the relative motion to the nucleon transfer process. The capture of two heavy colliding nuclei, the formation of the compound nucleus, and the de-excitation process are calculated by using an empirical coupled channel model, solving a master equation numerically and applying statistical theory, respectively. Evaporation residue excitation functions in cold fusion reactions are investigated systematically and compared with available experimental data. Maximal production cross sections of superheavy nuclei in cold fusion reactions with stable neutron-rich projectiles are obtained. Isotopic trends in the production of the superheavy elements Z=110, 112, 114, 116, 118, and 120 are analyzed systematically. Optimal combinations and the corresponding excitation energies are proposed.

Abstract:This paper introduced several methods of producing UCN,and analyzed critical technologies of every method.Structures and technical parameters of solid-deuterium UCN source and superfluid 4helium UCN source were described and analyzed.The present status of UCN source constructions in foreign countries is preliminarily known according to these introductions.We also looked forward to UCN source constructions in China.

Abstract:This review highlights the recent research progress on inorganic solid state energy materials in China, from synthesis and fundamental properties to their applications. It describes the significant contributions of Chinese scholars in the field of inorganic solid state chemistry and energy materials including green catalysts, fuel cells, lithium batteries, solar cells, hydrogen storage materials, thermoelectric materials, luminescent materials and superconductors, and then outlines the ongoing rapid progress of novel inorganic solid state materials and the development of reliable and reproducible preparation methods for inorganic solid state materials in China. Finally, we conclude the paper by considering future developments of inorganic solid state chemistry and energy materials in China.
