Abstract:Symmetric sodium-ion batteries (NIBs) have become a research focus since they employ bi-functional electrode materials as both the cathode and the anode, resulting in reduced manufacturing cost and simplified fabrication process. Layered oxide bi-functional materials have received great attention recently, while phosphate analogues have rarely been involved in the same energy storage system. Herein, we report a new phosphate compound of Na3Co0.5Mn0.5Ti(PO4)3, and investigate the electrochemical performances of this bi-functional material in traditional organic electrolyte. The results demonstrate that Na3Co0.5Mn0.5Ti(PO4)3 can deliver compatible capacities of ca. 50 mA h g 1 at a rate of 0.1C in both potential windows of 2.8–4.2 V and 1.6–2.8 V. Furthermore, when applied as anode material for rechargeable NIBs, Na3Co0.5Mn0.5Ti(PO4)3 can exhibit an impressive cycling stability with capacity retention of 94% exceeding 550 cycles at a rate of 0.2C. In addition, deriving from Na3Co0.5Mn0.5Ti(PO4)3 as simple active material, we construct a symmetric NIB with an average operation voltage of 1.5 V and a specific energy of about 30 W h kg .

Abstract:Zinc-ion batteries are considered as potential large-scale renewable energy storage devices due to low redox potential, low cost, large capacity, high electric conductivity, nontoxicity and easy processing of zinc metal. However, the development of cathode materials for zinc-ion batteries to date has been mainly limited to tunnel manganese oxides and Prussian blue analogues. Here we have firstly developed NASICON structured Na3V2(PO4)3 as cathode material for Zn-ion batteries. To compensate the low conductivity, graphene-like carbon wrapped Na3V2(PO4)3 nanoparticles are fabricated. With Na3V2(PO4)3/C as cathode, Zn metal as both counter and reference electrodes, and 0.5molL−1 Zn(CH3COO)2 solution as electrolyte, the aqueous Zn-ion battery delivers a reversible capacity of 97mAhg−1 at 0.5C and retains 74% capacity after 100 cycles. Meanwhile, the battery can be charged and discharged at high rate up to 10C. The cyclic voltammogram analysis shows that the Zn-ion storage in Na3V2(PO4)3 is a diffusion-controlled kinetic process. A mechanism of Zn ion occupancy variation during cycling is proposed. Our results provide an example for understanding and designing the intercalation process of divalent metal ions in NASICON structured cathode for new type rechargeable divalent metal ion batteries.

Abstract:A high-safety and low-cost route is important in the development of sodium-ion batteries, especially for large-scale stationary battery systems. An aqueous sodium-ion battery is demonstrated using a single NASICON-structured Na 2 VTi(PO 4 ) 3 material with the redox couples of V 4+ /V 3+ and Ti 4+ /Ti 3+ working on the cathode and anode, respectively. The symmetric full cell fabricated based on the bi-functional electrode material exhibits a well-defined voltage plateau at ∼1.2 V and an impressive cycling stability with capacity retention of 70% exceeding 1,000 cycles at 10C (1C = 62 mA·g –1 ). This study provides a feasible strategy for obtaining high-safety and low-cost rechargeable batteries using a single active material in aqueous media.
Symmetric Sodium-Ion Battery based on Dual-electron Reactions of NASICON Structured Na3MnTi(PO4)3 Material.

Abstract:Symmetric sodium ion batteries possess the promising features such as low cost, easy-manufacturing process, and facile recycling post-process, which are suitable for the application of large-scale stationary energy storage. Herein, we proposed a symmetric sodium ion battery based on dual-electron reactions of NASICON structured Na3MnTi(PO4)3 material. The Na3MnTi(PO4)3 electrode can deliver a stable capacity up to 160 mAh g-1 with the Coulombic efficiency of 97 % at 0.1 C by utilizing the redox reactions of Ti3+/4+, Mn2+/3+ and Mn3+/4+. It is the first time to investigate the symmetric sodium-ion full-cell using Na3MnTi(PO4)3 as both cathode and anode in the organic electrolyte, demonstrating the excellent reversibility and cycling performance with the voltage plateaus about 1.4 V and 1.9 V. The full-cell exhibits a reversible capacity of 75 mAh g-1 at 0.1 C and an energy density of 52 Wh kg-1. In addition, both ex-situ XRD analysis and the first-principle calculations are employed to investigate the sodiation mechanism and structural evolution. The current research provides a feasible strategy for the symmetric sodium-ion batteries to achieve high energy density.

Abstract:Advanced anode materials possessing high performance, excellent stability, and low cost are quite insufficient for sodium ion batteries (NIBs), and there is a call for huge progress to meet the prerequisites toward practical applications. Herein, a silicon diphosphide (SiP2)/carbon composite anode was synthesized by a facile ball milling method to improve the NIBs performance. The well-constructed composite comprised of uniformly distributed SiP2 nanocrystallites within a conductive carbon framework greatly enhanced the electrode conductivity and structural compatibility to repeated sodiation/desodiation conversions and thus generated an excellent cyclability of >80% capacity retention for 500 cycles, a high Coulombic efficiency of 99%, and a promising fast-rate capability. In-situ/ex-situ X-ray diffraction and in-situ transmission electron microscopy investigations on the reversible electrochemical conversion of SiP2 showed the formation of Na3P and NaSi6 as the main sodiation products. This study sheds light on the realization of large-scale, high-performance NIBs through superior phosphorus-based anode materials.
A High-Energy NASICON-Type Na3.2MnTi0.8V0.2(PO4)3 Cathode Material with Reversible 3.2-Electron Redox Reaction for Sodium-Ion Batteries.

Abstract:Na superionic conductor (NASICON) structured cathode materials with robust structural stability and large Na+ diffusion channels have aroused great interest in sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, most of NASICON-type cathode materials exhibit redox reactions of no more than three electrons per formula, which strictly limits capacity and energy density. Herein, a series of NASICON-type Na3+xMnTi1-xV x (PO4)3 cathode materials are designed, which demonstrate not only a multi-electron reaction but also high voltage platform. With five redox couples from V5+/4+ (~4.1 V), Mn4+/3+ (~4.0 V), Mn3+/2+ (~3.6 V), V4+/3+ (3.4 V), and Ti4+/3+ (~2.1 V), the optimized material, Na3.2MnTi0.8V0.2(PO4)3, realizes a reversible 3.2-electron redox reaction, enabling a high discharge capacity (172.5 mAh g-1) and an ultrahigh energy density (527.2 Wh kg-1). This work sheds light on the rational construction of NASICON-type cathode materials with multi-electron redox reactions for high-energy SIBs.

Abstract:NASICON-structured materials with high ionic conductivity, robust structure, and high operation potential have aroused extensive attentions as cathode for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, the poor intrinsic electronic conductivity and low specific capacity are crucial obstacles for practical application of NASICON materials. Herein, a new NASICON-structured Na3MnTi(PO4)2.83F0.5 (NMTPF-0.5) with the hierarchical and porous structure is synthesized by a simple sol–gel method. The Rietveld refinements and Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) chemical analysis confirms the NASICON structure of NMTPF-0.5. The unique structural design significantly enhances rate performance. Meanwhile, the introduction of F- stimulates electrochemical activities of Mn, and stabilizes crystal structure compared with traditional Na3MnTi(PO4)3. Consequently, the NMTPF-0.5 achieves the high energy density of 511 Wh kg−1 at 0.1C, an outstanding rate performance (364 Wh kg−1 at 10C), and the desirable cycling stabilities exceeding 500 cycles at 10C. The ex-situ XRD reveals the insertion/extraction of Na+ through the reversible solid-solution mechanism. Moreover, we statistically analyze how the electrochemical properties and microstructure affected by various F- substitution amounts. This study explored a novel strategy for designing high capacity and high power-density cathode materials for SIBs via the microstructure and crystal structure optimization.

Abstract:Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have attracted increasing attention in the past decades, because of high overall abundance of precursors, their even geographical distribution, and low cost. Apart from inherent thermodynamic disadvantages, SIBs have to overcome multiple kinetic problems, such as fast capacity decay, low rate capacities and low Coulombic efficiencies. A special case is sodium super ion conductor (NASICON)-based electrode materials as they exhibit - besides pronounced structural stability - exceptionally high ion conductivity, rendering them most promising for sodium storage. Owing to the limiting, comparatively low electronic conductivity, nano-structuring is a prerequisite for achieving satisfactory rate-capability. In this review, we analyze advantages and disadvantages of NASICON-type electrode materials and highlight electrode structure design principles for obtaining the desired electrochemical performance. Moreover, we give an overview of recent approaches to enhance electrical conductivity and structural stability of cathode and anode materials based on NASICON structure. We believe that this review provides a pertinent insight into relevant design principles and inspires further research in this respect.
Interface Ionic/Electronic Redistribution Driven by Conversion‐Alloy Reaction for High‐Performance Solid‐State Sodium Batteries

Abstract:An ion/electron redistributed gradient sodiophilic and electronically insulating interphase are constructed on the surface of MNZSP electrolytes driven by the conversion‐alloy reaction of SnF2 interlayer with molten Na, which gives the NASICON electrolyte superior sodiophobicity and sodium dendrite suppression capability, thereby achieving uniform and dendrite‐free Na deposition during the cycling. NASICON‐type Na+ conductors show a great potential to realize high performance and safety for solid‐state sodium metal batteries (SSSMBs) owing to their superior ionic conductivity, high chemical stability, and low cost. However, the interfacial incompatibility and sodium dendrite hazards still hinder its applications. Herein, a conversion‐alloy reaction‐induced interface ionic/electronic redistribution strategy, constructing a gradient sodiophilic and electron‐blocking interphase consisting of sodium‐tin (Na‐Sn) alloy and sodium fluoride (NaF) between NASICON ceramic electrolyte and Na anode is proposed. The NaxSny alloy‐rich layer near the side of the sodium electrode acts as a superior conductor to enhance the anodic sodium‐ion transport dynamics while the NaF‐rich layer near the side of the ceramic electrolyte serves as an electron insulator to confine the interfacial electron turning ability, achieving uniform and dendrite‐free Na deposition during the cycling. Profiting from the synergistic effect of the gradient interphase, the critical current density (CCD) of the assembled Na symmetric cell is significantly increased to 1.7 mA cm−2 and the cycling stability of that is as high as 1200 h at 0.5 mA cm−2. Moreover, quasi‐solid‐state sodium batteries with both Na3V2(PO4)3 and NaNi1/3Fe1/3Mn1/3O2 cathode display outstanding electrochemical performance.

Abstract:Phosphate-based NASICON materials are an excellent candidate for both electrode and solid electrolyte materials in sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). The development of new NASICON materials with higher ionic and electronic conductivities based on low cost and abundant elements is necessary for advancement of SIBs. In this study, we report the structure, morphology and conductivity of the earth-abundant Mn/Fe-based NASICON phosphate Na4MnFe(PO4)3. Pure phase powders were synthesized by solution-assisted solid-state reaction, sol-gel and Pechini methods. From refined X-ray diffraction data, the prepared phosphate was found to crystallize in trigonal symmetry with space group R3̄c. The effect of synthesis method on microstructure and conductivity was investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and impedance measurements. Smaller particle size and regular distribution of the powder was designed using a Pechini route. Impedance measurement showed a notable enhancement in conductivity, from 0.543 × 10-7 to 1.52 × 10-7 S cm-1 at 30 °C, when the powder synthesis method was altered from a solution-assisted solid-state reaction to the Pechini route, highlighting the remarkable effect of the synthesis method on conductivity.

Abstract:Na3.83V1.17Mn0.58Ni0.25(PO4)3/C is synthesized by the sol–gel method using Mn2+ and Ni2+ to partially replace the V of Na3V2(PO4)3. Due to the synergistic effect of Mn2+ and Ni2+, the electrochemical properties of Na3.83V1.17Mn0.58Ni0.25(PO4)3/C are significantly improved. The partial substitution of V by other transition metals in Na3V2(PO4)3 is a key way to high‐rate performance of cathode materials. Partial substitution of V by other transition metals in Na3V2(PO4)3 (NVP) can improve the electrochemical performance of NVP as a cathode for sodium–ion batteries (SIBs). Herein, phosphate Na–V–Mn–Ni–containing composites based on NASICON (Natrium Super Ionic Conductor)–type structure have been fabricated by sol–gel method. The synchrotron–based X–ray study, X–ray diffraction (XRD), and X–ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) studies show that manganese/nickel combinations successfully substitute the vanadium in its site within certain limits. Among the received samples, composite based on Na3.83V1.17Mn0.58Ni0.25(PO4)3 (VMN–0.5, 108.1 mAh g−1 at 0.2 C) shows the highest electrochemical ability. The cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic intermittent titration technique, in situ XRD, ex situ XPS, and bond valence site energy calculations exhibit the kinetic properties and the sodium storage mechanism of VMN–0.5. Moreover, VMN–0.5 electrode also exhibits excellent electrochemical performance in quasi–solid–state sodium metal batteries with PVDF–HFP quasi‐solid electrolyte membranes. The presented work analyzes the advantages of VMN–0.5 and the nature of the substituted metal in relation to the electrochemical properties of the NASICON–type structure, which will facilitate further commercialization of SIBs.

Multifunctional-Element Doping of NASICON-Structured Cathode Enables High-Rate and Stable Sodium Storage

Abstract:The NASICON cathode of sodium ion battery (SIB) exhibits a stable structure and good electrochemical performance. Na3V2(PO4)(3) (NVP), as a typical NASICON cathode, has been widely used in SIBs due to its high capacity and long cycle life. However, the high proportion of vanadium in NVP escalates its cost, which deviates from the initial objective of affordable sodium-ion batteries. In this work, a multifunctional-element substitution of vanadium sites in NVP is introduced by the cost-effective transition metals (Mn and Al), which optimizes the host structure, promotes the transmission of sodium ions and improves the cycle stability. The introduction of Mn can enhance its electrochemical activity and increase the reaction potential, and the doping of Al can improve structural support and cycle stability by the enhanced covalent skeleton. It was found that the Na3.7VAl0.3-Mn0.7(PO4)(3) cathode shows a high capacity of 87.77 mAh g(-1) even at 40C (93.2 % retention compared to 1C), and the capacity retention reaches 96.33 % after 1000 cycles at 2C. In-situ XRD analysis demonstrate that the Na3.7VAl0.3Mn0.7(PO4)(3) cathode exhibits a solid solution reaction mechanism instead of the previous two-phase transformation process during the Na+ (de)insertion. Furthermore, we conducted assessments on the efficacy of diverse phosphate cathodes within a coin-type full-cell configuration, which initially exhibits a high energy density of 343.9 Wh kg(-1) and excellent capacity retention of 91.58 % after 150 cycles at 0.5C. These characteristics position it as a promising candidate for NASICON cathode materials in the field of research and development.
Robust sodium storage enabled medium entropy Na3.5V0.5Mn0.5Fe0.5Ti0.5(PO4)3 NASICON with multielectron reaction for sodium-ion battery

Abstract:Sodium superionic conductors (NASICONs) have attracted enormous attention owing to their excellent ionic diffusion and structural stability. However, the high cost of vanadium, limited capacity due to fewer redox reactions, and low electronic conductivity restrict their practical application. Herein, we designed Na 3.5 V 0.5 Mn 0.5 Fe 0.5 Ti 0.5 (PO 4 ) 3 (NVMFTP) medium entropy NASICON with multi-electron reactions as a fast sodium storage cathode for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). The incorporation of Fe, Mn and Ti not only reduces the cost but also activates multi-redox reactions of V 2+ /V 3+ , Ti 3+ /Ti 4+ , Fe 2+ /Fe 3+ , V 3+ /V 4+ , Mn 2+ /Mn 3+ , V 4+ /V 5+ . Owing to distinctive structural design with medium entropy, the NVMFTP delivered 168 mAh·g −1 at 0.5C with a remarkable rate capability of 93.51 mAh·g −1 at 60C and steady long-term cycling performance till 5000 cycles. More importantly, NVMFTP takes only 11 min to achieve 80% SOC at 5C. The in-situ and ex-situ X-ray diffraction (XRD) further demonstrate reversible multi-electron reaction mechanisms of slow charging and fast charging. NVMFTP/HC full cell shows 110 mAh·g −1 capacity and 208 Wh·kg −1 energy density. This study will provide comprehensive insight into developing low-cost, cutting-edge materials for SIBs.

Abstract:Owning to non-toxic and high working potential, Mn-substituted NASICON-type Na3+ x Mn x V2- x (PO4)3 cathodes have promising application in sodium ion batteries (SIBs). However, the poor cycling stability limits their further practical applications. Herein, a succession of carbon coated Na3.75Mn0.75V1.25(PO4)3 cathodes are constructed via a sol–gel combining with heating treatment. The effects of carbon content on the structure, electrochemical properties and sodium ion diffusion kinetics are investigated. The optimal composition, Na3.75Mn0.75V1.25(PO4)3/2VitC, displays an outstanding specific capacity and long-cycling stability. It releases a discharge capacity of 105.6 mAh g- 1 with a high initial Coulombic efficiency of 97.5% at 0.2C. It can also deliver a high capacity of 92.6 mAh g- 1 with a capacity retention of 88.3% at 5C over 2000 cycling, and the reversible capacity can achieve to 79.1 mAh g- 1 with 78% capacity retention after 4000 cycles at high rate of 10C. Ex-situ X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveal a biphasic reaction process and high structural reversibility during sodium ion insertion/extraction. The good multiplicity performances, excellent long cycle stability and low cost of the optimized Na3.75Mn0.75V1.25(PO4)3 composite indicate that it is a promising cathode material for SIBs.

NASICON-Type NaTi2(PO4)3 Surface Modified O3-Type NaNi0.3Fe0.2Mn0.5O2 for High-Performance Cathode Material for Sodium-Ion Batteries.

Abstract:Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have shown great potential as energy storage devices due to their low price and abundant sodium content. Among them, O3-type layered oxides are a promising cathode material for sodium-ion batteries; however, most of them suffer from slow kinetics and unfavorable structural stability, which seriously hinder their practical application. O3-NaNi0.3Fe0.2Mn0.5O2 surface modification is performed by a simple wet chemical method of coating NaTi2(PO4)3 on the surface. The NASICON-type NaTi2(PO4)3 coating layer has a special three-dimensional channel, which facilitates the rapid migration of Na+, and the NaTi2(PO4)3 coating layer also prevents direct contact between the electrode and the electrolyte, ensuring the stability of the interface. In addition, the NaTi2(PO4)3 coating layer induces part of the Ti4+ doping into the transition metal layer of NaNi0.3Fe0.2Mn0.5O2, which increases the stability of the transition metal layer and reduces the resistance of Na+ diffusion. More importantly, the NaTi2(PO4)3 coating layer can suppress the O3-P3 phase transition and reduce the volume change of the materials throughout the charge/discharge process. Thus, the NaTi2(PO4)3 coating layer can effectively improve the electrochemical performance of the cathode materials. The NFM@NTP3 has a capacity retention of 86% (2.0-4.0 V vs Na+/Na, 300 cycles) and 85% (2.0-4.2 V vs Na+/Na, 100 cycles) at 1C and a discharge capacity of 107 mAh g-1 (2.0-4.0 V vs Na+/Na) and 125 mAh g-1 (2.0-4.2 V vs Na+/Na) at 10C, respectively. Therefore, this surface modification strategy provides a simple and effective way to design and develop high-performance layered oxide cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries.

Abstract:The Mn-based Natrium superionic conductor (NASICON)-type materials are promising cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to their environmental friendliness and cost-effectiveness. However, the practical application of Mn-based materials is hindered by their poor cycle performance, arising from intrinsic kinetic limitation and negative structural degradation caused byMn. Herein, a Mn-based ternary NASICON-type Na3.5MnTi0.5Cr0.5(PO4)3/C (NMTCP-50) is designed featuring multi-metal synergy with enhanced effect from each component, which contributes to breaking through the bottleneck of inferior cycle performance for Mn-based NASICON-type materials. The results of ex-situ X-ray diffraction corroborate that both solid-solution and bi-phase electrochemical reactions are involved in the sodiation/desodiation processes, and the volume variation is only 2.55 %. Galvanostatic intermittent titration technique tests and density functional theory calculations further demonstrate the fast reaction kinetics of the NMTCP-50 electrode. NMTCP-50 can deliver an excellent cycling durability of 75 % after 5000 cycles at 2 A g−1 and a high reversible capacity of 137.6 mAh g−1. The availability of NMTCP-50 has been evaluated by a full cell assembled with hard carbon. This work offers theoretical support for understanding the multi-metal synergistic effect in NASICON materials and provides a blueprint for designing low-cost NASICON cathodes.

Abstract:Herein, a series of manganese-based NASICON structured Na1+2x Mn x Ti2-x (PO4)3 (x = 1, 1.2, 1.4, denoted as NMTP, NM1.2T0.8P and NM1.4T0.6P) are obtained by sol-gel method and employed as cathodes for an aqueous sodium ion battery (ASIB). There is no obvious difference in structure among these samples, except for a small amount of impurity phase detected in NM1.4T0.6P. Three as-prepared samples exhibit impressive electrochemical performances, thereinto NM1.2T0.8P possesses the best electrochemical performance with the proper operating potential. NM1.2T0.8P delivers a discharge specific capacity of 68.2, 60.3, 52.2, 45.9 mAh g−1 at 1, 2, 5, 10 C, and still maintain 62.8 mAh g−1 when the current density returns to 1 C. Meanwhile, long-term cycling performance test shows that NM1.2T0.8P displays an initial discharge capacity of 46.4 mAh g−1 and still retains a reversible capacity of 39.1 mAh g−1 at 10 C rate after 300 cycles. Cyclic voltammetry demonstrates that both the diffusion and pseudocapacitance determine the sodium-ion (Na-ion) storage mechanism of NM1.2T0.8P and the pseudocapacitance dominates the charge/discharge processes. Besides, a cathode-limited full cell with NM1.2T0.8P cathode and NaTi2(PO4)3 anode was assembled and shows excellent long-term cycling performance with a capacity retention ratio of 81.9 % at 10 C after 200 cycles. This exploration of manganese-based NASICON structured Na1+2x Mn x Ti2-x (PO4)3 provides an option for cathode materials of ASIB.

Abstract:Iron-based phosphate materials have been employed as cathodes for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) because of their low cost and environmental friendliness, but the electrochemical performance of this kind cathode is far from that of a practical application. On one hand, the huge volume expansion during sodium-ion insertion/extraction restricts its cycle life. On the other hand, the relativity low capacity and working potential result in a low energy density. Herein, we report a new NASCION-phase iron-based phosphate material with a formula of Na3Fe2(PO4)(P2O7), which possesses a theoretical capacity of 119 mAh g(-1) and an average working potential of 3.1 V versus Na/Na+, along with a small volume change during Na-ion insertion/extraction in SIBs. Moreover, the reduced graphene oxide has been introduced during synthesis to enhance the electrochemical performance. The composite cathode exhibits an initial reversible specific capacity of 110.2 mAh g(-1) at 0.1 C and maintains a specific capacity of 89.7% after 6400 cycles at 20 C.
A Novel NASICON-Type Na3.5MnCr0.5Ti0.5(PO4)3 Nanofiber with Multi-electron Reaction for High-Performance Sodium-Ion Batteries

Abstract:Sodium superionic conductors (NASICONs) show significant promise for application in the development of cathodes for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, it remains a major challenge to develop the desired multi-electron reaction cathode with a high specific capacity and energy density. Herein, we report a novel NASICON-type Na3.5MnCr0.5Ti0.5(PO4)3 cathode obtained by combining electrospinning and stepwise sintering processes. This cathode exhibits a high discharge capacity of 160.4 mAh g−1 and operates at a considerable medium voltage of 3.2 V. The Na3.5MnCr0.5Ti0.5(PO4)3 cathode undergoes a multi-electron redox reaction involving the Cr3+/4+ (4.40/4.31 V vs. Na/Na+), Mn3+/4+ (4.18/4.03 V), Mn2+/3+ (3.74/3.41 V), and Ti3+/4+ (2.04/2.14 V) redox couples. This redox reaction enables a three-electron transfer during the Na+ intercalation/de-intercalation processes. As a result, the Na3.5MnCr0.5Ti0.5(PO4)3 demonstrates a significant enhancement in energy density, surpassing other recently reported SIB cathodes. The highly reversible structure evolution and small volume changes during cycling were demonstrated with in-situ X-ray diffraction, ensuring outstanding cyclability with 77% capacity retention after 500 cycles. Furthermore, a NMCTP@C//Sb@C full battery was fabricated, which delivered a high energy density of 421 Wh kg−1 and exhibited good cyclability with 75.7% capacity retention after 100 cycles. The rational design of composition regulation with multi-metal ion substitution holds the potential to unlock new possibilities in achieving high-performance SIBs.Graphical AbstractA novel NASICON-structured Na3.5MnCr0.5Ti0.5(PO4)3 nanofiber was successfully designed and prepared. This nanofiber was employed to research the multi-electron reaction and the resulting structural evolution in SIBs. The optimal Na-migration pathway has also been investigated by DFT computations. A full SIB battery was fabricated and delivered a high energy density (421 Wh kg−1) and cyclability (75.7% after 100 cycles at 100 mA g−1).
