Abstract:Two monoguanidinate rare‐earth metal aminobenzyl enolate complexes LRE(CH2C6H4NMe2‐o)(OCH=CH2)(THF) (L = (PhCH2)2NC(NC6H3iPr2‐2,6)2; RE = Y (1a), Lu (1b)) were synthesized via two pathways of the ring‐opening of THF, and their reactivities with some molecules were also explored. Reaction of complex 1a with iPrNCNiPr gave the insertion product LY[(NiPr2)2CCH2C6H4NMe2‐o](OCH=CH2)(THF) (2). Whereas, in the case of PhNCS, LY[SC(CH2C6H4NMe2‐o)NPh](OCH=CH2)(THF) (3) and the ligands redistribution binuclear yttrium enolate complex [LY(µ‐OCH=CH2)(OCH=CH2)]2 (4) were obtained. The protonolysis products LY(NHPh)(OCH=CH2)(THF)2 (5), LY(NHPh)2(THF)2 (6) and LY(NPh2)(OCH=CH2)(THF)2 (7) were achieved by reaction of 1a with arylamine. Moreover, the THF ring‐opening insertion products with unique structures {LY[O(CH2)4PPh2][µ‐O(CH2)4PPh2]}2 (8) and {LY(SCH2C6H4NMe2‐o)[µ‐O(CH2)4SCH2C6H4NMe2‐o]}2 (9) were afforded through reactions of complex 1a with diphenylphosphine and elemental sulfur. It was the first example of THF activation promoted by rare‐earth metal thiolate complex. And some interesting chemical transformations were observed in our work. Complexes 1 could also serve as efficient initiators in the ring‐opening polymerization of rac‐lactide.

Abstract:Three kinds of solvated lithium amidinates with different coordination models were obtained via recrystallization of [PhC((NC6H4Pr2)-Pr-i-2,6)(2)]Li(THF) (1a) in different solvents. Treatment of o-Me2NC6H4CH2Li with LLnCl(2)(THF)(n) (2; L = [PhC((NC6H4Pr2)-Pr-i-2,6)(2)](-) (NCNdipp), [o-Me2NC6H4CH2C-((NC6H4Pr2)-Pr-i-2,6)(2)](-) (NCNdipp)) formed in situ from reaction of LnCl(3)(THF)(x) with LLi(THF) gave the rare-earth-metal bis(aminobenzyl) complexes LLn-(CH2C6H4NMe2-o)(2) (L = NCNdipp, Ln = Sc (3a), Y (3b), Lu (3c); L = NCNdipp, Ln = Sc (3d), Lu (3e)) in high yields. Reactions of complexes 3 with CO2, PhNCO, 2,6-diisopropylaniline, and S have been explored. CO2 inserted into each Ln-C bond of complexes 3a-c to form the dual-core complexes [(NCNdipp)Sc(mu-eta(1):eta(1)-O2C CH2C6H4NMe2-o)(2)](2) (4a) and [(NCNdipp)Ln(mu-eta(1):eta(2-)/O2CCH2C6H4NMe2-o)(mu-eta(1):eta(O2CCH2C6H4NMe2)-O-2-o)](2) (Ln = Y (4b), Lu (4c)). The reaction of 3b,c,e with PhNCO produced LLu[OC(CH2C6H4NMe2-o)NPh](2)(thf) (L = NCN&PP, Ln = Y (5b), Lu (5c);.L = NCNdipp, Ln = Lu (Se)). Protonolysis of 3a,b by 2,6-diisopropylaniline formed straightforwardly the mu(2)-imido complexes [(NCNdipp)Ln(mu-(NC6H4Pr2)-Pr-i-2,6)](2) (Ln = Sc (6a), Lu (6c)). Reaction of 3e with S-8 afforded the sulfur insertion products (NCNdipp')(CH2C6H4NMe2-o)(SCH2C6H4NMe2-o)(thf) (7e) and (NCNdipp)Lu(SCH2C6H4NMe2-o)2(thf)(2) (7f) in high yields, respectively, depending on the stoichiometric ratio. All of these complexes were fully characterized by elemental analysis, NMR spectroscopy, and X-ray structural determinations.

Abstract:A series of phenylenediamidinate rare earth metal complexes 1,4-C6H4[C(NR)(2)Ln(o-CH2C6H4NMe2)(2)](2) (R = 2,6-Pr-i(2)-C6H3, Ln = Y (2a), Lu (2b), Sc (2c)) were synthesized by deprotonation of 1,4-C6H4[C(NR)(NHR)](2) (1) with two equivalents of n-BuLi followed by reacting with two equivalents of anhydrous LnCl(3) and subsequently four equivalents of Li(o-CH2C6H4NMe2), or by protolysis of [Ln(o-CH2C6H4NMe2)(3)] with 0.5 equivalent of 1 in THF or toluene. Treatment of complexes 2a and 2b with four equivalents of phenyl isocyanate and phenyl isothiocyanate gave the corresponding insertion products 1,4-C6H4[C(NR)(2)Ln{OC(CH2C6H4NMe2-o)NPh}(2)(THF)](2) (Ln = Y (3a), Lu (3b)) and 1,4-C6H4[C(NR)(2)Ln{SC(CH2C6H4NMe2-o)NPh}(2)](2) (Ln = Y (4a), Lu (4b)), respectively. The structures of 1, 3b, and 4a were established by X-ray diffraction studies. Complexes 2 show high activity for rac-lactide and e-caprolactone polymerization; for the former a synergistic effect between two metal centers is observed.

Synthesis, Characterization and Fluorescence of Rare Earth Nitrate Complexes with Triaza-Crown Ether Derivative

Abstract:Four new complexes of rare earths with a triaza-crown ether (L) derived from N3O2-macro cycle 1,12,15-triaza-3, 4: 9,10-dibenzo-5, 8-dioxacycloheptadecane were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, molar conductance, TG-DTA analysis and fluorescence spectra. The composition of the complexes determined as [RE(NO3)3L*3H2O]*H2O (RE=Sm, Eu, Tb and Dy). It is found that Sm3+, Eu3+, Tb3+ and Dy3+ complexes all show strong fluorescence emission in the solid state. Among these complexes, Tb3+ complex has the strongest luminescence intensity. It shows that the ligand L triplet state energy matches 5D4 energy level of Tb3+. In the Eu3+ complex, η(5D0→7F2/5D0→7F1) is 2.6, which indicates that Eu3+ locates at the asymmetric coordination field.

Abstract:The oxygen-bridged dinuclear rare earth complexes (Ln = Nd (1), Y (2)) bearing N-heterocyclic olefin moieties were synthesized by treating the imidazolidinium salt [SIMes-H]Br with potassium amide and rare earth bis(trimethylsilyl)amides. Complex 1 was characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis and complex 2 was characterized by H-1 NMR spectroscopy. Both complexes were characterized by elemental analysis. Crystal data of complex 1: C74H138O2N8Si8Nd2, M-r = 1685.12, orthorhombic, space group Pbca, a = 25.1105(7), b = 11.9188(2), c = 29.6151(7) angstrom, V= 8863.4(4) angstrom(3), Z = 4, D-c = 1.263 g.cm(-3), mu = 1.311 mm(-1), F(000) = 3544, the final R = 0.0418 and wR = 0.0770 for all data. The ring-opening of tetrahydrofuran molecule was proven, the possible mechanism for the formation of N-heterocyclic olefin (NHO)-rare earth complexes was speculated and the electronic and steric properties of SIMes and rare earth amides were discussed. This work provides a better understanding of N-heterocyclic carbene rare earth chemistry.

Abstract:Five novel rare earth complexes RE 2(NO 3) 6L 2��nH 2O have been synthesized, where L = 1, 5 - bis(1�� - phenyl - 3�� - methyl - 5�� - pyrazolone - 4��) - 1 - (4�� - aminobutane - 1�� - imino) - 5 - pentaone, a new polydentate ligand containing �� - diketone, Schiff - base and NH 2 groups, RE = Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho. They were characterized by elemental analysis, mass spectra(FAB), FTIR, micro FTIR, variable temperature FTIR and extended X - ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS). The results indicate that the complexes are dimer. There are three types of NO 3 - ions in the complexes, mono and didentate ligands and just anion as banlance ion. The C = O, C = N and NH 2 groups all coordinated to rare earth. The coordination number is ca. eight. Two nitrogen and six oxygen atoms make up two coordinate layers. The ranges RE-N is around 0.230-0.240nm and RE - O 0.240-0.250nm. The preliminary results of bioassay show that the compounds have fungicidal activities and can regulate the growth of plants. Some complexes have cardiovascular activities in vitro.

Abstract:The treatment of Cp(3)Ln with 1 equiv of N,N'-dicyclohexyl-N ''-phenylguanidine followed by reacting with butyllithium yields a series of novel guanidinate dianion complexes of heterobimetallic lanthanide-lithium with formula Cp(2)Ln[(CyN)(2)CNPh]Li(THF)(3) (Ln = Yb (1a), Er (1b), Y (1c), Dy (1d)). Reactivities of these dianionic guanidinate complexes toward various electrophiles have been investigated. Reaction of 1 with Me2RSiCl produced tetrasubstituted guanidinate monoanion complexes Cp(2)Ln[(CyN)(2)CN(Ph)SiRME2] ((R = Me, Ln = Yb (2a), Er (2b), Y (2c); R = Bu-t, Ln = Yb (3a), Er (3b)), indicating that the Li-N bond is preferred to couple with cholorsilanes. In contrast, the regioselective functionalization of the NCy group bonded to the lanthanide ion was achieved by reaction of 1a with Me2SiCl2 to produced Me2Si(CyN)(2)C=NPh (4) and Cp2YbCl(THF) (5). Significantly, treatment of 1d with PhCOCl leads to the cleavage of one C-N bond of the dianionic guanidinate, giving the acylamino complex [Cp2Dy(OC(Ph)NCy)](2) (6). These results have shown that the active site of the dianionic guanidinate ligand is tunable due to the delocalization of the two negative charges on the three N atoms. All the compound were characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic methods. The structures of compounds 1-6 are also determined through X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis.

Abstract:Rare earth metal complexes have attracted great attention due to their special physical and chemical properties. In this paper, a series of complexes of rare earth nitrates with N,N′-bis(3-pyridylmethyl)-1,2-ethylenediamine ligand (L) were synthesized from the acetonitrile solution. The obtained new complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. The results show that all the complexes have 1∶1 molar ratio of metal salt to ligand with general formula of [RE(NO_3)_3L]·nH_2O [RE=La(Ⅲ), Nd(Ⅲ), Eu(Ⅲ), Tb(Ⅲ), Er(Ⅲ), n= 2.5, 1.5, 1]. The luminescent properties of Eu(Ⅲ) and Tb(Ⅲ) complexes were also studied at room temperature in the solid state and it is found that the Eu(Ⅲ) and Tb(Ⅲ) complexes show characteristic emissions of Eu(Ⅲ) and Tb(Ⅲ) ions, respectively.

Abstract:The direct reactions of (C5H5)(2)LnCl with LiN=C(NMe2)(2) proceeded at room temperature in THF under pure nitrogen to yield the lanthanocene guanidinate complexes [(C5H5)(2)Ln(mu-eta(1):eta(2)-N=C(NMe2)(2))](2) (Ln = Gd (1), Er (2)). Treatment of phenyl isocyanate with complexes 1 and 2 results in monoinsertion of phenyl isocyanate into the Ln-N(mu-Gua) bond to yield the corresponding insertion products [(C5H5)(2)Ln(mu-eta(1):eta(2)-OC(N=C(Nme(2))(2))NPh)](2) (Ln = Gd (3), Er (4)), presenting the first example of unsaturated organic small molecule insertion into the metal-guanidinate ligand bond. Further investigations indicate that N,N'-diisopropylcarbodiimide does not react with complexes 1 and 2 under the same conditions; however, it readily inserts into the lithium-guanidinate ligand bond of LiN=C(NMe2)(2). As a synthon of the insertion product Li[((PrN)-Pr-i)(2)C(N=C(NMe2)(2))], its reaction with (C5H5)(2)LnCl gives the novel organolanthanide complexes containing the guanidinoacetamidinate ligand, (C5H5)(2)Ln[((PrN)-Pr-i)(2)C(N=C(NMe2)(2))] (Ln = Yb (5), Er (6), Dy (7)). All complexes were characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic properties. The structures of complexes 1, 3, 5 and 7 were determined through X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis.
A Binuclear Guanidinate Yttrium Carbyne Complex: Unique Reactivity Toward Unsaturated C-N, C-O and C-S Bonds

Abstract:A guanidinato-stabilized binuclear yttrium carbyne complex [(PhCH2)2NC(NC6H3iPr2-2,6)2]2Y2(μ2-Me)(AlMe3)2(μ4-CH) (1) was synthesized via C-H bond activation and its versatile reactivities were investigated. Complex 1 underwent σ-bond metathesis with PhSSPh and nucleophilic addition with PhCN to form the corresponding yttrium thiolate complex 3 and aza-allyl complex 4 respectively. Additionally, the rare yttrium carbide complex 5 was also prepared by treatment of complex 1 with S8. Interestingly, in the reaction with PhNCS, the C[double bond, length as m-dash]S double bond was cleaved, followed by C-H bond activation to give the yttrium sulfide complex 7 with a ketenimine dianion ligand. Unexpectedly, the reaction of complex 1 with CO (1 atm) resulted in deoxygenative coupling of CO, to afford mono- or dioxo-yttrium complexes at different temperatures. The mechanism of the possible formation processes of complexes 3 and 9 was elucidated by DFT calculations.

Abstract:Treatment of Cp(3)Ln with o-aminobenzamide followed by crystallization in a HMPA and toluene mixture affords the tetranuclear organolanthanide complexes [CpLn(mu-eta(2):eta(2)-NHC6H4CONH)(mu(3)-eta(1):eta(1):eta(2)-NHC6H4CONH) LnCp(HMPA)}(2) (Ln=Yb, 1; Er, 1b; Y, 1c). Reaction of 1 with PhNCO (n(PhNCO)/n(1)=4) in toluene gives the dianionic quinazolyldiolate (Quo) complexes [Cp(2)Ln(mu(3)-eta(2):eta(2):eta(1)-Quo)](3)Ln(HMPA)(2) (Ln =Yb, 2a; Er, 2b; Y, 2c), indicating that one isocyanate molecule can undergo the tandem reaction with both NH and CONH of 1 to construct a quinazoly-ldiolate skeleton, companying with the elimination of PhNH2. However, 1a similar to 1c react with (PrN)-Pr-i=C=(NPr)-Pr-i under the same conditions to give only the single ArNH addition products {Cp(2)Ln [mu-eta(1):eta(1):eta(2)-(PrNC)-Pr-i((NHPr)-Pr-i) NC6H4 CONH]}(3)Ln (HMPA)(3) (Ln=Yb, 3a; Er, 3b; Y, 3c). Furthermore, treatment of Cp(3)Ln with o-aminobenzamide followed by reacting with (PrN)-Pr-i=C=(NPr)-Pr-i gave {CpLn[mu-eta(1):eta(2):eta(2)-NHCOC6H4NC((NHPr)-Pr-i)(NPr)-Pr-i]}(2) (Ln=Yb, 4a; Er, 4b; Y, 4c). Noticeably, HMPA could induce the transformation of 4 into 3 by a ligand redistribution. Abstract:A new asymmetric ligand, 5-{3-[5-(4-methylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl]phenyl}-2-(pyridin-3-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (L5), which contains two oxadiazole rings, was synthesized and characterized. The assembly of symmetric 2,5-bis(pyridin-3-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (L1) and asymmetricL5with AgCO2CF3in solution yielded two novel AgIcomplexes, namelycatena-poly[[di-μ-trifluoroacetato-disilver(I)]-bis[μ-2,5-bis(pyridin-3-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole]], [Ag2(C2F3O2)2(C12H8N4O)2]nor [Ag2(μ2-O2CCF3)2(L1)2]n(1), and bis(μ3-5-{3-[5-(4-methylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl]phenyl}-2-(pyridin-3-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole)tetra-μ3-trifluoroacetato-tetrasilver(I) dichloromethane monosolvate, [Ag4(C2F3O2)4(C22H15N5O2)2]·CH2Cl2or [Ag2(μ3-O2CCF3)2(L5)]2·CH2Cl2(2). Complex1displays a one-dimensional ring–chain motif, where dinuclear Ag2(CF3CO2)2units alternate with Ag2(L1)2macrocycles. This structure is different from previously reported Ag–L1complexes with different anions. Complex2features a tetranuclear supramolecular macrocycle, in which each ligand adopts a tridentate coordination mode with the oxadiazole ring next to thep-tolyl ring coordinated and that next to the pyridyl ring free. TwoL5ligands are bound to two Ag1 centres through two oxadiazole N and two pyridyl N atoms to form a macrocycle. The other two oxadiazole N atoms coordinate to the two Ag2 centres of the Ag2(O2CCF3)4dimer. Each CF3CO2−anion adopts a μ3-coordination mode, bridging the Ag1 and Ag2 centres to form a tetranuclear silver(I) complex. This study indicates that the donor ability of the bridging oxadiazole rings can be tuned by electron-withdrawing and -donating substituents. The emission properties of ligandsL1andL5and complexes1and2were also investigated in the solid state.

Abstract:The phosphaguanidinate rare-earth-metal bis(aminobenzyl) complexes [(Ph 2 P)C(NC 6 H 3 i Pr 2 -2,6) 2 ]Ln(CH 2 C 6 H 4 NMe 2 - o ) 2 (Ln = Y( 1-Y ), Lu( 1-Lu )) were synthesized by the protonolysis of (Ph 2 P)[C(NHR)(NR)] (R = 2,6-( i Pr) 2 C 6 H 3 ) with Ln(CH 2 C 6 H 4 NMe 2 - o ) 3 (Ln = Y , Lu ). Interestingly, the ring-opened rearrangement product [ o -Me 2 NC 6 H 4 CH 2 C(NC 6 H 3 i Pr 2 -2,6) 2 ]Lu(CH 2 C 6 H 4 NMe 2 - o )[O(CH 2 ) 4 PPh 2 ] ( 2 ) was obtained when the acid-base reaction was carried out in THF solution at 60 o C for 36 h. Additionally, the trinuclear homometallic yttrium multimethyl/methylidene complex {[(Ph 2 P)C(NC 6 H 3 i Pr 2 -2,6)2]Y( μ -Me)} 3 (μ3-Me)(μ 3 -CH 2 ) ( 3 ) was synthesized by the treatment of 1-Y with AlMe 3 (2 equiv) in toluene at ambient temperature in good yield. However, the binuclear lutetium methyl complex {[(Ph 2 P)C(NC 6 H 3 i Pr2-2,6) 2 ]Lu(μ-Me)Me} 2 ( 4 ) can be generated through the same synthetic method. Likewise, the heterobimetallic Ln-Al complexes [(Ph 2 P)C(NC 6 H 3 i Pr 2 -2,6)2]Ln(Me)(AlMe 4 ) (Ln = Y( 6-Y ), Lu( 6-Lu )) were afforded from the treatment of complex 1 with AlMe 3 (3 equiv) at ambient temperature for 6 h. Interestingly, extended reaction time of the treatment of 1-Y with three equivalents of AlMe 3 , the phosphaguanidinate binuclear yttrium carbyne complex [(Ph 2 P)C(NC 6 H 3 i Pr 2 -2,6) 2 ] 2 Y 2 (μ 4 -CH)(μ-Me)(AlMe 3 ) 2 ( 7 ) and yttrium carbide complex [(Ph 2 P)C(NC 6 H 3 i Pr 2 -2,6) 2 ] 2 Y 2 (μ 5 -C)(AlMe 2 )(μ-Me)(AlMe 3 ) 2 ( 8 ) were isolated via multiple C-H bond activation. Furthermore, the heterobimetallic Y-Al complexes [(Ph 2 P)C(NC 6 H 3 i Pr 2 -2,6) 2 ]Y(AlMe 4 ) 2 ( 9 ) was also given from the treatment of 1-Y with four equivalents of AlMe 3 .

Abstract:Three novel N,N′-bis(2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)-1,3-diaminopropane dimeric lanthanide complexes, namely, [{H2L}Sm(NO3)3]2·H2O (1), [{H2L}Gd(NO3)3]4·CH3OH (2), [{H2L}Lu(NO3)3]4·H2O (3) (H2L=N,N′-bis(2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)-1,3-diaminopropane) and three new N,N′-bis(2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)-1,3-diaminopropane 3d-Gd heterodinuclear complexes, namely, [{LCo}(CH3COO)(CH3COOH)Gd(NO3)2] (4), [{LNi(MeOH)2}Gd(NO3)3]·2MeOH (5) and [{(L)Zn(HNO3)}Gd(NO3)3]·NO3·H3O·MeOH (6) have been synthesized and isolated. X-ray crystallographical analysis reveals that complexes 1–3 are isomorphic with unique dimeric topology. Complexes 4–6 are of discrete 3d–4f dinuclear cores. Magnetic properties of complexes 2 and 4–6 are systematically investigated. Complexes 4 and 5 are ferromagnetic, while 2 and 6 are antiferromagnetic.

Abstract:A guanidinato-stabilized binuclear yttrium carbyne complex [(PhCH 2 ) 2 NC(NC 6 H 3 i Pr 2 -2,6) 2 ] 2 Y 2 (μ 2 -Me)(AlMe 3 ) 2 (μ 4 -CH) ( 1 ) was synthesized via C−H bond activation and its versatile reactivities were investigated. Complex 1 underwent σ-bond metathesis with PhSSPh and nucleophilic addition with PhCN to form corresponding yttrium thiolate complex 3 and aza-allyl complex 4 respectively. Additionally, the rare yttrium carbide complex 5 was also prepared by treament of complex 1 with S 8 . Interestingly, in the reaction with PhNCS, the C=S double bond was cleaved and followed by C−H bond activation to give the yttrium sulfide complex 7 with a ketenimine dianion ligand. Most fascinatingly, reaction of complex 1 with CO (1 atm) resulted in Deoxy-coupling of CO, to afford mono- or dioxo yttrium complexes at different temperature, and the mechanism of the possible formation process of complex 9 was elucidated by DFT calculations

Abstract:Four Ag(I), Cd(II) and Cu(II) complexes, [Ag2L2](ClO4)2 (1), [CdL(NO3)2] (2), [Cd2L2Cl4] (3) and [Cu2L2(ClO4)3](ClO4) (4), derived from the new Schiff base ligand (N1E,N2E)-N1,N2-bis(1-(pyrazin-2-yl)ethylidene)ethane-1,2 diamine (L) have been synthesized and crystallographically characterized. The crystal structural features of 1–4 show that 1 is a ligand-supported dinuclear silver complex, 2 is a mononuclear eight-coordinate complex, 3 is a dinuclear hepta coordinate species and 4, interestingly, discloses two distinctly crystallographically independent groups of mononuclear [Cu(ClO4)2L] and a 1D [Cu(ClO4)L](ClO4) unit in one asymmetric group. Furthermore, π⋯π stacking and/or hydrogen bonding interactions seem to be effective in stabilizing these crystal structures. The antioxidant activities of L and complexes 1–4 have also been studied.
