Abstract:A new ternary system consisting of ZnO nanorod/reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/CuInS2 quantum dots has been successfully prepared for photocatalytic application under visible light irradiation. Through the hybridization with the light harvesting material of CuInS2, as well as the conductivity medium RGO, the ternary composite achieves a greatly enhanced light absorption and charge transfer than that of the pristine ZnO. The photocatalytic performance of ZnO-RGO-CuInS2 is substantially elevated with an optimized content of 10% CuInS2 incorporated. The composite material of ZnO-RGO-10% CuInS2 can nearly completely degrade Rhodamine B (RhB) solution in 120 min, whereas bare ZnO itself can only degrade 20% RhB. The excellent photocatalytic performance of ZnO-RGO-CuInS2 demonstrates its promising in the photocatalytic or other extended applications. This work demonstrates a facile way to prepare integrative photosensitizer by taking advantage from the co-catalysts for more efficient and stable semiconductor based composite photocatalyst. Construction of a direct Z-scheme ZnS quantum dot (QD)-Fe2O3 QD heterojunction/reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite with enhanced photocatalytic activity

Abstract:A novel direct Z-scheme ZnS quantum dot (QD)-Fe2O3 QD heterojunction/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) (GZxFy) nanocomposite was successfully synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method. The surface of ZnS and Fe2O3 QDs was modified by -COOH and -OH groups, respectively. ZnS QDs can be covalently bonded with Fe2O3 QDs by the dehydration reaction to form the ZnS QDs-Fe2O3 QDs heterojunctions. The GZxFy nanocomposites displayed the highest photodegradation efficiency of 96.45% (40 min, UV light) and 90.17% (480 min, visible light) for methylene blue when the mass ratio of ZnS QDs to Fe2O3 QDs was 1:3. The excellent photocatalytic activity could be attributed to the enhanced light-harvesting ability, high large specific surface area, efficient interfacial charge-carrier separation and transfer as well as the low charge transfer resistance. Ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy and radical trapping experiments were used to confirm the Z-scheme mechanism formed between ZnS QDs and Fe2O3 QDs, and verify the electron transfer direction for UV or visible light-driven photocatalytic reactions. GZ1F3 nanocomposites showed the excellent superparamagnetic behavior, which enabled its rapid magnetic recycle from the solution within 95 s in a magnetic field.

Abstract:In this work, we develop a novel environmentally friendly strategy toward one-pot synthesis of CuS nanoparticle-decorated reduced graphene oxide (CuS/rGO) nanocomposites with the use of L-cysteine, an amino acid, as a reducing agent, sulfur donor, and linker to anchor CuS nanoparticles onto the surface of rGO sheets. Upon visible light illumination (λ > 400 nm), the CuS/rGO nanocomposites show pronounced enhanced photocurrent response and improved photocatalytic activity in the degradation of methylene blue (MB) compared to pure CuS. This could be attributed to the efficient charge transport of rGO sheets and hence reduced recombination rate of excited carriers.
One-pot Synthesis of ZnS Nanowires/cu7s4 Nanoparticles/reduced Graphene Oxide Nanocomposites for Supercapacitor and Photocatalysis Applications

Abstract:The zinc sulfide (ZnS) nanowires (NWs)/analite (Cu7S4) nanoparticles (NPs)/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanocomposites were fabricated for the first time using a one-pot hydrothermal method, and the resulting nanocomposites can be used as a photocatalyst and the electrode for a supercapacitor. The ZnS NWs/Cu7S4 NPs/rGO nanocomposites showed excellent electrochemical performance with the maximum specific capacitance of 1114 F g-1 at a current density of 1 A g-1, good cycling stability with capacitance retention of 88% after 5000 cycles and low charge transfer resistance of 0.011 Ω. The ZnS NWs/Cu7S4 NPs/rGO nanocomposites were used as the positive electrode together with active carbon as the negative electrode for the fabrication of an asymmetric supercapacitor device, which exhibited a maximum energy density of 22 W h kg-1 as well as a power density up to 595 W kg-1 with capacitance retention of 77% after 5000 cycles. Furthermore, ZnS NWs/Cu7S4 NPs/rGO nanocomposites exhibited superior photocatalytic activity under ultraviolet and visible light irradiation because of the high surface area, small interface transfer resistance and efficient separation of photogenerated electrons and holes caused by the synergistic effect between ZnS NWs, Cu7S4 NPs and rGO.

Abstract:We report a facile solvothermal synthesis of reduced graphene oxide/Zn0.8Cd0.2S (GZCS) hybrid nanomaterial as a photocatalyst, in which Zn0.8Cd0.2S nanoparticles were homogeneously distributed on the surface of reduced graphene oxide (RGO), showing a good visible light response. The photocatalytic activities for as-prepared GZCS were evaluated by the degradation of methylene blue (MB) in aqueous solution under visible light irradiation. The results showed that the GZCS had higher photocatalytic activity than pure Zn0.8Cd0.2S. The GZCS with 5wt% RGO content exhibited the highest photodegradation efficiency of MB (96%), which was 2.7 times of pure Zn0.8Cd0.2S. And it also showed high photocatalytic stability.

Abstract:We successfully synthesized mesoporous ZnxCd1-xS/reduced graphene oxide (Z(x)CSG) hybrid materials as photocatalysts using a facile one-pot hydrothermal reaction, in which graphene oxide (GO) was easily reduced (RGO), and simultaneously ZnxCd1-xS (Z(x)CS) nanoparticles (NPs) with a mesoporous structure were uniformly dispersed on the RGO sheets. By well tuning the band gap from 3.42 to 2.21 eV by changing the molar ratio of Zn/Cd (or Zn content), Z(x)CSG with an optimal zinc content has been found to have a significant absorption in the visible light (VL) region. In addition, under VL irradiation (lambda > 420 nm), Z(x)CSG also showed zinc content-dependent photocatalytic efficiencies for the degradation of methylene blue (MB). Our findings are that, among Z(x)CSG, Z(0.4)CSG displayed not only a superior photodegradation efficiency of MB (98%), but also good removal efficiency of total organic carbon (TOC) (67%). Furthermore, ZoACSG had a high photocatalytic stability, and could be used repeatedly. The enhanced photocatalytic activity for Z(0.4)CSG could be attributed to a synergistic effect between mesoporous Z(x)CS NPs and RGO, including the optimal band gap and the moderate conduction band position for Z(x)CS (compared to CdS), efficient separation and transfer ability of photogenerated electron/hole pairs in the presence of RGO sheets, and relatively high surface area for both mesoporous Z(x)CS NPs and RGO.

Abstract:Cadmium sulfide (CdS) is a vital wide-bandgap semiconductor that plays an important role in many fields. In this study, we grew CdS quantum dots on graphene oxide (GO) sheets using a novel chemical bath deposition approach. Highly reduced graphene oxide-CdS (rGO-CdS) nanocomposites were successfully obtained. H2S/N-2 gas played a key role in the preparation of these nanocomposites, as it provided a source of S and reduced the GO. The size distribution and crystal structure of the CdS quantum dots and the reduction degree of GO in the rGO-CdS nanocomposites were investigated using various characterization techniques and the results showed that the GO was successfully reduced. Furthermore, CdS quantum dots (approximately 5-6 nm in size) with a hexagonal wurtzite structure were uniformly distributed on the rGO layers. The pollutant degradation performances of the rGO-CdS nanocomposites under visible light were studied, and the degradation mechanism was analyzed in detail. (c) 2020 Elsevier B.V. Rationally Designed Plasmonic Hybrid Coupling Structure of Ag/rGO-ZnO for Enhanced Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction

Abstract:In this work, a plasmonic hybrid coupling-enhanced photocatalyst of Ag/rGO (reduced graphene oxide)-ZnO, integrating superior activity, lasting stability, and low cost all-in-one, is proposed to settle limitations related to narrow photoresponse range and high charge recombination on ZnO. Graphene oxide nanoflakes were successfully composited with ZnO nanorods using the self-assembly method, then modified with Ag nanoparticles. UV-vis absorption spectra, photoelectrochemical characterizations and the finite difference time domain simulations show that this nanocomposite has enhanced catalytic activity for reducing CO2 to CO and CH4 compared to pure ZnO (P-ZnO). By tuning the content of graphene and Ag, the maximum photocatalytic efficiency of Ag/rGO-ZnO (62.7 mu mol g(-1) h(-1)) far exceeds that of P-ZnO by at least 28 times, with high stability for more than 24 h in the absence of hole scavengers and photosensitizers. Meanwhile, with the addition of Ag and graphene, Ag/rGO-ZnO exhibits a selective tendency toward the cleaner fuel-CH4, which is 7 times higher than P-ZnO. Our study highlights the potential of broadening the light response range, suppressing e(-)/h(+) recombination, and improving the stability of catalysts based on a nanocomposite structure. It also provides a more valuable reference for promoting low-cost commercial applications of ZnO photocatalysts. (C) 2021 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Inspired by natural photosynthesis, the Z-scheme photocatalyst is a promising approach to extend the absorption spectra of photocatalysts and reduce the recombination of photo-generated electrons and holes. However, the fabrication of well-structured efficient multi-component Z-scheme photocatalysts is still a big challenge. We report here a facile one-pot method to synthesize graphene-based Z-scheme photocatalysts. The one-pot method guarantees good distribution of well-structured individual components on thin-layered rGO sheets with excellent connections. With inactive WO3 nanorods and inactive β-In2S3 nanosheets attached to the surface of the rGO sheets, the synthesized In2S3/WO3/rGO tertiary nanocomposite shows excellent visible-light catalytic activity for hydrogen production at 1524 μmol g(-1) h(-1), demonstrating unambiguously the Z-scheme catalytic mechanism. To prevent cross-reactions and interferences, our strategy was to choose no more than one ionic precipitation reaction for the one-pot process, as unwanted cross-reactions could become inevitable if many cations and anions were present. This fabrication strategy should be applicable generally to synthesize other multiple-component nanocomposites, as demonstrated also by the preliminary results of the successful synthesis of the BiVO4/WO3/rGO nanocomposite (one ionic precipitation reaction and one hydrolysis reaction) and WO3/TiO2/rGO nanocomposite (two hydrolysis reactions).
Rational construction of ZnO/CuS heterostructures-modified PVDF nanofiber photocatalysts with enhanced photocatalytic activity

Abstract:PVDF/ZnO/CuS photocatalysts with ZnO/CuS heterojunctions were synthesized via electrospinning, hydrothermal, and ion-exchange techniques. As matrix materials, electrospun PVDF nanofibers are easy to be recycled and reused. ZnO nanorods anchored on PVDF nanofiber with high specific surface area provide abundant active reaction sites for photocatalysis. While the loaded CuS nanoparticles as a photosensitizer compensate the low quantum efficiency of ZnO and improve the visible-light photocatalytic efficiency. As a result, the PVDF/ZnO/CuS composited photocatalyst exhibits outstanding photocatalytic performance in exposure to UV and visible light owing to the suppressed recombination of electron–hole pairs and widened visible light absorption range. The kinetic constants of PVDF/ZnO/CuS nanocomposites under UV irradiation (9.01 × 10 −3 min −1 ) and visible light (6.53 × 10 −3 min −1 ) irradiation were 3.66 and 2.53 times higher than that of PVDF/ZnO (2.46 × 10 −3 min −1 & 2.58 × 10 −3 min −1 ), respectively. Furthermore, PVDF/ZnO/CuS nanocomposites demonstrate excellent robustness in terms of recycling and reuse, which is advantageous in practical applications.

Abstract:The Z-scheme g-C3N4/CdS@rGO photocatalyst with a staggered structure which enhances the photoreduction of CO2 under UV-Vis light irradiation. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) image shows that g-C3N4/CdS@rGO has unique lamellar staggered structure. Photoelectrochemical characterizations including Fluorescence lifetime (FL), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Photoluminescence (PL), and Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV) explain that the lamellar staggered structure effectively improves the separation and transport capabilities of electrons. Electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy and energy band position analysis prove that the electron transfer path of g-C3N4/CdS conforms to the Z-scheme mechanism. The π-π conjugation effect of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and g-C3N4 effectively promotes the excitation of electrons on g-C3N4, and rGO can reduce the photocorrosion of CdS and improve its stability. Then, the lamellar staggered structure which improves the photocatalytic CO2 reduction ability is discussed in detail, and the possible process of the CO2 reduction reaction was explored by in-situ FT-IR.

Abstract:ZnO is an excellent semiconductor material for photocatalytic application. To overcome the photocorrosion of ZnO and improve its stability, nanorods (NRs) structured ZnO is prepared by an environment-friendly solid state synthesis method, and the composite of ZnO with different mass ratio of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) are obtained via a hydrothermal reaction. According to the photocatalytic results, 5% RGO composited with ZnO NRs degrades the methylene orange solution completely (98%) in 50 min under UV light irradiation, whereas bare ZnO NRs just degrade 40.9%. The transient photocurrent responses and electronical impedance spectroscopy tests are carried out to illustrate the mechanism of RGO in the nanocomposite for the enhancement of the photocatalytic performance. This composite of ZnO/RGO has demonstrated a great potential for high efficient and stable photocatalytic application.

A synergistic effect between ZnO/CdS S-scheme heterojunction and GO cocatalyst for boosting photocatalytic performance

Abstract:ZnO nanosheets, 2D/1D ZnO/CdS hybrid and ternary ZnO/CdS/GO S-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst were fabricated by a low-temperature hydrothermal technique. As expected, by investigating the degradation efficiency of rhodamine B under simulated sunlight, with the assistance of CdS and GO, the ternary heterostructure showed superior photocatalytic activity. The test results display that the dye degradation rate constant of ZnO/CdS/GO is about 1.75 × 10−2 min−1, which is 3.6 times higher than that of bare ZnO. SEM results prove the finding that the content of CdS can regulate the size and distribution of ZnO NSs, increasing the specific surface area of the sample. Besides, the results of ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) absorbance spectra revealed that the addition of CdS and GO significantly synergistically increased the visible light absorption of ZnO, and also shortened the band gap of ZnO. Photoluminescence (PL) spectra, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and transient photocurrent response (TPR) results show that the presence of CdS and GO synergistically promotes the rapid separation of photoexcited carriers in ZnO. Notably, the GO also further speeds up the transmission rate of electrons and improves the photoelectric stability of the ZnO/CdS heterogeneous photocatalyst. The above changes can effectively promote the photocatalytic performance of photocatalysts. Moreover, a reasonable S-scheme carriers migration mechanism was proposed with the assistance of Mott-Schottky (MS) test, VB-XPS and sacrificial agent experiments. Through comprehensive analysis and discussion, it can be concluded that ZnO/CdS S-scheme heterojunction and GO synergistically promote the photocatalytic performance of ZnO. Therefore, this thesis may provide a deeper insight into developing the practical application of ZnO-based heterojunction photocatalysts in pollutant degradation.

Abstract:Without using any templates or surfactants, hierarchical ZnS-In2S3-CuS nanospheres with nanoporous structure are successfully synthesized via a simple and convenient process. The nanospheres are aggregations of densely packed nanoparticles and nanorods. Different to the oriented attachment (OA) mechanism reported in the literature, the formation of these nanorods is believed to follow a lateral OA mechanism (nanoparticles attach along the direction perpendicular to the crystallographic axes with lateral planes as the juncture) based on the experimental data. This process could be a general phenomenon and would provide a new insight into the OA mechanism. A detailed time-resolved TEM kinetic study of the formation of the complex structure is shown. The dipole mechanism and electric field-induced growth are found to be responsible for the final architecture. Photocatalytic activities for water splitting are investigated under visible-light irradiation (lambda>400 nm) and an especially high photocatalytic activity (apparent yield of 22.6% at 420 nm) is achieved by unloaded ZnIn0.25Cu0.02S1.395 prepared at 180 degrees C for 18 h because of their high crystallinity, large pore volume, and the presence of nanorods with special microstructures.

Abstract:Nanohybrid of Zinc tungstate (ZnWO4) nanoparticles and chemically reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheets was synthesized with a “green”, ionic-liquid assisted hydrothermal process. The prepared RGO–ZnWO4s have been thoroughly characterized by spectroscopic and thermogravimetric analysis. Based on transmission electron microscopic study, RGO does not change the structure and morphology of the ZnWO4 photocatalyst, while its visible light photoactivity toward degradation of dye pollutants is greatly improved. The enhancement of photocatalytic activity is attributed to the high separation efficiency of photoinduced electron–hole pairs in RGO–ZnWO4.

Abstract:Bandgap narrowed Zr-doped graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) catalysts with different Zr doping concentrations were synthesized through a pyrolysis approach. It was observed that Zr-doped g-C3N4 catalysts possessed worm-like mesostructures with higher specific surface area. Characterization results implied that a high-performance g-C3N4 photocatalyst can be synthesized with combining narrowed bandgap, reduced recombination rate of photogenerated electron–hole pairs and enlarged specific surface area by means of direct Zr doping modification.

Abstract:Ternary Cu2SnS3 (CTS) and Cu2SnSe3 (CTSe) quantum dots were grown in-situ on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets by a facile one-pot colloidal synthesis. Possessing abundant active sites and having the ability to harvest solar energy and to facilitate charge separation, the CTS(e)/rGO 0D/2D nanocomposites showed remarkably enhanced photocatalytic activities for degradation of rhodamine B and methyl orange aqueous solutions upon visible light irradiation. The nanocomposites of rGO supported monodispersed quantum dots were proved to be a suitable platform for photocatalytic applications due to the well-maintained 0D/2D nanostructure.

Abstract:Z-scheme g-C3N4/Ag3VO4/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) photocatalysts with multi-interfacial electron-transfer paths enhancing CO2 photoreduction under UV–vis light irradiation were successfully prepared by a hydrothermal process. Transmission electron microscope images displayed that the prepared photocatalysts have a unique 2D–0D–2D ternary sandwich structure. Photoelectrochemical characterizations including TPR, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, photoluminescence, and linear sweep voltammetry explained that the multi-interfacial structure effectively improved the separation and transmission capabilities of photogenerated carriers. Electron spin resonance spectroscopy and band position analysis proved that the electron-transfer mode of g-C3N4/Ag3VO4 meets the Z-scheme mechanism. The introduction of rGO provided more electron-transfer paths for the photocatalysts and enhanced the stability of Ag-based semiconductors. In addition, the π–π conjugation effect between g-C3N4 and rGO further improved the generation and separation efficiency of photogenerated electron–hole pairs.
