Abstract:A theory of Poincaré series is developed for Lobachevsky space of arbitrary dimension. For a general non-uniform lattice a Selberg-Kloosterman zeta function is introduced. It has meromorphic continuation to the plane with poles at the corresponding automorphic spectrum. When the lattice is a unit group of a rational quadratic form, the Selberg-Kloosterman zeta function is computed explicitly in terms of exponential sums. In this way a non-trivial Ramanujan-like bound analogous to “Selberg’s 3/16 bound” is proved in general.

Abstract:We introduce a family of posets which generate Lie poset subalgebras of $A_{n-1}=\mathfrak{sl}(n)$ whose index can be realized topologically. In particular, if $\mathcal{P}$ is such a \textit{toral poset}, then it has a simplicial realization which is homotopic to a wedge sum of $d$ one-spheres, where $d$ is the index of the corresponding type-A Lie poset algebra $\mathfrak{g}_A(\mathcal{P})$. Moreover, when $\mathfrak{g}_A(\mathcal{P})$ is Frobenius, its spectrum is \textit{binary}; that is, consists of an equal number of 0's and 1's. We also find that all Frobenius, type-A Lie poset algebras corresponding to a poset whose largest totally ordered subset is of cardinality at most three have a binary spectrum.

Abstract:Assuming Stanley's P-partitions conjecture holds, the regular Schur labeled skew shape posets are precisely the finite posets P with underlying set such that the P-partition generating function is symmetric and the set of linear extensions of P, denoted , is a left weak Bruhat interval in the symmetric group . We describe the permutations in in terms of reading words of standard Young tableaux when P is a regular Schur labeled skew shape poset, and classify 's up to descent-preserving isomorphism as P ranges over regular Schur labeled skew shape posets. The results obtained are then applied to classify the -Hecke modules associated with regular Schur labeled skew shape posets P up to isomorphism. Then we characterize regular Schur labeled skew shape posets as the finite posets P whose linear extensions form a dual plactic-closed subset of . Using this characterization, we construct distinguished filtrations of with respect to the Schur basis when P is a regular Schur labeled skew shape poset. Further issues concerned with the classification and decomposition of the -Hecke modules are also discussed.

Abstract:We present two classes of level Eulerian posets. Both classes contain intervals of rank k+1 whose cd-index is the sum over all cd-monomials w of degree k and the coefficient of the monomial w is r to the power of the number of d's in w. We also show that the order complexes of every interval in the first class are homeomorphic to spheres.

Abstract:Let $k$ be a local field of characteristic zero. Rankin-Selberg's local zeta integrals produce linear functionals on generic irreducible admissible smooth representations of $GL_n(k)\times GL_r(k)$, with certain invariance properties. We show that up to scalar multiplication, these linear functionals are determined by the invariance properties.

Abstract:In this paper, we explore combinatorial properties of the posets associated with Kohnert polynomials. In particular, we determine a sufficient condition guaranteeing when such ``Kohnert posets'' are bounded and two necessary conditions for when they are ranked. Moreover, we apply the aforementioned conditions to find complete characterizations of when Kohnert posets are bounded and when they are ranked in special cases, including those associated with Demazure characters.

Abstract:We call a poset factorable if its characteristic polynomial has all positive integer roots. Inspired by inductive and divisional freeness of a central hyperplane arrangement, we introduce and study the notion of inductive posets and their superclass of divisional posets. It then motivates us to define the so-called inductive and divisional abelian (Lie group) arrangements, whose posets of layers serve as the main examples of our posets. Our first main result is that every divisional poset is factorable. Our second main result shows that the class of inductive posets contains strictly supersolvable posets, the notion recently introduced due to Bibby and Delucchi (2022). This result can be regarded as an extension of a classical result due to Jambu and Terao (1984), which asserts that every supersolvable hyperplane arrangement is inductively free. Our third main result is an application to toric arrangements, which states that the toric arrangement defined by an arbitrary ideal of a root system of type $A$, $B$ or $C$ with respect to the root lattice is inductive.

Two classes of posets with real-rooted chain polynomials

Abstract:The coefficients of the chain polynomial of a finite poset enumerate chains in the poset by their number of elements. It has been a challenging open problem to determine which posets have real-rooted chain polynomials. Two new classes of posets, namely those of all rank-selected subposets of Cohen-Macaulay simplicial posets and all noncrossing partition lattices associated to finite Coxeter groups, are shown to have this property. The first result generalizes one of Brenti and Welker. As a special case, the descent enumerator of permutations of the set $\{1, 2,\dots,n\}$ which have ascents at specified positions is shown to be real-rooted, hence log-concave and unimodal, and a good estimate for the location of the peak is deduced.

$L^p$-spectral theory for the Laplacian on forms

Abstract:In this article, we find sufficient conditions on an open Riemannian manifold so that a Weyl criterion holds for the $L^p$-spectrum of the Laplacian on $k$-forms, and also prove the decomposition of the $L^p$-spectrum depending on the order of the forms. We then show that the resolvent set of an operator such as the Laplacian on $L^p$ lies outside a parabola whenever the volume of the manifold has an exponential volume growth rate, removing the requirement on the manifold to be of bounded geometry. We conclude by providing a detailed description of the $L^p$ spectrum of the Laplacian on $k$-forms over hyperbolic space.

The $L^p$-spectrum of the Laplacian on forms over warped products and Kleinian groups

Abstract:In this article, we generalize the set of manifolds over which the $L^p$-spectrum of the Laplacian on $k$-forms depends on $p$. We will consider the case of manifolds that are warped products at infinity and certain quotients of Hyperbolic space. In the case of warped products at infinity we prove that the $L^p$-spectrum of the Laplacian on $k$-forms contains a parabolic region which depends on $k$, $p$ and the limiting curvature $a_0$ at infinity. For $M=\mathbb{H}^{N+1}/\Gamma $ with $\Gamma$ a geometrically finite group such that $M$ has infinite volume and no cusps, we prove that the $L^p$-spectrum of the Laplacian on $k$-forms is a exactly a parabolic region together with a set of isolated eigenvalues on the real line.

Abstract:We study the p-independence of spectra of Laplace operators on graphs arising from regular Dirichlet forms on discrete spaces. Here, a sufficient criterion is given solely by a uniform subexponential growth condition. Moreover, under a mild assumption on the measure we show a one-sided spectral inclusion without any further assumptions. We study applications to normalized Laplacians including symmetries of the spectrum and a characterization for positivity of the Cheeger constant. Furthermore, we consider Laplacians on planar tessellations for which we relate the spectral p-independence to assumptions on the curvature.

Abstract:Macaulay posets are posets in which an analog of the Kruskal-Katona Theorem holds. Macaulay rings (also called Macaulay-Lex rings) are rings in which an analog of Macaulay's Theorem for lex ideals holds. The study of both of these objects started with Macaulay almost a century ago. Since then, these two branches have developed separately over the past century, with the last link being the Clements-Lindström Theorem. For every ring that is the quotient of a polynomial ring by a homogeneous ideal we define the poset of monomials. Under certain conditions, we prove a Macaulay Correspondence Theorem, a ring is Macaulay if and only if its poset of monomials is Macaulay. Furthermore, the tensor product of rings corresponds to the Cartesian product of the posets of monomials. This allows us to transfer results between rings and posets. By using this translation, we give several answers to a problem posed by Mermin and Peeva, a positive answer to Hoefel's question about applying Macaulay poset theory to ring theory, and deduce several other results in algebra and combinatorics. A new proof of the Mermin-Murai Theorem on colored square free rings is presented by using star posets. We extend the Mermin-Murai Theorem to rings that are not square free. Using a result from Mermin and Peeva we give an answer to a question posed by Bezrukov and Leck. Some results of Chong also give answers to the Bezrukov-Leck problem. All of these results have a common feature. They involve the tensor product of rings whose Hasse graphs of the poset of monomials are trees. We call such rings, tree rings. We give a classification of Macaulay rings that are the tensor product of a tree ring. Finally, we show that there are Macaulay rings that are not the tensor product of tree rings, and present the first examples of Macaulay rings that are not quotients by a monomial ideal and not quotients by a toric ideal.

Tree Posets: Supersaturation, Enumeration, and Randomness

Abstract:We develop a powerful tool for embedding any tree poset $P$ of height $k$ in the Boolean lattice which allows us to solve several open problems in the area. We show that: * If $\mathcal{F}$ is a family in $\mathcal{B}_n$ with $|\mathcal{F}|\ge (q-1+\varepsilon){n\choose \lfloor n/2\rfloor}$ for some $q\ge k$, then $\mathcal{F}$ contains on the order of as many induced copies of $P$ as is contained in the $q$ middle layers of the Boolean lattice. This generalizes results of Bukh and Boehnlein and Jiang which guaranteed a single such copy in non-induced and induced settings respectively. * The number of induced $P$-free families of $\mathcal{B}_n$ is $2^{(k-1+o(1)){n\choose \lfloor n/2\rfloor}}$, strengthening recent independent work of Balogh, Garcia, Wigal who obtained the same bounds in the non-induced setting. * The largest induced $P$-free subset of a $p$-random subset of $\mathcal{B}_n$ for $p\gg n^{-1}$ has size at most $(k-1+o(1))p{n\choose \lfloor n/2\rfloor}$, generalizing previous work of Balogh, Mycroft, and Treglown and of Collares and Morris for the case when $P$ is a chain. All three results are asymptotically tight and give affirmative answers to general conjectures of Gerbner, Nagy, Patkós, and Vizer in the case of tree posets.

Abstract:Duchamp--Hivert--Thibon introduced the construction of a right $H_n(0)$-module, denoted as $M_P$, for any partial order $P$ on the set $[n]$. This module is defined by specifying a suitable action of $H_n(0)$ on the set of linear extensions of $P$. In this paper, we refer to this module as the poset module associated with $P$. Firstly, we show that $\bigoplus_{n \ge 0} G_0(\mathscr{P}(n))$ has a Hopf algebra structure that is isomorphic to the Hopf algebra of quasisymmetric functions, where $\mathscr{P}(n)$ is the full subcategory of $\textbf{mod-}H_n(0)$ whose objects are direct sums of finitely many isomorphic copies of poset modules and $G_0(\mathscr{P}(n))$ is the Grothendieck group of $\mathscr{P}(n)$. We also demonstrate how (anti-)automorphism twists interact with these modules, the induction product and restrictions. Secondly, we investigate the (type 1) quasisymmetric power sum expansion of some quasi-analogues $Y_\alpha$ of Schur functions, where $\alpha$ is a composition. We show that they can be expressed as the sum of the $P$-partition generating functions of specific posets, which allows us to utilize the result established by Liu--Weselcouch. Additionally, we provide a new algorithm for obtaining these posets. Using these findings, for the dual immaculate function and the extended Schur function, we express the coefficients appearing in the quasisymmetric power sum expansions in terms of border strip tableaux.

On Spectral Inclusion Sets and Computing the Spectra and Pseudospectra of Bounded Linear Operators

Abstract:In this paper we derive novel families of inclusion sets for the spectrum and pseudospectrum of large classes of bounded linear operators, and establish convergence of particular sequences of these inclusion sets to the spectrum or pseudospectrum, as appropriate. Our results apply, in particular, to bounded linear operators on a separable Hilbert space that, with respect to some orthonormal basis, have a representation as a bi-infinite matrix that is banded or band-dominated. More generally, our results apply in cases where the matrix entries themselves are bounded linear operators on some Banach space. In the scalar matrix entry case we show that our methods, given the input information we assume, lead to a sequence of approximations to the spectrum, each element of which can be computed in finitely many arithmetic operations, so that, with our assumed inputs, the problem of determining the spectrum of a band-dominated operator has solvability complexity index one, in the sense of Ben-Artzi et al. (C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris, Ser. I 353 (2015), 931-936). As a concrete and substantial application, we apply our methods to the determination of the spectra of non-self-adjoint bi-infinite tridiagonal matrices that are pseudoergodic in the sense of Davies (Commun. Math. Phys. 216 (2001) 687-704).

The Poincaré-extended ab-index

Abstract:Motivated by a conjecture concerning Igusa local zeta functions for intersection posets of hyperplane arrangements, we introduce and study the Poincaré-extended ab-index, which generalizes both the ab-index and the Poincaré polynomial. For posets admitting R-labelings, we give a combinatorial description of the coefficients of the extended ab-index, proving their nonnegativity. In the case of intersection posets of hyperplane arrangements, we prove the above conjecture of the second author and Voll as well as another conjecture of the second author and Kühne. We also define the pullback ab-index generalizing the cd-index of face posets for oriented matroids. Our results recover, generalize and unify results from Billera-Ehrenborg-Readdy, Bergeron-Mykytiuk-Sottile-van Willigenburg, Saliola-Thomas, and Ehrenborg. This connection allows us to translate our results into the language of quasisymmetric functions, and-in the special case of symmetric functions-make a conjecture about Schur positivity. A proof of this conjecture now appears an appendix by Ricky Ini Liu.

Abstract:Signed graphs have appeared in a broad variety of applications, ranging from social networks to biological networks, from distributed control and computation to power systems. In this article, we investigate spectral properties of signed Laplacians for undirected signed graphs. We find conditions on the negative weights under which a signed Laplacian is positive semidefinite via the Kron reduction and multiport network theory. For signed Laplacians that are indefinite, we characterize their inertias with the same framework. Furthermore, we build connections between signed Laplacians, generalized $M$-matrices, and eventually exponentially positive matrices.

Quotients of Special Classes of Positroids

Abstract:In this paper, we give a complete characterization of rank $k-1$ positroids that are quotients of the uniform matroid $U_{k,n}$, completing a partial result by Bendetti-Chavez-Jiménez. Furthermore, we show that any pair of concordant positroids with adjacent ranks are related by a cyclic shift on their decorated permutations. We also use the concept of conecklaces to give a full characterization of concordant lattice path matroids (LPMs).

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we study the homotopy type of the partially ordered set of left cosets of abelian subgroups in an extraspecial p -group. We prove that the universal cover of its nerve is homotopy equivalent to a wedge of r -spheres where 2 ⁢ r ≥ 4 {2r\geq 4} is the rank of its Frattini quotient. This determines the homotopy type of the universal cover of the classifying space of transitionally commutative bundles as introduced in [2].
