Abstract:While gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are the most common primary mesenchymal tumors of the stomach, the management of small (<2 cm) incidental GIST remains controversial. Especially for young patients, a minimally invasive resection could be preferable to serial surveillance multiple endoscopic procedures. Conventional techniques such as endoscopic mucosal resection and endoscopic submucosal dissection may result in microscopically positive margins, tumor spillage from a full thickness resection, and a risk of perforation. Endoscopic submucosal resection with a ligation device (ESMR-L) is a novel technique for rectal submucosal lesions; however, its role for gastric subepithelial lesion has not been established. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of ESMR-L for resection of small GIST.
