Abstract:Artificial Z-scheme system inspired by the natural photosynthesis in green plants has attracted extensive attention owing to its advantages such as simultaneously wide range light absorption, highly efficient charge separation and strong redox ability. In this paper, we report the synthesis of a novel all-solidstate direct Z-scheme photocatalyst of Ag3PO4/CeO2/TiO2 by depositing Ag3PO4 nanoparticles (NPs) on CeO2/TiO2 hierarchical branched nanowires (BNWs), where the CeO2/TiO2 BNWs act as a novel substrate for the well dispersed nano-size Ag3PO4. The Ag3PO4/CeO2/TiO2 photocatalyst exhibits excellent ability of photocatalytic oxygen evolution from pure water splitting. It is suggested that the Z-scheme charge transfer route between CeO2/TiO2 and Ag3PO4 improves the redox ability. On the other hand, the cascade energy level alignment in CeO2/TiO2 BNWs expedites the spatial charge separation, and hence suppresses photocatalytic backward reaction. However, it is difficult to realize a perfect excitation balance in Ag3PO4/CeO2/TiO2 and the composite still surfers photo-corrosion in photocatalysis reaction. Nevertheless, our results provide an innovative strategy of constructing a Z-scheme system from a type-II heterostructure and a highly efficient oxygen evolution catalyst. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:In a typical Z-scheme photocatalytic system, the visible light responsive component typically plays a crucial role and is often confined to materials sensitive to visible light. In addition, metallic nanodots or quantum dots are used as effective cocatalysts in the construction of plasmonic Z-scheme photocatalysts because of their strong light harvesting capacities under visible light illumination. In the present study, Bi4Ti3O12 nanosheets dominated with (001) crystal planes were successfully prepared via a facile molten-salt method, and BTO/Ag/APO composite samples were prepared by a simple precipitation method followed by photoreduction. The obtained BTO/Ag/APO composite exhibits improved photocatalytic activity for the decontamination of two typical organic pollutants, compared to bare Bi4Ti3O12 and Ag3PO4. Based on various characterization techniques, a Z-scheme electron transfer mechanism induced by the plasmonic effect was hypothesized to clarify the enhanced catalytic performances in this system. On the other hand, the LSPR effect of deposited silver nanoparticles can boost the molecular oxygen activation process and generate more superoxide radicals. This study provides a promising approach to apply highly effective photocatalytic degradation for environmental remediation.
In Situ Synthesized MoS2/Ag Dots/ag3po4 Z-scheme Photocatalysts with Ultrahigh Activity for Oxygen Evolution under Visible Light Irradiation

Abstract:MoS2/Ag3PO4 heterojunction photocatalysts have attracted great attention in dye degradation and water oxidation, in which Z-scheme plays a critical role in the catalytic performance as a result of energy band structure alignment between MoS2 and Ag3PO4. Creating metal sites at composite interfaces as recombination centers of photo-generated electrons from conduction band (CB) of Ag3PO4 and holes from valence band (VB) of MoS2 is an effective strategy to enhance the charge separation efficiency and photocatalytic performance. Strong coupled MoS2/Ag dots/Ag3PO4 ternary heterojunction photocatalysts were fabricated by one-pot precipitation method, in which highly dispersed Ag dots are located at the MoS2/Ag3PO4 interfaces and MoS2 is bonded with PO(4)(3-)in the form of Mo-O-P. The fabricated MoS2/Ag dots/Ag3PO4 photocatalyst presents a 2.8-fold enhancement of photocatalytic activity of water oxidation compared to that of pristine Ag3PO4, which is achieved for the first time. The great enhancement of photocatalytic performance can be ascribed to the improved Z scheme mechanism with strongly coupled MoS2/Ag dots/Ag3PO4 ternary interfaces, in which highly dispersed Ag dots serve as efficient recombination centers resulting in the improved separation of photo-generated holes and electrons of Ag3PO4 as well as photocatalytic activity of oxygen evolution. High-Efficient Visible-Light Photocatalysis Performance and Light-Corrosion Resistance of Ag3PO4 Constructed by Double-Z System Composites

Abstract:Novel visible-light-driven Ag3PO4/AgBr/AgI photocatalysts were prepared via a simple self-assembly strategy combined with in-situ anion-exchanging process. The photocatalytic activity of Ag3PO4 was significantly improved by constructing double-Z system. Specifically, the obtained materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). Under visible light irradiation (λ > 420 nm), the Ag3PO4/AgBr/AgI photocatalysts showed much higher photocatalytic activity than bulk Ag3PO4 for the degradation of formaldehyde (HCHO), and 100% HCHO degradation could be obtained within 28 min. The degradation efficiency could be maintained in five cycles. Further electron paramagnetic resonance (ESR) tests demonstrated that both •OH and •O2− generated in the system. This study provides new insights into the fabrication of highly efficient visible-light-driven photocatalysts and facilitates their practical application in emerging environment issues.
Enormous Enhancement in Photocatalytic Performance of Ag3po4/Hap Composite: A Z-Scheme Mechanism Insight

Abstract:For the first time, the Ag3PO4/HAp composite catalysts were synthesized through a facile in-situ ion exchange method and carefully studied by various techniques including XRD, BET, SEM & TEM, DRS, ICP, XPS, ESR, and photocurrent measurements. It was found that the well dispersed small Ag3PO4 particles were loaded on the HAp support, and the surface area was slightly increased after the ion exchange process. Importantly, the coupling of the Ag3PO4 and HAp significantly enhanced the separation efficiency of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs and then promoted the activity for the photodegradation of RhB or 4-CP under visible light irradiation. What is more, the effect of calcination temperature of the HAp support on the catalytic performance was also discussed. It is interesting to find that the apparent rate constant of Ag3PO4/HAp-773 composite photocatalyst was 0.21 min(-1), which was 10 times higher than that of pristine Ag3PO4. The radical trapping experiments revealed that the introduction of HAp transformed the photocatalytic mechanism, which was obviously different from that of pure Ag3PO4. The enormous enhancement in catalytic performance may be attributed to the vacancy of HAp that resulted from the alternation in electronic state of surface PO4 group under irradiation. Ultimately, a possible Z-scheme mechanism for the efficient Ag3PO4/HAp composite was proposed. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Constructing heterojunctions to address effective charge separation and transformation is one of the crucial paths to increasing photocatalytic properties. Here, a novel ternary heterojunction photocatalyst Ag/Ag3PO4/Bi2O2CO3 was synthesized by conventional hydrothermal and chemical precipitation tactics and analyzed with PXRD, SEM, TEM, and XPS respectively. The consequences of the analysis demonstrated that nanoparticles Ag/Ag3PO4 were attached to the surface of the Bi2O2CO3 self-assembled formative nanoflowers. Precursors such as prepared Ag/Ag3PO4/Bi2O2CO3 demonstrated high-efficiency photocatalytic performance and were more reusable than the precursor Ag/Ag3PO4 and Bi2O2CO3 by visible-light-induced methylene blue (MB) photodegradation. The raised photocatalytic property may contribute to the synergistic influence between forming Ag/Ag3PO4/Bi2O2CO3 heterojunction and local surface plasma-resonance effect caused by the Ag precious metal promoting photogenerated charge carries separation efficiency, hindering the electron-hole pair recombination. Moreover, quenching experiments and ESR tests showed that hydroxyl and superoxide radicals played an important role in photodegradation. Finally, a potential photocatalytic mechanism of the Ag/Ag3PO4/Bi2O2CO3 for the electron/hole transfer procedure was proposed.
Facet-dependent Photocatalytic H2O2 Production of Single Phase Ag3PO4 and Z-scheme Ag/ZnFe2O4-Ag-Ag3PO4 Composites

Abstract:With high surface energy leading to high photocatalytic activity, there have been significant interests in maintaining high surface energy for photocatalyst by controlling the exposed facet. To demonstrate the effect of exposed facet on the performance of composite photocatalyst and understand the corresponding mechanism, we prepared ZnFe2O4 and Ag3PO4 with {111}, {110}, {100}, and mixed exposed facets, and constructed corresponding Z-scheme Ag/ZnFe2O4-Ag-Ag3PO4 heterojunctions using a photo-assisted isoelectric point method. The {111} facet of Ag3PO4, which has higher surface activity, better separation efficiency of photogenerated e- and h+, and higher energy and activity of photogenerated electrons, exhibited the highest activity in photocatalytic H2O2 production under simulated sunlight (146.1 mu mol/L in the presence of 10 vol% methanol as a hole sacrificial agent by 120 min). The H2O2 production efficiency was significantly improved for the Z-scheme Ag/ ZnFe2O4-Ag-Ag3PO4 composites (up to 206.3 mu mol/L in the presence of 10 vol% methanol by 120 min for the one with the {111} facet of Ag3PO4 exposed). The band potentials of ZnFe2O4 and Ag3PO4 were suitable for forming Z-scheme heterostructure, while the recombination of photogenerated e- and h+ was effectively inhibited with the Ag introduced as a conductive channel and co-catalyst in the composite photocatalysts. Photocatalytic H2O2 production in the presence of Ag3PO4 occurred through the direct two-electron oxygen reduction reaction, while that in the presence of Z-scheme Ag/ZnFe2O4-Ag-Ag3PO4 involved sequential two-step single-electron oxygen reduction reaction. The insights obtained in this work could help guide the design and development of highly active composite photocatalysts through crystal facet engineering.
Construction of an all-solid-state Z-scheme Ag@Ag3PO4/TiO2-(F2) heterostructure with enhanced photocatalytic activity, photocorrosion resistance and mechanism insight

Abstract:Photocatalysis is still a promising technology to alleviate the antibiotic residual problem of wastewater in the ecological environment. Herein, an all-solid-state Z-scheme Ag@Ag3PO4/TiO2-(F2) (TFAP) heterojunction photocatalyst was constructed using the hydrothermal method for the first time. The photocatalytic performance of TFAP nanocomposites for tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) degradation was evaluated under simulated sunlight. The prepared materials were characterized by XRD, FE-SEM, TEM, BET, FT-IR, UVvis DRS, XPS, PL, and ESR measurements. The TFAP nanocomposites showed high degradation efficiency and excellent repeatability to TCH destruction. Among them, the (TFAP 1–1) nanocomposite has a lower bandgap energy (1.80 eV), a larger specific surface area (53.48 m2/g), and a lower electron-hole recombination rate. After 2.5 h of simulated sunlight irradiation, the degradation rate of the 200 mg/L (TFAP 1–1) nanocomposite (k = 0.0154 min−1) to 10 mg/L TCH reached 94.14%, which was much higher than that of the pure TiO2, TiOF2, and Ag3PO4 samples. The experimental results demonstrated that TiO2 was generated as an intermediate product during the chemical reaction process between Ag3PO4 and TiOF2. Additionally, Ag nanoparticles were formed in the Ag3PO4/TiO2/TiOF2 heterojunction system. An electric field was formed between Ag3PO4 and Ag, enhancing the visible light absorption ability. Because of the Schottky potential difference, the electrons accumulate in Ag nanoparticles, thus enhancing the photocorrosion resistance of Ag3PO4. Additionally, the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect of Ag nanoparticles greatly promoted the separation of carriers at the interface of the heterojunction. The LSPR effect leads to the co-oscillation of free electrons, which leads to the strong absorption of electromagnetic energy and enhances the photocatalytic performance of the heterojunction. The Ag@Ag3PO4 nanocomposites acted as electron transport media for an all-solid-state Z-scheme TFAP heterojunction system. This study provides some in-depth insights into the structural design of Z-scheme heterojunctions, which have certain implications for other catalytic systems.

Abstract:Ag3PO4 nanoparticles are often considered to be a fascinating and efficient visible photocatalyst because of its high quantum efficiency and excellent activity of O2 generation from water oxidation. However, the photo-corroded phenomenon and stability during the photocatalytic process reduce the photocatalytic activity. To overcome these disadvantages, strategies of combining Ag3PO4 with two-dimensional materials have been put forward to improve its stability and photocatalytic properties under visible-light irradiation. In this work, a novel Z-scheme Ag3PO4/graphdiyne/g-C3N4 nanocomposite was constructed via a simple electrostatic and π-π stacking interaction for the first time. Significantly, such Z-scheme nanostructures show highly oxygen evolution, and 753.1 μmol g−1 h−1 of O2 was produced with Ag3PO4/graphdiyne/g-C3N4, which was 12.2 times higher than that of Ag3PO4 nanoparticles. Graphdiyne with π-conjugated structure of sp- and sp2-hybridized carbon atoms, can not only act as conductive electron mediator bridges to collect photogenerated electrons and boost the O2 evolution kinetics, but also used as a promising substrate for stabilizing Ag3PO4 in the composite.
AgxH3-xPMo12O40/Ag Nanorods/g-C3n4 1D/2D Z-scheme Heterojunction for Highly Efficient Visible-Light Photocatalysis

Abstract:Reasonably designing Z-scheme photocatalysts has been deemed to be an ideal and prospective way to develop new and highly efficient photocatalytic materials for removing environmental pollutants. Herein, a new type of AgxH3-xPMo12O40/Ag nanorods/g-C3N4 1D/2D Z-scheme photocatalyst (abbr. APM/C3N4) was fabricated by a simple self-assembly procedure. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images revealed that the 1D silver polyoxometalate (POM) nanorods loaded with Ag nanoparticles (AgxH3-xPMo12O40/Ag = APM) were well dispersed on the plicated 2D g-C3N4 nanosheets. Photocatalytic experiments demonstrated that these composite catalysts exhibited an excellent and durable photocatalytic performance for the degradation of methyl orange (MO) and tetracycline (TC) and the photoreduction of Cr(vi) under visible light, which was significantly higher than that of the individual components and most of the previous reported materials. The photocatalytic mechanism suggests that superoxide and holes are the main active species in MO photodegradation, demonstrating its Z-scheme photocatalytic process. The synergistic effects of the enhanced light absorption, unique 1D/2D hybrid heterojunction structure, good and efficient interfacial contact and Z-scheme process endowed the as-prepared APM/C3N4 composites with excellent performance. This study may provide a new comprehension into the design of polyoxometalate-based Z-scheme hybrid materials for photocatalytic applications in the removal of organic and inorganic pollutants from wastewater.
S-scheme SrTiO3/porous ZnO Derived by Pyrolysis of ZIF-8 Composite with Efficient Photocatalytic Activity for Pollutant Degradation

Abstract:Semiconductor catalyst with high photocatalytic activity can be exploited via heterojunction. In this study, a new S-scheme SrTiO3/porous ZnO composite was rationally devised, successfully prepared by utilizing a two-step pyrolysis of SrTiO3/ZIF-8, and analyzed by various characterization technologies including XRD, SEM, TEM, BET, XPS, PL, UV-vis DRS, and photoelectrochemical and DFT theoretical calculations. A porous structure, tight contact, and a heterojunction formed between SrTiO3 and porous ZnO (ZnOT) can be observed by SEM and TEM images. BET testing indicates that the SrTiO3/porous ZnO composite (S3ZT) shows the highest specific surface area (30.37 m(2)/g). The band gap values (Eg) of SrTiO3 and ZnOT are around 3.17 and 2.95 eV, which agree with those obtained from DFT calculations. Compared to other samples, the SrTiO3/porous ZnO composite (S3ZT) shows higher light absorption and lower transfer resistance as demonstrated by UV-vis DRS and EIS results. S3ZT presents a superior photocatalytic efficiency of 48.8% in degrading 5 mg/L methyl orange (MO) irradiated by 1 h UV-vis light, which are 7-and 1.5-fold higher than pristine SrTiO3 and ZnOT, respectively. Moreover, based on Mott-Schottky theory, active species trapping experiments, XPS determination, and DFT calculations (energy band gap and work function), it was shown to be reasonable to utilize the S-scheme charge migration process for an explanation regarding the better photocatalytic activity of SrTiO3/porous ZnO composite. Overall, this work will provide an effective protocol for devising and preparing semiconductor photocatalysts with S-scheme heterojunction by utilizing the superior characteristics of MOFs. Ag3PO4-anchored La2Ti2O7 nanorod as a Z-Scheme heterostructure composite with boosted photogenerated carrier separation and enhanced photocatalytic performance under natural sunlight

Abstract:Developing wide spectra-responsive photocatalysts has attracted considerable attention in the photocatalytic technology to achieve excellent catalytic activity. Ag3PO4, with strong response to light spectra shorter than 530 nm, shows extremely outstanding photocatalytic oxidation ability. Unfortunately, the photocorrosion of Ag3PO4 is still the biggest obstacle to its application. Herein, the La2Ti2O7 nanorod was used to anchor Ag3PO4 nanoparticles in this study, and a novel Z-Scheme La2Ti2O7/Ag3PO4 heterostructure composite was constructed. Remarkably, the composite showed strong responsive to most of the spectra in natural sunlight. The Ag0 formed in-situ acted as the recombination center of photogenerated carriers, which promoted their efficient separation and contributed to the improved photocatalytic performance of the heterostructure. When the mass ratio of Ag3PO4 in the La2Ti2O7/Ag3PO4 catalyst was 50%, the degradation rate constant of Rhodamine B (RhB), methyl orange (MO), chloroquine phosphate (CQ), tetracycline (TC), and phenol under natural sunlight irradiation were 0.5923, 0.4463, 0.1399, 0.0493, and 0.0096 min−1, respectively. Furthermore, the photocorrosion of the composite was greatly inhibited, 76.49% of CQ and 83.96% of RhB were still degraded after four cycles. Besides, the holes and O2•− played a significant role in RhB degradation, and it included multiple mechanisms of deethylation, deamination, decarboxylation, and cleavage of ring-structures. Moreover, the treated solution can also show safety to the water receiving environment. Overall, the synthesized Z-Scheme La2Ti2O7/Ag3PO4 composite exhibited immense potential for removing various organic pollutants through photocatalytic technology under natural sunlight irradiation.

Abstract:Maintaining the high photocatalytic activity and stability of Ag3PO4 in practical applications is a still a major challenge. In this study, a series of Ag3PO4@polypyrrole (PPy) core-shell structure photocatalysts were prepared successfully by facile in-situ oxidative polymerization. A transmission electron microscopy image of the composite showed that the PPy shell with a thickness of 5–10 nm was coated tightly on the surface of the Ag3PO4 particle core. X-ray diffractometer and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses demonstrated that the silver ions were reduced to metallic Ag during polymerization. Ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance spectra indicated that the light response range of PA-5 broadened from 300 to 630 nm. Compared with pure Ag3PO4, the composites exhibited higher photocatalytic activities and better photostability, especially Ag3PO4@PPy with a PPy content of 5 wt% (PA-5). The degradation rate of PA-5 with organic dyes exceeded 98% within 15 min under visible light irradiation. Even after five repeated reactions, PA-5 still maintained a high degradation rate of 94.98%. The degradation rate of the pure Ag3PO4 decreased significantly from 94.53% to 60.33% after five cycles. Construction of ZnCo2O4/Ag3PO4 composite photocatalyst for enhanced photocatalytic performance

Abstract:In this study, ZnCo2O4 was prepared by a microwave‐assisted process, and then ZnCo2O4 was loaded onto Ag3PO4 by in‐situ chemical precipitation method to obtain a composite photocatalyst. The catalytic activity and cycle stability were evaluated under visible light, and the catalytic reaction mechanism was proposed. In this study, ZnCo2O4/Ag3PO4 composite catalyst was prepared by the precipitation method, and their performance in the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO) was studied. The catalysts were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, selected area electron diffraction, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and UV‐Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The results indicate that the 0.1 ZnCo2O4/Ag3PO4 composite system has good photocatalytic activity in the degradation of methyl orange. Under simulated sunlight conditions, the degradation rate can reach 94% after 30 min. The maximum reaction rate constant of 0.1 ZnCo2O4/Ag3PO4 was 0.05301 min−1, which is 3 times and 52 times the rate constant of pure Ag3PO4 and pure ZnCo2O4, respectively. In catalyst recycling experiments, 0.1 ZnCo2O4/Ag3PO4 still degraded methyl orange at a rate of 84.4% after three cycles. Trapping experiments showed that holes and superoxide radicals mostly contributed to the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange by the catalyst, while hydroxyl radicals played a partial role. The energy level structure of ZnCo2O4/Ag3PO4 is conducive to the effective separation of photogenerated electrons and holes, improving the lifespan of photogenerated charges. In the investigated catalyst series, 0.1 ZnCo2O4/Ag3PO4 demonstrated the best photocatalytic performance.

Abstract:In this paper, a new supramolecular Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst, designated as Ag/Ag3PO4/Perylene diimide organic molecules after secondary acid-base self-assembly (PDI-2), was synthesized through precipitation and photoreduction techniques. Ag/Ag3PO4/60 %PDI-2 (APP-6) exhibited the best photocatalytic activity due to the synergistic effect of Z-scheme heterojunction and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs). Under visible light (λ > 420 nm), the degradation efficiency of APP-6 for Rhodamine B (RhB) and Bisphenol A (BPA) was 99.7 % and 90.7 %, respectively. Additionally, PDI-2 was transformed into smaller nanoclusters, which increased the specific surface area of the photocatalyst, and reduced the charge transport distance. Moreover, APP-6 exhibited the smallest electrochemical impedance, the largest photocurrent, the smallest fluorescence lifetime. Free radical trapping experiments showed that •O2− was the main reactive group and a possible photocatalytic mechanism was proposed by combining the Ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance spectrophotometer (UV–vis DRS) and the Mott-Schottky plots.
In situ fabrication of Z-scheme C3N4/Ti3C2/CdS for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen peroxide production

Abstract:Photocatalysis is a potential technology to produce hydrogen peroxide with low energy consumption and no pollution. However, when using traditional photocatalysts it is hard to meet the requirements of wide visible light absorption, high carrier separation rate and sufficient active sites. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has great potential in the photocatalytic production of hydrogen peroxide, but its photocatalytic performance is limited by a high carrier recombination ratio. Here, we fabricated the Z-Scheme heterojunction of C3N4/Ti3C2/CdS in situ. The large specific surface area of C3N4 can provide plenty of reactive sites, and the absorption efficiency under visible light is improved with the addition of Ti3C2 and CdS. The better conductivity of Ti3C2 reduces the charge transfer resistance. With the increase of surface charge carriers, the width of the space charge region decreases and the photocurrent density increases significantly. Under visible light irradiation, the H2O2 yield of the ternary photocatalyst reaches 256 μM L-1 h-1, which is about 6 times that of pristine C3N4. After three cycles, the high photocatalytic efficiency can still be maintained. In this paper, the reaction mechanism of photocatalytic hydrogen peroxide production by the C3N4/Ti3C2/CdS composite material is proposed through an in-depth study of energy band theory, which provides a new reference for the design and preparation of high-performance materials for photocatalytic hydrogen peroxide production.
A Novel Z-scheme Ag3VO4/BiVO4 Heterojunction Photocatalyst: Study on the Excellent Photocatalytic Performance and Photocatalytic Mechanism

Abstract:A novel three-dimensional microspheres mediator-free Z-scheme Ag3VO(4)/BiVO4 heterojunction photocatalyst was successfully obtained for the first time. The photocatalytic performance of the as-prepared photocatalyst was systematically examined via the photocatalytic reduction of Cr6+ and oxidation of Bisphenol S under visible light irradiation. Among these samples, 0.24-Ag3VO(4)/BiVO4 exhibits the highest photocatalytic performances, the photocatalytic reduction and oxidation efficiency of 74.9 and 94.8%, respectively, can be achieved. The enhanced photocatalytic performance is attributed to the build-in electric field assisted charge transfer between the Ag3VO(4) and BiVO4, and the increasing lifetime of the charge carrier confirmed by the results of time-resolved fluorescence spectra and photoelectrochemical measures. Moreover, based on the results of free radical scavenging activity test, and EPR experiments, it has been verified that the Ag3VO(4)/BiVO4 heterostructures follow a typical Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism rather than conventional type-II heterojunction charge transfer mechanism. Furthermore, the theoretical understanding of the underlying mechanism was also supported, while the energy band structure, and Fermi level were systematically calculated using the density functional theory approach. The results show that a built-in electric field directed from Ag3VO(4) to BiVO4 surface was established as an equalized Fermi level was reached, which benefits the separation of photogenerated charge carriers in the way of a Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism. The strategy to form the three-dimensional microspheres Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst may offer new insight into the Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism for applications in the field of solar energy conversion.
Facile Synthesis of Z-Scheme Ag3PO4/Sulfur-Doped G-C3n4 Heterojunction Hybrids with Enhanced Visible Light Photocatalytic Performance

Abstract:Ag₃PO₄/sulfur-doped g-C₃N₄ heterojunctions were fabricated by the means of a facile calcination and co-precipitation method. Structural characterization suggested that Ag₃PO₄ was successfully loaded onto sulfur-doped g-C₃N₄. The absorption band edges of sulfur-doped g-C₃N₄ were shifted to the longer wavelength in comparison with bulk g-C₃N₄. The Ag₃PO₄/sulfur-doped g-C₃N₄ heterojunctions manifested substantially higher visible-light photocatalytic performance as compared with Ag₃PO₄/bulk g-C₃N₄. Photoluminescence spectra suggested that the stable Ag₃PO₄/SGCN heterojunctions could effectively address the electron-hole recombination rate, together with remarkably enhancing the photocatalytic activity. The enhancement of light absorption and better dispersion in Ag₃PO₄/sulfur-doped g-C₃N₄ provide more migration channels, together with posing crucial responsibility for the enhanced photocatalytic performance.

Abstract:Accelerating the separation and transfer of photoinduced charge carriers is crucial for designing photocatalysts with superior photocatalytic hydrogen evolution (PHE) activity. Herein, a novel rectangular tubular hierarchical NiS/ZnIn2S4/AgIn(WO4)(2) heterostructure was established by in-situ growing ZnIn2S4 nanosheets on the surface of tubular AgIn(WO4)(2) and NiS nanoparticles (NPs) further deposited as co-catalysts for the first time. Based on the experimental and theoretical calculation results, the fabrication of ZnIn2S4/AgIn(WO4)(2) S-scheme heterojunction as well as NiS NPs as active centers could account for the fast photogenerated charge carriers transfer and enhanced PHE activity. Notably, under simulated sunlight irradiation, the optimal NiS/ZnIn2S4/AgIn(WO4)(2) composite exhibited a high PHE rate of 4818 mu mol.g(-1).h(-1) without adding any noble-metal co-catalyst, which was about 24 and 3.7 times higher than that of pure AgIn(WO4)(2) and ZnIn2S4, respectively. Meanwhile, the rate was up to 83 % of the value of ZnIn2S4/AgIn(WO4)(2) with 3 wt% platinum (Pt) as co-catalyst, which meant that NiS NPs could replace Pt as an efficient noble-metal-free co-catalyst. This work provided a feasible approach to utilize the synergistic effect between co-catalyst and heterojunction for constructing efficient photocatalytic systems, and further confirmed the potential application of AgIn(WO4)(2) with the special tubular morphology for PHE reaction.

Abstract:By constructing heterojunctions through the conjugation of semiconductors with narrow bandgaps and improving absorption capability in the visible light region based on the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of noble metals, the highly efficient photocatalytic performance of ZnO-based composites can be achieved. In this paper, Ag/Ag 2 O@Bi 2 MoO 6 /ZnO composites were prepared by a hydrothermal synthesis method combined with photo-deposition technique. Compared with ZnO, the composites exhibit a significant red shift and enhancement of visible light absorption. The results of photoluminescence tests and electrochemical experiments show that the synergistic effect of the heterostructure formed by Bi 2 MoO 6 and ZnO in composite materials, the sensitization effect of Ag 2 O, and the SPR effect of Ag result in an accelerated photo-response speed of electrons in the composite material, and the multi-pathway charge transfer channels suppress the recombination of electrons and holes, thereby enhancing photocatalytic activity. In the multi-mode photocatalytic degradation experiments, the degradation efficiency of crystal violet (CV) by Ag/Ag 2 O@Bi 2 MoO 6 /ZnO is higher than that of other comparative systems. Meanwhile, the hydrogen production of Ag/Ag 2 O@Bi 2 MoO 6 /ZnO (t = 8 h) is 13 times higher than that of commercially available TiO 2 in the experiment of photocatalytic water splitting for hydrogen production. Combined with the results of the capture experiments and the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis, it is speculated that the photocatalytic reaction mechanism of Ag/Ag 2 O@Bi 2 MoO 6 /ZnO under the irradiation of different light sources is more inclined to the action of the single/double Z-scheme, which provides a new idea for the development of novel and efficient photocatalytic material.
