Abstract:Objectives:To study the expression of MUC1 in different subtype acute leukemia(AL) and the relationship between expression of MUC1 and clinical effects for AL,and offer theoretical basic for MUCl gene as a molecular biologic marker of detecting MRD and estimating the prognosis in AL.Methods:To test the expression of MUC1 in 292 AL cases at initial and CR stage by RT-PCR,and study the relationship between relapse and expression of MUC1 when it turned into positive although negtive already.Results:Expression of MUC1 gene were positive in 156 of all 292(53.4%) AL patients.Among 215 AML,123(57.2%) were positive,and the rate was 42.9% in Ml,50% in M2,46.4% in M3,75% in M4,73.9% in M5,33.3% in M6.30 of 69(43.5%)ALL and 3 of 8(37.5%)AMLL patients were positive;112(71.8%) cases got CR of 156 positive patients,and 125(91.9%)got CR of 136 passive patients.The difference was significant.MUC1 gene turned into passive in 56 AML and 17 ALL of 112 positive patients when they got CR.Among them,5 AML and 6 ALL returned into positive following.9 cases survived free relapse after Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation,and 2 cases relapsed soon who without transplantation.Conclusions:Expression of MUC1 gene is high in AML patients,especially M4 and M5.MUC1-passive AL patients have better therapeutic efficacy than positive cases.The expression of MUC1 gene can be used as a tool of detecting minimal residual disease and diagnosing the early relapse before clinical relapse.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To explore the expression and clinical significance of ID1 gene in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients.METHOD:Real-time quantitative PCR (RQ-PCR) was used to test the expression level of ID1 gene in 114 de novo adult AML patients, and the clinical features of these patients were analyzed.RESULTS:ID1 gene transcript levels were detectable in BM mononuclear cells from 114 patients with AML, the median expression level of all samples was 8525 (range: 57 - 11 233 238). There was a statistically significant difference on expression level of ID1 gene among the three different cytogenetic prognosis groups, and the poor prognosis group (median: 36 840, range: 336 - 11 233 238) harbored the significantly higher level of ID1 gene than the intermediate prognosis group (Median: 6630, range: 66 - 1 840 798) (P = 0.006). The expression level of ID1 gene was positively associated with older age (age ≥ 60 years vs < 60 years, P = 0.002) and higher WBC count (WBC ≥ 10×10(9)/L vs < 10×10(9)/L, P = 0.005). Young patients (age < 60 years) who were not obtained the complete remission (non-CR) after the first cycle of chemotherapy harbored the high level of ID1 gene (Median: 9537 of non-CR vs 1268 of CR, P = 0.010).CONCLUSIONS:High expression level of ID1 gene was mostly seen in AML patients with adverse cytogenetics and older age (age ≥ 60 years), and may be associated with poor prognosis of AML. ID1 gene might be a prognostic molecular marker of AML.
Prognostic Impact of MYH9 Expression on Patients with Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Abstract:MYH9 expression has previously been demonstrated as an independent predictor of clinical outcome in solid tumors. However, the prognostic relevance of MYH9 expression in acute myeloid leukemia is still unclear. Here, we found high MYH9 expressers were seen more frequently in females and more frequently in M4 morphology. We also found high MYH9 expressers had lower percentage of bone marrow blasts. In addition, overexpression of MYH9 was associated with an inferior overall survival. Notably, distinct microRNA signatures were seen in high MYH9 expressers. These results were also validated in an independent cohort of AML patients using the published data. In conclusion, gene of MYH9 expression might serve as a reliable predictor for overall survival in AML patients.
Expression Characteristics and Prognosissignificance of Mirna-181A in Acute Myeloid Leukemia with Normal Karyotype

Abstract:Objective: To study the expression of miRNA-181a in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients with normal karyotype to probe its prognosis significance. Methods: The expression level of miRNA-181a in bone marrow mononuclear cells of 120 de novo AML patients with normal karyotype was detected by real time fluorescence quantitative PCR. The direct sequencing method was used to detect IDH1, IDH2, NPM1, FLT3-ITD, DNMT3A and CEBPα mutations in CN-AML patients after PCR. The relationship between miRNA-181a expression and gene mutation, the clinical parameters and prognosis were analyzed. Results: The rates of overall surviva1 (OS) in high expression and low expression groups were 25.0 months and 15.0 months, respectively (P<0.05) . Relapse free survival (RFS) in high expression and low expression groups were 21.4 months and 11.2 months, respectively (P<0.05) . Significantly higher level hemoglobin, complete remission rate and proportion of wild type NPM1 expression in the high expression of miRNA-181a group were observed when compared with the lower expression of miRNA-181a group (P<0.05) . Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed miRNA-181a overexpression was an independent prognostic factor for CN-AML (HR=2.219, 95%CI 1.601~2.432, P=0.018) . Conclusion: Higher expression of miRNA-181a was a good prognostic factor independent of clinical parameters and high frequency gene mutations, which implicated that the miRNA-181a expression level could be used as an important prognostic indicator of AML patients with normal karyotype.

Abstract:Mucin 1 (MUC1) gene is expressed in various tumors, and overexpressed in acute leukemia. This study was to evaluate the expression of MUC1 gene and multidrug-resistance protein-1 (MDR1) gene in non-M3 subtype acute leukemia and their correlations to clinical treatment efficacy.The expression of MUC1 and MDR1 genes were measured in 34 patients with non-M3 subtype acute leukemia by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR); their correlations to clinical treatment efficacy were observed.The positive rate of MUC1 gene in the 34 patients was 50.0%, and the positive rate of MDR1 gene was 29.4%. The positive rate of MDR1 was significantly higher in MUC1-positive patients than in MUC1-negative patients (52.9% vs. 5.9%, P=0.003). Complete remission (CR) rate was significantly higher in MUC1-negative patients than in MUC1-positive patients (94.1% vs. 52.9%, P<0.01). CR rate was significantly higher in MDR1-negative patients than in MDR1-positive patients (91.7% vs. 50.0%, P<0.05). In 9 patients with positive expression of both MUC1 and MDR1, the CR rate was 55.6%; while in 16 patients with negative expression of both MUC1 and MDR1, the CR rate was 100%.The non-M3 subtype acute leukemia patients with positive expression of MUC1 have high positive rate of MDR1. The patients with negative expression of both MUC1 and MDR1 have high CR. Co-detection of MUC1 gene and MDR1 gene can predict treatment efficacy on non-M3 subtype acute leukemia.

Abstract:Huntingtin interacting protein 1 (HIP1) is an endocytic protein which is overexpressed in a variety of human cancers and involved in cancer-causing translocation in leukemia. However, the prognostic impact of HIP1 expression on AML remains unclear. In this study, quantification of HIP1 transcript by real-time quantitative PCR in bone marrow blasts was performed in 270 AML patients. As a result, high HIP1 expression was seen more frequently in older patients, M4/M5 morphology and genes of NPM1 and DNMT3A mutations, and underrepresented in favorable karyotype subgroups and CEBPA double allele mutations in our AML patients. We also found high HIP1 expressers showed lower levels of hemoglobin. In addition, overexpression of HIP1 was associated with an inferior overall survival. The prognostic value of HIP1 expression was validated in patients from an independent TCGA cohort. Notably, up-regulation of miR-16, miR-15a, miR-28 and miR-660 were seen in high HIP1 expressers from the two independent cohorts. In vitro, interfereing of HIP1 expression by siRNA suppressed the proliferation of leukemic cells, and downregulation of these miRNAs were seen in THP-1 and Kasumi cell lines after silencing HIP1 expression. In conclusion, the HIP1 gene expression might serve as a reliable predictor for overall survival in AML patients.
Integrated Bioinformatics Analysis and Clinical Validation Reveals That High Expression of Mucin 1 in Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma Predicts Recurrence after Curative Resection.

Abstract:Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is a cancer type with high malignancy and a current lack of biomarkers to predict recurrence. In the present study, to identify potential biomarkers, five ICC datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus database were analyzed to construct initial datasets by using a robust rank aggregation approach. A total of 19 upregulated genes were identified in the initial datasets. The genes identified were then further analysed using data from The Cancer Genome Atlas. Only mucin 1 (MUC1) exhibited significance regarding differential expression and survival prediction. Finally, the expression levels of MUC1 were assessed using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR in 61 pairs of ICC tumor and matched non-cancerous samples. The expression of MUC1 was significantly elevated in ICC tissues compared with that in matched non-cancerous counterparts (P=0.001). Patients with high MUC1 expression levels had significantly shorter overall survival (OS, P=0.009) and recurrence-free survival (RFS, P=0.012). MUC1 was identified as an independent prognostic factor for OS [hazard ratio (HR)=2.364, 95%CI: 1.214-4.485; P=0.023] and RFS (HR=2.552 95%CI: 1.294-5.032; P=0.007) in the multivariate analysis. Using receiver operating characteristic analysis, a co-index including MUC1 had a high accuracy for predicting survival [MUC1 combined with serum levels of CEA and cancer antigen 19-9, and lymph node metastasis, area under curve (AUC)=0.746, 95%CI: 0.620-0.872] and recurrence (MUC1 combined with bile duct invasion and lymph node metastasis, AUC=0.729, 95%CI: 0.605-854). In conclusion, MUC1 is highly expressed in ICC tissue and is a potential prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for ICC.

Abstract:Background: MicroRNAs are of special interest in cancer research and hold significant promise as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for malignant disease. MiR-362-5p have been found to exert both oncogenic and tumor suppressive effects depending highly on the cellular context. The aim of this study was to determine whether the expression of miR-362-5p can be served as a prognostic factor for patients with cytogentically normal acute myeloid leukemia (CN-AML). Methods: We enrolled 224 patients with CN-AML and measured the expression of miR-362-5p by quantitative real time PCR analysis. We classified patients into high and low expression based on the median value. The Cox regression analyses were carried out to assess the prognostic significance of miR-362-5p expression in the context of the wellestablished predictors. Additionally, microRNA expression profiling were conducted to identify the biological insights between high and low group. Results: High expressers had older age. High expressers obtained shorter overall survival in the univariate analysis. The independent prognostic value of miR-362-5p remained in the context of the well-established clinical and cytogenetic predictors. Moreover, the prognostic value of miR-362-5p was also validated in an independent cohort of CN-AML. Notably, numerous oncomiRs were also high expressed in high miR-362-5p group. Conclusion: High miR-362-5p expression was associated with poorer overall survival implicating the oncogenic function in AML development.
High Expression of TET1 Predicts Poor Survival in Cytogenetically Normal Acute Myeloid Leukemia from Two Cohorts.

Abstract:Ten-Eleven-Translocation 1 (TET1) plays a role in the DNA methylation process and gene activation. Recent reports suggest TET1 acts as an oncogene in leukemia development. However, the clinical relevance and biological insight of TET1 expression in cytogenetically normal acute myeloid leukemia (CN-AML) is unknown. In this study, quantification of TET1 transcript by real-time quantitative PCR in bone marrow blasts was performed in 360 CN-AML patients. As a result, high TET1 expression was more common in M0/M1 morphology and genes of NPM1 mutations, and underrepresented in CEBPA double allele mutations in our AML patients. In addition, we found overexpression of TET1 was associated with an inferior overall survival and event free survival in the two independent cohorts. Notably, mRNA and miRNA integrative analyses showed aberrant expression of several hub oncogenes appear to be regulated by some miRNAs like miR-127-5p, miR-494, miR-21 and miR-616 in high TET1 expressers. In conclusion, the TET1 gene expression might serve as a reliable predictor for patients survival in AML.
High IDH1 Expression is Associated with a Poor Prognosis in Cytogenetically Normal Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Abstract:The prognostic value of IDH1 mutations has been systematically evaluated in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients recently. However, the role of IDH1 expression in AML is still under exploration. To investigate the clinical significance, we analyzed the IDH1/2 expression in 320 patients with cytogenetically normal AML (CN‐AML) by quantitative real‐time reverse‐transcription polymerase chain reaction. High expression of IDH1 was predominant in patients with FLT3‐ITD and DNMT3A mutations and less prevalent in cases with CEBPA double allele mutations. Strong association was observed between high IDH1 expression and low expression of microRNA 181 family. Prognosis was adversely affected by high IDH1 expression, with shorter overall survival and event‐free survival in the context of clinical characteristics, including age, WBC count, and gene mutations of NPM1, FLT3‐ITD, CEBPA, IDH1, IDH2 and DNMT3A in CN‐AML. Moreover, the clinical outcome of IDH1 expression in terms of overall survival, event‐free survival and complete remission rate still remained in multivariate models in CN‐AML. Importantly, the prognostic value was validated using the published microarray data from 79 adult patients treated according to the German AMLCG‐1999 protocol. Our results demonstrated that high IDH1 expression is associated with a poor prognosis of CN‐AML.
Expression of muc1 in breast cancer tissues and its clinical significance

Abstract:AIM: To investigate the expression of muc 1 in breast cancer tissues, and to explore its clinical significance. METHODS: The expression level of MUC1 was detected by a detailed immunohistochemical analysis in 86 samples of breast carcinoma and in 40 samples of benign tumor tissues. RESULTS: The positivity rate of MUC1 in breast cancer was 56%, much higher than that in breast benign tumors, which was 8% ( P ﹤0.01). There was no relationship between the expression of MUC1 and the pathological types ( P 0.05). In breast cancers with lymph node metastasis, the positivity rate of MUC1 was 65% and in breast cancers without metastasis, it was 44%. There was a significant difference between the two groups ( P 0.05) . CONCLUSION: The results suggest that the high expression of MUC1 in breast cancer may be significant for the diagnosis of breast carcinoma. The high expression levels of MUC1 may be a prognostic factor for the treatment of breast cancer.

Abstract:The goal of this study was to evaluate the expression of MUC1 in stage IB non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and its prognostic significance. The expression of MUC1 in 178 NSCLC specimens was evaluated via immunohistochemistry. A reproducible semiquantitative method which took both staining percentage and intensity into account was applied for immunohistochemical scoring, and receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was utilized to select the cut-off score for high or low MUC1 expression. Then, the correlations between MUC1 expression and clinicopathological features and its prognostic relevance were determined. In this study, high MUC1 expression was detected more frequently in adenocarcinomas (86.3%) and other NSCLCs (74.1%) than in squamous cell carcinomas (39.1%, P < 0.001). The Kaplan-Meier survival curves showed that up-regulated expression of MUC1 indicated poorer overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) (P = 0.011 and P = 0.008, respectively), especially for those with non-squamous cell carcinomas (P = 0.033 and P = 0.011, respectively). Multivariate analysis also confirmed that MUC1 expression was an independent prognostic factor for both OS and DFS in stage IB NSCLC (P = 0.008 and P = 0.004, respectively). MUC1 might be correlated with the histogenesis of lung adenocarcinoma, and its elevated expression may be an adverse prognostic indicator for the patients with stages IB NSCLC, particularly for those with non-squamous cell carcinomas.

Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between expression of muc-1 gene in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) tissues and lymph node metastasis and its clinical significance.Methods The expression of muc-1 gene in 36 specimens of NSCLC tissues and 10 normal lung tissues were determined by RT-PCR.Results muc-1 gene was positively expressed in 19 of 36 specimens of NSCLC tissues,the positive expression rate was 52.7%.The expression of muc-1 mRNA in NSCLC tissues was related to metastasis of lymph node(χ2 =6.733,P<0.05),not related to age,sex,histological types,pathological grades,TNM stages,tumour size of the patients(P>0.05).The positive expression rate of muc-1 gene was higher in NSCLC tissues with lymph node metastasis(N0 10%,N1 58.82%,N2 88.9%).Conclusion The lymph node metastasis rate in NSCLC patients with muc-1 gene positive expression is higher,the detection of muc-1 gene expression can guide the prognosis and therapy of NSCLC patients after operation.
Clinical Significance of MUC1 Mrna Expression in Peripheral Blood and Bone Marrow in Patients with Lung Cancer

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: To detect MUC1 mRNA expression in peripheral blood and bone marrow in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and to evaluate the clinical significance of MUC1 mRNA expression. METHODS: Nested RT-PCR was used to detect MUC1 mRNA expression in peripheral blood and bone marrow in 31 patients with NSCLC. RESULTS:Positive rates of MUC1 mRNA were 32.3%(10/31) in peripheral blood and 22.6%(7/31) in bone marrow in patients with NSCLC, and highly positive correlation between MUC1 expression in peripheral blood and in bone marrow was found. MUC1 expression was not found in 10 patients with benign pulmonary lesion and 8 normal adults. The MUC1 mRNA expressions in peripheral blood and in bone marrow were closely related to the pathological classification, cell differentiation of cancer and P-TNM stage of the disease,P0.05. CONCLUSIONS:MUC1 mRNA may be a valuable marker to detect DTC in patients with lung cancer. It can also provide important clinical information for the evaluation of prognosis and the selection of appropriate treatment strategies.

Abstract:Lung cancer is still the major contributor to cancer-related mortality. Over 85% of patients suffer from non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Mucins (MUCs) are large glycoproteins secreted or membrane-bound produced by epithelial cells in normal and malignant tissues. They are the major components of the mucous gel that covers the surface of the respiratory epithelium. Certain MUCs have been used or proposed to act as biomarkers for lung cancer. Nevertheless, the expression, messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) levels, and the prognostic value of MUCs in NSCLC are yet to be investigated systematically. In this research, the biological information of MUC proteins in patients with NSCLC was examined using a series of databases. The results based on gene expression profiling interactive analysis (GEPIA) illustrated that the expression of MUC3A, MUC4, MUC5B, MUC13, MUC16, and MUC21 mRNAs was remarkably upmodulated in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) patients, whereas the MUC1 expression was downregulated in lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) patients. Kaplan–Meier plotter (KM Plotter) analysis revealed that elevated mRNA expression levels of MUC3A and MUC16 were linked to unfavourable overall survival (OS) in NSCLC, while increased mRNA expression of MUC1 and MUC15 was linked to good OS, especially in LUAD patients. In addition, differential expression of MUC1, MUC3A/3B, MUC8, MUC12, MUC15, and MUC16 mRNA was linked to the prognoses of NSCLC patients with varied clinical-pathological subtypes. Genetic alterations of MUCs in NSCLC primarily involved mutations, fusion, amplification, deep deletion, and multiple alterations according to cancer genomics (cBioPortal). Therefore, we propose that combinations of MUC proteins can act as prognostic biomarkers and demonstrate the therapeutic potential for NSCLC-related therapy.
Clinical significance of MUC1 mRNA detection in bone marrow of breast cancer patients

Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To evaluate expression and clinical significance of the mucin1(MUC1)mRNA in bone marrow of breast cancer patients. METHODS: Expression of MUC1 mRNA was detected by the reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in the bone marrow aspiration from 75 breast cancer patients, with samples of 15 benign breast lesion and 8 healthy volunteers as control. The possible correlation of MUC1 mRNA expression with clinicopathologic parameters and related molecular markers were analyzed. RESULTS: The positive expression of MUC1 mRNA was detected by RT-PCR in 32 of 75 patients with breast cancer. The positive rate was 42.7%. MUC1 mRNA negative expression was found in the bone marrow aspiration of patients with benign breast lesion and healthy volunteers. The MUC1 mRNA expression was positively correlated with clinical stage, axillary nodal involvement and ER status, P<0.05, but was not related to age, tumor size and PR status,P>0.05. In addition, positive rate of MUC1 mRNA was not correlated with expressions of Ki67,VEGF and p53 in tissues of breast cancer. CONCLUSION: MUC1 mRNA may be used as a molecular marker to detect bone marrow micrometastasis (BMM) in patients with breast cancer. The results of detecting BMM may have an impact upon therapeutic recommendations and prognostic judgement in breast cancer patients.

Abstract:Mucin 1 (MUC1) was the first discovered transmembrane protein of the mucin family; it normally covers epithelial cells of the mucous membrane, providing lubrication and protection. However, aberrant expression of MUC1 is involved in cancer development, invasion and metastasis. It has been reported that MUC1 upregulation is highly associated with the progression of different epithelial cancer types, such as lung, liver, pancreatic and breast cancer. Therefore, MUC1 can be used as a specific marker and a target for immunotherapy in clinical applications, and the detection of MUC1 expression levels can be used to diagnose the occurrence, metastasis, prognosis and recurrence of cancer. The present review summarizes the abnormal expression of MUC1 in different tumours and discusses its clinical significance, thereby highlighting the potential diagnostic and therapeutic significance of MUC1 in cancer.

Strongly Positive Expression of MUC1 and Its Relationship with Prognosis in Different Immunophenotypes of Breast Cancer Tissues

Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical significance of strongly positive expression(+++) of mucin1(MUC1) for prognosis and individual treatment in different immunophenotypes of breast cancer.Methods Three hurdred and thirty-five cases of breast cancer were categorized as follows: ER+/PR+,HER2-;ER+/PR+,HER2+;ER-,PR-,HER2+ and ER-,PR-,HER2-subtype.The expression levels of ER,PR,HER2 and MUC1 were detected by mean of immunohistochemistry and the relationship between the strongly positive expression of MUC1 and prognosis of breast cancer was analyzed.Results The strongly positive rate of MUC1 in 335 cases was 46.3 %,5-year overall survival rates(OS) of patients with strongly positive expression of MUC1 was lower(P0.05).In 335 cases,ER+/PR+,HER2-subtype was 130,ER+/PR+,HER2+ subtype was 64,ER-,PR-,HER2+ subtype was 67 and ER-,PR-,HER2-subtype was 74.The strongly positive rate of MUC1 of four subtypes was 59.2%、56.3%、32.8% and 27.0%,respectively.The strongly positive rate of MUC1 has related to the immunophenotypes of breast cancer(P0.01).5-year overall survival rates(OS) of patients with strongly positive expression of MUC1 was lower in ER+/PR+,HER2-and ER-,PR-,HER2+ subtype(P0.05) by group analysis of prognosis.Conclusion The strongly positive expression of MUC1 was related to the immunophenotypes of breast cancer and played different role in prognosis of different immunophenotypes of breast cancer.The prognosis of patients with MUC1 strongly positive expression was poorer in ER+/PR+,HER2-and ER-,PR-,HER2+ subtype.

Abstract:AIM: To investigate the relation between MUC1 expression, distribution, and prognosis in hepatocellular and cholangiocarcinoma (HCC and CC) and cirrhotic liver tissues, and their significance in HCC and CC diagnosis. METHODS: Expression and distribution of MUC1 were examined by immunohistochemical assay with anti-MUC1 mAb in 59 samples of HCC and 37 samples of CC, 20 samples of cirrhotic liver tissues, and 10 samples of normal liver tissues, seeking possible associations between MUC1 positive expression, distribution in HCC and CC (primary liver cancer, PLC) cases and the studied clinical data. RESULTS: Immunohistochemical analysis of MUC1 expression showed that in the 96 PLC samples, 68 (70.8%) were strong positive, and 6 (6.2%) were weak positive. Only 4 in the 20 cirrhotic liver tissues were found to be weak positive, while no expression of MUC1 was detected in normal liver tissues. Apparently, the high expression rate of MUC1 in PLC tissues was statistically significant in comparison to that in cirrhotic and normal liver tissues. The expressed MUC1 protein, stained in dark brownish or brownish-yellow particles, chiefly localized on the cancer cell membranes or in cytoplasm. In the 68 strong positive samples, 40 were detected on cell membrane and the other 28 were in cytoplasm. In addition, follow-up studies of those PLC cases demonstrated that MUC1 expression on cell membrane or in cytoplasm was closely associated with PLC prognosis. The expression of MUC1 in PLC had little statistical significance in respect of the pathological types and sizes of the tumors, but a strong relationship regarding histological differentiation, metastasis of lymph nodes, portal canal emboli, and post-operational recurrence of the carcinomas. After 3 years of tumor excision, the metastasis rate in MUC1 positive expression group (67.6%) was much higher than that in MUC1 weak expression group (33.3%) and negative expression group (31.8%), and thus the survival rate in MUC1-positive expression group was significantly different from that in weak and negative expression groups. CONCLUSION: Expression and localization of MUC1 proteins in primary liver carcinomas (PLCs) may act as prognostic markers, and MUC1 molecules might be helpful in differential diagnosis.
