Abstract:This article pertains to the classification of pairs of simple random curves with conformal Markov property and symmetry. We give the complete classification of such curves: conformal Markov property and symmetry single out a two-parameter family of random curves—Hypergeometric SLE—denoted by $$\mathrm {hSLE}_{\kappa }(\nu )$$ for $$\kappa \in (0,4]$$ and $$\nu <\kappa -6$$. The proof relies crucially on Dubédat’s commutation relation (Commun Pure Appl Math 60(12):1792–1847, 2007) and a uniqueness result proved in Miller and Sheffield (Ann Probab 44(3):1647–1722, 2016). The classification indicates that hypergeometric SLE is the only possible scaling limit of the interfaces in critical lattice models (conjectured or proved to be conformally invariant) in topological rectangles with alternating boundary conditions. We also prove various properties of $$\mathrm {hSLE}_{\kappa }(\nu )$$ with $$\kappa \in (0,8)$$: continuity, reversibility, target-independence, and conditional law characterization. As by-products, we give two applications of these properties. The first one is about the critical Ising interfaces. We prove the convergence of the Ising interface in rectangles with alternating boundary conditions. This result was first proved by Izyurov (Commun Math Phys 337(1):225–252, 2015), and our proof is different. Our method is based on the properties of $$\mathrm {hSLE}$$ and is easy to generalize to more complicated boundary conditions and to other models. The second application is the existence of the so-called pure partition functions of multiple SLEs. Such existence was proved for $$\kappa \in (0,8){\setminus } {\mathbb {Q}}$$ in Kytölä and Peltola (Commun Math Phys 346(1):237–292, 2016), and it was later proved for $$\kappa \in (0,4]$$ in Peltola and Wu (Commun. Math. Phys. 366(2):469–536, 2019). We give a new proof of the existence for $$\kappa \in (0,6]$$ using the properties of $$\mathrm {hSLE}$$.

Abstract:In this paper, we solve a class of Neumann problems on a manifold with totally geodesic smooth boundary. As a consequence, we also solve the prescribing k-curvature problem of the modified Schouten tensor on such manifolds; that is, if the initial k-curvature of the modified Schouten tensor is positive for tau > n - 1 or negative for tau < 1, then there exists a conformal metric such that its k-curvature defined by the modified Schouten tensor equals some prescribed function and the boundary remains totally geodesic.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the problem of conformally deforming a metric to a prescribed kth order symmetric function of the eigenvalues of the Schouten tensor on compact Riemannian manifolds with totally geodesic boundary. We prove the solvability of the problem and the compactness of the solution set for the case k >= n/2, provided the conformal class admits a k-admissible metric. These results have been proved by Gursky and Viaclovsky, Trudinger and Wang for the manifolds without boundary, and by Jin et al. and S. Chen for the locally conformally flat manifolds with boundary.

As an application, we derive the asymptotic of the probability for the existence of two disjoint open paths in critical FK-Ising model.

Abstract:This article focuses on the characterization of global multiple Schramm-Loewner evolutions (SLE). The chordal SLE describes the scaling limit of a single interface in various critical lattice models with Dobrushin boundary conditions, and similarly, global multiple SLEs describe scaling limits of collections of interfaces in critical lattice models with alternating boundary conditions. In this article, we give a minimal amount of characterizing properties for the global multiple SLEs: we prove that there exists a unique probability measure on collections of pairwise disjoint continuous simple curves with a certain conditional law property. As a consequence, we obtain the convergence of multiple interfaces in the critical Ising, FK-Ising and percolation models.

Abstract:In this article, we give an explicit relationship of SLE partition functions with Coulomb gas formalism of conformal field theory. We first construct a family of SLE${}_\kappa$ partition functions as Coulomb gas integrals and derive their various properties. In accordance with an interpretation as probabilistic correlations in loop $O(n)$ models, they are always positive when $\kappa\in (8/3,8)$, while they may have zeroes for $\kappa\leq 8/3$. They also admit a Fröbenius series expansion that matches with the algebraic content from CFT. Moreover, we check that at the first level of fusion, they have logarithmic asymptotic behavior when $\kappa=8/3$ and $\kappa=8$, in accordance with logarithmic minimal models $M(2,1)$ and $M(2,3)$, respectively. Second, we construct SLE${}_\kappa$ pure partition functions and show that they are continuous in $\kappa\in (0,8)$ and they decay to zero as a polynomial of $(8-\kappa)$ when $\kappa\to 8$. We explicitly relate the Coulomb gas integrals and pure partition functions together in terms of the meander matrix. As a by-product, our results yield a construction of global non-simple multiple chordal SLE${}_\kappa$ measures ($\kappa \in (4,8)$) uniquely determined by their re-sampling property.

Abstract:SLE curves describe the scaling limit of interfaces from many 2D lattice models. Heuristically speaking, the SLE partition function is the continuum counterpart of the partition function of the corresponding discrete model. It is well known that conformally welding of Liouville quantum gravity (LQG) surfaces gives SLE curves as the interfaces. In this paper, we demonstrate in several settings how the SLE partition function arises from conformal welding of LQG surfaces. The common theme is that we conformally weld a collection of canonical LQG surfaces which produces a topological configuration with more than one conformal structure. Conditioning on the conformal moduli, the surface after welding is described by Liouville conformal field theory (LCFT), and the density of the random moduli contains the SLE partition function for the interfaces as a multiplicative factor. The settings we treat includes the multiple SLE for $\kappa\in (0,4)$, the flow lines of imaginary geometry on the disk with boundary marked points, and the boundary Green function. These results demonstrate an alternative approach to construct and study the SLE partition function, which complements the traditional method based on stochastic calculus and differential equation.

SLE and its partition function in multiply connected domains via the Gaussian Free Field and restriction measures

Abstract:One way to uniquely define Schramm-Loewner Evolution (SLE) in multiply connected domains is to use the restriction property. This gives an implicit definition of a $\sigma$-finite measure on curves; yet it is in general not clear how to construct such measures nor whether the mass of these measures, called the partition function, is finite. We provide an explicit construction of the such conformal restriction SLEs in multiply connected domains when $\kappa = 4$ using the Gaussian Free Field (GFF). In particular, both when the target points of the curve are on the same or on distinct boundary components, we show that there is a mixture of laws of level lines of GFFs that satisfies the restriction property. This allows us to give an expression for the partition function of $\mathrm{sle}_4$ on multiply connected domains and shows that the partition function is finite, answering the question raised in [Lawler, J. Stat. Phys. 2009]. In a second part, we provide a second construction of $\mathrm{sle}_\kappa$ in multiply-connected domains for the whole range $\kappa \in (8/3,4]$; specific, however, to the case of the two target points belonging to the same boundary components. This is inspired by [Werner, Wu, Electron. J. Probab. 2013] and consists of a mixture of laws on curves obtained by following $\mathrm{cle}_\kappa$ loops and restriction hulls attached to parts of the boundary of the domain. In this case as well, we obtain as a corollary the finiteness of the partition function for this type of $\mathrm{sle}_\kappa$.

Conformal welding of quantum disks and multiple SLE: the non-simple case

Abstract:Two-pointed quantum disks with a weight parameter $W>0$ is a canonical family of finite-volume random surfaces in Liouville quantum gravity. We extend the conformal welding of quantum disks in [AHS23] to the non-simple regime, and give a construction of the multiple SLE associated with any given link pattern for $\kappa\in(4,8)$. Our proof is based on connections between SLE and Liouville conformal field theory (LCFT), where we show that in the conformal welding of multiple forested quantum disks, the surface after welding can be described in terms of LCFT, and the random conformal moduli contains the SLE partition function for the interfaces as a multiplicative factor. As a corollary, for $\kappa\in(4,8)$, we prove the existence of the multiple SLE partition functions, which are smooth functions satisfying a system of PDEs and conformal covariance.

Reversibility of whole-plane SLE for $κ> 8$

Abstract:Whole-plane SLE$_\kappa$ is a random fractal curve between two points on the Riemann sphere. Zhan established for $\kappa \leq 4$ that whole-plane SLE$_\kappa$ is reversible, meaning invariant in law under conformal automorphisms swapping its endpoints. Miller and Sheffield extended this to $\kappa \leq 8$. We prove whole-plane SLE$_\kappa$ is reversible for $\kappa > 8$, resolving the final case and answering a conjecture of Viklund and Wang. Our argument depends on a novel mating-of-trees theorem of independent interest, where Liouville quantum gravity on the disk is decorated by an independent radial space-filling SLE curve.

Abstract:We prove that SLE$_\kappa$ for $\kappa \in (4,8)$ on an independent $\gamma=4/\sqrt{\kappa}$-Liouville quantum gravity (LQG) surface is uniquely characterized by the form of its LQG boundary length process and the form of the conditional law of the unexplored quantum surface given the explored curve-decorated quantum surface up to each time $t$. We prove variants of this characterization for both whole-plane space-filling SLE$_\kappa$ on an infinite-volume LQG surface and for chordal SLE$_\kappa$ on a finite-volume LQG surface with boundary. Using the equivalence of Brownian and $\sqrt{8/3}$-LQG surfaces, we deduce that SLE$_6$ on the Brownian disk is uniquely characterized by the form of its boundary length process and that the complementary connected components of the curve up to each time $t$ are themselves conditionally independent Brownian disks given this boundary length process. The results of this paper are used in another paper by the same authors to show that the scaling limit of percolation on random quadrangulations is given by SLE$_6$ on $\sqrt{8/3}$-LQG with respect to the Gromov-Hausdorff-Prokhorov-uniform topology, the natural analog of the Gromov-Hausdorff topology for curve-decorated metric measure spaces.

The CFT of SLE loop measures and the Kontsevich--Suhov conjecture

Abstract:This paper initiates the study of the conformal field theory of the SLE$_\kappa$ loop measure $\nu$ for $\kappa\in(0,4]$, the range where the loop is almost surely simple. First, we construct two commuting representations $(\mathbf{L}_n,\bar{\mathbf{L}}_n)_{n\in\mathbb{Z}}$ of the Virasoro algebra with central charge $c_\mathrm{M}=1-6(\frac{2}{\sqrt{\kappa}}-\frac{\sqrt{\kappa}}{2})^2\leq1$ as (unbounded) first order differential operators on $L^2(\nu)$. Second, we introduce highest-weight representations and characterise their structure: in particular, we prove the existence of vanishing singular vectors at arbitrary levels on the Kac table. Third, we prove an integration by parts formula for the SLE loop measure, and use it to define the Shapovalov form of the representation, a non degenerate (but \emph{not} positive definite) Hermitian form $\mathcal{Q}$ on $L^2(\nu)$ with a remarkably simple geometric expression. The fact that $\mathcal{Q}$ differs from the $L^2(\nu)$-inner product is a manifestation of non-unitarity. Finally, we write down a spectral resolution of $\mathcal{Q}$ using the joint diagonalisation of $\mathbf{L}_0$ and $\bar{\mathbf{L}}_0$. As an application of these results, we provide the first proof of the uniqueness of restriction measures, as conjectured by Kontsevich and Suhov. Our results lay the groundwork for an in-depth study of the CFT of SLE: in forthcoming works, we will define correlation functions on Riemann surfaces, and prove conformal Ward identities, BPZ equations, and conformal bootstrap formulas.

Abstract:We consider uniform spanning tree (UST) in topological rectangles with alternating boundary conditions. The Peano curves associated to the UST converge weakly to hypergeometric SLE$_8$, denoted by hSLE$_8$. From the convergence result, we obtain the continuity and reversibility of hSLE$_8$ as well as an interesting connection between SLE$_8$ and hSLE$_8$. The loop-erased random walk (LERW) branch in the UST converges weakly to SLE$_2(-1, -1; -1, -1)$. We also obtain the limiting joint distribution of the two end points of the LERW branch.
