Abstract:A palladium‐catalyzed addition of arylboronic acids to para ‐quinone methides has been developed. The catalytic system employing 4,4′‐dimethoxy‐2,2′‐bipyridine ( DMeO‐BPy ) as ligand and trifluoroethanol (TFE) as solvent provides diarylacetate products in high yields. Abstract:Herein we reported a Hf(OTf)4-catalyzed carbon-carbon bond formation reaction between 2-alkyl-azaarenes and para-quinone methides (p-QMs). This 1,6-conjugate addition protocol offered rapid access to a large array of triarylethane products in good yields. The catalyst loading could be reduced to 1 mol %. Studies pertinent to scale-up reaction and product derivatization were also presented.

Abstract:Palladium-catalyzed [4+2] annulation of aryl and alkenyl carboxamides with 1,3-dienes via C–H functionalization is developed using air as the terminal oxidant. The method demonstrates good functional group tolerance and high stereoselectivity, affording a series of 3,4-dihydroisoquinolones and 5,6-dihydropyridinones in yields of up to 99%.

Abstract:An asymmetric addition of arylboronic acids to pyrazolinone ketimines is reported using palladium/chiral N,N′-disulfonyl bisimidazoline (Bim) catalytic system, producing 25 examples of enantioenriched 4-amino-5-pyrazolones bearing one quaternary carbon stereocenter with 60-91% yields and 81-98% ee. The reaction demonstrates remarkable compatibility regarding pyrazolinone ketimines and arylboronic acids, rendering a highly enantioselective access to chiral aza-heterocycles bearing α-tertiary amines.

Abstract:Herein we report transition-metal free, base mediated 1,6-conjugate addition of aryldiazenes to para-quinone methides (p-QMs). Arylhydrazines were used for the in situ generation of aryldiazenes using a base mediated protocol in presence of air as oxidant. The 1,6-conjugate addition of aryldiazenes to para-quinone methides via radical mechanism is followed by an oxidative rearrangement to furnish desired product, arylhydrazone. Interestingly, our synthetic protocol renders formation of aryldiazene radical, which undergoes 1,6-conjugate addition to p-QM to furnish arylhydrazone.

Abstract:Pudovik addition/[1,2]-phospha-Brook rearrangement as an efficient tool for generation of anionic nucleophiles is an attractive strategy for the construction of C-C bonds in organic synthesis. Herein, we report organocatalytic 1,6-conjugate addition of para-quinone methides utilizing Pudovik addition/[1,2]-phospha-Brook rearrangement. Chiral guanidine-sulfonamide catalyzed the three-component reaction efficiently, providing biologically active oxindole/biaryl/phosphorus-based structures in high yields with excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities. A possible bifunctional catalytic mode was proposed to elucidate the chiral control of this process.

Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed asymmetric addition of arylboronic acids to nitrostyrene is reported. The catalytic system employing iPr-IsoQuinox as a chiral ligand in MeOH solvent under an air atmosphere provides the chiral diarylsubstituted products in high yields with good enantioselectivities. A variety of functionalized nitrostyrenes can be used, and the method tolerates some variation in arylboronic acid scope. The stereochemical outcome can be explained using a stereochemical model.

Abstract:An asymmetric 1,6-conjugate addition reaction of dialkyl diazomethylphosphonates to para-quinone methides promoted by phase-transfer catalysis has been developed. A series of chiral diarylmethylated diazomethylphosphonates were accessed with up to 85% yields and 99% ee enantioselectivities. The resulting products were further transformed into bioactive compounds, namely, a chiral dihydrocinnoline phosphonate and a chiral α-aminophosphonate, bearing diarylmethine stereogenic centers.

Abstract:A novel, efficient and pragmatic method to prepare gem-diboron products with vicinal tertiary/quaternary stereocenters using LiTMP-mediated 1,6 -conjugate addition of gem-diborylalkanes to para-quinone methides was described for the first time. The results showed that various gem-diboron products with vicinal tertiary and quaternary stereocenters could be formed within 15 min at ambient temperature. This simple protocol has also been applied for the efficient synthesis of the analogue of Bedaquiline.

Abstract:The photoinduced decarboxylative 1,6-addition of para-quinone methides with α-keto acids in an eco-friendly access to α,α′-diarylated ketones is developed. This reaction proceeds smoothly with a broad substrate scope in the presence of the cheap photocatalyst. Some of α,α′-diarylated ketones were applied as fluorescent dyes into the fluorescence spectrum and live-cell imaging.

Abstract:We have developed a borane-catalyzed sequential addition of terminal alkynes to para-substituted phenols, which affords a wide range of ortho-propargylic alkylated phenols bearing congested quaternary carbons. Control experiments combined with DFT calculations suggest that the reaction undergoes a sequential phenol alkenylation/hydroalkynylation process. Further extension of this strategy to the construction of triaryl-substituted quaternary carbons demonstrates the broad utility of this method.

Abstract:An unprecedented Rauhut-Currier-type 1,6-conjugate addition has been developed. With chiral cyclohexane-based phosphine-amide catalyst 3h, the 1,6-conjugate reaction has been achieved to produce chiral diarylmethine compounds in excellent yields (91-99%) and enantioselectivities (92-98% ee).

Abstract:We have developed an efficient Brønsted acid mediated bis 1,6‐conjugate addition of N‐alkylcarbazoles, N‐methyl iminodibenzyl and hydroquinone with p‐QMs under mild reaction conditions. Further, this method provides a great opportunity for the preparation of library of bis triarylmethanes in good to excellent yields. An efficient and simple PTSA‐mediated bis 1,6‐conjugate addition of N‐alkylcarbazoles, N‐alkyliminodibenzyls and hydroquinone to para‐quinone methides is discussed. This protocol is useful to prepare various bis‐triarylmethanes in good to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions with good functional group tolerance. It is important to mention that, these heterocyclic triarylmethanes are often used in the biological community.

Abstract:A Ni(II)-catalyzed asymmetric addition of arylboronic acids to cyclic aldimines and ketimines is reported. Our tropos phosphine-oxazoline biphenyl ligand is crucial for the high catalytic activity, which coordinates to Ni(II) to form a complex with a single axial configuration. The desired chiral amine products could be prepared with excellent yields (up to 99%) and enantioselectivities (up to 99.8%) under mild reaction conditions.
