Abstract:This paper describes a simple method for synthesis of metallic-graphene. Graphene-supported gold (G-Au) nanorods and nanospheres were synthesized by colloidal seed-mediated, surfactant-assisted approach, using Hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium Bromide (CTAB) and in situ chemical method using ascorbic acid to reduce metal salt, respectively. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Ultraviolet-visible-Near Infrared Spectroscopy (UV-vis-NIR), and Raman spectroscopy were employed to characterize the obtained nanocomposites. TEM observation showed no aggregation for the Au nanoparticles. G-Au nanorods exhibited two characteristic surface plasmon absorption peaks on UV-vis-NIR, and could easily be distinguished from the G-Au nanospheres. The G-Au nanorods showed stronger surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) activity than G-Au nanospheres. The findings from this study will be helpful in guiding synthesis of metallic-graphene composite materials and promoting their applications in biological sensors and nanodevices. It will provide an efficient way and valuable information for exploring the relationship between materials structure and performance of graphene composites in their practical application.
