Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics of severe ill patients with anemia and its prognosis.Methods Two hundred and eighty-eight severe ill patients from July 2009 to April 2011 were enrolled in this study.The incidence of anemia in different gender and age groups were analyzed.According to hemoglobin(Hb) level,the patients were divided into anemia group and non-anemia group,and their clinical features and prognosis were compared.The new onset anemia is defined as Hb less than the value in non-anemia group during hospitalized period.The clinical features and prognosis of the new onset anemia group and non-anemia group were compared.Results Elderly patients accounted for 60.8% of the patients in emergency intensive care unit,and there was no difference between different gender and age groups.The patients had anemia at admission accounted for 48.3%(male 47.0%,female 50.0%).The patient with anemia at admission group required more mechanical ventilation and renal replacement therapy(P<0.01) and had higher mortality rate than that in non-anemia group(P<0.05),but the two groups did not show statistically significant difference in length of hospital stay.The new onset anemia group required more mechanical ventilation(P<0.05) and renal replacement therapy(P<0.01) when compared with non-anemia group,but did not show statistically significant difference in mortality rate and length of hospital stay.Conclusions Severe ill patients in emergency department having anemia are very common.Patients in anemia group need more mechanical ventilation and renal replacement therapy,whether the anemia is present at admission or occurred during hospitalized period.The patients associated with anemia show worser clinical prognosis.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the factors that might be related to the anemia status of the chronic kidney disease patient attending the Beijing Friendship Hospital,in order to improve the treatment of patients with anemia.Methods One hundred and twenty nine patients with chronic attending the kidney outpatient service of Beijing Friendship Hospital took blood tests and were surveyed with questionnaire.Statistical analysis was made by SPSS version 16.0.Results 129 patients with chronic kidney disease were classified in 5 stages.Hemoglobin value in patients with stage Ⅳ was significantly lower than that in patients with stage Ⅱ(P<0.001).Patients with stage Ⅳ had a higher incidence of anemia and higher treatment rate with erythropoietin therapy,respectively,than patients with stage Ⅱ(P<0.05).Female showed consistent association with anemia by univariate analysis(χ2=8.293,P=0.004).Multivariate analysis demonstrated Female and body mass index(BMI) ≥ 24 were independent risk factors for anemia of CKD patients.The odds ratio(95% CI) were 3.679(1.383-9.783) and 5.155(1.380-19.254),respectively,for Female and BMI ≥24.Conclusion Female and obesity patients with CKD in high-risk groups for anemia should be paid more attention.The development of erythropoietin therapy and iron therapy is needed to improve treatment outcomes of anemia in CKD patients.
Prevalence and Incidence of Anemia among School Students Aged 6-11 Years Old in Minhang District of Shanghai

Abstract:Objective To analyze the epidemic features of anemia among students aged 6-11 years old in Minghang District,to provide basis for the control and prevention strategies of anemia among school students.Methods Surveillance on hemoglobin concentration was conducted among 42 872 students aged from 6 to 11 years old between 2012 and 2015.All data analyses were completed by SPSS 18.0 statistical software.Results The prevalence rate of anemia among school students 6-11 years old was 5.05％ (95％CI:4.84-5.26).The prevalence rate of anemia among girls was 5.28％,which was significantly higher than that 4.84％ among boys (x2 =4.24,P =0.037).Six-year-old boys and girls were most susceptible to anemia.Compared to students in Hope Schools,public school students are more vulnerable to anemia (boys:OR =2.37,95 ％ CI:2.03-2.76;girls:OR =2.08,95 ％ CI:1.74 -2.49).Overweight and obese students had a lower risk of anemia than average students (boys:OR =0.65,95 ％ CI:0.55-0.76;girls:OR =0.75,95 ％ CI:0.61-0.92).The three-year cumulative incidence of anemia was 12.80％ (95 ％CI:12.49-13.12).The cumulative incidence among girls was 14.52％,which was significantly higher than that of 11.28％ among boys (x2 =100.26,P＜0.001).Six-year-old boys have the highest three-year cumulative risk among all students,while 10-11-year-old girls have the highest three-year cumulative incidence.The risk of anemia in Hope School was found highest in all schools (boys:RR =1.93,95％CI:1.72-2.16;girls:RR =1.20,95 ％CI:1.04-1.39).Overweight and obesity were considered protective factors to anemia (boys:RR =0.75,95％CI:0.67-0.84;girls:RR =0.77,95％CI:0.68-0.88).The primary and recurrent detection rates of anemia were 14.58％ and 2.54％.The anemia among students was mainly detected during the first examination despite the differences in ages,schools and nutrition conditions (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions The prevalence of anemia among primary school students in Minhang District is at a mild level.Control measures should be adopted,including monitoring of hemoglobin in all school children and adolescents,taking individual intervention measures based on results,promoting the health education for adolescent girls and parents of school children,and paying special attention to Hope School and students with recurrent and continuous anemia.
A Multicenter Investigation and Analysis on Anemia in Lymphoma Patients in Shanghai

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the occurrence and influencing factors of anemia in lymphoma patients and its effect on treatment.Methods:A total of 501 lymphoma patients, who were hospitalized in four general hospitals in Shanghai from January 2017 to June 2018, were followed up for six months. The clinical data about anemia were collected and statistically analyzed.Results:Among all the enrollment patients, there were 178 patients (35.5%) had anemia. Among 289 patients whom were initially treated for lymphoma, there were 99 patients (34.3%) with anemia. In the following-up time, there were 136 new cases (42.1%) of anemia. The total prevalence of anemia was 62.7%. The univariate analysis indicated that the anemia incidence for initially treated lymphoma patients was significantly related to their age, pathological type, bone marrow infiltration, IPI scores and Ann Arbor stage. The response to initially treatment in lymphoma patients with anemia was inferior to those without anemia. The multivariate analysis indicated that IPI scores 3-5 points ( P<0.001, OR=4.230, 95% CI 2.339-7.650) and chemotherapy treatment ( P<0.001, OR=11.049, 95% CI 5.149-23.711) were the independent influential factors to the emerging anemia incidence. PS score used to evaluate patient physical condition was obviously related to the anemia occurrence. Conclusion:Lymphoma patients have a high prevalence and incidence of anemia. The occurrence and severity of anemia are closely related to the efficacy and physical condition of lymphoma patients.
[The Prevalence and Risk Factors of Anemia in a General Population from Kailuan in North China].

Abstract:Objective: To analyze the prevalence and risk factors of anemia in a general population in Kailuan. Methods: Working and retired employees in Kailuan Company who had participated in biennial physical examination from 2006-2014 were investigated by questionnaire and blood test. Hemoglobin levels<120 g/L in male and<110 g/L in female are defined as anemia. The trend of prevalence of anemia was analyzed by chi square test. Multivariable logistic regression was used to analyze the factors associated with anemia. Results: (1) The biennial prevalence of anemia in Kailuan during 2006-2014 were 3.7%, 3.1%, 2.4%, 1.3%, 1.5%. The corresponding proportion were 3.3%, 2.3%, 1.9%, 0.8%, 1.0% in males and 5.3%, 5.9%, 4.2%, 3.1% and 3.3% in females, respectively. The differences between males and females were statistically significant (all P<0.05). The prevalence of anemia declined over time (P for trend<0.05). (2) The results of multivariable logistic regression showed that aging and elevated hs-CRP were positively associated with anemia, with OR= 1.01 (95%CI 1.01-1.02) and 1.03 (95%CI 1.02-1.03) , respectively. While male, BMI, physical exercise, smoking, hyperlipidemia were negatively associated with anemia with OR= 0.60 (95%CI 0.55-0.65) , 0.99 (95%CI 0.98-0.99) , 0.91 (95%CI 0.82-0.98) , 0.87 (95%CI 0.81-0.95) and 0.87 (95%CI 0.81-0.94) , respectively. Conclusions: The prevalence of anemia in a large general population in Kailuan has been analyzed. Prevalence of anemia is higher in males than females and declines over time. Several demographic and clinical characteristics are associated with anemia.
Current status and related factors for anemia of prematurity in Shanghai

Abstract:Objective To analyze the current status of anemia and related factors in premature infants,and to provide scientific basis for clinical prevention.Method A retrospective,case-control study was conducted.A total of 653 premature infants samples within 72 hours after birth from Neonatal Unit from January 2010 to December 2016 were collected to investigate the current status and related factors of anemia in prematurity.Results The anemia rate in premature infants was 322/653 (49.3％).The gestational age,birth weight,Apgar score and jaundice appearance time in anemia group were significantly lower than those of the control group (all P＜0.05).The length of hospital stay,food abstinence duration,the total number of venous blood collection in anemia group were significantly higher than those of the control group (all P＜ 0.05).Multiple factor logistic regression analysis revealed that the length of hospital stay (OR =2.72,95 ％ CI:1.652～ 4.477,P＜0.001),birth weight evaluation (OR =2.424,95 ％ CI:1.673 ～ 3.511,P＜ 0.001),the total number of venous blood collection (OR=1.559,95 ％ CI:1.203 ～ 2.02,P＜0.001) were included as the only independent high-risk factors for anemia of prematurity.Conclusion The smaller gestational age,the lower birth weight,the greater laboratory blood loss and critically ill are associated with anemia of prematurity.

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the treatment of anemia in dialysis patients and the related factors.Methodology:A total of 1632 dialysis patients of 12 hospital in Shanghai during 2008.8～2008.10 were enrolled this study.Results:In 1396 patients whose Hb110 g/L,97.4% patients had been treated with EPO,95.5% and 94.8% in HD and PD patients respectively(P0.05).There were 62.4% patients reached the Hb target(110 g/L),with 70.5% in HD and 40.9% in PD patients(P0.001).The mean Hb was(116±25.9) g/L in the patients who reached the Hb target,with(117±24.7)g/L in HD and(112±20.7) g/L in PD patients(P0.05).In HD and PD patients,the mean dose of EPO was(143±45.8) U/(kg·w) and(155±33.8) U/(kg·w)(P0.05).40.4% patients were treated with iron,with 44.1% in HD and 21.3% in PD patients,33.4% and 18.7% patients were treated with oral iron in HD and PD patients(P0.01),11.24% and 2.61% patients were treated with intravenous iron in HD and PD patients(P0.01),the mean dose of intravenous iron was(98.9±12.1) mg/w and(215±33.1)mg/w in HD and PD patients(P0.01).The mean dose of EPO and iron treatment rate in the patients who reached the Hb goal was significantly higher than in the patients who didn't reached the Hb goal.Conclusion:Most of the anemic patients on dialysis had been treated with EPO,but there were also a great quantity of patients hadn't been treated with iron,especially with intravenous iron which results a low rate of reached Hb target.It is important to pay more attention in the treatment of anemia in dialysis patients.
Multi-center Epidemiological Survey of Preoperative Anemia and Intervention Status of Some Major Pediatric Surgical Diseases

Abstract:Objective To explore the incidence of preoperative anemia and intervention status of some major pediatric surgical diseases in some domestic areas so as to provide scientific rationales for perioperative blood management in children.Methods The hospitalized patients with non-cyanotic congenital heart disease,Hirschsprug's diseaseor choledochal cyst from May 2012 to March 2014 at all study units were surveyed retrospectively by a standard questionnaire.The preoperative hemoglobin (Hb) of routine blood test report closest to the operation day was collected.Anemia was diagnosed as having a level of Hb under 120 g/L.The intervention measures of anemia referred to blood transfusion or supplemental erythropoietin (rHuEPO),iron and vitamins,etc.Results A total of 874 patients at six hospitals in Beijing,Shanghai,Hangzhou,Xi'an,Shenzhen and Chengdu were surveyed.Among congenital heart disease group (n =458),there were 282 boys and 176 girls with a mean age of 28.58 ±29.79 months.The total incidence rate of anemia was 60.3％ (276/458),mild anemia 58.1％ (266/458) and moderate anemia 2.2％ (10/458).The incidence of anemia for children from welfare homes or less than 1 year of age or/and with pulmonary hypertension was significantly higher than that of total incidence rate (P =0.008,P＜0.001-,P＜0.001) ; Among general surgery disease group (n =416),there were 204 boys and 212 girls with an average age of 28.60 ± 32.30 months.The total incidence rate of anemia was 79.6％ (331/416),mild anemia 71.4％ (297/416) and moderate anemia 8.2％ (34/416).The incidence of preoperative anemia differed in each area,ranging from 50％ to 100％.The ratio of direct operation without any intervention measure for preoperative anemia reached over 89.1％.Except for preoperative use of rHuEPO at one hospital,few other interventions were adopted.Conclusions In some domestic areas,the incidence of preoperative anemia is relatively high for some major pediatric surgical diseases.The status of non-intervention for preoperative anemia is quite common.This phenomenon should raise a high alert.
Relationship between subclinical hypothyroidism and anemia

Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between subclinical hypothyroidism and anemia. Methods One hundred and ninety three cases with subclinical hypothyroidism detected in Affiliated Hospital of Shaoxing University from January 2011 to June 2013 were enrol ed in the study (case group) and 772 subjects with normal thyroid function served as control group. The thyroid function, blood routine, liver and kidney function, blood lipids and other indicators, as wel as the prevalence of anemia were compared between two groups;and the risk factors of anemia were analyzed. Results Compared with control group, the hemoglobin levels and red blood cel s in case group were decreased, and globulin(G) was increased significantly (both P<0.05);however, there was no significant difference in other indexes between two groups (P>0.05). The prevalence of anemia in case group was higher than that of control group (6.2%VS 2.7%, P<0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that FT3 and FT4 were positively correlated with hemoglobin(Hb) and red blood cel (RBC)(r=0.364, 0.328, 0.288, 0.243, al P<0.01). Logistic regres-sion analysis showed that subclinical hypothyroidism(OR=2.440, 95%CI=1.100~5.411, P<0.05) and low FT4 (OR=0.793, 95%CI=0.633~0.993, P<0.05) were independent risk factors of anemia. Conclusion The study shows that the prevalence of anemia is significantly higher in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism, subclinical hypothyroidism and low FT4 are independent risk factors for anemia.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: Etiological evaluation of the patients who were hospitalized with the diagnosis of severe anemia (Hb<7 gr/dl) in the emergency internal medicine clinic between January and July, 2013.METHODS: In this study, 112 patients who were hospitalized in Dr. Lutfi Kirdar Kartal Education and Research Hospital emergency internal medicine clinic with severe anemia between January and July 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients' initial complaints, underlying causes of their anemia and prognosis of the patients were evaluated.RESULTS: The etiology of anemia was iron deficiency in 60 (53.6%), chronic kidney failure in 16 (14.2%), hematologic malignancies in 12 (10.7%), liver cirrhosis in 12 (10.7%) and other non-malignant hematologic disorders in 4 (3.6%) patients.CONCLUSION: The most common cause of anemia in patients who apply to emergency internal medicine clinic with severe anemia is iron deficiency. The most common complaints on admission are subjective ones such as weakness, fatigue and lassitude. Chronic disease anemia does not cause severe anemia as much as iron deficiency.
Anemia Status of Primary and Middle School Students in Pudong New Area of Shanghai 2008-2010

Abstract:[Objective]To know the anemia status of primary and middle school students in Pudong new area of Shanghai,provide the basis for improving the health education in schools and enhancing the self health care consciousness in students and parents. [Methods]The surveillance data of anemia of school students in Pudong new area during 2008-2010 were statistically analyzed. [Results]During 2008-2010,there was significant difference in the incidence of anemia in primary and middle school students in Pudong new area(χ2=68.34,P0.01).The incidence of anemia in primary lower grades was high,which fluctuated around 10%.The incidence of anemia in girls was significantly higher than that in boys(χ2=24.84,P0.01). [Conclusion]It is necessary to improve the implementation of health education in schools and enhance the self health care consciousness in students and parents,change the bad dietary habits in junior and adolescent students,so as to maintain the low incidence of anemia.

Abstract:Background: Nutritional anemia is highly prevalent and has triggered a globally recognized public health concern worldwide. Objective: To better understand the prevalence of anemia and the state of nutritional health in developed countries to inform global nutritional health and better manage the disease. Method: We employed the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP)-2020 National Inpatient Health Care Data (NIS), administered by The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Nutritional anemia was diagnosed according to the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10). Matching analysis and multivariate regression were used to adjust for patient and hospital characteristics. Controls were obtained by stratifying and matching for age and sex. Results: The 2020 HCUP-NIS database encompassed a survey over 6.4 million hospitalized patients, among which 1,745,350 patients diagnosed with anemia, representing approximately 26.97% of the hospitalized population, over 310,000 were diagnosed with nutritional anemia, and 13,150 patients were hospitalized for nutritional anemia as primary diagnosis. Hospitalization rate for nutritional anemia exhibited an increased age-dependent increase nationwide, especially among females, who displayed 1.87 times higher than males. Notably, in comparison to the control group, individuals of the Black race exhibit a higher prevalence of nutritional anemia (case group: 21.7%, control group: 13.0%, p < 0.001). In addition, hospitalization rates were higher among low-income populations, with lower rates of private insurance (case group: 18.7%, control group: 23.5%, p < 0.001) and higher rates of Medicaid insurance (case group: 15.4%, control group: 13.9%, p < 0.001). In areas characterized by larger urban centers and advanced economic conditions within the urban–rural distribution, there was an observed increase in the frequency of patient hospitalizations. Iron deficiency anemia emerged as the predominant subtype of nutritional anemia, accounting for 12,214 (92.88%). Secondary diagnosis among patients hospitalized for nutritional anemia revealed that a significant number faced concurrent major conditions like hypertension and renal failure. Conclusion: In economically prosperous areas, greater attention should be given to the health of low-income individuals and the older adult. Our findings hold valuable insights for shaping targeted public health policies to effectively address the prevalence and consequences of nutritional anemia based on a overall population health.

Analysis on Incidence and Related Factors of Anemia in Cancer Patients Caused by 7 Kinds of Chemotherapy Regimes

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the situation of anemia in newly diagnosed ovarian cancer and breast cancer patients treated with 7 kinds of chemotherapy regimes. METHODS:110 cases of newly diagnosed ovarian cancer and breast cancer from May 2008 to Feb. 2009 in People’s Hospital of Peking University were analyzed retrospectively. The level of hemoglobin in patients treated with different chemotherapy regimes were evaluated and analyzed with SPSS software. RESULTS:Of total 110 patients, class Ⅰ anemia occurred 194 times and class Ⅱ anemia occurred 55 times. High incidence of anemia appeared in chemotherapy regimes with platinum as base. Low incidence of anemia occurred in TA chemotherapy regime. The older patient is,the more easily anemia occurred. CONCLUSION:The incidence of anemia after chemotherapy is related to type of cancer,chemotherapy regime, chemotherapy cycle and patient’s age.

Abstract:Introduction: The prevalence of anaemia is high in developing countries due to poor economic, malnutrition, heredity diseases and pregnancy and reduced health care utilization. Increased Iron requirement and mal absorption of Iron also cause the Anaemia in chronic blood loss during menstrual periods. Methodology: A randomised, cross sectional study was conducted for 6 months Based on inclusion and exclusion criteria.120 anaemic patients were screened for biochemical tests. Results: Out of 120 patients, 32% were male and 68% were female. Majority of patients fall under the age group of 17 to 30 years. The educational status indicates, 40% were high school and 35% were illiterate. Majority of the patients were ideal body weight in 38% and 34% were under over weight. The severity was analysed based on Hb value and found that, 8% patient were severe, 8% were moderate and 88% were in mild anaemia. The mean Hb value was found that 10.82 mg/dl. Only 40% of patients are taking the daily breakfast regularly and 42% of female patients not consuming red meat, fish and chicken. Serum ferritin value is only 5.8 ng/ml, MCV found that 72.30 fL and Hb is 10.82 g/dl. Conclusion: The health education on healthy diet and creating awareness on risk factors of anaemia helps to avaoid the severity and complications of anaemia. The effective Pharmaceutical care services on anaemic patients are essential to prevent the morbidity and mortality rate.
Prevalence of Anemia and Its Proportions for Chinese Primary and Secondary School Students

Abstract:Objective To analyze the prevalence of anemia and its proportions of seriousness in the primary and secondary students in China,and to provide bases for the prevention of adolescents' anemia.Methods Subjects were Han students aged 7,9,12,14 and 17 years from the 2005 Chinese National Survey on Student's Constitution and Health.WHO criteria for screening anemia(1972) was used,and the proportion rates of marginal,mild,moderate/serious among the populations were analyzed.Results The prevalence of anemia among Chinese students had swiftly down to the "mild level" according to WHO's definition of epidemic anemia,but many problems still existed.The prevalence was higher in the rural populations than that in the urban ones,and significantly higher in girls than in boys.Young primary students,with high prevalence and relative serious degree,were the highest risk groups of anemia.Conclusion Marginal anemia has become the main body of patients.However,there is a lot of work to do for improving the iron-storage and nutrition status of the Chinese students.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To describe the prevalence of anemia and yearly trends (1993-2003) among women who came to the hospitals or maternal and child health units for premarital examinations in 6 counties of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.METHODS:Data were obtained from the records of the premarital examinations in perinatal health care surveillance system that had been established since 1992 in these areas. We reviewed hemoglobin levels of those women who were enrolled in the perinatal health care surveillance system from 1993 to 2003. Anemia was defined according to the WHO (2001) criterion. We calculated the prevalence of anemia and analyzed the yearly trends based on the data of hemoglobin concentration.RESULTS:In the period of 1993-2003, there were 82 995 anemia cases identified among 193,434 women with an overall anemia rate as 42.9%. The rates of anemia were high (65.5%) in 1993 but low (25.8%) in 2003. 99.7% of the anemic women whose hemoglobin concentration were between 80-119.9 g/L. Time trend analysis indicated a significant decline on anemia rate while monthly analysis showed that the prevalence rates were high (48.2%) in September and low in March (39.5%). The results also showed that the prevalence rates of anemia were relatively higher in farmers and workers in rural enterprises, and lower in Han ethnicity than minorities. The higher prevalence rates of anemia were presented among the women with less education, lower body mass index, or at older age.CONCLUSION:For those premarital women in 6 counties of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, the overall anemic rate presented a significant downward trend between 1993 and 2003 while the prevalence of anemia remained high, especially for the women with less education, lower body mass index or older ages.

Abstract:Background and Aims: Anemia is common in cirrhosis and closely related with adverse outcome in cirrhotic patients, but their clinical features and the effect of variations in hemoglobin levels on mortality or time of death have not yet fully elucidated. As we performed this prospective, multi-center, cohort study to further determine these points.Methods: We retrospectively collected data from the Chinese AcuTe on CHronic LIver FailurE (CATCH-LIFE) study, a prospective multi-center cohort study of patients with chronic liver disease and acute exacerbation conducted by the Chinese Chronic Liver Failure (CLIF) Consortium, which is composed of 15 tertiary hospitals in hepatitis-B-virus high endemic area. Patients were consisted of two prospective multi-center cohorts from the CLIF Consortium between January 2015 to December 2016 and July 2018 to January 2019.We conducted data analysis on prevalence of anemia and clinical characteristics among these patients and further determine the relationship between anemia and prognosis.Results: Among 1979 hospitalized patients with cirrhosis,1389(70.2%) were combine with anemia, a patient has an 6.8% lower risk of death on 90-day mortality and 5.7% lower risk of death on 1-year mortality with a 10g/L decrease in hemoglobin at any level throughout the entire range. Patients with severe anemia have significant higher risk [HR=1.649(1.100,2.473), p=0.016] of 90-day mortality and [HR=1.610(1.159,2.238), p=0.005] of 1-year mortality comparedto those without anemia.Conclusions: Anemia is common in cirrhosis and strongly associated with increased mortality after acute decompensation (AD)/acute liver injury (ALI). Severe anemia is an independent risk factor for poor 90-day and 1-year prognosis in cirrhosis with AD/ALI.

Abstract:Objective: To analyze anemia prevalence and its influencing factors of students involved in the Nutritional Improvement Program for Rural Compulsory Education Students in 2019. Methods: From the 2019 surveillance system of the Nutrition Improvement Program for Rural Compulsory Education Students, 47 297 primary and middle school students aged 6-17 were included in the study. Hemoglobin level was tested according to the criteria of WHO 2011. Anemia prevalence of different genders, ages, and regions was analyzed. Results: The average hemoglobin level was 135.19 g/L, with the prevalence of anemia as 8.7% in the children aged 6-17. The prevalence of anemia was 10.0% in girls, higher than that in boys (7.4%). The prevalence rates in western and central areas were 9.8% and 7.1%, respectively. From northwest, southwest, central and south, east, north to northeast areas of China, the anemia rate appeared gradually decreasing (10.2%, 9.7%, 8.3%, 7.5%, 5.7% and 3.5%). The anemia prevalence rates were 8.0%, 8.3%, and 10.9% in children from the 6-, 11-, and 14-17 years age groups, respectively. Logistic regression models revealed that students from schools not using catering software (OR=1.482, 95%CI:1.296-1.694,P<0.001), schools not serving lunch (OR=1.241, 95%CI:1.103-1.395,P<0.001), and from relatively low-income families (OR=1.297, 95%CI:1.211-1.389, P<0.001) showed as risk factors for anemia. After supplementing students' dietary factors, the results showed that students who ate meat three or more times a week had a lower risk of anemia (OR=0.907, 95%CI:0.832-0.989, P=0.026). Conclusions: The Nutritional Improvement Program for Rural Compulsory Education Students had an essential impact on improving the anemia prevalence of primary and middle school students. Family income, school location, economic factors, school feeding, and students' diet programs all impacted the prevalence of anemia.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the prevalence of anemia in the patients of chronic kidney disease(CKD) and the related factors. Methods Eight hundred and forty-five patients with CKD in Zhongshan Hospital during Jan.and Mar.2007 were enrolled.Univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analysis were carried out. Results In all of the 845 patients,the prevalence of anemia was 69.47% in K/DOQI criteria and 56.09% in Chinese criteria.According to K/DOQI criteria,the prevalences of anemia in the age ranges of 30 years,30-50 years,50-70 years,and 70 years were 47.83%,63.20%,71.95% and 82.99%,respectively;the prevalences of anemia in CKD stage Ⅰ-Ⅴ were 22%,36.96%,45.4%,85.11% and 98.29%,respectively;the prevalence of anemia in CKD corrected by eGFR were associated with varied underling diseases,and the sequence from high to low was diabetic nephropathy(76.83%),hypertensive nephropathy(67.49%),chronic glomerulonephritis(66.05%) and ploycystic renal disease(61.45%)(P0.05).The prevalence of anemia in dialysis patients and non-dialysis patients were 98.24% and 52.05%(P0.001).Age,kidney function and dialysis modality were correlated to anemia significantly by monofactor analysis.Multivariate analysis results indicated that the kidney function was identified as an independent predictor of anemia(P0.05). Conclusions The prevalence of anemia in chronic kidney diease patients is high even at the early stage.The kidney function and age are identified as independent predictors of anemia.

Abstract:【Objective】 To observe the anemia incidence and related factors in infants and young children in Shanghai.【Methods】 Healthy full-term singleton 6 months old infants were recruited and followed.Hemoglobin and red blood cell mass were screened,anthropometric were measured,and feeding information were collected at 6,12,and 24 months old.【Results】 A total of 189 infants were recruited at 6 months old,149 infants completed the follow-up at 12 months old,and 101 young children completed the follow-up at 24 months old.The incidences of anemia were 18.0%,15.4% and 10.9% at 6,12,24 months old respectively.Most of infants and young children were microcytic anemia.At 6 months old,compared with non-anemia infants,statistically more anemia infants had complementary feeding before 4 months old and without meat at 6 months old(P0.01).【Conclusions】 In infants and young children in Shanghai,anemia still existed;the universal hemoglobin screening test might be necessary;iron deficiency,which caused by too early feeding complementary food and too late introduceing meat,is the main reason of anemia.
