Abstract:A novel superhydrophobic and superoleophilic surface was fabricated by one-step electrodeposition on stainless steel meshes, and the durability and oil/water separation properties were assessed. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and optical contact angle measurements were used to characterize surface morphologies, chemical compositions, and wettabilities, respectively. The results indicated that the as-prepared mesh preformed excellent superhydrophobicity and superoleophilicity with a high water contact angle (WCA) of 162 +/- 1 degrees and oil contact angle of (OCA) 0 degrees. Meanwhile, the as-prepared mesh also exhibited continuous separation capacity of many kinds of oil/water mixtures, and the separation efficiency for lubrication oil/water mixture was about 98.6%. In addition, after 10 separation cycles, the as-prepared mesh possessed the WCAs of 155 +/- 2 degrees, the OCAs of 0 degrees and the separation efficiency of 97.8% for lubrication oil/water mixtures. The as-prepared mesh also retained superhydrophobic and superoleophilic properties after abrading, immersing in salt solutions and different pH solutions. (C) 2017 Published by Elsevier B.V.
Superhydrophobic LDH/TTOS composite surface based on microstructure for the anti-corrosion, anti-fouling and oil-water separation application

Abstract:<p>A two-step method was used to fabricate a superhydrophobic surface on steel sheet, nickel foam (NF), and stainless steel mesh (SS). The micro-nano structure of Layer Double Hydroxide (LDH) is obtained by hydrothermal method. The synergistic effect of triethoxy(octyl)silane (TTOS) and FeNi-LDH produces a superhydrophobic surface. Fourier infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used for structural characterization, which confirmed the synthesis and hydrophobic modification of FeNi-LDH. The time of the hydrothermal reaction was discussed, and the results showed that the water contact angle (WCA) of the superhydrophobic surface fabricated by setting the reaction time to 12 hours can reach 169±2°. Electrochemical tests also show that the prepared superhydrophobic surface can achieve a corrosion inhibition rate of 96.3%. In addition, the superhydrophobic NF and superhydrophobic SS prepared by the same method were tested for antifouling and oil-water separation performance. The results show that, due to the excellent non-wettability of the surface, the preparation method of this superhydrophobic surface has great potential value in the fields of anti-corrosion, anti-fouling and oil-water separation.</p>

Preparation of Superhydrophobic Coating on X80 Steel and Its Corrosion Resistance in Oilfield Produced Water

Abstract:Corrosion is an unavoidable issue that steel encounters during service; however, the generic methods employed for corrosion prevention often need high cost or preparation conditions. In this study, a facile chemical replacement deposition method was proposed to realize an anticorrosion superhydrophobic coating on a X80 steel surface. The growth mechanism of the rough structure and its impact on the wettability of the superhydrophobic coating were analyzed. The superhydrophobic coating, deposited for 50 s and modified for 30 min, achieved optimal electrochemical properties and a maximum water contact angle. The immersion test, in the saturated CO2 oilfield produced water, demonstrated the better corrosion resistance of superhydrophobic coating than X80 steel. Correspondingly, a kinetic corrosion model was established to analyze the anticorrosion mechanism. In summary, this method significantly improves the corrosion resistance of X80 steel and is attractive for other industrial fields.

Abstract:By analyzing the application conditions of hydrothermal oxidation equipment, we found that the corrosion resistance of stainless steel is crucial. It is necessary to prepare superhydrophobic surface to improve the corrosion resistance and find a cost-effective and environmentally friendly preparation method. Therefore, this paper proposes a method combining nanosecond laser and post-treatment, which uses nanosecond laser to etch microstructure and reduces the surface energy through diverse post-treatment methods to achieve hydrophobicity. The surface morphology characteristics were studied, the wettability of various post-treatment methods was compared, and the hydrophobic mechanism was analyzed. The results show that the groove width has a significant impact on the surface morphology. Superhydrophobic surface can be obtained immediately after heat treatment and fluorosilane modification, while natural storage requires more than one month. All of the post-treatment can obtain hydrophobicity by reducing the surface energy, but the chemical composition is distinct. The cost-effective composite process of laser and heat treatment plays a guiding role in future research on the preparation of stainless steel superhydrophobic surface and has broad prospects in the future in large-scale production and application.

Abstract:Due to the construction of complicated micro-/nanohierarchical structures, designing durable superamphiphobic Al surfaces by a simple, environmentally friendly, and fast method remains a great challenge. In this article, we used a simple and environmentally friendly technique that includes laser marking and water boiling treatment to create triple-scale micro-/nanostructures on 1060 Al surfaces. The as-prepared 1060 Al surfaces revealed excellent superamphiphobicity with low sliding angles, owing to great Cassie state stability after 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane (FAS-17) modification. The contact angle of the water droplets reaches 160°, and that of peanut oil droplets reaches 155° on this surface. Meanwhile, this superamphiphobic Al surface also possesses excellent self-cleaning ability and oil resistance. Even when entirely immersed in oil sludge, the as-prepared Al surfaces can retain superamphiphobicity. Furthermore, the as-prepared superamphiphobic Al surface demonstrates outstanding chemical stability and endurance in a variety of application environments. In addition, the as-prepared superamphiphobic Al surface offers potential anti-icing and anti-frosting properties. Therefore, the as-prepared superamphiphobic Al surface will be a potential candidate with broad applications in aerospace, construction, and marine industries.Graphical abstract

Abstract:A simple one-step electrodeposition process is developed for the fabrication of superhydrophobic surfaces on a series of substrates such as copper, titanium, iron, zinc, aluminum, and stannum. The hierarchical micro- and nanostructures endow these surfaces with excellent super-hydrophobicity and the resulting surfaces show superhydrophobicity even for some corrosive liquids including salt solutions and acidic and basic solutions at all pH values. Importantly, this approach can be easily applied to other systems such as the fabrication of superamphiphobic surfaces as long as the substrates are electrically conductive.

Abstract:The preparation of superhydrophobic surfaces on hydrophilic metal substrates depends on both surface microstructures and low surface energy modification. In this study, a simple and inexpensive electrochemical method for preparing robust superhydrophobic titanium surfaces is reported. The neutral sodium chloride solution is used as electrolyte. Fluoroalkylsilane (FAS) was used to reduce the surface energy of the electrochemically etched surface. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra, and contact angle measurement are performed to characterize the morphological features, chemical composition, and wettability of the titanium surfaces. Stability and friction tests indicate that the prepared titanium surfaces are robust. The analysis of electrolyte, reaction process, and products demonstrates that the electrochemical processing is very inexpensive and environment-friendly. This method is believed to be easily adaptable for use in large-scale industry productions to promote the application of superhydrophobic titanium surfaces in aviation, aerospace, shipbuilding, and the military industry.

Abstract:The special wettability of superhydrophobic metal surface endows it with considerable application potential in various fields, but the vulnerability of its surface structure is the biggest obstacle to its extensive application. Herein, a robust superhydrophobic structure on steel surface was prepared using electrospark deposition and electrochemical etching. Electrospark deposition greatly improved the wear resistance of the steel surface, and electrochemical etching further prepared the hierarchical micro-nano-superhydrophobic structure. Besides, the morphology, element distribution, chemical composition, roughness and wettability of the superhydrophobic surface were characterized by SEM, EDS, XPS, FTIR, roughness meter and contact angle meter, respectively. The results showed that the superhydrophobic surface had high roughness and that the structure was beneficial to air storage. Electrospark deposition successfully introduced elements to form alloys on the surface of steel and improved the surface wear resistance. After modification with myristic acid, the prepared rough surface was equipped with excellent superhydrophobicity, and the contact angle of water reached 159° ± 2°. The robustness of the superhydrophobic surface was carefully investigated by carrying out different tests over items including linear friction, sand impact, tape peeling, knife tip scratch, knife edge scratch and hammering. It had been verified that the surface of superhydrophobic steel prepared by electrochemical etching was fragile, and the use of electrospark deposition before electrochemical etching contributed to the higher-level robustness of the superhydrophobic surface structure. In addition, the contact angle of the superhydrophobic surface remained unchanged at a temperature of 250 °C for 24 h, and it showed excellent self-cleaning performance in both chalk and dirty water tests.

Abstract:A kind of stainless steel surface with superhydrophobic and superoleophobic were prepared by nanosecond laser. The surface of 304stainless steel was ablated by laser to obtain micro-nano structure, and then the surface energy of the sample was reduced by using the aqueous solution of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) to obtain the special wettability surface. The contact angles (CA) of 5 μL of water, glycerol, peanut oil and hexadecane were 165.77°, 155.09°, 155.24° and 152.83° respectively, and the sliding angles (SA) were about 1°, 2°, 4° and 10° respectively. The surface of the sample was analyzed and characterized by SEM, EDS, FTIR and other testing equipment. The influence of single variable on wettability was studied by controlling the scanning interval, speed, heating temperature, soaking time and so on. The samples obtained by this method have good self-cleaning, wear resistance and stability, and can still maintain good superhydrophobic and superhydrophobic properties under natural conditions for up to two months.

Hybrid superamphiphobic anti-corrosion coating with integrated functionalities of liquid repellency, self-cleaning, and anti-icing

Abstract:Superhydrophobic materials have shown tremendous potential in various fields. However, the adhesion, wetting, and pinning of low-surface-tension liquids greatly limit their multifunctional applications. Therefore, the creation of superamphiphobic coatings that combine superhydrophobic and superoleophobic properties through a simple preparation strategy is desirable. In this study, we successfully developed an organic-inorganic hybrid superamphiphobic coating on Q235 carbon steel using aluminum oxide nanoparticles, organosilanes, and waterborne epoxy resin via a versatile spray-coating technique. The coating exhibited high contact angles (> 151°) and low sliding angles (< 7°) for water and oil liquids, demonstrating excellent superamphiphobic characteristics. Electrochemical tests demonstrated significant improvements in charge transfer resistance and low-frequency modulus for the superamphiphobic coating. The corrosion potential shifted positively by 590 mV, and the corrosion current density decreased by four orders of magnitude. Additionally, the coating endured 480 h of salt spray and 2400 h of outdoor atmospheric exposure, showcasing superior anti-corrosion capacity. Freezing tests of water droplets at –10°C and –15°C confirmed that the coating significantly prolonged the freezing time with reduced ice adhesion strength. We believe that the designed superamphiphobic coating with integrated functionalities of self-cleaning, anti-corrosion, anti-icing, and anti-liquid-adhesion can provide important solutions for extending the lifespan of materials in marine and industrial environments. Abstract:Superamphiphobic surfaces have great potential applications in flame resistance, anti-icing, self-cleaning, anti-adhesion, micro-flow control and so on. However, the surface durability is poor owing to the limitation of design principles. In recent years, a lot of efforts have been carried out on the morphology, structure, and stability of superamphiphobic surfaces, resulting in significant improvement in their surface superwetting properties. In this review, we present a brief classification of the morphological types of superamphiphobic surfaces and summary of the recent progress of researches on the stability of superamphiphobic surfaces. Several testing methods of mechanical and chemical stability are listed in the article, together with the characteristic results, to provide a better and more detailed understanding of the current research status on superamphiphobic surface stability, which will be of considerable importance as a reference guide for our future researches. Of course, there are still some issues that need to be addressed for the application of superamphiphobic surfaces at large scale, and this is where our future researches will be directed. Finally, we discuss the challenges as well as the prospects in the study of superamphiphobic surfaces.

Facile Preparation of Robust Superamphiphobic Coatings on Complex Substrates via Nonsolvent-Induced Phase Separation

Abstract:Superamphiphobic surfaces have great potential in many fields but often suffer from complicated, expensive, and time-consuming preparation methods, difficulty in applying them on complex substrates, and low stability. Herein, we show a facile fabrication of robust superamphiphobic coatings on complex substrates. A stock suspension was prepared by nonsolvent-induced phase separation of a silicone-modified polyurethane (Si-PU) adhesive containing fluorinated silica (FD-silica) nanoparticles. Then, superamphiphobic surfaces could be easily fabricated via dip coating in the suspension. The influences of phase separation and Si-PU/FD-silica ratio on the wettability and morphology of the coatings were studied. The coatings feature a microscale dense and nanoscale rough texture due to phase separation and rapid solvent evaporation, which enhances the stability by forming strong linkages among the nanoparticles while achieving high superamphiphobicity by trapping air stably in the nanopores. Consequently, the coatings show excellent static/dynamic superamphiphobicity, superior impalement resistance, and good mechanical, chemical, thermal, and UV aging stability. Additionally, the coatings have good anti-icing performance as demonstrated by the greatly extended water freezing time and weakened ice adhesion force in both simulated and real conditions.
A simple preparation of F-TiO2-HNT superamphiphobic surface with tube-point-like micro/nano hierarchical structure for self-cleaning and anti-fouling

Abstract:Superhydrophobic surfaces with multi-scale nano/microstructures have been prepared on epoxy paint surfaces using a feasible dip-coating process. The microstructures with 5-10 microm protuberances were first prepared on epoxy paint surface by sandblast. Then the nanostructures were introduced on the microstructure surface by anchoring 50-100 nm SiO(2) particles (nano-SiO(2)) onto the sandblasted paint surface, which was completed by dip-coating with a nano-SiO(2)/epoxy adhesive solution (M1). At last the surface was further modified for enhancing hydrophobicity by another dip-coating with a solution of a low surface energy polymer, aminopropyl terminated polydimethylsiloxane (ATPS) modified epoxy adhesive (M2). The water contact angle of the as-prepared samples reached as high as 167.8 degrees and the sliding angle was 7 degrees. The prepared superhydrophobic surface exhibited excellent durability to the high speed scouring test and high stability in neutral and basic aqueous solutions and some common organic solvents. In addition, this method can be adopted to fabricate large scale samples with a good homogeneity of the whole surface at very low cost.

Abstract:Superamphiphobic coatings have shown great potential in many fields such as with their anti-corrosion, high-temperature resistance, self-cleaning, and drag reduction properties. However, due to the poor stability of their coatings, it is difficult to apply them on a large scale. In this paper, two kinds of SiO2 particles and nickel were co-deposited on the surface of steel to construct a micro/nano dual-scale structure by composite electrodeposition. The surface of the coating was then fluorinated with the low-surface-energy material 1H,1H,2H,2H-Perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane (AC-FAS) to prepare a Ni-SiO2 superamphiphobic coating. The coating has a water contact angle of 159° and an oil contact angle of 151°. The effect of nanoparticle concentration on the wettability and surface morphology of the coating was systematically studied. Comparative experiments revealed that the optimal micro/nanoparticle concentrations were 8 g/L of 20 nm SiO2 and 2 g/L of 1 μm SiO2. This preparation method greatly improves the corrosion resistance, wear resistance, chemical stability, and high-temperature resistance of the coating.

Abstract:Hydrogen-induced embrittlement is a significant safety concern for steel pipelines used in the transmission of hydrogen-blended natural gas. To mitigate this issue, hydrogen barrier coatings can be applied to the surface of steel substrates to reduce hydrogen permeation. In this study, rare earth oxides were optimized via first-principles calculations to identify the most effective doping agents. Subsequently, a Fe x Al y /Al/Al 2 O 3 composite coating doped with La 2 O 3 and Ce 2 O 3 was successfully applied to the surface of X80 steel using hot-dip aluminum plating combined with anodic oxidation. The coating was characterized using various techniques, including SEM, EDS, XRD, XPS, and hydrogen permeation tests. The results demonstrated that co-doping La 2 O 3 and Ce 2 O 3 resulted in a lower adsorption energy of Al 2 O 3 to hydrogen molecules, and improved the surface quality of the aluminizing layer and the composite coating. Electrochemical hydrogen permeation tests showed that the Fe x Al y /Al/Al 2 O 3 composite coating significantly improved the hydrogen barrier property of X80 steel. The anodizing current density was found to have a significant effect on the coating's morphology, which in turn affected the hydrogen barrier property of the coating. The composite coating obtained at an anodizing current density of 2 A/dm 2 was uniform and dense, without noticeable defects, and exhibited the best hydrogen barrier property. Graphical

Preparation of Superhydrophobic Materials and Establishment of Anticorrosive Coatings on the Tinplate Substrate by Alkylation of Graphene Oxide

Abstract:Corrosion of structural parts not only reduces the service life of the equipment but also causes safety accidents, so building a long-lasting anti-corrosion coating on its surface is the key to solving this problem. Under the action of alkali catalysis, n-octyltriethoxysilane (OTES), dimethyldimethoxysilane (DMDMS), and perfluorodecyltrimethoxysilane (FTMS) hydrolyzed and polycondensed co-modified graphene oxide (GO), modified to synthesize a self-cleaning superhydrophobic material fluorosilane-modified graphene oxide (FGO). The structure, film morphology, and properties of FGO were systematically characterized. The results showed that the newly synthesized FGO was successfully modified by long-chain fluorocarbon groups and silanes. FGO presented an uneven and rough morphology on the substrate surface, the water contact angle was 151.3°, and the rolling angle was 3.9°, which caused the coating to exhibit excellent self-cleaning function. Meanwhile, the epoxy polymer/fluorosilane-modified graphene oxide (E-FGO) composite coating adhered to the carbon structural steel's surface, and its corrosion resistance was detected by the Tafel curve and EIS impedance. It was found that the current density of the 10 wt% E-FGO coating (Icorr) was the lowest (1.087 × 10-10 A/cm2), which was approximately 3 orders of magnitude lower than that of the unmodified epoxy coating. This was primarily due to the introduction of FGO, which formed a continuous physical barrier in the composite coating and gave the composite coating excellent hydrophobicity. This method might provide new ideas for advances in steel corrosion resistance in the marine sector.

Abstract:Preparation of robust superamphiphobic surface has been still one of research focuses in the surface engineering field. In this study, the SiC/Al composite, an advanced material preferentially used in the industries of microelectronics, aerospace and defense, etc., was innovatively selected as the substrate material to prepare the surfaces with extreme anti-wettability. Electrochemical etching was applied to process the SiC/Al composites and the effects of process parameters on the surface wettability were discussed. The characteristics of resistance to thermal shock of the processed surface with extreme anti-wettability were specially evaluated. It was found that, after processed by electrochemical etching and subsequent boiling water treatment, the modified SiC/Al composites showed an excellent superamphiphobicity to water and some low surface energy liquids including olive oil, soybean oil and hexadecane, with a water contact angle of up to 161.2 degrees and a water sliding angle of down to 2 degrees. In addition, the thermal shock experiments showed that the achieved superhydrophobic and superamphiphobic surfaces of the SiC/Al composites both had a significantly great resistance to thermal shocks and high temperature, due mainly to the matrix microstructures of the SiC/Al composites with outstanding mechanical and thermal properties together with the possible good thermal matching property between the low surface energy coating and the SiC particles. The superamphiphobic surfaces with robustly mechanical and outstanding resistance to thermal-shock properties can be facilely prepared by electrochemical etching process based on the SiC/Al composites. Large-Area Preparation of a Robust Superamphiphobic Coating for Chemical Mechanical Polishing Application

Abstract:In the chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP) process, the abrasive particles in the polishing slurry tend to agglomerate easily and crystallize on the equipment surfaces during recycling, which can lead to poor wafer processing quality and additional tedious cleaning work. To overcome this issue, a simple and cost-effective self-cleaning surface preparation method has been developed. In this study, elastic and stretchable hydroxyl polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS-OH) was selected as the functional material, it was chelated with pentaerythritol tetra(3-mercapto propionate), and then 2-(perfluorooctyl)ethyl methacrylate was further grafted in situ to the polymer chains via a photoinduced thiol-ene click reaction. Hydrophobically modified micronanoscale silica particles were used to construct robust hierarchical micronanostructures while imparting stable mechanical wear resistance to the coating. The resulting superamphiphobic film exhibits the "lotus effect" and exceptional self-cleaning ability, repelling liquids such as water, hexadecane, and polishing slurry. Furthermore, the coating demonstrated outstanding chemical resistance and antifouling ability. Thus, it provides a feasible solution for preventing abrasive crystallization at critical locations where the polishing slurry flows in the CMP equipment. This work contributes to the enhanced application of superrepellent coatings in the CMP stage of semiconductor material processing.
Preparation and Properties of Fluorinated Low Surface Energy Modified Superamphiphobic Coatings

Abstract:The work aims to prepare the superamphiphobic coatings with good mechanical and chemical stabilities. Three sizes of micro-/nanometer silicas and epoxy resin were constructed to the concave-convex micro-/nanometer rough structure. After the monolayer of low-surface-energy fluoride-chains was modified on concave-convex micro-/nanometer rough structure, the superamphiphobic coating was prepared. FESEM, AFM and XPS were used to analyze the morphology and composition of coating surface. The contact angle and roll angle of coating surface were tested by the contact angle meter. Then, abrasive paper friction test, chemical resistance test and solvent resistance test were carried out to evaluate the wear resistance and chemical stability of the superamphiphobic coating. The coating had outstanding superhydrophobic properties to liquids with different 第 47 卷第 11 期王静等:含氟低表面能修饰的超双疏涂层制备及其性能 ·67· surface tension in the range of 34~72 mN/m, such as water, ethanediol and peanut oil. After 5 cycles of mechanical friction on abrasive paper, the contact angle (CA) of peanut oil was above 155 and the rolling angle (RA) was below 5. As for ethylene glycol and water, CAs and RAs were above 154 and below 2.5 respectively after 10 cycles of mechanical friction. In addition, the coating remained superhydrophobic to water and ethylene glycol after being immersed in an alkali solution (pH=14) and n-heptane for 168 hours. After 96 hours, the contact angle of the coating with peanut oil was above 153, and the rolling angle was between 10 to 20. The coating has great potential application value in the industrial field for its excellent superamphiphobic properties and good mechanical and chemical stability.
