Abstract:Objective: Renalase, a recently discovered flavoprotein, which is strongly expressed in the kidney and heart, effectively metabolizes catecholamines, having important hemodynamic effects. The two SNPs rs2296545 and rs2576178 have been reported might be associated with the susceptibility to hypertension. Owning to the inconsistent results, we performed a meta-analysis to assess the association between these two SNPs and hypertension risk. Design and Method: Electronic databases were systematically searched to find relevant studies. Pooled odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) was calculated using fixed-or random-effect models. Results: A total of 7 case-control studies on rs2296545 and 6 studies on rs2576178 were included. In combined analysis, the results showed a significant association between rs2296545 polymorphism and hypertension risk in all genetic models (CG + CC/GG:OR = 1.33, 95% CI 1.05–1.68; CC/CG + GG:OR = 1.28, 95% CI 1.03–1.59; CC/GG:OR = 1.48, 95% CI 1.07–2.03; CG/GG:OR = 1.27, 95% CI 1.09–1.47; C/G:OR = 1.22, 95% CI 1.04–1.44). Though we did not find association between rs2576178 polymorphism and hypertension risk in combined analysis, a trend of increased risk could be noticed in subgroup analysis (subgroup1: AG + GG/AA:OR = 1.44, 95% CI 1.21–1.72; GG/AG + AA:OR = 1.20, 95% CI 1.02–1.41; AG/AA: OR = 1.41, 95% CI 1.17–1.69). Conclusions: A total of 7 case-control studies on rs2296545 and 6 studies on rs2576178 were included.
