Abstract:Objective: To investigate the resting heart rates of hypertensive patients with or without coronary heart disease or heart failure, and analyze the use status of beta blockers in Chinese hypertensive patients. Design and Method: With the method of cross-sectional survey, a total of 167119 hypertensive patients were enrolled in according to their visiting order to the cardiovascular department from February to June in 2014. Patients were investigated with questionnaire and blood pressure and heart rate were measured. Data of 115239 hypertensive patients (57.99 ± 13.74 years old) were analyzed. Among them, three groups separately included 86676 cases with simple hypertension, 26661 cases complicated with coronary heart disease, 1892 cases complicated with heart failure. The blood pressure and heart rate were measured by PAD (Lenovo A1100) connecting with blue tooth electronic sphygmomanometer (iHealth BP5). Results: The average resting heart rate of these patients was 76.60 bpm. In three groups, the percentages of patients with the heart rate in the interval of 70–79bpm were 34.51%, 41.16% and 38.53% separately. The percentage of simple hypertensive patients, whose heart rates were above 80 bpm, was 38.16%. Compared with patients younger than 60 years old, the systolic blood pressure was 6.19 mmHg higher, diastolic blood pressure was 10.20 mmHg lower, and heart rate was 2.42 bpm lower (all P < 0.0001) in patients elder than eighty years old. The usage rates of beta blocker in all enrolled patients was 36.90%, which in simple hypertensive patients were lower obviously than that in hypertensive patients with coronary heart disease or heart failure (27.61 vs 52.12%, 46.23%, P < 0.0001). Conclusions: The heart rate was generally faster in Chinese hypertensive patients, and not being well-controlled especially in those with coronary heart disease and heart failure. The usage of beta blocker was lower in patients elder than eighty years old.
