Abstract:By reacting an asymmetric semi-rigid V-shaped linker H(3)dpob (H(3)dpob = 3-(2'3'-dicarboxylphenoxy)benzoic acid) and Ln(NO3)(3)center dot 6H(2)O, nine novel Ln-based luminescent materials, from 1D to 3D, namely {[Eu.dpob).phen)]center dot H2O}(n) (1), {[Ln(Hdpob)(ox)(0.5)(H2O)(2)]}(n) (Ln = Eu(2), Sm(3), Gd(4), Tb(5)), {[Eu(dpob)(H2O)(2)]center dot 0.5H(2)O}(n) (6), and {[Ln(dpob)(H2O)(2)]center dot mH(2)O} n (Ln = Eu(7), Gd(8), Tb(9), m = 0.5 for 7 and 9; m = 1 for 8) (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline; H(2)ox = oxalic acid) have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and PXRD. The crystal structures of 1-9 indicate that the coordination modes and coordination configuration of the H(3)dpob ligand play critical roles in the formation of the lanthanide architectures. Complexes 1-5 display multiple structures from double-stranded 1D chains to 4-connected 2D layers, through [Eu-2(CO2)(4)] or [Eu-2(CO2)(2)] dinuclear units with different auxiliary ligands. Complexes 6 and 7 are genuine supramolecular isomers which are induced by the concentration effect. 6 possesses a 2D kgd network with a Schlafli symbol of (4(3))(2)(4(6).6(6).8(3)) built from 6-connected [Eu-2(CO2)(2)] units and 3-connected H(3)dpob, which further connects to a (3,8)-connected tfz-d topology through O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds. 7 displays a 3D (3,6)-connected rtl network with the Schlafli symbol (4.6(2))(2)(4(2).6(10).8(3)). Eu complexes 1, 2, 6, and 7 as well as Tb complexes 5 and 9 could provide intense and bright characteristic D-5(0) -> F-7(J)/D-5(4) -> F-7(J) red/green luminescence under UV excitation in the solid state at 298 K and 77 K. The calculated singlet and triplet energies of H(3)dpob as well as phen and H(2)ox ligands indicate that these ligands act as antenna chromophores that are able to efficiently absorb and transfer energy to Ln(III) ions. In complexes 1, 2 and 5, ligand-to-metal energy transfer processes could occur in mixed ligands. However, these processes occurred in a single H3dpob ligand in complexes 6 and 7. With careful adjustment of the relative concentration of the lanthanide ions and by varying the excitation wavelengths of {[Gd0.92Eu0.04Tb0.04(dpob)(H2O)(2)]center dot 0.5H(2)O} n (10), tunable yellow (CIE coordinate: 0.51, 0.40) to white-light (CIE coordinate: 0.33, 0.34) emission has been obtained.

Abstract:Four novel compounds {[In(FDA)(HFDA)-(H2O4] center dot 2H(2)O} (Inl.) and I [Ln(2)(FDA)(2)(H2O)(10)]center dot FDA center dot 6H(2)O} (Ln = Dy2, Eu3, Gd4) have been hydrothermally synthesized by using the ligand furan-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (H(2)FDA). Driven by hydrogen bonding and pi...pi stacking, In1 displays a supramolecular metal-organic framework (MOF) with 6-connected pcu topology. Isostructural Dy2, Eu3, and exhibit bnn topological structures with the Schlafli symbol of Gd4 possess one-dimensional "wave-like" chains and further (4(6).6(4)) via a hydrogen bonding network. The triplet state (T-1 = 22371 cm(-1)) of H(2)FAD studied by compound Gd4 indicates that the energy transition from the H(2)FDA ligand to the Eu3 ion in compound Eu3 is efficient but inefficient to the Dy3+ ion in compound Dy2. Interestingly, the uncoordinated carbonyl group of compound In1 can sensitize Ln(3+) ions to obtain Dy3+@In1 and Eu3+@In1 materials for enhancing luminescence. The possible sensitization mechanism is studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and surface photovoltage spectroscopy. When the Eu3 ion is increased from 0.0 to 1.6 mu M in aqueous solution, compound In1 exhibits a distinguishable luminescence color change from blue to red with a fast detection time (<2 min), and the ratio of luminescence intensity at 617 nm to that at 408 rim (I-617/I-408) enhances linearly with a low detection limit of 0.87 mu M. Additionally, with careful adjustment of lanthanide(III) ions, white-light emission material could be achieved with metal content of Dy0.87Eu0.13.

Abstract:Three isostructural lanthanide metal–organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs, Ln = Eu3+, Tb3+, Dy3+) containing P-terphenyl-2,2″,4,4″-tetracarboxylate ligand (H4L) with red, green, and blue luminescence were solvothermally synthesized. Thus, a series of mixed Ln-MOFs, (EuxTbyDy1-x-y)(HL)(H2O)(DEF) (DEF, N,N-diethylformamide), were designed and obtained, which displayed highly temperature-tuned emission in the visible region, including white light emission. Additionally, tunable luminescence can also be achieved by changing the excitation wavelength.

Abstract:Five novel three-dimensional lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) constructed by 4-(3',5'-dicarboxylphenoxy) phthalic acid (H(4)dcppa), namely, {[Eu(Hdcppa)(H2O)(2)]center dot H2O}n (Eu-1), [Eu-1.5(dcppa) (HCOO)(0.5)(H2O)(2)]. (Eu-2), {[Ln(2)K(2)(dcFPa)(2)(H2O)(6)].m}H2O}(n) (Ln = Eu-3, Tb-4, Gd-5, m = 5 for Eu-3 and Tb-4; m = 4 for Gd-5) (HCOOH = formic acid) have been prepared by hydro(solvo)thermal method and fully characterized. Structural analyses indicated that H(4)dcppa ligand took four different coordination fashions in 1-5 and, thus, resulted in diversity of the targeted Ln-MOFs: Eu-1 displays the rare 3D (5,5)-connected vbk net, containing one-dimensional left and right-handed helical chains; Eu-2 possesses a 3D (3,8) -connected tfz-d topology constructed by trinuclear paddlewheel [Eu-3(CO)(26)] SBUs; 3-5 are isostructural and show 3D (Ln-dcppa(4-)) + 2D (K-dcppa(4-)) -> 3D (LnK-dcppa(4-)) structure. Eu-3, with regular 1D channels and open Lewis basic oxygen atoms on the pore surface was utilized for specific sensing and binding of metal ions through Lewis base interactions, shows high selectivity, fast response time (8 min), and high sensitivity (K-sv = 4.3/5.2 X 10(4) L/mol) for Fe3+ and Cu2+ ions with luminescent quenching. Furthermore, the detection limit of the sensor is in the 10(-6) M level. The triplet state (T-1 = 23364 cm(-1)) of H4dcppa studied by the Gd(III)-MOF and Gd-5 demonstrates that the ligand ideally populates Eu(III)/Tb(III) emission with luminescent quantum yields (Phi(overall) ) of 11.2% for Eu-1, 27.6% for Eu-2, 18.5% for Eu- 3, and 62% for Tb-4, respectively.

Abstract:In our previous work, a family of isostructural lanthanide metal-organic frameworks, [Ln(3)(L)(3)(H2O)(2)]center dot(H3O)(3)(H2O)(4)center dot(DMF)(3) (abbreviated as Ln(3)(L)(3)(H2O)(2), Ln = Eu, Tb, Sm, Dy and Gd) were synthesized under solvothermal conditions based on a semi-rigid tetravalent carboxylic tetracarboxylic acid (3,3',5,5'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid, H4L). Due to the good sensitization of the H4L ligand, Ln(3)(L)(3)(H2O)(2) all show the intense characteristic emission bands of the corresponding lanthanide ions. The optical properties of Ln(3)(L)(3)(H2O)(2) can be easily tuned by doping different lanthanide ions into the same host frameworks. Moreover, white-light emission can be successfully realized for four kinds of codoped compounds Tb0.005Eu0.005Gd0.990L, Dy0.006Eu0.006Gd0.988L, Dy0.0002Sm0.001Gd0.9988L and Tb0.002Sm0.006Gd0.992L (the value refer to the starting molar ratios of Ln(3+) ions). Abstract:A new series of five lanthanide(III) metal-organic frameworks with a general formula of [Ln(3)(bcpb)(4)(mu-HCOO)( mu-H2O)(H2O)(2)(DEF)](n) (1-5) was generated by solvothermal reactions from Ln(NO3)(3).6H(2)O {Ln = Eu (1), Tb (2), Gd (3), Dy (4), and Sm (5)} and 3,5-bis(3-carboxyphenyl) pyridine (H(2)bcpb) in an aqueous N, N-diethylformamide (DEF) medium. The obtained products were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The latter reveals that all compounds (1-5) are isostructural and feature very intricate 2D metal-organic frameworks. These were topologically analyzed, revealing a very complex hexanodal underlying net that can be simplified further to a binodal 3,5-connected layer with the 3,5L52 topology. Solid-state photoluminescence properties of 1-5 were studied in detail. Compound 1 exhibits a strong red luminescence upon excitation at 338 nm and its lifetime is 532 mu s. Compound 2 shows an intense green luminescence upon excitation at 336 and its lifetime is 981 mu s. The triplet state ((3)pi pi*) of bcpb(2-) studied by using the Gd(III) derivative 3 demonstrated that the ligand effectively populates Tb(III) emission (Phi = 70.96%), whereas the corresponding Eu(III) derivative 1 shows a weak luminescence efficiency (Phi = 15.81%) as the triplet state of bcpb(2-) has a poor match with the D-5(0) energy level of Eu(III). A notable feature of 1 is its remarkable sensing ability for Cu2+ ions and 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP). Besides, a series of heterobimetallic Tb-based MOFs, [Tb3(1-x)Eu3x(bcpb)(4)(mu-HCOO)(mu-H2O)(H2O)(2)(DEF)](n) {x = 0.001, 0.002, 0.003, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20} (compounds 2a-2j, respectively), was prepared. The luminescence studies reveal that the simultaneous presence of the characteristic sharp emission bands of Eu3+ and Tb3+ allows the tuning of the photoluminescence colors of such materials by adjusting the doping concentration of the Eu3+ ions.

Abstract:Three isostructural lanthanide metal–organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs), {[Ln2(BDPO)1.5(DMA)3(H2O)]·5H2O }n (1-Ln, Ln = Eu, Gd, and Tb) were constructed by a less-investigated large delocalized π-electron conjugated ligand N,N′-bis(3,5-dicarboxyphenyl)-oxalamide (H4BDPO). 1-Ln reveals unprecedented trinodal (4,4,6)-connected networks based on binuclear cluster units and planar BDPO linkers. Density functional theory (DFT) and time dependent-DFT calculations were performed on the ground and excited states to provide insight into geometries, the frontier molecular orbitals, and singlet and triplet state energies of H4BDPO ligand. 1-Eu and 1-Tb exhibit strong typical red and green emission of Eu3+ and Tb3+ ions, respectively, originating from the highly efficient energy transfer from BDPO to metal centers, as demonstrated by the comparison of triplet excited energies of ligands and metal ions. Abstract:There have been numerous studies on emission-color regulation by the adjustment of molar amounts of multiple trivalent lanthanide cations, such as Eu3+, Tb3+, Dy3+, and others, in many types of solid host materials. Although uranyl emission originating from charge-transfer transitions has been well-recognized and investigated for many decades, as of now there is no report on tunable 4f/5f bimodal emission based on heterobimetallic lanthanide(III) and uranyl(VI) compounds. In most cases, complete energy transfer between uranyl(VI) and lanthanide(III) centers was observed. In this work, a series of isotypic-europium-incorporated uranyl coordination polymers, Eu@UO2L(DMF) (L2- = 3,5-pyridinedicarboxylate, denoted as 1-10, which represent the different Eu contents in UO2L(DMF); DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide), has been synthesized by solvothermal reactions. Crystallographic evidence of this series unveiled one-dimensional chains of UO22+ as pentagonal-bipyramidal units bridged by pyridinedicarboxylate with no defined, crystallographically unique site containing Eu, even for the products with high concentrations of Eu in this series. However, emission bands characteristic of Eu3+ were clearly observed in every product along with the characteristic uranyl-emission feature when observed with UV-vis fluorescence spectroscopy. Laser-ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry indicated that europium was concomitant with uranium, corroborating the incorporation of europium into crystals of UO2L(DMF). Systematic control of the solvent ratio (VH2O/VDMF) in each reaction gives rise to an enrichment of Eu3+ in the interior of UO2L(DMF). In addition, the color of emission of these compounds changed significantly from bright red to bright green with decreasing Eu content. This phenomenon occurs from the highly efficient energy transfer between the UO22+ and Eu3+ centers within each sample, providing the first case of a tunable 4f/5f bimodal emission in a mixed 4f/5f-elements-bearing metal-organic-hybrid material.

Abstract:A series of new lanthanide metal–organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) [Ln2(L)3(H2O)4]·2H2O (1) (Ln = Eu, Tb, Gd), and [Gd2(H2O)4(L)(C2O4)2]·3H2O (2) were synthesized based on 4-hydroxypyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid (H2L) under hydrothermal conditions. 1 exhibits isomorphous 2D wave-like networks constructed by paddle-wheel [Ln(L)3] units and LnO4(H2O)4 polyhedra. 2 shows a (4,4)-connected 3D framework with a Schlafli symbol of 66. Oxalic acid in the resulting framework of 2 is formed in situ under hydrothermal conditions. Luminescence studies indicate that 1-Eu and 1-Tb show characteristic red and green emissions of the corresponding Ln3+ ions, respectively, while 1-Gd and 2 exhibit blue emission arising from the H2L ligand. Then, by adjusting the co-doping ratio of three different Ln3+ ions into the same framework as that of 1, a novel doped Ln-MOF, [(Eu0.0073Tb0.0007Gd0.992)2(H2O)4(L)3]·2H2O (3), is successfully designed and synthesized, which shows white light emission upon excitation at 340 nm and its emission can also be switched between different colors. In addition, 1-Gd shows weak ferromagnetic interactions.

Abstract:Three isomorphic lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) [LnL(H2O)2]·2H2O (Ln=Tb for 1, Eu for 2, Gd for 3) have been constructed from flexible organic ligand 4-(2-carboxyphenoxy)benzene-1,3-dioic acid (H3L). They exhibit two-dimensional (2D) layered structure with the rhombus windows along the b axis. This network can be described as a shubnikov plane net with Schäfli symbol of (43)2(46.66.83). Solid state luminescent studies indicate that 1 and 2 show the characteristic red, and green emissions of the corresponding Ln3+ ions, respectively, while 3 exhibits blue emission arising from the organic ligand. Then by adjusting the relative amounts of different luminescent components into the well-defined host framework, a series of new co-doped Ln-MOF, Tb1−xEuxL (4) (x refers to the molar ratios of Eu3+ and Tb3+), with tunable luminescence have been fabricated. The luminescent color of 4 can be tuned from green to red due to the energy transfer from the Tb3+ to Eu3+ ions by changing the doping concentration of the Eu3+ ions. In addition, 2 exhibits good stability in different solvents and excellent fluorescence sensing for small molecules, especially for CH3CN and nitrobenzene.

Abstract:In this study, we report the luminescence color tuning in the lanthanide metal-organic framework (LnMOF) ([La(bpdc)Cl(DMF)] (1); bpdc2− = [1,1′-biphenyl]-4,4′-dicarboxylate, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide) by introducing dual emission properties in a La3+ MOF scaffold through doping with the blue fluorescent 2,2′-diamino-[1,1′-biphenyl]-4,4′-dicarboxylate (dabpdc2−) and the red emissive Eu3+. With a careful adjustment of the relative doping levels of the lanthanide ions and bridging ligands, the color of the luminescence was modulated, while at the same time the photophysical characteristics of the two chromophores were retained. In addition, the photophysical properties of the parent MOF (1) and its doped counterparts with various dabpdc2−/bpdc2− and Eu3+/La3+ ratios and the photoinduced energy transfer pathways that are possible within these materials are discussed. Finally, the temperature dependence study on the emission profile of a doped analogue containing 10% dabpdc2− and 2.5% Eu3+ (7) is presented, highlighting the potential of this family of materials to behave as temperature sensors.

Abstract:Trivalent lanthanide ions (Ln3+) hold an exceptional position in the field of optoelectronic materials due to their atomic-like emission spectra and long luminescence lifetimes. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and coordination polymers are particularly suited as luminescent materials due to their structural diversity and ease of functionalization both at bridging ligands and/or metal centers. In this contribution, we present a series of mixed-metal Ln3+/Eu3+ (Ln = La, Gd) and mixed-ligand (2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate (ndc2-) and 4-aminonaphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylate (andc2-)) MOFs belonging to three different structural types, with emissions spanning most of the visible region, thereby constituting favorable materials for color tuning and white-light emission. We investigate the thermal stability and photophysical properties of the synthesized materials with regard to their metal and ligand doping levels and structural type, where we discuss excimer and monomer emission. The photophysical study, involving both steady-state and time-resolved luminescence measurements, allows us to discuss the possible energy migration and Eu3+ sensitization pathways that take place within these materials following ligand excitation. Low-temperature luminescence studies led us to determine the energies of the ligand-based excited states and investigate their participation in thermally activated energy transfer mechanisms within the studied lattices. We observe emission quantum yields of up to 87% for the Eu3+-doped materials, while their ligand- and metal-doped counterparts show decreased quantum yields of up to 17%. Finally, we attempt fine color tuning by carefully adjusting the doping levels to achieve yellow and white-light emission.

Abstract:A series of lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) are synthesized through solvothermal conditions with 1,3-bis(4-carboxyphenyl) imidazolium (H2L). Owing to the lanthanide contraction effect, two different types of Ln-MOFs, namely, {[Ln(L)(2)(OH)]center dot 3H(2)O}(n) (Ln:Pr, Nd, Sm) and {[Ln(L)(2)(COO) (H2O)(2)]center dot H2O}(n) (Ln:Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Tm, Yb, Y), and their corresponding codoped Ln-MOFs EuxTb1-xL are obtained. With careful adjustment of the relative concentration of the lanthanide ions and the excitation wavelength, the color of the luminescence can be systematically modulated and white light emission can be further successfully achieved. Furthermore, by virtue of the temperature-dependent luminescent behavior, Eu0.2Tb0.8L allows for the design of a thermometer with an excellent linear response to temperature over a wide range, from 40 to 300 K. This work highlights the practical applications of Ln-MOFs for tailoring fluorescent color and even obtaining practical white light emission, and especially for sensing temperature as luminescent thermometers in a single framework by controlling in different ways.

Abstract:A novel N-heterocycle multicarboxylate ligand 4-(3,5-dicarboxyphenyl)pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid (H4dpda) was synthesized, and then reacted with lanthanide salts to yield a series of lanthanide metal–organic frameworks, [Ln(Hdpda)(H2O)4]·0.5(H2O) (Ln=Eu(1), Gd(2), Tb(3), Dy(4)) and [Tb1−xEux(Hdpda)(H2O)4]·0.5(H2O) (x=0.1–10mol%). Single crystal X-ray diffraction and powder XRD patterns confirm these MOFs are isostructural. Luminescent measurements suggest that the ligand can provide efficient sensitization for the lanthanide ion Tb(III) and Eu(III) in the mixed lanthanide MOFs. Additionally, the luminescence color of the mixed MOFs can be easily tuned from green to green–yellow, yellow, orange, red–orange and red by varying the molar ratio of Eu(III)/Tb(III).

Abstract:Lanthanide-doped nanoparticles exhibit unique luminescent properties, including large Stokes shift, sharp emission bandwidth, high resistance to optical blinking, and photobleaching, as well as the unique ability to convert long-wavelength stimulation into short-wavelength emission. These attributes are particularly needed for developing luminescent labels as alternatives to organic fluorophores and quantum dots. In recent years, the well-recognized advantages of upconversion nanocrystals as biomarkers have been manifested in many important applications, such as highly sensitive molecular detection and autofluorescence-free cell imaging. However, their potential in multiplexed detection and multicolor imaging is rarely exploited, largely owing to the research lagging on multicolor tuning of these particles. Lanthanide doping typically involves an insulating host matrix and a trace amount of lanthanide dopants embedded in the host lattice. The luminescence observed from these doped crystalline materials primarily originates from electronic transitions within the [Xe]4f(n) configuration of the lanthanide dopants. Thus a straightforward approach to tuning the emission is to dope different lanthanide activators in the host lattice. Meanwhile, the host lattice can exert a crystal field around the lanthanide dopants and sometimes may even exchange energy with the dopants. Therefore, the emission can also be modulated by varying the host materials. Recently, the advance in synthetic methods toward high quality core-shell nanocrystals has led to the emergence of new strategies for emission modulation. These strategies rely on precise control over either energy exchange interactions between the dopants or energy transfer involving other optical entities. To provide a set of criteria for future work in this field, we attempt to review general and emerging strategies for tuning emission spectra through lanthanide doping. With significant progress made over the past several years, we now are able to design and fabricate nanoparticles displaying tailorable optical properties. In particular, we show that, by rational control of different combinations of dopants and dopant concentration, a wealth of color output can be generated under single-wavelength excitation. Strikingly, unprecedented single-band emissions can be obtained by careful selection of host matrices. By incorporating a set of lanthanide ions at defined concentrations into different layers of a core-shell structure, the emission spectra of the particles are largely expanded to cover almost the entire visible region, which is hardly accessible by conventional bulk phosphors. Importantly, we demonstrate that an inert-shell coating provides the particles with stable emission against perturbation in surrounding environments, paving the way for their applications in the context of biological networks.

Abstract:Luminescence-tunable multicolored LaF3:xCe3+,xGd3+,yEu3+ (x = 5; y = 1, 5, 10, and 15 mol%) nanoparticles have been synthesized via a low cost polyol method. Powder X-ray diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy studies confirm the hexagonal phase of the LaF3:xCe3+,xGd3+,yEu3+ nanophosphors with average sizes (oval shape) ranging from 5 to 7 nm. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analyses show the uniform distribution of Ce3+, Gd3+, and Eu3+ dopants in the LaF3 host matrix. The photoluminescence spectra and electron paramagnetic resonance measurements guarantee the presence of Eu2+, corroborated through DC susceptibility measurements of the samples displaying paramagnetic behavior at 300 K, whereas weak ferromagnetic ordering is shown at 2 K. The non-radiative energy transfer processes from the 4f(2F5/2) → 5d state (Ce3+) to the intraconfigurational 4f excited levels of rare earth ions and simultaneous emissions in the visible region from the 4f65d1 (Eu2+) and 5D0 (Eu3+) emitting levels, leading to overlapped broad and narrow emission bands, have been proclaimed. The energy transfer mechanism proposes involvement of the Gd3+ ion sub-lattice as the bridge and finally trapping by Eu2+/3+, upon excitation of the Ce3+ ion. The calculation of experimental intensity parameters (Ω2,4) has been discussed and the highest emission quantum efficiency (η = 85%) of the Eu3+ ion for the y = 10 mol% sample is reported. The advantageous existence of the Eu2+/Eu3+ ratio along with variously doped nanomaterials described in this work, results in tunable emission color in the blue-white-red regions, highlighting the potential application of the samples in solid-state lighting devices, scintillation devices, and multiplex detection.

Abstract:Lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) have exhibited remarkable capabilities in color change, luminescence, proton conduction through the strategic modification of metal nodes, organic ligands and channels or pores. By modifying the electron-deficient bipyridinium to contain carboxylic acid moieties and coordinating them with the luninescent Eu 3+ ion, a unique and versatile Eu-MOF has been synthesized. Under UV light conditions, the complex shows an obvious color change from colorless to blue, which is due to the formation of viologen radicals after photoinduced electron transfer (PIET) process. As we all know, the changed color is caused by the alteration of absorption intensity, ultimately impacting its luminescence as well. Thus, the bright and strong red fluorescence of this complex is quenched upon continuous UV light irradiation, which may be attributed to intramolecular energy transfer from the excited state of the europium ion to the colored state of the CV ligand. Based on the control of multiple colors of the complex, the designed encryption model can realize multiple anti-counterfeiting of real numbers. In addition, the conductivity of this compound increases significantly after UV illumination, showing excellent photo-modulated proton conductivity. In short, our work has proposed a multifunctional bipyridinium-based Ln-MOF with photochromism, photo-switchable photoluminescence and proton conduction, which offers valuable insights for the creation of versatile switchable materials based on MOFs.
