Abstract:Objective To evaluate patient use of and satisfaction with the Carelink remote monitoring system.Methods From January 2012 to October 2013,a total of 215 patients from 12 centers in China who had previously undergone pacemaker,implantable cardioverter defibrillator or cardiac resynchronization therapy implantation were enrolled.The subjects received the Carelink monitor and were taught to perform home device interrogation and transmission.Patient acceptance of and satisfaction with the system were evaluated through questionnaires.Results One hundred and sixty-one patients completed questionnaires at 3 months and 95.03％ of them felt that the Carelink monitor was easy to use.Overall,patients reported a general preference for remote monitoring versus in-clinic follow-up.Conclusion The Carelink remote monitoring system is easy to use and patients show high satisfaction with the system.

Abstract:Objective: To conduct a preliminary evaluation for the usability of Carelink remote monitoring system by clinical physician. Methods: A total of 215 patients received cardiovascular implantable electronic devices (CIED) with Carelink remote monitoring function from 12 hospitals in China between 2012-01 and 2013-10 were prospectively enrolled. The patient's mean age was (62.3±14.3) years including 108 male and 107 female. There were 54 physicians completed questionnaire survey. Based on the type of CIED, the patients were divided into3 groups: PM (pace maker) group,n=110, ICD (implantable cardioverter defibrillator) group,n=54 and CRT (cardiac resynchronization therapy) group,n=51. The patients received routine hospital visit at 3 months of CIED implantation and meanwhile, they performed device data transmission at 3 and 6 months of Carelink remote monitoring. The time physician spent to evaluate data was collected at 3 months and the questionnaire survey was completed by physician at 6 months after CIED implantation. Results: All 54 physicians felt that Carelink remote monitoring system was simple to operate and easy to use. There were 147 patients ifnished hospital visit at 3 months after CIED implantation, the mean time for physician to evaluate data was (14.8±8.4) min; 150 patients ifnished Carelink remote monitor at 3 months after CIED implantation, the mean time for physician to evaluate data was (8.2 ±4.6) min,P<0.0001.Conclusion: Carelink remote monitoring system was easy to use, it may save time in follow-up study which with high satisfaction in clinical practice.
Performance Evaluation of the Glunovo® Continuous Blood Glucose Monitoring System in Chinese Participants with Diabetes: A Multicenter, Self-Controlled Trial

Abstract:The present study was aimed to evaluate the performance and safety of the Glunovo® real-time continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS) in monitoring interstitial fluid glucose in adult participants with diabetes (at least 18 years old) using venous blood glucose as control. This was a multicenter, self-controlled clinical trial, conducted in participants with diabetes from China, between March 2019 to October 2019. The CGMS was used by all the participants for a 14-day wear-in period. The real-time glucose values measured by Glunovo® CGMS were compared with venous blood glucose values measured by the Entwicklung, Konstruktion und Fertigung (EKF) blood glucose detector. The primary outcomes were the consistency rate of CGMS readings and venous blood glucose values (20/20% standard). A total of 78 participants (41 men, 37 women) and 156 CGMS sensors were included in the study. Among the included participants, 25 and 53 participants had type 1 and type 2 diabetes, respectively, with median age of 52.50 years (range 32–62 years). The overall agreement rate (20/20%) was 89.71% (95% CI 89.18–90.24%). It was observed that 99.08% (95% CI 98.91–99.24%) and 99.82% (95% CI 99.74–99.89%) of the measuring points fell within the A + B zones of the Clarke error grid analysis and Parkes/consensus error grid analysis, respectively. The mean absolute relative difference was 10.30% ± 4.86%. The probability of a glucose measurement falling within a range, when stratified by venous glucose measurements, ranged from 7.14% for 19.44–22.22 mmol/L to 79.21% for 4.44–6.67 mmol/L. There were 73 (41.24%) and 27 (57.45%) successful CGMS alarms for hypoglycemic and hyperglycemic events, respectively. From the results, Glunovo® CGMS had excellent accuracy and limited clinical risk compared with venous blood glucose in the range of 2.2–22.2 mmol/L over 14 days.

Abstract:AIMS/INTRODUCTION:The present study aimed to investigate the performance of a new real-time continuous glucose monitoring system. MATERIALS AND METHODS:Interstitial glucose levels were monitored for 7 days in 63 patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes using the Medtrum A6 TouchCare® CGM System. Venous blood was collected on a randomized day of the wear period. Plasma glucose levels were measured as reference values. RESULTS:Among 1,678 paired sensor-reference values, 90.5% (95% confidence interval 89.1-91.9%) were within ±20%/20 mg/dL of the reference values, with a mean absolute relative difference of 9.1 ± 8.7% (95% CI: 8.9-9.2%). The percentages of paired sensor-reference values falling within zone A and B of the Clarke error grid analysis (EGA) and the type 1 diabetes consensus EGA were 99.1 and 99.8%. Continuous EGA showed that the percentages of accurate readings, benign errors, and erroneous readings were 89.9, 6.3 and 3.8%, respectively. Surveillance EGA showed that 90.6, 9.2, and 0.2% of sensor-reference values with no, slight and lower moderate risk, respectively. The mean absolute relative difference was 16.6, and 96.0% of the sensor values fell within zones A and B of the consensus EGA for hypoglycemia. More than 85% of sensor values were within ±20%/20 mg/dL of reference values, the mean absolute relative difference was <11, and >99.5% of the sensor values fell in zones A and B of the consensus EGA. CONCLUSIONS:The Medtrum real-time continuous glucose monitoring system was numerically and clinically accurate over a large glucose range across 7 days of wear.

Abstract:Background: In this multicenter study, performance of a novel continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system was evaluated. Methods: Adult participants with diabetes were included in the study. They each wore three sensors of the CGM system on the upper arms for up to 14 days. During four in-clinic visits, frequent comparison measurements with capillary blood glucose (BG) samples were performed. The primary endpoint was the 20/20 agreement rate (AR): the percentage of CGM readings within ±20 mg/dL (at BG values <100 mg/dL) or ±20% (at BG values ≥100 mg/dL) of the comparator. Further evaluations included mean absolute relative difference (MARD) and 20/20 AR in different BG ranges and across the wear time. Results: Data from 48 participants and 139 sensors were analyzed. During in-clinic sessions the 20/20 AR was 90.5% and the MARD was 9.2%. For BG ranges <70, 70-180, and >180 mg/dL, 20/20 AR was 94.3%, 89.0%, and 92.5%, respectively. At the beginning, middle, and end of sensor wear time, 20/20 AR was 92.8%, 91.5%, and 85.9%, respectively. The 14-day survival probability was 82.4%. Pain and bleeding after sensor insertion were within the expected range. Based on the study outcome, the use of the device is regarded as safe. Conclusions: The system showed a good performance compared to capillary BG measurements. This level of accuracy could be shown over the entire measurement range, especially in the low glycemic range, and the whole wear time of the sensors. The results of this study are supporting a non-adjunctive use of the device.

Abstract:Blood glucose monitoring is vital for controlling the complications of diabetes. We propose a noninvasive blood glucose monitor featuring multi-sensor fusion, which functions well for rapid yet accurate blood glucose monitoring and screening of diabetes. The characteristic parameters of diabetics were extracted by applying one-factor analysis of variance, and a classification model was established via principal components analysis and discriminant analysis to identify whether the subjects suffer from diabetes. In light of the challenges for noninvasive blood glucose monitoring modelling brought by different pathogeneses, disease processes and complicated complications of different diabetics, the subjects were classified into different categories via unsupervised K-means clustering algorithm and modelled for each category separately for expanded coverage and improved accuracy. The accuracy was clinically evaluated in 254 volunteers with type II diabetes. The results in the Parkes error grid were as follows: 58.33% in Zone A, 39.43% in Zone B and 2.24% in Zone C, with a correlation coefficient of 0.69 and a root mean squared error of 2.67 mmol/L. In 2019, the monitor was certified by the National Medical Products Administration of China as the first Class III Medical Device.
Effectiveness of a WeChat Combined Continuous Flash Glucose Monitoring System on Glycemic Control in Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus Management: Randomized Controlled Trial.

Abstract:Purpose: Smartphones have received increasing attention and achieved positive outcomes in diabetes intervention. The widespread use of WeChat in China provides an opportunity for self-management practices in patients with diabetes. Nevertheless, how to combine the strengths of the WeChat platform with traditional medical strategy remains to be explored. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a novel flash glucose monitoring device combined with the WeChat platform in juvenile type 1 diabetes management. Patients and Methods: A total of 60 juvenile patients with type 1 diabetes were randomly assigned into three groups: a blood glucose self-monitoring group (group A), a flash glucose monitoring (group B), and a flash glucose monitoring combined WeChat-interactive management group (group C). The intergroup differences in demographics, biochemical indicators, and questionnaire scores of the Diabetes Monitoring and Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire and Diabetes Specific Quality of Life assessment were compared at the baseline and after 6 months. Results: After the 6-month intervention, groups B and C showed significantly lower glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels compared to those observed at baseline (both P <0.05), with the largest decrease observed in group C (group B vs group C, P =0.04). Hypoglycemic episodes per month decreased from baseline in groups B and C (both P <0.05) and were more significant in group C (P <0.001). In addition, the DMTSQ scores increased in the 6th month in all groups (all P <0.05), and the largest rise in scores was found in group C, followed by groups B and A. The DQOL scores in groups B and C decreased significantly from the baseline (both P <0.05), with no change in group A. Conclusion: Flash glucose monitoring combined with the WeChat-interactive system may help achieve sustained glycemic control and higher satisfaction in patients with juvenile type 1 diabetes.
Establishment Of Normal Reference Ranges For Glycemic Variability In Chinese Subjects Using Continuous Glucose Monitoring

Abstract:Background: Glycemic variability is increasingly recognized as an important issue in diabetes management. However, the lack of normative values may limit its applicability in the clinical setting. The objective of this study was to establish preliminary normal reference ranges for glycemic variability by analyzing continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data obtained from healthy Chinese adults.Material/Methods: Three-day CGM data were obtained from 434 healthy adults at 10 academic hospitals throughout China. Glycemic variability was calculated as the 24-hour mean amplitude of glycemic excursions (MACE) and standard deviations (SD) of blood glucose readings.Results: 434 healthy subjects (male 213, female 221; age 43 +/- 14, 20-69 years old; BMI 21.8 +/- 1.7 kg/m(2), 18.5-24.9 kg/m(2)) completed the study. MACE and SD values for the 434 healthy subjects were 1.73 (1.08) mmol/L and 0.75 (0.42) mmol/L [median (interquartile range)], respectively. In both men and women, MACE and SD tended to increase with age. Neither MACE nor SD showed a significant difference between men and women. Values for both parameters were non-normally distributed within the population. The 95(th) percentiles of MACE and SD were 3.86 and 1.40 mmol/L, respectively. These values were adopted as the upper limits of normal.Conclusions: MACE <3.9 mmol/L and SD <1.4 mmol/L are recommended as the normal reference ranges for glycemic variability in Chinese adults. The values established in this study may facilitate the adoption of glycemic variability as a metric of overall glycemic control in diabetes.
Evaluating the Clinical Accuracy of a Non-invasive Single-Fasting-Calibration Glucometer in Patients with Diabetes: A Multicentre Study

Abstract:Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the stability and accuracy of glucose measurements determined using the metabolic heat conformation (MHC)-based non-invasive glucometer in a multicentre, self-controlled clinical trial. This device is the first to obtain a medical device registration certificate awarded by the National Medical Products Administration of China (NMPA). Methods: The multicentre clinical study was conducted at three sites and enrolled 200 subjects whose glucose was measured with a non-invasive glucometer (the Contour Plus blood glucose monitoring system) and by venous plasma glucose (VPG) measurements, in a fasted state and at 2 and 4 h after meals. Results: Based on both the non-invasive and VPG measurements, 93.9% (95% confidence interval 91.7-95.6%) of the blood glucose (BG) values fell within consensus error grid (CEG) zones A + B. The measurements obtained in a fasted state and at 2 h after meals were more accurate, with 99.0% and 97.0% of the BG values, respectively, falling within zones A + B. Compared to those subjects who received insulin, the proportion of values in zones A + B and the correlation coefficients were 3.1% and 0.0596 higher, respectively. The accuracy of the non-invasive glucometer was influenced by the level of insulin resistance calculated by the homeostatic model assessment method, which had a correlation coefficient with the mean absolute relative difference of - 0.1588 (P = 0.0001). Conclusion: The MHC-based non-invasive glucometer assessed in the present study demonstrates generally high stability and accuracy in the glucose monitoring of people with diabetes. The calculation model needs to be further explored and optimised for patients with different diabetes subtypes, levels of insulin resistance and insulin secretion capacity. Abstract:Managing diabetes is a chronic challenge today, requiring monitoring and timely insulin injections to maintain stable blood glucose levels. Traditional clinical testing relies on fingertip or venous blood collection, which has facilitated the emergence of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology to address data limitations. Continuous glucose monitoring technology is recognized for tracking long-term blood glucose fluctuations, and its development, particularly in wearable devices, has given rise to compact and portable continuous glucose monitoring devices, which facilitates the measurement of blood glucose and adjustment of medication. This review introduces the development of wearable CGM-based technologies, including noninvasive methods using body fluids and invasive methods using implantable electrodes. The advantages and disadvantages of these approaches are discussed as well as the use of microneedle arrays in minimally invasive CGM. Microneedle arrays allow for painless transdermal puncture and are expected to facilitate the development of wearable CGM devices. Finally, we discuss the challenges and opportunities and look forward to the biomedical applications and future directions of wearable CGM-based technologies in biological research.

Abstract:Background: The development of accurate, minimally invasive continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices has been the subject of much work by several groups, as it is believed that a less invasive and more user-friendly device will result in greater adoption of CGM by persons with insulin-dependent diabetes. Methods: This article presents the results of preliminary clinical studies in subjects with diabetes of a novel prototype microneedle-based continuous glucose monitor. In this device, an array of tiny hollow microneedles is applied into the epidermis from where glucose in interstitial fluid (ISF) is transported via passive diffusion to an amperometric glucose sensor external to the body. Results: Comparison of 1396 paired device glucose measurements and fingerstick blood glucose readings for up to 72-hour wear in 10 diabetic subjects shows the device to be accurate and well tolerated by the subjects. Overall mean absolute relative difference (MARD) is 15% with 98.4% of paired points in the A+B region of the Clarke error grid. Conclusions: The prototype device has demonstrated clinically accurate glucose readings over 72 hours, the first time a microneedle-based device has achieved such performance.

Abstract:Background: While evidence supports glycemic control benefits for individuals with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) using hybrid closed-loop (HCL) systems, HCL automated insulin delivery therapy in China has not been assessed. This study evaluated safety events and effectiveness during HCL system use by Chinese adolescents and adults with T1DM.Methods: Sixty-two participants (n = 12 adolescents with a mean +/- standard deviation [SD] of 15.5 +/- 1.1 years and n = 50 adults [mean +/- SD of 37.6 +/- 11.1 years]) with T1DM and baseline A1C of 7.1% +/- 1.0% underwent a run-in period (similar to 2 weeks) using open-loop Manual Mode (sensor-augmented pump) insulin delivery with the MiniMed (TM) 770G system with the Guardian (TM) Sensor (3) glucose sensor, followed by a study period (4 weeks) with HCL Auto Mode enabled. Analyses compared continuous glucose monitoring data and insulin delivered during the run-in versus study period (Wilcoxon signed-rank test or t-test). Safety events included rates of severe hypoglycemia and diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).Results: Compared to baseline run-in, overall Auto Mode use increased time in range (TIR, 70-180 mg/dL) from 75.3% to 80.9% (P < 0.001) and reduced time below range (TBR, <70 mg/dL) from 4.7% to 2.2% (P < 0.001). Subgroup analysis demonstrated that participants (n = 29) with baseline A1C <7.0% had TBR that reduced from 5.6% to 2.0%, while participants (n = 21) with baseline A1C >= 7.5% had time above range (TAR, >180 mg/dL) that reduced from 31.6% to 20.8%. Auto Mode use also increased the percentage achieving combined recommendations for time at sensor glucose ranges (i.e., TIR of >70%, TBR of <4% and TAR of <25%) from 24.2% at baseline to 77.4% at study end. Total daily insulin dose reduced from 42.8 +/- 19.8 to 40.7 +/- 18.9 U (P = 0.013). There were no severe hypoglycemic, DKA, or serious adverse events.Conclusions: Chinese adolescents and adults, some of whom met target A1C at baseline, safely achieved significantly improved glycemia with 1 month of MiniMed 770G system use when compared to open-loop insulin delivery. Development and validation of a non-invasive assessment tool for screening prevalent undiagnosed diabetes in middle-aged and elderly Chinese

Abstract:To develop a non-invasive assessment tool and compare it to other assessment tools among middle-aged and elderly Shanghainese, 15,309 individuals, who were 45-70 years old, not previously diagnosed with diabetes, and from a cross-sectional survey conducted between April 2013 and August 2014 in Shanghai, were selected into this study. The participants were randomly assigned to either the exploratory group or the validation group. Undiagnosed diabetes was defined according to the American Diabetes Association diagnostic criteria, and score points were generated according to the logistic regression coefficients. Age, family history of diabetes, hypertension, overweight/obesity, and central obesity all contributed to the constructed model, the Shanghai Nicheng diabetes screening score, with the area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve (AUC) being 0.654 (95% CI 0.637-0.670) in the exploratory group and 0.669 (95% CI 0.653-0.686) in the validation group. The score value of 6 was the optimal cut-point with the largest Youden's index. When applied to the validation group, our model had a similar discriminative ability to the New Chinese Diabetes Risk Score (AUC: 0.669 vs. 0.662, p = 0.187), and performed better than other screening scores for Chinese. However, our model was inferior to fasting plasma glucose, 2-hour plasma glucose, and glycosylated hemoglobin in detecting prevalent undiagnosed diabetes (AUC: 0.669 (0.653-0.686) vs. 0.881 (0.868-0.894), 0.934 (0.923-0.944), and 0.834 (0.819-0.848), all p < 0.001). Although non-invasive models, based on demographic and clinical information, are advisable in resource-scarce developing areas, regular blood glucose screening is still necessary among those aged 45 or older.

METHODS The clinical study was conducted at three sites on 200 subjects who received glucose measurement with a non-invasive glucometer, the Contour Plus blood glucose monitoring system, and venous plasma glucose (VPG) measurements, in a fasted state and at 2 and 4 hours after meals. Trial Registration: ChiCTR1900020523. RESULTS The non-invasive and VPG measurements showed 93.9% (95% CI, 91.7–95.6%) of the values in zone A + B in a Consensus Error Grid. The measurements obtained in a fasted state and at 2 hours after meals are more accurate, with 99.0% and 97.0% of the values in zone A + B, respectively. The proportion of values in zone A + B and the correlation coefficients in subjects who did not receive insulin were 3.1% and 0.0596 higher than in those who received insulin. The accuracy of the non-invasive glucometer was influenced by the level of islet cell function and insulin resistance, which had a correlation coefficient with the MARD of -0.0961 (p=0.020) and -0.1577 (p=0.00012), respectively. CONCLUSIONS The MHC-based non-invasive glucometer demonstrates generally high stability and accuracy in the glucose monitoring of diabetic patients. The calculation model needs to be further explored and optimised for patients with different diabetes subtypes, levels of insulin resistance and insulin secretion capacity. Abstract:Aim. - Sensor-augmented pump (SAP) technology, which combines continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) and real-time continuous glucose monitoring (RT-CGM), has been available for several years in China. In this study, the time required to reach predefined glycaemic targets with SAP vs multiple daily injection (MDI) therapy was compared in hospitalized patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods. - Adults (aged 18-65 years) with T2DM treated with insulin and admitted to hospital for glucose management were randomized to either SAP (Medtronic MiniMed (TM) Paradigm (TM) 722 system) or MDI with blinded CGM (Medtronic MiniMed CGMS System Gold (TM)) for a 2-week period. Glycaemic targets were defined as three preprandial measurements between 80 and 130 mg/dL (4.4 and 7.2 mmol/L) and three 2-h postprandial measurements between 80 and 180 mg/dL (4.4 and 10.0 mmol/L) within the same day. Results. - When data from 81 patients (40 SAP, 41 MDI) were analysed, 21 patients using SAP therapy, compared with six using MDI therapy, achieved their glycaemic targets within 3 days, and their time to reach their glucose targets was significantly shorter (3.7 +/- 1.1 vs 6.3 +/- 3.1 days for MDI; P < 0.001), while three MDI patients failed to reach glycaemic targets within 14 days. SAP vs MDI patients experienced significantly less hypoglycaemia [sensor glucose < 50 mg/dL (2.8 mmol/L): 0.04% vs 0.32%, respectively; P < 0.05] and significantly less hyperglycaemia [sensor glucose > 180 mg/dL (10 mmol/L): 21.56% vs 35.03%, respectively; P < 0.05]. Conclusion. - SAP vs MDI therapy in hospitalized patients with T2DM significantly reduced the time required to achieve glycaemic targets, and such systems may be a cost-effective way to improve glucose control and reduce hospital stays in T2DM patients. Abstract:The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a smart non-invasive blood glucose monitor prototype during pregnancy through clinical validation. The monitor utilizes near-infrared spectroscopy combined with AI big data analysis of photoelectric volumetric pulse wave data to achieve non-invasive monitoring of blood glucose in women during pregnancy. The research team developed a monitor that employs a sensing chip, effectively overcoming the problems of weak signals and individual differences in non-invasive blood glucose monitoring. The user experience is enhanced by visualizing the test results on the accompanying cell phone APP (application) of the smart non-invasive pregnancy blood glucose monitor. Clinical validation revealed that the non-invasive monitoring data for pregnant women aged 20~30 years significantly differed from those obtained via traditional blood glucose measurement methods, whereas no significant difference ( P<0.05) was observed for pregnant women aged 31~42 years. The study concluded that further calibration of the monitor and an expansion of the sample size are necessary to enhance consistency with invasive glucose monitoring results.

Abstract:Background: The new Contour ® Plus ONE blood glucose monitoring system (BGMS) features an easy-to-use, wireless-enabled blood glucose meter that links to a smart mobile device via Bluetooth ® connectivity and can sync with the Contour TM Diabetes app on a smartphone or tablet. Methods: The accuracy of the new BGMS was assessed in 2 studies according to ISO 15197:2013 criteria. In Study 1 (laboratory study), fingertip capillary blood samples from 100 subjects were tested in duplicate using 3 test strip lots. In Study 2 (clinical study), 134 subjects with type 1 or type 2 diabetes enrolled at 2 clinical sites. BGMS results and YSI analyzer (YSI) reference results were compared for fingertip blood obtained by untrained subjects’ self-testing and for study staff–obtained fingertip, subject palm, and venous results. Results: In Study 1, 99.0% (594/600) of combined results for all 3 test strip lots fulfilled ISO 15197:2013 Section 6.3 accuracy criteria. In Study 2, 99.2% (133/134) of subject-obtained capillary fingertip results, 99.2% (133/134) of study staff–obtained fingertip results, 99.2% (125/126) of subject-obtained palm results, and 100% (132/132) of study staff–obtained venous results met ISO 15197:2013 Section 8 accuracy criteria. Moreover, 95.5% (128/134) of subject-obtained fingertip self-test results were within ±10 mg/dl (±0.6 mmol/L) or ±10% of the YSI reference result. Questionnaire results showed that most subjects found the BGMS easy to use. Conclusions: The BGMS exceeded ISO 15197:2013 accuracy criteria both in the laboratory and in a clinical setting when used by untrained subjects with diabetes.

Abstract:Diabetes has become a severe health threat in China, owing to its increasing prevalence, long-term morbidity, and mortality. This study evaluated the association between adherence to blood glucose self-monitoring guidance and glycemic control among patients with T2DM A 12-week mHealth-based prospective cohort study was conducted. A total of 14,084 patients from 242 hospitals were enrolled. Most patients (73.3%) had <4 times SMBG testing per week, and these patients were significantly older, mostly males, had a longer duration of diabetes, lower income and received less education than patients with better adherence. Larger HbA1c reduction was observed in patients with 4-7 and ≥7 times of SMBG testing per week compared to patients with <4 times of SMBG testing per week (LS mean difference [95% CI]: -0.10 [-0.18, -0.02], and -0.17 [-0.26, -0.08], respectively, and this was more prominent in patients with baseline HbA1c >9%. The benefit of improving adherence to SMBG guidance was consistently found for FBG reduction, HbA1c, and FBG target rate. The study demonstrated a positive relationship between adherence and glycemic control and identified patient characteristics with poorer adherence for further customization of mHealth.

Abstract:Monitoring of blood glucose levels is important to persons with diabetes or pre-diabetic, abnormal glucose indications. Such individuals must determine when insulin is needed to reduce glucose levels in their bodies, or when additional glucose must be administered to raise levels. A conventional technique used by many diabetics to personally monitor their glucose level includes the periodic drawing of blood, the application of blood to a test strip, and determination of blood glucose level using calorimetric, electrochemical, or photometric detection. This technique does not permit continuous or automatic monitoring of levels in the body, but typically must be performed manually, and on a periodic basis. Unfortunately, checking consistency varies widely among individuals, where wide variation of high or low levels of glucose or other analytes may have detrimental effects. The ongoing capture of data through continuous and/or automatic in vivo monitoring of analyte levels, and its inclusion with a user-friendly computer interface, is now possible using a subcutaneous implanted sensor. Such devices are small and comfortable when used, allowing a wide range of life activities. In this technology review we propose one promising model using a combination of emerging, systems-based technologies in non-invasive analyte monitoring, as integrated within household-based health monitoring using home appliances.
