Abstract:Objective To discuss the clinical application of fluoroscopy- guided percutaneous gastrostomy in treating dysphagia caused by oropharyngeal neoplasm, and to assess its value in improving patientu0027s nutrition condition. Methods A total of 21 patients with dysphagia caused by oropharyngeal neoplasm were treated with fluoroscopy- guided percutaneous gastrostomy. The clinical data were retrospectively analyzed. Before and 1, 3 and 6 months after the percutaneous gastrostomy, the nutrition indexes, including hemoglobin, total serum protein, serum album, transferring and body- mass index were determined. The results were analyzed, and the complications were discussed. Results Fluoroscopy- guided percutaneous gastrostomy was successfully accomplished in all the 21 patients with a technical success rate of100%. One, 3 and 6 months after the percutaneous gastrostomy, the hemoglobin, total serum protein, serum album, transferring and body- mass index showed different degrees of improvement, and the changes were statistically significant when compared with those data determined before the percutaneous gastrostomy(P 0.05). The complication rate was 14.3%(3/21) and the infection rate was 4.7%(1/21). Conclusion Fluoroscopy- guided percutaneous gastrostomy is an effective, simple and safe method to treat dysphagia caused by oropharyngeal neoplasm, and it can effectively improve patientu0027s nutrition state. Besides, the technical manipulation can be well tolerated by the patients.
