Abstract:The construction of standardized spectral database for typical objects of land surface aims to push development and application of quantitative remote sensing. The database is composed of four main parts including spectral database, model database, prior knowledgebase, and image database. The spectral database contains collection of existed spectral data, with quality evaluation, and collection of new spectral data together with corresponding parameters based on the new standard and criterion. The image database mainly contains a set of typical image data, which are synchronous to the ground spectral measurements obtained by different sensors. The prior knowledgebase widely includes such as data of LULC in different scales, DEM data, phenology data etc. The model database mainly contains models for spectral simulation, and includes also some general models for processing images. The model database is a key part of the spectral database. Though model simulation, database can provide characteristic spectral curves in different phases, scales and states. Furthermore, this database also includes demonstration of typical applications, which can make user to master application method of database quickly and exploit the application field of spectral database according to the detailed requirements. The construction of spectral database mainly provide some functions according to different users as follows: user management, upload and download of spectral data, management and transfer of prior knowledge, query of spectral data and corresponding parameters, model computing, query of remote sensing image, application demonstration, system management, user communication and so on. The core product of database is to provide measured and simulated spectral data of typical ground objects

Abstract:Although the development of a spectral library has been a hot topic in China and abroad since the '90s, it has defects and cannot meet the demands of theoretical research and application of remote sensing nowadays. The gap is further extended for the featured agricultural remote sensing application in South China. Aiming at establishing a practical spectral library of South China's featured crops (including lichee, longan and sugarcane etc.), crop spectra and their environment parameters, application models are integrated based on Web techniques. The paper concentrates on the spectral data measurement method, store and organization, realization of querying and presentation and Web-interface design. It offers the details of regional featured crop spectra and an application demonstration for remote sensing application of spectral library of featured crops in South China.
Design of Spectra Instant-Collection System Based on VB 6.0

Abstract:A novel spectra instant-collection system developed with Visual Basic 6.0 is introduced. The system provides single and continued working styles for the spectra collection under the cooperation of spectrometer and step-motor, therefore, the operation of spectra collection can be simplified greatly. The experimental result shows that it has some useful reference value for the design of serial communication and USB master-slave system.

Abstract:Spectrum based water quality analyzer for comprehensive organic pollution index evaluating is a kind of green measurements with prosperous futures. Due to the low estimation precision of single-spectrum based analyzer and the complementary advantages of multi-spectrums, a modeling method based on information fusion of the ultra-violet absorption spectrum and the fluorescence emission spectrum is adopted for rapid measure of organic pollution indices such as COD, TOC, etc. A module structure is designed for portable realization to perform the field mobile tasks and rapid scene measurements. The experimental results show that this instrument possesses a better prediction capability than single UV based instruments popular in the market.

Abstract:A new architecture for HIPAS (Hyperspectral Image Processing and Analysis System V2.0) was introduced in this paper which was modified and improved based on the first version HIPAS V1.0. The comprehensive hyperspectral image analyzing system has been developed under VC++6.0 integrated development environment (IDE) and obtained perfect runtime efficiency and stability. The base architecture was specially designed and implemented to meet the requirements for the rapid preprocessing of imaging spectrometer data and easy prototyping of algorithms. Based on the modularized and object oriented software engineering construction, the architecture is compatible for other UNIX platforms with little modification. The most important components of HIPAS were presented in this paper including tools for input/output, preprocessing, data visualization, information extraction, conventional image analysis, advanced tools, and integrated interface to connect with general spectral databases. Some new methodologies for data analysis and processing were realized and applied to reach some valuable results based on the architecture including mineral identification, agriculture investigation, urban mapping etc. With an open storage architecture, HIPAS is entirely compatible with some advanced special commercial software such as ENVI(C) and ERDAS(C) and even the common image processing system Photoshop(C). At last, a strict and careful software test was carried out and the results were also analyzed and discussed.

Abstract:It is necessary to use libraries of parts when using CAD software. But, deficiencies and problems exist in most libraries, so we developed a part management system called GS-PM. Based on features, but not geometric information, it not only improves efficiency but also enables some applications of higher levels, for instance, the parts can be used in different CAD software. This part library can work in client/server mode to share information. It can also be applied to establish a customized visual part library (a Web part library), which can build parts dynamically according to the user's needs

Abstract:Field-measured spectra are critical for remote sensing physical modelling, retrieval of structural, biophysical, and biochemical parameters, and other practical applications. We present a library of field spectra, which includes (1) portable field spectroradiometer measurements of vegetation, soil, and snow in the full-wave band, (2) multi-angle spectra measurements of desert vegetation, chernozems, and snow with consideration of the anisotropic reflectance of land surface, (3) multi-scale spectra measurements of leaf and canopy of different vegetation cover surfaces, and (4) continuous reflectance spectra time-series data revealing vegetation growth dynamics of maize, rice, wheat, rape, grassland, and so on. To the best of our knowledge, this library is unique in simultaneously providing full-band, multi-angle, multi-scale spectral measurements of the main surface elements of China covering a large spatial extent over a 10-year period. Furthermore, the 101 by 101 satellite pixels of Landsat ETM/OLI and MODIS surface reflectance centered around the field site were extracted, providing a vital linkage between ground measurements and satellite observations. The code language used for this work is Matlab 2016a.

Abstract:A spectrum-tunable ground scenery spectrum radiation source, using LEDs and bromine tungsten lamp as luminescence media, was introduced. System structure and control of the spectrum radiation source was expounded in detail. In order to simulate various ground scenery spectrum distribution with different shapes, a ground scenery spectral database was established in the control system. An improved genetic algorithm was proposed, and a large number of ground scenery spectra were produced by the simulator. Spectral similarity and the average spectral matching error of several typical ground scenery spectra were further analyzed. Spectral similarity of red bands, green bands, blue bands and near-infrared spectral band also was discussed. When the radiance of the target was 50 W x (m2 x sr)(-1), the average spectral matching error was less than 10% and spectral similarity was greater than 0.9, up to 0.983. Spectral similarity of red band, green band, blue band and near-infrared band (especially green band and near-infrared band) was less than that of full-band. Compared with blue band and red band, spectral similarity of green band and near-infrared band low-amplitude maximum can rearch 50%. Ground scenery spectrum radiation source can be used as radiometric calibration source for optical remote sensor, and calibration error, which is caused by objectives and calibration sources spectral mismatch, can be effectively reduced.

Abstract:Hyperspectral remote sensing is becoming more and more important amongst remote sensing techniques. In this paper, we present a hyperspectral database (HyperDB) designed to cooperate with an embedded hyperspectral image processing system developed by the authors. Hyperspectral data are recognized and categorized by their land coverage class and band information, and can be imported from various sources such as airborne and spaceborne sensors carried by airplanes or satellites, as well as handhold instruments based on in situ ground observations. Spectral library files can be easily stored, indexed, viewed, and exported. Since HyperDB follows standard design principles—independence, data safety, and compatibility—it satisfies the practical demand for managing categorized hyperspectral data, and can be readily expanded to other peripheral applications.

Abstract:For detecting optical performance of space remote sensing spectrometer, the ground testing system is designed and implemented. The system consists of hardware and control software. The hardware consists of light source, mechanical motion subsystem, signal acquisition subsystem and computer. The control software is implemented in the Windows environment with Labview. The subdivision driving and the method of computing the number of steps considering error term are used to reduce the accumulation of errors in motor control. Scanning mechanism is controlled by specified wavelength scan or continuous wavelength scan, and the spectral curve is displayed in real-time. The SNR is calculated automatically, the area of interesting is fitted based on Gaussian fitting with generalized least squares, the bandwidth is read automatically. The experiment results show that the system can achieve detecting optical performance of space remote sensing spectrometer in full wave band automatically. The wavelength accuracy is better than +/- 0.05 nm, and the repeatability is better than 0.01 nm, the calculation of SNR is completed within 1 s. The spectral bandwidth is less than 1 nm. The system accomplishes the requirements, increases efficiency and lays the foundation for the development of aerospace load.
Machine Learning-Based Spectral Library for Crop Classification and Status Monitoring

Abstract:The establishment and application of a spectral library is a critical step in the standardization and automation of remote sensing interpretation and mapping. Currently, most spectral libraries are designed to support the classification of land cover types, whereas few are dedicated to agricultural remote sensing monitoring. Here, we gathered spectral observation data on plants in multiple experimental scenarios into a spectral database to investigate methods for crop classification (16 crop species) and status monitoring (tea plant and rice growth). We proposed a set of screening methods for spectral features related to plant classification and status monitoring (band reflectance, vegetation index, spectral differentiation, spectral continuum characteristics) that are based on ISODATA and JM distance. Next, we investigated the performance of different machine learning classifiers in the spectral library application, including K-nearest neighbor (KNN), Random Forest (RF), and a genetic algorithm coupled with a support vector machine (GA-SVM). The optimal combination of spectral features and the classifier with the highest classification accuracy were selected for crop classification and status monitoring scenarios. The GA-SVM classifier performed the best, which produced an accuracy of OAA = 0.94, Kappa = 0.93 for crop classification in a complex scenario (crops mixed with 71 non-crop plant species), and promising accuracies for tea plant growth monitoring (OAA = 0.98, Kappa = 0.97) and rice growth stage monitoring (OAA = 0.92, Kappa = 0.90). Therefore, the establishment of a plant spectral library combined with relevant feature extraction and a classification algorithm effectively supports agricultural monitoring by remote sensing.

Abstract:Spatial data organization in the new generation GIS platform is a key technique. An organizing method of feature-oriented spatial data was presented, and a model of feature-oriented object level (FOOL) was proposed. Spatial partitioning, spatial clustering and spatial indexing were discussed in detail. Based on the introduction of four-tier architecture, systematic database services, application interfaces and application services were analyzed. Based on the spatial data organization and systematic architecture, the function modules with massive spatial database management for the system were designed, and also the detailed object logic relation for the modules were explained. Based on analysis for the distributed computing environment and remote spatial data processing, an example of massive spatial database platform running in Linux and Oracle was given. The testing with 20 GB spatial data validates the correctness of FOOL, which shows that the systematic main aims of feature-object spatial data organizing, integrative massive spatial data management and distributed spatial data computing are implemented.

Abstract:Taking the Jiangsu tidal flat as an example and based on the field investigation on the tidal flat, the statistical analysis of spectral characteristics at typical sampling points was made and the discriminant functions of different ground objects were then established to distinguish between different ground objects on the tidal flat. Based on the discriminant analysis results, the spectral characteristics of different ground objects on the tidal flat were summarized, and the discriminating rule databank was establiched to support the identification of ground objects on the tidal flat. It is shown from the practical application that the remote sensing method can be used to quickly extract the tidal flat ground object informations from the landsat 7 ETM+ images.

Abstract:A rapid estimation system for soil parameters based on spectral analysis was developed by using object-oriented (OO) technology. A class of SOIL was designed. The instance of the SOIL class is the object of the soil samples with the particular type, specific physical properties and spectral characteristics. Through extracting the effective information from the modeling spectral data of soil object, a map model was established between the soil parameters and its spectral data, while it was possible to save the mapping model parameters in the database of the model. When forecasting the content of any soil parameter, the corresponding prediction model of this parameter can be selected with the same soil type and the similar soil physical properties of objects. And after the object of target soil samples was carried into the prediction model and processed by the system, the accurate forecasting content of the target soil samples could be obtained. The system includes modules such as file operations, spectra pretreatment, sample analysis, calibrating and validating, and samples content forecasting. The system was designed to run out of equipment. The parameters and spectral data files (*.xls) of the known soil samples can be input into the system. Due to various data pretreatment being selected according to the concrete conditions, the results of predicting content will appear in the terminal and the forecasting model can be stored in the model database. The system reads the predicting models and their parameters are saved in the model database from the module interface, and then the data of the tested samples are transferred into the selected model. Finally the content of soil parameters can be predicted by the developed system. The system was programmed with Visual C++6.0 and Matlab 7.0. And the Access XP was used to create and manage the model database.
Ground Motion Response Spectra Through Component Decomposition Method

Abstract:The large discreteness has been the key factor affecting the accurate estimation of design spectra in the statistical analysis of ground motion response spectrum. Long-period portion in ground motion response spectrum usually exhibit larger discreteness. To further study the response spectrum and its long-period characteristics,a comprehensive strong ground motion database was established. The strong motion records were divided into two categories,ordinary type and low-frequency type,by considering the characteristics of ground motion response spectrum;the digital filtering method was adopted to separate the long-period component from the low frequency type motions;then,a two-stage smooth harmonic model was introduced to simulate the separated component. Results show that response spectral characteristics of the filtered low frequency type motions are still very different from those of the ordinary type;there are some correlations in between low frequency motions,low frequency components and the filtered high and median frequency components. It is stressed that the design spectra of ordinary type ground motion and low frequency ground type motion must be calibrated separately. For ordinary motions,design spectra can be constructed by using the average spectra,while for low frequency motions design spectra can be obtained by modifying the spectra of the long period. The study not only provides a new approach to the analysis of response spectrum,but also is helpful in the precise calibrating of design spectra.
Demand-oriented Hyperspectral Database and Its Applications

Abstract:A hyperspectral image can be considered as all image cube where a spectral curve can be extracted from the third dimension. Usually the ground-based spectral data are used to be a numeric criterion or object-identifying evidence compared with hyperspectral image stored in a traditional spectral data base. This paper is to novelly introduce a demand-oriented hyperspectral database (DOHD), which comprehensively set ground-based spectra, standardized hyperspectral cube, spectral analysis together to meet some applications. Some data minim, ideas and functions were associated into DORD to make it more suitable to serve in agriculture, geological and environmental areas. DOHD is based on J2EE in China and designed by MVC architecture including five main functional modules: Data importer/exporter, Image/spectrum Viewer, Data Processor, Parameter Extractor, and On-line Analyzer. The original data were all stored in ORACLE 91 for efficient search, query and update; the analytical models were developed by JavaBeans and PL/SQL for convenient extension and better compatibility; and the interfaces were presented by JSP for friendly interaction. Finally an application case is presented in agricultural area.
