General Situations and Prospects of Soil Classification in Hunan Province

Abstract:Based on introducing the 3rd general soil survey in Hunan province, the six classification units of soil taxonomy in Hunan province were expatiated, including Soil Order, Soil Great Group, Subgroup, Soil Family, Soil Species and Subspecies. Moreover, the general research situations of soil genetic classification and systematic classification in Hunan province from 1965 to now were summarized. The results indicated that same as the other provinces and cities in China, the presented soil taxonomy in Hunan province has some problems, such as lacking of quantification, standardization and internationalization, thus prospecting the broad future for investigation of soil taxonomy and research of basic categories of soil classification in Hunan province.
