Abstract:OBJECTIVE To review the chemical constituents from Camptotheca acuminate Decne and report bioactivities,which provides detailed information for further investigations and applications of C.acuminate,a plant resource endemic to China.METHODS Based on 39 domestic and foreign literatures,the analysis,induction and summarization of chemical constituents and bioactivities of C.acuminate.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION The major chemical components of C.acuminate are alkaloids,ellagic acid,and flavonoids.The crude extract of C.acuminate shows anti-tumor,immunosuppression and anti-virus activities.

Abstract:Two new sesquiterpene pyridine alkaloids rugosusines A and B (1 and 2), and thirty-one known compounds were isolated from the stems of Celastrus rugosus. The structures of new compounds were elucidated by detailed spectroscopic analysis, including HR-ESI–MS and 2D NMR spectroscopic data. All the compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time. The cytotoxicities of these compounds were tested against SKOV3 and MGC-803 cell lines by CCK-8 method.

Abstract:Curcumae Rhizoma, a traditional Chinese medicine with a wide range of pharmacological activities, is obtained from the dried rhizomes of Curcuma phaeocaulis VaL., Curcuma kwangsiensis S. G. Lee et C. F. Liang, and Curcuma wenyujin Y. H. Chen et C. Ling. Sesquiterpenoids and curcuminoids are found to be the main constituents of Curcumae Rhizoma. Sesquiterpenoids are composed of three isoprene units and are susceptible to complex transformations, such as cyclization, rearrangement, and oxidation. They are the most structurally diverse class of plant-based natural products with a wide range of biological activities and are widely found in nature. In recent years, scholars have conducted abundant studies on the structures and pharmacological properties of components of Curcumae Rhizoma. This article elucidates the chemical structures, medicinal properties, and biological properties of the sesquiterpenoids (a total of 274 compounds) isolated from Curcumae Rhizoma. We summarized extraction and isolation methods for sesquiterpenoids, established a chemical component library of sesquiterpenoids in Curcumae Rhizoma, and analyzed structural variances among sesquiterpenoids sourced from Curcumae Rhizoma of diverse botanical origins. Furthermore, our investigation reveals a diverse array of sesquiterpenoid types, encompassing guaiane-type, germacrane-type, eudesmane-type, elemane-type, cadinane-type, carane-type, bisabolane-type, humulane-type, and other types, emphasizing the relationship between structural diversity and activity. We hope to provide a valuable reference for further research and exploitation and pave the way for the development of new drugs derived from medicinal plants.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the chemical constituents of the seeds of Cuscuta chinensis.METHOD:The separation was carried out by polyamide and silica gel chromatography, and the compounds were identified by means of physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods.RESULTS:Eight compounds were isolated from the plant and identified as quercetin 3-O-beta-D-galactoside-7-O-beta-D-glucoside (I), quercetin 3-O-beta-D-apiofuranosyl-(1-->2)-beta-D-galactoside (II), hyperoside (III), isorhamnetin (IV), kaempferol (V), quercetin (VI), d-sesamin (VII) and 9(R)-hydroxy-d-sesamin (VIII).CONCLUSION:Compounds IV and VII were isolated from Cuscuta for the first time, and I, II and VIII were characteristic constituents for this vegetable drug.

Abstract:From the seeds of the Celastrus angulatus plant, three new sesquiterpenoids (1 approximately 3) were isolated. Their structures were established, on the basis of UV, IR, mass and 2D NMR spectrometry, as 1beta-acetoxy-8alpha-benzoyloxy-9alpha, 13, -di(beta-nicotinoyloxy)-beta-dihydroagarofuran (1), 1beta, 2beta-dihydroxy-6alpha-acetoxy-8beta, 9beta-dibenzoyloxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran (2) and 1beta, 2beta, 8beta, 9beta-tetrabenzoyloxy-6alpha-acetoxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran (3).

Abstract:Objective To study the chemical constituents from Elsholtzia rugulosa.Methods The compounds were isolated by column chromatography on silica gel,Sephadex LH-20,and MCI-gel CHP-20P.The structures were identified by means of NMR and MS analyses.Results Twelve compounds were isolated and their structures were identified as 4′,5-dihydroxy-7-methoxyflavone(Ⅰ),5-hydroxy-4′,6,7-trimethoxyflavone(Ⅱ),5,6-dihydroxy-3′,4′,7,8-tetramethoxyflavone(Ⅲ),apigenin(Ⅳ),kaempferol(Ⅴ),quercetin(Ⅵ),1H-indole-3-carboxylic acid(Ⅶ),ursolic acid(Ⅷ),oleanolic acid(Ⅸ),ergosta-7-en-3β-ol(Ⅹ),β-sitosterol(Ⅺ),and β-daucosterol(ⅩⅡ).Conclusion Compounds Ⅰ-Ⅹ are obtained from the Plants of Elsholtzia Willd.for the first time.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To study the constituents in the whole plants of Clematis terniflora DC.METHODS Column chromatographic methods (including silica gel and Sephadex LH-20) were used to separate constituents whose structures were elucidated by ESI-MS,NMR spectral data and hydrolysis methods.RESULTS Seven compounds were isolated and elucidated as tricosanol (Ⅰ),heptacosanoic acid (Ⅱ),3,5,7,3′-tetrahydroxyflavone (Ⅲ),5,7,3′,5′-tetrahydroxy-dihydroflavone (Ⅳ),apigenin (Ⅴ),luteolin (Ⅵ) and stigmasterol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (Ⅶ). CONCLUSION Compound Ⅰ～Ⅳ are isolated from Clematis genus for the first time.

Abstract:Sarcandra glabra (Thunb.) Nakai is a perennial evergreen herb categorised within the Sarcandra Gardner genus under the Chloranthaceae family. Indigenous to tropical and subtropical regions of East Asia and India, this species is extensively distributed across China, particularly in the southern regions (Sichuan, Yunnan, and Jiangxi). In addition to its high ornamental value, S. glabra has a rich history of use in traditional Chinese medicine, evident through its empirical prescriptions for various ailments like pneumonia, dysentery, fractures, bruises, numbness, amenorrhea, rheumatism, and other diseases. Besides, modern pharmacological studies have revealed various biological activities, such as antitumour, anti-bacterial, anti-viral anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. The diverse chemical constituents of S. glabra have fascinated natural product researchers since the 1900s. To date, over 400 compounds including terpenoids, coumarins, lignans, flavonoids, sterols, anthraquinones, organic acids, and organic esters have been isolated and characterised, some featuring unprecedented structures. This review comprehensively examines the current understanding of S. glabra's phytochemistry and pharmacology, with emphasis on the chemistry and biosynthesis of its unique chemotaxonomic marker, the lindenane-type sesquiterpenoids.

Abstract:The Celastraceae family comprises about 96 genera and more than 1.350 species, occurring mainly in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. The species of this family stand out as important plant sources of triterpenes, both in terms of abundance and structural diversity. Triterpenoids found in Celastraceae species display mainly lupane, ursane, oleanane, and friedelane skeletons, exhibiting a wide range of biological activities such as antiviral, antimicrobial, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and cytotoxic against various tumor cell lines. This review aimed to document all triterpenes isolated from different botanical parts of species of the Celastraceae family covering 2001 to 2021. Furthermore, a compilation of their 13C-NMR data was carried out to help characterize compounds in future investigations. A total of 504 pentacyclic triterpenes were compiled and distinguished as 29 aromatic, 50 dimers, 103 friedelanes, 89 lupanes, 102 oleananes, 22 quinonemethides, 88 ursanes and 21 classified as others.

Abstract:Objective To study the chemical constituents in roots of cucumber.Methods The chemical constituents were isolated and purified by silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography,their structures were elucidated by the analysis of spectral data and chemical properties.Results Eleven compounds were isolated from EtOAc extract and their structures were identified as stigmasta-4,6,8(14),22-tetraen-3-one(Ⅰ),dehydroeburicoic acid(Ⅱ),α-spinasterol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(Ⅲ),ursolic acid(Ⅳ),3β-Hydroxymultiflora-8-en-17-oic acid(Ⅴ),Indolyl-3-acetic acid methyl ester(Ⅵ),methyl 1H-indole-3-carboxylate(Ⅶ),1H-Indole-3-aldehyde(Ⅷ),2-hydroxybenzyl alcohol(Ⅸ),isovanillin(Ⅹ) and p-hydroxybenzaldehyde(Ⅺ).Conclusion These compounds were isolated from roots of Cucumis sativus L.for the first time except for α-spinasterol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside.

Abstract:Objective To study the chemical constituents from the barks of Cinnamomum cassia.Methods Silica gel,ODS,Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography,and semi-preparative HPLC were used to isolate the compounds.The structures of the compounds were identified on the basis of their physicochemical properties,spectroscopic data,and with the literature.Results Fifteen compounds were isolated from the barks of C.cassia growing in China,including cinnzeylanine(1),anhydrocinnzeylanine(2),anhydrocinnzeylanol(3),cinnzeylanol(4),()-lariciresinol(5),evofolin B(6),5′-medioresinol(7),(+)-syringaresinol(8),2-hydroxyl cinnamie acid(9),1,10-seco-4ζ-hydroxy-muurol-ene-1,10-diketone(10),()-epicatechin(11),kaempferol(12),proanthocyanidin A2(13),stigmasterol(14),and stearic acid(15).Conclusion Compounds 5—7 and 10 are lignans isolated from the plant for the first time,and compounds 1—4 are ryanodanediterpenes isolated from the barks of C.cassia growing in China for the first time.

Abstract:Halogenated sesquiterpenes are important derivatives of sesquiterpenes, referring to chemical components of sesquiterpenes that contain halogens such as chlorine, bromine, and iodine. Halogenated sesquiterpenes have attracted attention from researchers in China and abroad because of their diverse structures, unique halogen elements, and extensive pharmacological activities. Studies have shown that halogenated sesquiterpenes exhibit significant antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, insecticidal, hypoglycemic, and enzyme inhibitory activities. In order to better explore the potential pharmaceutical value of halogenated sesquiterpenes, this paper reviewed the structural characteristics and pharmacological activities of halogenated sesquiterpenes in the past two decades, aiming to provide references for further research and development of this class of compounds.

Their structures were characterized as (7R,8S)-dehydroconiferyl alcohol-8,5'-dehydroconiferyl aldehyde-9-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside(I),(7S,8R)-dihydro-dehydrodiconiferyl alcohol-9-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside(II), Isokaempferide-7-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside(III), Quercetin-3-O-beta-D-gluco-pyranoside (IV), Pectolinarin (V), Rutin(VI), Sucrose(VII), beta-sitosterol(VIII).CONCLUSION:Among these compounds, compounds I-IV are isolated from Herba Cirsii for the first time, Compounds first time. I and II as lignan compounds from this genus, are reported for the first time.

Abstract:Objective Tamarix ramosissima is the host plant of Cistanche tubulosa. The chemical cons-tituents of T. ramosissima were studied in order to improve the development of culture base of C. tubulosa and look for the base for exploitation of T. ramossisma. Methods Various chromatographic techniques were employed for the isolation and purification of the constituents including silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, and preparative HPLC. The structures of compounds were elucidated by chemical and spectral analyses (IR, UV, NMR, and MS). Results Twelve compounds have been isolated from the tender wattle of T. ramosissima, their structures were elucidated as aleuritolic acid (D-friedoolean-14-en-3-ol-28-oic acid, Ⅰ), aleuritolonic acid (D-friedoolean-14-en-3-one-28-oic acid, Ⅱ), rhamnocitrin (Ⅲ), ellagic acid-3, 3′-dimethyl ether (Ⅳ), rhamnetin (Ⅴ), kaemferol (Ⅵ), isoferulic acid (Ⅶ), aromadendrin (Ⅷ), (2α,3β)-dihydrorhamnetin (Ⅸ), quercetin (Ⅹ), 7, 4′-dimethoxykaemferol (Ⅺ), 3-methoxykaemferol (ⅩⅡ). Conclusion Among these compounds, Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅳ, Ⅴ, Ⅷ, Ⅸ, and ⅩⅡ are isolated from the plants of Tamarix L. for the first time.

Abstract:ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. has been included in "The Plant List" (http://www. theplantlist.org) and is the most widely researched species in its genus. It is called Nanshe Teng in China. Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. is a plant of Euonymus and it's medicinal part is the vine and stem. It is also called Alias Dragon grass, Yellow Yine, etc. It has good anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory and other effects. More and more studies have shown that Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. has a significant therapeutic effect on a variety of malignant tumors. The research on Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. has a good application prospect for the development of anti-tumor drugs. However, no systematic reports on Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. have been published before.AIM OF THE REVIEW: This paper summarizes the metabolic products for anti-tumor and the mechanism for anti-tumor of Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. to provide reference for further development and research.MATERIALS AND METHODS: The relevant information on Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. was collected from the scientific databases including PubMed, CNKI, ScienceDirect, Wiley, Springer, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Baidu Scholar, Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China and Flora Republicae Popularis Sinicae, etc. RESULTS: At present, more than 200 compounds have been identified from Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb., including terpenoids, flavonoids, phenylpropanoids, polyketides and benzene derivatives, etc. Pharmacological studies have shown that Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. has a variety effects of inhibiting tumor cell proliferation, inducing tumor cell apoptosis, inhibiting tumor cells invasion, metastasis and angiogenesis, reversing multi-drug resistance, and also collaborativing Micro RNA to inhibit tumor growth, etc. It has a significant effect on gastric cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, etc. The extracts of Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. have been widely used in experiments, and the toxic and side effects are small.CONCLUSIONS: Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. is rich in chemical constituents, diverse in pharmacological activities and abundant in resources, which is widely used in clinics from traditional to modern. However, there is no systematic report on the chemical compounds and anti-tumor effects of Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. We organize and summarize it to provide reference for further development and research.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: To study components of aerial part of Siegesbeckia glabrescens. METHODS: Various colum chromatography with silic gel was employed for the isolation and purification ingredients. Their structures were elucidated by IR, MS, 1HNMR and 13CNMR analysis. RESTS: Six constituents were obtained, their structures were elucidated as grandifloric acid (I), 16β, 17-dihydroxy-kaurane (II), ferulic acid (II), heptacosanol (IV), β-sitosterol (V) and succinic acid (VI). CONCLUSION: Compounds (III), (IV) and (VI) were separated from S. glabrescens for first time.
