Rationale of the Preventive Therapy Against SARS

Abstract:Severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS)is a recently recognized febrile severe lower respiratory illness that is caused by infection with a novel coronavirus,SARS-associated coronavirus(SARS-CoV).To date,however,no specific medications or preventive tools exist to distinguish with certainty SARS-CoV disease from other respiratory illnesses rapidly enough to inform management decisions after the patient presents to the healthcare system.We investigated a large amount of drugs used in the SARS prevention during the SARS outbreak to evaluate their effectiveness,safety and economy.This means that we can be empowered to initiate effective measures and have a ready access to the medications and knowledge to protect people from potentially contagious diseases,in a "safety first" approach,and be allowed to initiate the most appropriate infection-control measures immediately-with validation and approval from senior members of staff later.
