Abstract:With the development of the Internet, security becomes more and more important. SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), developed by Netscape, sets up a secure channel over the Internet, and is widely used in e-commerce. However, it is not perfect. In this paper, we analyze the principle and deficiencies of SSL protocol, present two ways for optimization, and use them in SSL protocol with a help of the RBF algorithm aiming to reduce the time delay at the client end and workload of the server. The experiments presented show the optimized SSL protocol has a better performance than the original one.

Abstract:Distributed defense of DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack has been extensively researched in recent years and control-based defense is a hopeful way. However, existed methods only deal with bandwidth protection. The paper takes defense of DDoS flood as a kind of Processing and Bandwidth Resources allocation and solves it using control theory. Our defense mechanism FFDRF (Feedback Filtering with Dual-Resource Fairness) sets up filters in edge routers of AS and adjusts the filtering thresholds through feedback between these routers and the victim. The simulation results show that FFDRF can make the legitimate traffic keep high survival rate while is stable and converges quickly even in case of heterogeneous flow sources and link conditions. Compared with level-k max-min fairness defense, FFDRF is more effective against CPU-consuming flood. And an implementation of FFDRF in a linux router indicates that FFDRF is feasible in real-life routers. © 2008 IEEE.

Abstract:Security issues in networked control systems (NCSs) have received increasing attention in recent years. However, security protection often requires extra energy consumption, computational overhead, and time delays, which could adversely affect the real-time and energy-limited system. In this paper, random cryptographic protection is implemented. It is less expensive with respect to computational overhead, time, and energy consumption, compared with persistent cryptographic protection. Under the consideration of weak attackers who have little system knowledge, ungenerous attacking capability and the desire for stealthiness and random zero-measurement attacks are introduced as the malicious modification of measurements into zero signals. NCS is modeled as a stochastic system with two correlated Bernoulli distributed stochastic variables for implementation of random cryptographic protection and occurrence of random zero-measurement attacks; the stochastic stability can be analyzed using a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. The proposed stochastic stability analysis can help determine the proper probability of running random cryptographic protection against random zero-measurement attacks with a certain probability. Finally, a simulation example is presented based on a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) system. The results show the effectiveness, robustness, and application of the proposed method, and are helpful in choosing the proper protection mechanism taking into account the time delay and in determining the system sampling period to increase the resistance against such attacks.

Abstract:This article studies the optimized fuzzy prescribed performance control problem for nonlinear nonstrict-feedback systems under denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. A fuzzy estimator is delicately designed to model the immeasurable system states in the presence of DoS attacks. To achieve the preset tracking performance, a simper prescribed performance error transformation is constructed considering the characteristics of DoS attacks, which helps obtain a novel Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation to derive the optimized prescribed performance controller. Furthermore, the fuzzy-logic system, combined with the reinforcement learning (RL) technique, is employed to approximate the unknown nonlinearity existing in the prescribed performance controller design process. An optimized adaptive fuzzy security control law is then proposed for the considered nonlinear nonstrict-feedback systems subject to DoS attacks. Through the Lyapunov stability analysis, the tracking error is proved to approach the predefined region by the preset finite time, even in the presence of DoS attacks. Meanwhile, the consumed control resources are minimized due to the RL-based optimized algorithm. Finally, an actual example with comparisons verifies the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the overview of the recent progress in fuzzy-logic-based filtering, control, and fault detection problems. First, the network technologies are introduced, the networked control systems are categorized from the aspects of fieldbuses and industrial Ethernets, the necessity of utilizing the fuzzy logic is justified, and the network-induced phenomena are discussed. Then, the fuzzy logic control strategies are reviewed in great detail. Special attention is given to the thorough examination on the latest results for fuzzy PID control, fuzzy adaptive control, and fuzzy tracking control problems. Furthermore, recent advances on the fuzzy-logic-based filtering and fault detection problems are reviewed. Finally, conclusions are given and some possible future research directions are pointed out, for example, topics on two-dimensional networked systems, wireless networked control systems, Quality-of-Service (QoS) of networked systems, and fuzzy access control in open networked systems.

Abstract:This paper investigates the problem of robust passive control for networked fuzzy systems, where randomly occurring uncertainties, variable sampling intervals, and constant network-induced delay are taken into account. A discontinuous Lyapunov functional is introduced for the closed-loop systems, which takes full advantage of the sawtooth structure of the time-varying interval delay induced by sample-and-hold and signal transmission. A sufficient condition is proposed to ensure the closed-loop system to be robustly stochastically passive. Then, the problem of robust passive control is solved. Two examples are utilized to illustrate the advantages and effectiveness of the results that are proposed in this paper.

Abstract:The problem of chaos control in freeway system was studied by using the synthetic method with delayed feedback control and fuzzy control. Based on the uncertainty characteristic of vehicle volume in freeway system, the synthetic method was proposed to control the chaos system of freeway by using the theory of delay feedback control and the fuzzy control method. The principle was briefly introduced about the switched system of on-ramp chaos control in freeway. The feedback ramp controller was designed. The goal of chaos control is to realize periodic orbits from unstable periodic movement and the ramp metering rate is the control variable. The parameters of the fuzzy controller were optimized by using genetic algorithm. The effects were discussed in the simulation experiment. The result shows that the principle and the method are correct and feasible.

Abstract:According to the actual situation of the intersection of TiYuChang Road with WuLin Road in the city of HangZhou, The model of this single traffic intersection is described. A fuzzy control approach for this intersection is presented by means of the vehicle flow information in four directions and the model described above. With the performance criterion being the average delay of vehicle, the timing plan is determined. Simulations show that the fuzzy control can perform the multiphase signal traffic control of a single intersection more effectively and the results are satisfactory.

Abstract:This paper uses the fuzzy neural networks (FNN) theory to solve the real time region traffic distributed control problem. The region traffic is regarded as a large scale system and the subsystems are the intersections in the region. Each intersection has its own traffic controller which manages the green phase and the phase length dynamically according to its own and its neighbor's traffic situations. The object of the controller is to make the lane unblocked and the average vehicle delay time shortest in the front of each intersection. The proposed method is compared with the vehicle actuated method which is one of the type conventional methods. The simulation show good performances in the cases of time-varying traffic patterns and heavy traffic situations.
Chaos Control Simulation of Freeway by Using T-S Fuzzy-neural Networks Based on Rough Sets

Abstract:The on-ramp chaos control problem of freeway was studied by using fuzzy-neural networks based on rough set theory. Based on the uncertainty characteristic of vehicle volume in freeway system, the thought was proposed to establish the knowledge base of the on-ramp intelligent chaos controller of freeway by using data mining technology. The T-S fuzzy- neural networks ramp controller was designed. The traffic density, upstream traffic volume and maximal Lyapunov exponents are the input variables and the red timing is the output variable of the controller The knowledge base of the chaos controller was established by using rough sets theory. The controller structure including the extracting of fuzzy rules was determined. The parameters of the fuzzy controller were optimized by using fuzzy-neural networks. The feasibility and validity of the method was demonstrated via the simulation experiment, which shows that the order motion can be realized, the traffic jam phenomena can be suppressed, and the freeway capacity can be enhaned by using the intelligent chaos controller.

Abstract:This article addresses the security control problem of a class of interval type-2 fuzzy systems via the sliding mode control strategy. A stochastic communication scheduling protocol is utilized to govern the transmission from the sensors to the controller, by which only one sensor node has the chance to transmit its value at every instant. Meanwhile, cyber attacks from malicious adversaries might be launched in vulnerable communication channels. To quantitatively analyze the effect of the stochastic communication protocol and cyber attacks, their mathematical model is first constructed based on a compensation scheme. Since the scheduling signal may be unavailable once cyber attacks are activated, a desirable sliding mode control law is synthesized with token-independent control gains, whose membership functions are mismatched with those of the fuzzy system. To deal with these mismatched membership functions, the relations between the membership functions of the system and the control law are reconstructed. Consequently, the favorable property of perfectly matched memberships could be employed. Sufficient conditions are derived so that the resultant closed-loop interval type-2 fuzzy system is stochastically stable and, at the same time, the state trajectories can be forced into a small domain around the prescribed sliding surface. The proposed control design approach is verified by two examples.

Abstract:The security control issue of nonlinear networked systems is considered in this article on the basis of interval type-2 fuzzy modeling strategy. For avoiding communication congestion, a stochastic scheduling strategy called Markovian communication protocol is introduced to coordinate the sensor transmission order. An asynchronous observer is designed for estimating the unmeasured states via the hidden Markov model. In addition, a more comprehensive scenario on deception attack is considered, in which attacks occur both in the sensor–observer and controller–actuator communication channels with different types of deception signals. In view of slack matrix approach and stochastic analysis technique, some sufficient conditions for ensuring the ultimately boundedness of the resulting closed-loop system are obtained. In the end, simulations show the validity of the proposed protocol-based fuzzy control method.

Abstract:This work studies the performance of T-S fuzzy networked control systems under denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. First, the weight coefficient is introduced to measure the damage to the control signal caused by DoS attacks. Then, novel looped Lyapunov-Krasovskii functions are constructed based on the fuzzy membership function, and the nonlinear problem of the system is considered under the premise of reducing the initial condition constraints. Next, the issue of finding the suitable sampling period is transformed into an optimization problem of finding the optimal sampling period to reduce sampling times. An intelligent sampling controller is designed to ensure the asymptotic stability of the system. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified with a truck trailer model.

Abstract:This article investigates the prescribed performance security control problem for nonlinear systems subject to denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. An attack compensator is adopted to model the unavailable output signal when the attack is active. Based on the designed attack compensator, a fuzzy estimator is developed to approximate the unmeasurable state variables. Further, a security tracking control method is proposed by combining the fuzzy estimator and the novel attack-dependent barrier Lyapunov function. It can steer the tracking errors to the predetermined neighborhood around the origin in the predefined settling time. Meanwhile, all the closed-loop signals are bounded under DoS attacks. Compared with the existing conclusions with DoS attacks, the tracking accuracy and the time of achieving the tracking can be given in advance. Finally, two comparison simulations verify the validity of the designed security controller.

Abstract:In this work, the security sliding mode control issue is studied for interval type-2 (IT2) fuzzy systems under the unreliable network. The deception attacks and the denial-of-service (DoS) attacks may occur in the sensor-controller channels to affect the transmission of the system state, and these attacks are described via two independent Bernoulli stochastic variables. By adopting the compensation strategy and utilizing the available state, the new membership functions are constructed to design the fuzzy controller with the different fuzzy rules from the fuzzy model. Then, under the mismatched membership function, the designed security controller can render the closed-loop IT2 fuzzy system to be stochastically stable and the sliding surface to be reachable. Finally, the simulation results verify the security control scheme.

Abstract:This article studies the issue of resilient event-triggered (RET)-based security controller design for nonlinear networked control systems (NCSs) described by interval type-2 (IT2) fuzzy models subject to nonperiodic denial of service (DoS) attacks. Under the nonperiodic DoS attacks, the state error caused by the packets loss phenomenon is transformed into an uncertain variable in the designed event-triggered condition. Then, an RET strategy based on the uncertain event-triggered variable is firstly proposed for the nonlinear NCSs. The existing results that utilized the hybrid triggered scheme have the defect of complex control structure, and most of the security compensation methods for handling the impacts caused by DoS attacks need to transmit some compensation data when the DoS attacks disappear, which may lead to large performance loss of the systems. Different from these existing results, the proposed RET strategy can transmit the necessary packets to the controller under nonperiodic DoS attacks to reduce the performance loss of the systems and a new security controller subject to the RET scheme and mismatched membership functions is designed to simplify the network control structure under DoS attacks. Finally, some simulation results are utilized to testify the advantages of the presented approach.

Abstract:In network control systems (NCSs), one obvious advantage of using homomorphic encryption is to protect data privacy while remotely computing the control function without decryption. Homomorphism analysis shows that it is more secure to protect the control system with fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) than with partially homomorphic encryption (PHE). However, the high computational complexity of FHE hinders its acceptance in NCSs. In this paper, FHE is utilized to highly enhance the security of NCSs against potential eavesdropping attacks. To guarantee control efficiency, an optimization scheme of the encrypted control algorithm is designed to make FHE practically applicable for real-time control. Besides, the secure controller achieves the expected control performance and inherits asymptotic stability. The experimental results can demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed encrypted control system in terms of efficiency, security, and stability.
