Yield and Efficiency in Hybrid Seed Production in Cotton Effected by Ecological Conditions

Abstract:With field experiment and large-scale practice on hybrid production in cotton SCRC15 by hand crossing, seed yield formation and production efficiency were comparatively studied in various Shandong cotton growing area. Results show that the peak period of boll formation per plant per day occurred at 16-25 d after the initial date of hand crossing. In the same ecological area, lint percentage and percentage of immature seed in the bolls set at the middle and prophase were lower than those set at anaphase. Remarkable advantages in yield, efficiency and seed maturity in hybrid production in south west Shandong over those in north Shandong were discovered. It was suggested that the scale in hybrid production in south west Shandong should be stabilized, while the scale in northwest Shandong and in north Shandong should be properly developed and expanded apace, respectively.
