Abstract:This paper is devoted to the study of asymptotic behavior of the basic reproduction ratio for periodic reaction-diffusion systems in the case of small and large diffusion coefficients. We first establish the continuity of the basic reproduction ratio with respect to parameters by developing the theory of resolvent positive operators. Then we investigate the limiting profile of the principal eigenvalue of an associated periodic eigenvalue problem for large diffusion coefficients. We then obtain the asymptotic behavior of the basic reproduction ratio as the diffusion coefficients go to zero and infinity, respectively. We also investigate the limiting behavior of positive periodic solution for periodic and cooperative reaction-diffusion systems with the Neumann boundary condition when the diffusion coefficients are large enough. Finally, we apply these results to a reaction-diffusion model of Zika virus transmission.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to study the asymptotic behavior of the time-dependent solutions to a coupled system of reaction-diffusion equations with periodic coefficients in unbounded domains, including the whole space R-n, the exterior Omega(e) of a bounded domain and the half-space R-+(n) = {x = (x(1), . . . , x(n)) is an element of R-n; x(n) > 0}, under Dirichlet boundary conditions. It is shown that if the reaction function in the system possesses a mixed quasi monotone property and the corresponding periodic system has a pair of coupled upper and lower solutions then the periodic system has a pair of quasi-solutions and the sector between the quasi-solutions is an attractor of the system of periodic reaction-diffusion equations. Under some additional conditions this attractor leads to the asymptotic stability of a periodic solution for the periodic system. The approach to the problem is based on the method of upper and lower solutions, a ladder argument and a bootstrap technique. Finally, a competitor-competitor-mutualist model is given to illustrate the obtained results.

Abstract:In this paper, we concentrate on the propagation dynamics of stochastic reaction–diffusion equations, including the existence of travelling wave solution and asymptotic wave speed. Based on the stochastic Feynman–Kac formula and comparison principle, the boundedness of the solution of stochastic reaction–diffusion equations can be obtained so that we can construct a sup-solution and a sub-solution to estimate the upper bound and the lower bound of wave speed.

Abstract:The mathematical model of two competing species dynamical system in a periodically changing environment with diffusion and instantaneous changes in the population densities is investigated. The model is described by a coupled system of reaction-diffusion equations together with some initial boundary value and impulses conditions. The upper-lower Solution method is established and some comparison principles are obtained. The asymptotic prope. rties of the system are researched by using the comparison theorem of impulsive ordinary differential equations and using the solutions of dominating inpulsive ordinary differential equation to control and estimate the solutions of the system.

Abstract:The nonlinear singular perturbation interior layer and initial layer to the initial boundary value problem for the reaction diffusion equation is considered.Under suitable conditions,the generalized outer solution is discussed.By introducing a stretched variable,the formal asymptotic expansion for the generalized solution with interior layer and initial layer corrective terms is constructed.Finally,using the fixed point theory of functional analysis,the existence and uniformly valid interior shock asymptotic solution for the original initial boundary value problems are proved.

Abstract:The Lengyel–Epstein reaction–diffusion system of the CIMA reaction is revisited. We construct a Lyapunov function to show that the constant equilibrium solution is globally asymptotically stable when the feeding rate of iodide is small. We also show that for small spatial domains, all solutions eventually converge to a spatially homogeneous and time-periodic solution.

Abstract:In this work, a nonstandard finite difference (NSFD) method is proposed to approximate the solutions of a nonlinear reaction-diffusion equation which appears in population dynamics. It is well known that the model under study has some travelling-wave solutions, which are positive, bounded and monotone in both space and time. First, a robust NSFD method is presented for the diffusion-free case of original equation. Then, combined with the NSFD method for the diffusion-free equation, an NSFD method is constructed for the full reaction-diffusion equation. It is shown that, under certain conditions on the denominator function of the time-step size, the proposed method is capable of preserving the positivity, boundedness and the spatial and temporal monotonicity of these travelling-wave solutions. Moreover, the nonlinear stability and convergence of this method are also analysed. Finally, some numerical simulations are provided to verify the validity of our analytical results.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct a partially degenerate reaction-diffusion equation subject to the Neumann boundary condition and show that the zero solution is asymptotically stable but not exponentially asymptotically stable. In this way, we solve an open problem proposed by Casten and Holland (1977) [4] Moreover, we give the exponential asymptotic stability of the zero solution to a totally degenerate system with cross-diffusion effects, which cannot be determined by a simple spectral analysis based on the well developed semigroup theory. Abstract:In this paper, global-in-time existence and blow up results are shown for a reaction-diffusion equation appearing in the theory of aggregation phenomena (including chemotaxis). Properties of the corresponding steady-state problem are also presented. Abstract:This paper develops an analytical approach to compute the explicit asymptotic formulas for the probability that a time-inhomogeneous diffusion process does not cross a non-flat, lower/upper boundary. We derive the explicit formulas for the first four terms and provide the error bound. The accuracy of the approximation is demonstrated by numerical experiments.

Abstract:Reaction-diffusion equations are widely used as the governing evolution equations for modeling many physical, chemical, and biological processes. Here we derive reaction-diffusion equations to model transport with reactions on a one-dimensional domain that is evolving. The model equations, which have been derived from generalized continuous time random walks, can incorporate complexities such as subdiffusive transport and inhomogeneous domain stretching and shrinking. A method for constructing analytic expressions for short time moments of the position of the particles is developed and moments calculated from this approach are shown to compare favourably with results from random walk simulations and numerical integration of the reaction transport equation. The results show the important role played by the initial condition. In particular, it strongly affects the time dependence of the moments in the short time regime by introducing additional drift and diffusion terms. We also discuss how our reaction transport equation could be applied to study the spreading of a population on an evolving interface.

Abstract:The diffusion of cells in a viscous incompressible fluid (e.g. water) may be viewed like movement in a porous medium and there is a bidirectorial oxygen exchange between water and their surrounding air in thin fluid layers near the air–water contact surface. This leads to the following chemotaxis-Navier–Stokes system with nonlinear diffusion: [Formula: see text] endowed with the inhomogeneous boundary conditions [Formula: see text] and the initial data [Formula: see text] in [Formula: see text], where the incoming oxygen [Formula: see text] is non-negative, and the outgoing oxygen molecule is modeled by [Formula: see text] with positive coefficient [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we investigate the asymptotic dynamics of the above system in a bounded domain [Formula: see text] with the smooth boundary [Formula: see text]. We will show that arbitrary porous medium diffusion mechanism [Formula: see text] can inhibit the singularity formation. In the incoming oxygen-free case, we further prove that the solution will stabilize to the unique mass-preserving spatial equilibrium [Formula: see text] in the sense that as [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] hold uniformly with respect to [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text].

Abstract:We analyze the long time behavior of initial value problems that model a process where particles of type A and B diffuse in some substratum and react according to $nA+nB\to C$. The case n=1 has been studied before; it presents nontrivial behavior on the reactive scale only. In this paper we discuss in detail the cases $n>3$, and prove that they show nontrivial behavior on the reactive and the diffusive length scale.
